History

Established in 2014.

DNA was started by David de la Pena, who formerly managed another popular fitness facility in Tucson and is the only CrossFit Certified Level 4 Coach in Southern Arizona and Anne Johnson, PhD, a Russian Kettlebell Challenge Level II (RKC II) and Instructor of CrossFit and CrossFit running. The team aimed to create an upscale urban training facility for transforming bodies and changing lives, where clients benefit from the best elements of functional training and recovery, without relentless «beat-​downs» and with high emphasis on good technique and safety. DNA opened its doors at Camp Lowell in May 2012, and many clients have experienced positive life changes — fat lost, strength gained, and one client even regained her sense of smell after decades without it. The Downtown location opened in January 2014. Team DNA is excited to join the Downtown Tucson business community!

Meet the Business Owner

David P.

Business Owner

David is President of DNA Personal Training, a Certified Personal Trainer, Nutritionist, CrossFit Level 4 Coach and IKFF (Kettlebell) trainer, and a true student of the science of strength, fitness, and nutrition. He is DNA’s Director of Operations and Training, and is the mastermind behind the unique and powerful training available only at DNA. A voracious reader, David translates the latest advances in training and nutrition to programming and nutrition coaching for clients, and has developed successful training and diet protocols that have helped hundreds of clients reach and exceed their goals. David has an uncanny ability to provide first-​class attention to all clients in a group class, while also fine-​tuning training for individual clients.
