Wow what an amazing place! I don’t often give 5 stars but this place was actually that good!
The room was comfortable, clean and a good size, with a nice bathroom as well. The grounds were lovely.
Their pools were great and their lazy river was wonderful!
Service was probably some of the best I’ve ever experienced.
There were a few small issues (nothing too big) but overall a wonderful, relaxing stay. Can’t wait to go back sometime!
This is definitely one of those awesome Tucson gems.

Wonderful place to stay with the family. The staff is awesome! I cannot thank them enough for such great service. The pool staff is especially kind and generous as they found out we are adopting and they sent cookies and milk to our room. What a wonderful surprise!

This resort can not do enough to make your stay as pleasant as possible. I ordered dinner at Primo. I notified them of my food allergies and the chef made a special meal for me, problem on my part was I forgot to tell them of my allergy to tomato seeds, so even though delicious, I could not eat. I offered to pay for the meal but the staff wasn’t hearing it, they even refused my gratuity — which went to the chef. Then about 2 hours later, the 2 servers appeared at my room with a bucket of beers and a fresh hand made roasted garlic and mozzarella cheese pizza for absolutely free. Unfortunately on my part, I could not eat or drink the beers at that time, so I went downstairs with beers and offered every Moonwalker a brew. Eugene Cernan got a good laugh out of it. The staff here is top shelf and are worth every cent you pay to stay here. I will return with the family in the fall. I will remain a loyal Marriott customer for life. No more Best Westerns for this guy.

Christiane and Paul are awesome! They helped make this a wonderful vacation! We were supposed to only stay 2 nights, but ended up staying 4 because of what a wonderful place this is. We booked adjoining rooms so the kiddos can have their space while we have ours.
The lazy river was really cool. I didn’t really ever see the waterslide up and running, but I never asked either. Even the kids just wanted to relax. The Signature Club restaurant is great! A meal runs between $ 30 – 40, but the food is great and the kids ate for free, so it evened out. Our tabs are normally over $ 100 anyway when eating at a restaurant for 5, so given the quality of food, this was quite the deal, in my opinion. The patio of the restaurant overlooks the pool and you can see city lights in the distance, so it can be romantic as well. Dress is casual (we went after going in the pool and drying off).
We didn’t try the Primo restaurant, as it seemed fancier and the kids don’t eat free there… lol. Our room was on the 2^nd floor. The lobby is on the 3^rd floor. Restaurants are on the 2^nd floor as well. Given the fact that we were in the pool quite a bit, we should have requested a 1^st floor room. Our room was nice (#2217 & #2219), but the bathroom door to room 2217 was essentially off hinge. It took extra muscle to open and close the door. We didn’t complain since it was just the wife and me in the room and we could close our adjoining door to the kids’ room. We’ll let them know once we leave so hopefully it’ll be fixed by the time the next guest arrives.
Our rooms overlooked the lazy river. The pools are right next to each other, so it wasn’t an issue to bounce back and forth. at one point, we had one of the pools to ourselves so the kids ended up playing with water cannons. My point to that is simply that there is PLENTY of room to spread out among the pools.
Anyway, I don’t know what else to say other than you won’t be disappointed! If so, I’m sorry you had a different experience than we did. Being from Mesa, we’ll definitely be returning to this resort again. Nothing but great things!

Great place to stay and relax with the family. The staff was very helpful and responsive. Highly recommend.

Staff goes over and beyond to make sure you are taken care off. A+ for hospitality! We held a convention there and everything went down without a hitch. The rooms are large, clean and have great views. The pools are welcoming, but my only complaint was bar service at the pool is super slow. But I travel a lot to these kinds of hotels for conventions and it always seems to be the case.
The grounds are beautifully maintained; the restaurants offer a wide variety of flavors and room service is fast.

Top notch service and amenities from check-​in to check-​out. A shout out goes to Tyler at the front desk for promptly taking care of a minor issue with our room.

Not impressed at all so far — I have 3 more nights so I will re-​review at the end but so far…
Gave me another persons credit card when I tabbed out. My bad didn’t realize it for an hour. Had to cancel a trip into town to remedy. Spent almost two hours trying to get a glass of wine and appetizer after the credit card fiasco. The server (at Salud) was MIA. I had to constantly flag someone down to retrieve her. The table behind me being more forgiving (or drunk) just kept slogging off to the bar to get drinks however serving yourself is one thing but they tried to light the flame heater themselves — I was done. Long search to find my server… any server… who could let me tab out. Almost thought it’d be quicker to cancel the credit card and order a new one sent by post than wait for the server. Surprising thing… this is a JW Marriott?

I believe this is the best resort in Tucson, a real desert oasis. Very clean, new, lots to do and the staff is friendly and helpful.

JW Marriott Starr Pass will always be special to me;Here’s why: THIS was the venue for my recent wedding! We were treated so well by everyone at this resort from pre wedding planning and after our wedding. When my boyfriend surprised me last summer with a ring, we immediately sprung into action of planning the biggest day of our lives. We were truly on the fence about eloping to Bali, Mexico, Thailand or Paris. There was no limit to our thought process! After meeting here on a complete whim with Kaylin, one of the event coordinators here at the JW Marriott Starr Pass, we decided on a small, private event here. It’s also just about an hour away from our home in Phoenix. Kaylin stayed in touch with me every step of the way along the wedding planning phase, suggesting florists, hair and makeup, (after the girl I had booked with at the resort suddenly quit! and I found myself with NO time to find another). she came to us with menu suggestions for the private room at Signature Grill, met up with us when we checked in a couple of days before the wedding to be sure all was well and even took my chocolate favors and kept them stored until the day of the wedding. LITTLE things become BIG deals when you are having a wedding and trying to make it all perfect for guests that are coming from far away places. Kaylin and the JW Marriott team here surpassed all of our expectations. Chef Chris at Signature Grill did our wedding cake and I can tell you, I was one picky bride with this cake! He made the most beautiful, perfect cake from my pictures that I had saved from Pinterest, (YES! Pinterest!!!), and passed on to Kaylin. Our wedding site was on one of the tee boxes overlooking the beautiful 27 hole golf course with a perfect Arizona desert sunset as the backdrop. Kaylin even helped us decide on the time of day for our wedding based on perfect sunlight for photographs. The day of our wedding, Kaylin had my flowers brought to my suite about an hour prior to my walking down the aisle; she also made sure to come up to the room about half an hour before and meet me and my bridal party to escort us through the resort to the wedding site. THIS was the most nerve-​wracking thing to me, as I was wearing 4 inch Badgley Mishka wedding stilettos and a full wedding gown. The ‘walk’ was going to take me and my wedding party through the lobby, down a flight of marbled stairs!!, and out through one bar area. When I told her how nervous that made me, she made sure to zip me through the resort and into a elevator so that I wouldn’t be gawked at on this already over the top nervous moment of truth! After the ceremony, Kaylin and staff made sure we had a golf cart waiting to whisk us away for photographs on the green while there was perfect sunlight. We also had a reserved spot in the corner by a kiva fireplace on the veranda for the nightly tequila toast that she made sure to secure for our guests. The JW does this nightly tequila toast with the story of Pancho Villa every night with a different tequila for its guests at sunset. Salud, the bar serving the veranda, has an amazing selection of tequilas. This was the perfect way to get our small, intimate reception going and to finally calm some of those pre-​wedding nerves! After a few house made sangrias we moved into Signature Grills private dining room; a beautiful room that overlooks the golf course with a balcony. Our long rectangular table was set up beautifully in all white, just like I had requested. Our ‘love story’ photos played out on the plasma flat screen over the beautiful fire place while the waiters sprung into action with our sit down dinner. Kaylin and her team made sure that every detail down to our chocolate truffle favors from my home in the Bay Area were placed where they should be. After our wedding dinner and the guests started popping the bubbly, our wedding cake was boxed up and all of our wedding items were delivered to our suite while we partied our night away with our guests. Even delivering a special bottle of champagne from the resorts team to our room and decorating our suite with red rose petals! Our guests loved having things to do on the resort prior to the wedding day: a 27 championship golf course; a full service spa; a great gym;a lazy river that is separate of a larger pool area. Starbucks on site is always a good thing! A buffet breakfast that is to die for at Signature Grill, (and I will review that separately); Catalina BBQ and Sports Bar; a great bar and light bites place for patio time with such amazing sunsets at Salud; and hiking! The day after our wedding we rented a pool cabana for the guests that were left and staying a bit longer with us; The pool cabanas come in different sizes and amenities depending on the one you book. I recommend booking these cabanas prior to your arrival at the JW. We had a couple of snafus with our room and reservation but nothing that wasn’t quickly rectified. We were even comp’d another cabana day! Tops in my book!

The staff at this resort are incredible! Everyone is friendly, helpful and wants each guest to have a wonderful experience.
The standard rooms are a nice size and are clean, comfortable and southwestern without being corny. Some have actual balconies you can walk on to, but all have at least Juliet balconies (You can open the door but not walk out). A minor complaint would be that I had a room adjoining another and it was pretty loud. The shower is also a bit tight, and I’m a pretty compact person at 5’2″ with a petite frame.
On the flip side, the details make the resort, from the many kinds of flavored waters to the opportunities to partake in (free) fun activities like sunrise hikes.
Speaking of which, there are many accessible trails and paths right out the front door of the resort. Ask the front desk to recommend a path in line with your fitness and interest level (or rent a mountain bike if that’s more your speed). See what I did there? He he :)
The lazy river and fire pits were a highlight for our group, which spent many days down by the pool floating (sadly, I only joined once and loved it) and many evenings in conversation by the fire.
The spa is not overly glamorous and is a bit on the spendy side, but I enjoyed every minute of my massage. The sitting area and hot tub were nice touches.
Gorgeous property and great service! You’re sure to enjoy your stay and to find something for everyone.

I’ve stayed here multiple times and have always had a pleasant stay. It is my favorite resort in Tucson… I personally prefer staying at the JW vs. going up North where there are more resorts, things to do in the area.
You will need a car when you stay here though because besides the resort, there is nothing to do in the surrounding area.

This is my very favorite hotel in the Marriott chain. We have been coming here since it was built and love the place more each time we visit. The service is above and beyond welcoming. From the valets to check-​in to maid service, the tequila toast, the amazing views from the patio, morning hikes and yoga, and more… This place is truly heaven.

Stayed here for a weekend in September for a conference. The place is beautifully nestled in the desert landscape of Tucson, AZ. The surrounding desert makes for a very peaceful evening and star filled skies in the nights. The service is excellent as well and what you would expect from a JW Marriott.
The parking is a little far from the resort if you decide to self park instead of valet. I did notice 2 Tesla chargers in the valet lot for those fortunate enough to have one. The room we had was a king and was nicely appointed with a great view of the main pool. They also have a slide and lazy river on the other side of the resort for those interested or with kids.
They have a nightly tequila toast that we were unfortunately not able to take advantage of. They also have a spa on site for those who would like some pampering. They do have a golf course for anyone who wants to tee it up. A shuttle is available to take you from the lobby there since it is a short drive away and not close enough to walk. You could get a cheaper rate of golfnow than their onsite rate. It is a challenging desert course so bring extra balls.
I would welcome another visit here next year if they have the conference here again.

This is my 7^th or 8^th visit here, always as part of a large conference. It really is a great top notch getaway in terms of conferance local and set up. The conferance room are spacious, have decent acoustics, and fairly comfortable seating. The usual water, coffee, snacks between meetings are dressed up with real cinnamon, sugar sticks, tea cookies, and exotic fruits.
The rest of the hotel grounds, as stated in the numerous previous reviews, are mostly top notch.

I’ve been here three times in the last ten years. I don’t like crowds or kids so one might legitimately wonder why I come back to a family friendly resort. To begin with, I only visit in the off season. Right now we are in the monsoon cycle in the desert, with sudden cloudbursts every afternoon — meaning everyone has to abandon the pool and run inside. I saw a young couple with kids asking a server if it rains like this often, and he snorted and said, «Every day!» I’m not generally a mean person, but on the inside I laughed at their distress. I get it, they want sun and pool and fun. But I want rain and nature and quiet. This time I win.
And it’s hot. Darn hot. 103 hot. But the mornings are gorgeous, with bunnies and javelinas and lots of birds, quail, roadrunner, cardinal, wren, lots more, all over the place getting their business done before the heat kicks in. I like to bivouac down at one of the pools until about 10am, then I might head into Tucson to experience the awesome art scene, used book stores, the bistro cuisine, the excellent coffee. I don’t mind heat, so I could take a hike or a bike and it would be great. Others are wilting, I am thriving.
This time I stayed three days, arriving late on a Thursday. That’s a resort secret, you know. Arrive Thursday night, and Friday you will be rewarded, as most guests are checking out and the weekend visitors haven’t rolled in yet. One day I enjoyed a massage and spa treatment at the excellent facility located just steps from my room. I had drinks on the patio while watching the full moon rise. I relaxed in a pool chair while some nice young staff brought me food. And on our last night we had a great meal in the Signature Grill, although that was Saturday and there were kids and families. Shudder. I endured it and it was worth it because the food was good.
Staff go out of their way to be helpful and you’ll find they offer all kinds of diversions to keep you at the resort. Sure, things are expensive, especially the food, but that is resort living. If I didn’t want to do that I’d just stay at the Marriott Residence in the city.
I look forward to returning again to Starr Pass. I love the first glimpse I get as I drive up from the city, I love the smell of the desert after a cloudburst, and I love the feeling of total relaxation I get from laying next to the water, listening to the birds, and letting my worldly cares drift away.

Recently stayed here for a nice little birthday celebration for my mother in law. We arrived and were greeted by friendly and accommodating staff.
We started off with drinks down by the pool — prickly pear margarita is where it’s at! Their beers are $ 2 more outside at the bar than they are in the restaurants. We heard they do free shots of tequila at sunset but found out it’s not ACTUALLY done at sunset but at 5:30 at the bar inside below the lobby. We hung out outside, had dinner at primo and then got another round of drinks outside while listing to the live band. The views are amazing and the atmosphere was fantastic except for that slight moment of 15 young children playing with toy kazoos in the lobby, really messing up the live music vibe at 930 at night! Uh, who are their parents?! Luckily the staff kindly shut that down.
They have a couple different restaurant options on site and a Starbucks! The lobby has 3 or 4 different infused waters at the ready for guests.
The rooms were great– clean and spacious with a huge bathroom. The bathrooms were stocked wit extra toiletries one might need if forgotten.
We only stayed one night but we’ll definitely be back again!

Not worth $ 289 a night. I called twice in advance asking if it was possible to upgrade to a suite. Twice after confirming my reservation details I was told if a suite became available I wouldnt know until check in.
I arrived at the hotel at 4pm. I will say that the valet and bell staff were extremely accommodating and polite!!!
I gave the gal my last name and with a snotty attitude she told me I wasn’t checking in until the following day. Not the news I wanted to hear AFTER CALLING TWICE TO CONFIRM MY RESERVATION and driving 11 hours with 11 month old twins.
She insisted she was right which irritated even more. Then she offered to find me a room nearby my family members with double beds. I was even more irritared. We reserved a king 6 months in advance and now you are trying to do us a favor???
We arrive in our room with a king bed, no balcony. I immediately notice a dead bug on the carpet then another one near the sliding glass door. Normally that might not bother me… with 2 babies crawling on the floor, I find it disgusting.
There was a dark hair (not mine) in the sheets. Everything was dusty. I had to call for a hair dryer and a fridge. I requested 2 highchairs and the strap was broken on one and my daughter almost fell out of it. The electrical sockets were not working properly in the bathroom either.
I called the front desk and asked for the manager. Ernesto was understanding and apologetic. He said as soon as I left the room the next day just dial «0» and mention his name and request a deep clean and he would have everything taken care of. He also gave me a $ 100 credit. He also said if I had any other issues he was working all weekend and I could ask for him.
I called the next day per his request. An hour and a half later I arrived at our room and it hadn’t been cleaned!!! I called the front desk and asked for Ernesto… unfortunately he wasn’t coming in until 3. The gal never even asked if I wanted to leave a message.
Our cleaning gal knocked on our door a few hours later asking if we needed room service?! I let her know I called hours ago and she was kind and admitted she was never told that.
The rooms in general are super out dated. The night stand had a clock radio with a cd player. THe furniture is old and chipped. The fridge is just decoration and doesnt actually work… but you can request a medical fridge??! Everything was dusty… the table, night stand, the carpet, cords, etc.
I am not impressed with the level of service I have received at this hotel. I expressed my concerns to the manager before writing this Unilocal review and he was all talk and no action. We still have a dirty room, a broken highchair, and light sockets that don’t work. Great view but no chance I will return.

My job requires me to live out of a suitcase. I’ve seen more than my fair share of hotels and have interacted with multiple hotel employees. Let me just say JW Marriott in Tucson has, by far, exceeded my expectations.
It all started with a welcome email from their elite concierge. She asked when my intended arrival time was. She then sent me texts messages (my preferred method of contact) telling me where to find her when I arrived at the hotel. She had the key to my room ready (all this without my using the mobile check in app). Awesome!
Things just kept getting better. I’m here for a meeting with about 600 of my co workers. Think the employees won’t remember who I am? Not only did they all know my name but I randomly mentioned one of my favorite drinks (if loving red bull is wrong, I don’t want to be right). Guess what appeared at dinner for me? Guess what again appeared at my table for breakfast? Oh yes, they’ve become my energy drink supplier. Love them!
Not a fan of eating food cooked in mass quantities. But they had a breakfast smoothie bar for the health nut in me. Yes! This is fast becoming the best meeting ever.
They have a large gym with multiple weights, a lap pool and there is a clear running path marked around the golf course. The rooms are a decent size with a large bathroom.
All around the property they have different fruit and vegetable infused water for you to sample. I wasn’t really feeling the jalapeño water but you’ve got to try it just once.
Overall this is a great facility. I give the employees 10 stars. They are making my stay extremely enjoyable.

Ooooh la la. This might be my favorite hotel anywhere so far. It was seriously so nice from the moment you approach the door (everyone opens your car doors and the hotel doors and takes your luggage and is so professional), to check-​in, to room service, to the room itself, to the restaurants and bars.
Actually, the hotel is super nice before you even approach the door. It’s gorgeous. It’s situated up in a hill, sort of secluded and by itself. It reminded me of the hotel in The Shining but in the best way possible. You know, without the psychosis and murders and blood oceans gushing out of the elevator doors. It’s very beautiful and quiet with Native American decorations and a spectacular view from all sides!
My room was perfect — very cozy and spacious and sparkling clean. I loved the huge bathtub, and I actually took a bath! Then a shower the next day. The line of aromatherapy bath products they have here smell so amazing… I took most of them home with me! That lotion is like lavender magic.
This resort has some seriously beautiful grounds. Hiking trails (you can go on a guided hike every morning at 6:30), a heated lazy river, an amazing pool, and the most beautiful and comfortable patio I’ve ever seen. There are sooo many cushioned seats, heat lamps, tables, fire pits, chimneas, and more. The perfect place to work or lounge or enjoy a cocktail, or even dinner from Salud, one of the restaurant/​bars there. This hotel also has a Tequila Toast on the patio every evening at sunset… a complimentary tequila shot and you get to hear the legend of Poncho Villa told to you by the fires. It’s pretty magical!

You know the song from the show «Annie» where Annie first enters Daddy Warbucks’ mansion and along with Grace and staff, sings «I think I’m Gonna Like It Here?»
That’s how I felt as I pulled up and walked into this luxurious resort hotel last week… I was only there for 24 hours, but I wished I could have stayed longer!
So, unfortunately, there was no Cecile to pick out all of my clothes and no bath to be drawn by Mrs. Greer… but if I’d stayed more than just one night, I know there would be someone to make my bed!
In addition to friendly and accommodating staff, gorgeous views and top notch amenities, this JW offers the following:
*27 holes of championship golf (the view from my room overlooked a portion of this and it was beautiful!)
*a wonderful fitness center and a couple of exercise classes each day
*a daily 6:30am guided hike
*biking /​jogging /​hiking /​nature trails
*Hashani Spa (which I didn’t check out unfortunately either)
*several pools including one with a waterslide, and one with a lazy river
*a handful of restaurants and a Starbucks
*a 5:30pm tequila tasting
*clean, comfortable rooms
I’m definitely a fan and cannot wait to return on my next trip to Tucson to take advantage of more of the above… Clearly, my gut was right; I did like it here!
