This place is quirky to say the least. Don’t expect the cookie-cutter experience of David’s Bridal, or the uppity boutique feel of Kleinfeld. Look for the large gravel lot to turn into from the road. The store is inside a house-type building, located deep from the road, in the gravel lot. This place has 2 big rooms for wedding dresses. 1 room has Pronovias(and other expensive brand) gowns. When I went, those were priced at $ 1000, and included all the alterations. In looking at some of Joyce’s(the owner/seamstress) work there, I could tell that this lady was a seasoned seamstress, which makes this an awesome deal if you’re looking to buy a brand-name gown. The other section had regular brands, some I’ve never heard of, some I have, like Demetrios. The dresses in this section were priced at $ 500 or $ 600(I can’t remember), but were generally not as fancy, and did not include alterations. If you’re lucky enough to find the dress of your dreams in your size in this section, then you’d be getting a great deal as well. I walked in without an appointment. There was only 1 «dressing room»(curtains in the middle of the room with the $ 500-$ 600 dresses), which was already being used by someone else. However, the owner was nice enough to let me use the room with the Pronovias gowns as my personal dressing room, which was awesome — I had a field day in there, trying on whatever I wanted. Remember to bring a friend to help you change — there was no assistant provided like at David’s Bridal. Overall, I had a pleasant experience at this place, although I’m sure the quirky mom-and-pop type store is not for everyone. I ended up buying my dress somewhere else, but I always remembered this place for its selection and brand-name bargains.

I am a fan. A local Tucson, family business, located in an old house. It might be considered kind of quirky, I guess, but I liked it. Easy parking in front and didn’t have to deal with strip mall traffic. I already purchased my dress, so I was going to Hem and Her for alterations only. They did have a decent number of gowns, so they are worth checking out. Joyce was such a pleasure to work with, I felt very comfortable with her. She has been in the business over 20 years and it’s evident. I was appreciative of the fact that the alterations are done on site. This is not the case at all bridal shops. Pricing was on par with what I expected. Everyone I met at Hem and Her was very friendly. I was actually a little intimidated after reading the other reviews mentioning the male owner; however, he was present on at least two occasions I was there and was very friendly. These are just real people, not putting on airs as one might at a super fancy bridal shop. So glad I went, excellent work, awesome people and local business!

I can’t say enough good about Hem & Her! I have been here on four separate occasions, each time I have been dealt with professionally and courteously. Today I needed a logo patch attached and had waited until the last min. They attached the patch while I waited, without a problem. They took the time to allow me to try on the garment and gave me advice on placement. They are cheerful and easy to deal with. I will send everyone possible here:)

I rented here for my sister’s wedding, and the service was very good… Very accommodating, especially since I was in from out of town, and rushed. The owners are friendly and hilarious. Just the kind of small local businesses that I choose to support.

Hem & Her is an odd business located on the east side of Stone between Limberlost and Wetmore. They offer wedding dresses for sale, tuxes for rent and alterations. Blink and you’ll miss the place because it’s pulled back from the street. Look for the oversized orange scissors and drive into the gravel driveway. Walk through the chotkied yard and go inside. If there is a man at the counter, turn around and walk out. See below. First, the good things: Hem & Her has Pronovias wedding gowns, which are beautiful, and they regularly put the samples on sale, which is awesome. They also have a wide variety of bridal gowns and bridal party gowns in a wide array of styles and sizes. The class ranges from great to «I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy’s daughter’s quinceñera!» Also good is that you can try as many dresses on as you want and you don’t need an appointment and you can take as long as you want to find the dress for you. Some stores are sticklers about these things. Hem & Her is not. The also have competent seamstresses for altering your clothes. Here’s the bad, and it starts and ends with the douchebag male owner of the store. I once went there because my dress had a one inch rip in the side seam. He wanted to charge me $ 20, because the fee book said, «Hem: $ 20.» I wasn’t asking for a hem, which requires me to try on the dress, the seamstress to pin the dress and then for her to sew the him. I was asking for a repair that would take 5 minutes at most(including bobbin change). When I pointed this out to the owner, he asked me who I thought I was, and then said that if this were Home Depot, I couldn’t negotiate on prices. I quickly responded that if it was Home Depot, and the price was too high, I would walk out the door and across the street to Lowe’s. He finally relented. But he was a total jerk. On another occasion, I took a friend there to try on wedding dresses. As is common practice, I asked the attendant for a foundation garment(a corset). She said they didn’t have any. The man walked by and asked me what I wanted. I repeated my request. He said that it was ridiculous to ask for such a thing and he’d never in his however many years carried corsets. I said it wasn’t a bizarre question as every other place carried them. He then made some snide remark about me trying to tell him how to run his business. The truth is, I wouldn’t try to help him run his business because he doesn’t deserve it. Bottom line: come here, make sure the horrible boss isn’t there, and make sure you get a quote before you hand your clothes over for alterations.

Hem and Her is truly a diamond in the rough. I bought my wedding dress there and had alterations done. First off, my wedding dress was far more beautiful and far less expensive than many places I tried in town(including Maya Palace, Alfred Angelo, and several other small boutiques). I was trying on dresses almost double in price and no where near as gorgeous. Also, Joyce did my alterations. I was nervous about who to have do it considering all the bead work my dress had, however Joyce did a tremedous job. I had 4 fittings to get it perfect, but it fit like a glove and the cost of the alterations were very inexpensive. Especially considering the work she did. Joyce greets you with a hug and makes you feel extremely important. Also, she gets it done within the time constraints given. I highly recommend this place. It’s definitely different than a regular store front bridal boutique but they have the biggest selection of the most gorgeous dresses for great prices.

Don’t go here unless you like to visit«businesses» that are dilapidated looking in appearance and reek of chemicals in the air. My first impression… the parking lot… Drive into the entry area… you’ll find your car caving into a deep hole in the ground, realizing that you’ve just went over a freaking pothole the size of Grand Canyon. You might dent your tire’s frame as well. Anyway… as you walk up to the building, you’ll find the«front yard» of the building is horrible in appearance. Canopies, tents, benches, yard décor, plants all mussed around, torn, ripped, and deteriorated.(DEFINITELY not a welcoming aspect of a business, especially since it caters to wedding attire primarily) If you love inhaling strong chemicals and inducing yourself a headache, then you’re at the right place :) Just walk in the door and take a deep breath, you’ll get your want, need, or wish fix. To top it all off… I really think this place is ugly, disgusting, and unattractive. The owner is rude and seemingly snotty, because she does not make me want to know more about her. End of story. There are a good number of other bridal and tuxedo shops around town to check out, just don’t go to a place that doesn’t take enough pride in its own business appearance.
