Mercado San Agustin

I came to Tucson to familiarize myself with the city before moving here in August for grad school. Quite by accident I came across Mercado San Agustín. What a fun atmosphere! Music, wifi, tables in the courtyard outside. Breezy and friendly. Stella has great coffee and La Estrella Bakery had the best concha de chocolate I’ve eaten outside of Mexico City.

I love this location — so beautiful and relaxing with outdoor seating. This little square has mostly everything! Stella Java (try their Dirty Chi Latte), Augustine (try their shrimp and salad), and Mast (gorgeous pieces — I bought a leather bracelet). I recommend adding them to your FB so you will know when they have outdoor music on the weekends.

I love this place but they need better Wifi! La Estrella Bakery and the Stella Coffeeshop are our favorites! Especially La Estrella, best pan dulce in town! The courtyard is beautiful and the people are great! Please have better wifi so we can spend more time here!

Appears there are still a few kinks to be worked out since acclaimed chef Ryan Clark’s recent departure. While the food and service were still great on a recent Sunday evening, the kitchen was woefully backed up: we and others had to wait about an hour for entrees to arrive. Overheard rumor was that new chef had decided it would be a good idea to leave early and go to Bisbee. Hoping this was a one-​time aberration.

A reservation is highly recommended. We walked in at 530pm, even though the tables were empty, they were all reserved inside. You can sit at the bar area, which was very very crowded and still get food though. We were just in time for happy hour.
The bartenders were very nice and knowledgable. The cocktail list is amazing.
The calamari was tasty and so were the raw oyster mix. The beef tartare looked tasty but wasn’t so great. The meat was not minced at all but thickly chopped. The Caesar salad was yummy.

Delicious!!! I love the atmosphere and its a great place to study or just to grab a cappuccino and read a book. I come here for Seis and Stella. I want to try the posole or menudo soon tho. My dog loved it as well :)

Wowzers! This place is great! I have been here multiple times, and I have a little routine worked out: First, I goto La Estrella bakery and get some pan dulce and empanadas… and then, I venture next door and get Raspados… and then, I sit outside on the nice patio and enjoy! It really is a relaxing atmosphere, with plenty of indoor/​outdoor seating. There is usually live music in the courtyard, which isn’t overpowering or too loud. Love it!

This is a great place for a date night or a weekend excursion. All of the little shops in here have something to like. Every time my girlfriend and I go, we try to stop by the La Estrella Bakery to see if there’s anything new that we might want to try. It has great outdoor seating and the atmosphere is really enjoyable.

So sleek and fun! Recently was here for a Saturday night live music, happy hour! The outside patio area is cute and decorated with pretty lights. Returned a few days later for a coffee date and it was equally as great! It is a little on the pricier side of things but definitely good food and shops.

Parents, take note, Mercado San Agustin is the perfect place to bring your kids, turn them loose and let them scream their lungs out. Think of it as kind of a dog park for hyperactive children. Anything goes! So your rugrats are throwing a tantrum next to someone who was trying to enjoy a nice meal outside? Not your problem, right, ‘cuz that’s what parents do here.

Just what Tucson needed! After being gone from Tucson for six years, living in Seattle and DC, this spot is now my go to for amazing food, gifts and fresh, local food.

I love the Mercado San Agustin. How do I know it’s love? Every time I visit the Mercado, I feel good. I leave feeling great and excited to return again. This feeling never fails.
There are wonderful shops to enjoy at the Mercado and lovely choices to have a bite to eat. On my latest venture to the Mercado, I was pleasantly surprised at how busy it was on a Wednesday at noon. Luckily, my friend was already waiting and had saved a table for us. We enjoyed a fantastic lunch from Seis. Highly recommend the avocado tacos… fresh and delicious! After lunch, I made a quick stop at the awesome La Estrella Bakery for some fresh (still warm) tortillas and a couple of fruit empanadas. The tortillas are my favorite in town! The empanadas are a perfect treat. I ordered a pumpkin and a pineapple (the pumpkin is my fav and the pineapple is my S.O.‘s fav). My final stop on the trip was to Stella Java for a vanilla Italian soda. I stumbled upon this option when I was searching for a non– caffeine option and find them to be seriously fantastic!
I thought an update on how the Mercado is still a rockin’ place to spend some time was necessary at this point. I don’t want to fail to mention that MAST is located at the Mercado and has unique gift ideas and one of the coolest vibes. Oh, and if you like cheese and wine… Blu is probably right up your alley. Lots to see and enjoy at the Mercado!

I enjoy coming here for lunch to grab a bite at one of the local restaurants, sit outside, read a book, and enjoy the lovely patio area. It’s an oasis in the desert that I will drive clear across town to enjoy.

I love this place, I often stop by after biking up A mountains in the morning. I can grab an ice tea at stellas, a pumpkin empanada at estrellas. and I can sit out in lovely courtyard without a care in the world! The Mercado also provides free wifi. so that is a giant giant bonus. Wish I lived closer. as I really do love this quaint little plaza

I love the Mercado. They are just doing it right. So much good food and drinks, stores are beautiful, great events. Just a happy place to sit and enjoy or bring a group of people… Something for everyone. And now, at the end/​beginning of the streetcar line!

I absolutely love the Mercado San Agustin. The property itself is beautiful, charming, peaceful, serene, and always clean and cared for. In the center, there’s the courtyard with some green space and a variety of different seating options for the various eating spots in the building that boxes around the courtyard. The seating is all shaded, and most of it is comfortable. There’s also some relatively new, decent, shared seating with longer tables inside the building, near Stella Java/​Sonora SnoCones. Seating inside was much needed for a long time, so it’s good to see that it has been added!
The shops inside of the Mercado are locally owned and they make fantastic products. You can get everything from breakfast burritos to lunch to fancy dinner to dessert to coffee here, and all at different shops! It’s awesome! There’s also some shops to buy knick knacks, furniture, and decorations. Most stuff is more rustic in style, which is not for me, but I still love walking through the shops.
What I love so much about my time here is the feel of the atmosphere. It feels like you’re in a quaint little neighborhood, where everyone is relaxed and nice to interact with. I always feel so at peace here, and I never want to leave. It’s a real gem in Tucson, for sure!
And now, the streetcar stops here! No excuse to not go to the Mercado and try some of the awesome foods and treats available there! You won’t regret your time there!

I was confused by the idea of the Mercado at first since it isn’t exactly downtown and I wasn’t sure what would bring me here but I recently have grown to love it! My running group often meets here because there are a number of routes we can run in the area and it is the perfect place to finish because we can get delicious coffee and fresh pastries and sit out in the courtyard to enjoy them while not having to worry about scaring anyone off with our post run smelliness! I also love all of the other restaurants and shops in the Mercado that you really can’t find elsewhere. The atmosphere is just for a lack of a better description awesome and really unique. Oh and did I mention that there are only local business here? Seriously… come check it out.

I love the Mercado. I love the little shops in it. I love the farmer’s market on Thursday’s, which the bar at Café Agustin is surprisingly open for. I love that on a lazy morning, you can grab coffee from Stella Java, pastries from La Estrella, and breakfast burritos from the Taqueria and feast in the open air courtyard. And I love that it’s pet friendly, so that you can do all of these things with your favorite pooch.
My one complaint: They throw a lot of private events here, but they don’t put up signs that anything is going on. It’s a little annoying to walk over for dinner, and be kicked out as soon as you get your food, by the guests of the party. I wish they did a better job of closing off the space for private events.

What a lovely space!!! I was here for a canning class, hosted by Food Swap Tucson. Lorraine Glazar schooled us on traditional water bath canning. Water bath canning requires no fancy equipment and is easy to do at home. Lorraine shared her esoteric recipes for tomatoes, prickly pear preserves and an onion relish. We even got to take home the jelly and the onion relish… I was really lemming for the tomatoes too!

A: It is an über cool group of bakers, gardeners, cooks who assemble and swap food! They also, host canning classes!!! I believe the next one is going to be on olives. I should mention, you may be swapping and hob nobing with some of the chefs who host underground supper clubs.
I was so jazzed to work inside of the 1, 300 sq. ft. commercial kitchen, something I had never done before. This kitchen is brand spankin new, sparkly clean, top notch equipment. 6 burners, 2 commercial grade ovens, plenty of preparation and packaging room, two steam trays, two chilled sandwich tables, 40 lb. fryer, broilers, and the refrigerator/​freezer/​dry storage space. What an asset to the community… esp. small craft local food businesses! Even many of our tasty food trucks use the space. They have lockers to store your equipment (you need to bring your own pots/​pans) for the frequent patrons.
Get this! You can rent it between 5 and 20 dollars an hour! I seriously am considering putting on some Indian and Thai cooking classes to share my mad skills.
After class, I checked out the bakery, the taqueria, the brasserie, and sno cone place… all looked really nice. People were noshing on pasteriesand scrumptous Mexican egg dishes in the open air courtyard under the cerulean sky, while two musicians merrily played some sweet tunes.
I spied some super cool locally-​made products for sale, some really cool jewelry and some lucha libre pinatas that could festoon the best of the best shin digs!
