Reid Park Biking/Walking Path

This place is awesome! We love the park, nice grass, Boardwalk for rollerskating and watching the train go by. It’s a great place to take the kids and just play soccer or football and have a picnic. Minus one star for the disgusting women’s bathrooms…

What a beautiful place to go on a sunny 70° day. The large duck ponds are a breath of fresh air as we are so accustomed to dust and concrete. The fountain, fake water wall, and man made creek make for a spectacular scene. Around the duck ponds is super green lush grass covered in shade from the surrounding palm, date, and olive trees. There’s a kids train that rides around the pond, and ice cream trucks with a variety of cold treats that play children’s melodies in the background. When the childhood melodies mix with ice cream, ducks, and scenery the feel good vibes arise. It feels like summer.
Only Con’s: Some areas are covered in duck poop and smell horrific. There are signs everywhere warning you not to feed the ducks but plenty of dumb people there doing it.

Reid Park and the walking path = perfect distance for a weekday walk if one doesn’t have time to totally retreat to the beautiful surrounding mountains.

I grew up on Country Club between Broadway and Reid Park and my parents still live there so I’m very familiar with this path. However, now that’s it paved the entire way it’s much better than when I used to run it to keep in shape for high school cross country and track back in the 80’s. If you want a good four mile workout, you can go all the way around the park and the golf course. If you just want three miles, use Randolph Way instead. And because it’s paved it’s also great for bicycling or roller blading which is helpful when we bring the kids down to see their grandparents. For runners, cyclists, or skaters in central Tucson this is a great place to go!

Great place to come & enjoy family & friends while getting fit! The bike/​running/​walking path is great & always plenty people around so in case you’re alone you’ll feel safe!
Outdoors & exercise can beat it & it’s free no membership required!

Daisy, my corgi, loves all the attention she gets here. As for me, I like how this track is nice and long (about 3 miles) and how it’s well lit and safe. I don’t feel like I’m going to get BTKd here, which is a huge plus.
Good people watching too. If you are lucky enough, you will see the guy who collects aluminum cans and hauls them around in this Mad Max-​looking contraption that sits on top of his bike. Another sight: people wearing those «sweat» suits that look like black plastic garbage bags.
Sometimes I get a whiff of the zoo animals and that kind of bums me out. But then again, it motivates me to run a bit faster to get away from the smell.
Never a dull moment at the Reid walking path.

It’s great to have a space like this in the middle of town for outdoor activities! There are always people walking, running, biking, rollerblading, walking dogs, etc. It is also stroller friendly. This path is quite heavily used which sometimes makes it hard to run (and I would assume bike) on because there are a lot of walkers that will take the entire width of the path and not pay attention to others around them who might also be using it. There are usually mile marker on the path (starting near Hi-​Corbett field) which is nice if you’re into that kind of thing. The loop from there around on Broadway to Alvernon then 22^nd to Randolph Way is 3 miles. You can also run the entire outside of the park to get closer to 5 miles. There are water fountains and restrooms along the path which I appreciate. I do wish that the entire path were a little better lit though — the section that connects from Alvernon to 22^nd around the lake specifically has very little lighting. It is also a little distracting when you’re running on the section along Broadway because of all the fried food smells coming from El Con but I don’t think anything can be done about that!

A paved 4 mile track for running, biking or walking your dog. Partially shaded with views of a golf course, pond, park, zoo, dog park. Centrally located with a ton of parking!

I really love this park. They have a rec center with events/​classes, as well as swimming (nice for the hot Tucson summers). My son loves running all over the playground and playing on the swingsets. They have a duck pond, he loves, with a quaint little running waterfall the kids just love. They even have a little train on a few of the Saturdays we went, where you can ride around the pond (10 minutes or so) for $ 2 per person. A good place to run, jog, rollerblade, play catch, picnic, bbq etc. And, they regularly have events/​festivals/​fairs at the park, that a nice, inexpensive and healthy way to get out of the house and enjoy time with your loved ones. A true Tucson gem.

A nice path to take a early morning walk/​run or a bike ride. A 2.9 loop if you go by the pond with sun and shade. Not very busy during the week, a lot busier on the weekend. Lot of options to make your walk/​run or bike as long as you would like!

I’m not a gym person — I will always opt to run outdoors instead if I can help it. This track is one of my favorites.
It’s an appropriate distance, the moisture from the greenery and sprinklers provide a much-​needed cooling effect in the summertime, and there’s seemingly always a fellow runner who gives you the friendly nod/​smile, which is mutually understood as a silent, «I’m cheering you on, keep going!»
It can be noisey, as it’s situated betwee two east-​west streets, and sometimes the catcalls from passing drivers can be super irritating.
At least if there’s any safety concerns, there’s a police station RIGHT there.

I have a love/​hate with the path:
The loves:
It is a great distance
I love the loop that goes by the duck pond (nice and shady)
I generally feel very safe
The friendliness of the morning walkers/​runners
The hates:
People take up both lanes and seem cranky when you try to pass them
People want to run down the middle of the lane, even when no one is the the left/​right of them
Aggressive bikers (depending on the time of day, there can be too many)
Dog walkers who leave behind poop nuggets.

Bored with the same old scene while on the treadmill at your gym? Head to Reid Park!
After a long day at work sometimes the gym environment just isn’t very appealing so I like to head over to Reid Park and take the 3-​mile loop. The path is well paved and even striped to mark coming and going lanes. You’ll find a wide variety of people on the loop and that makes it so much more appealing than the gym sometimes. I’m a people watcher and there’s plenty of opportunity on the Reid Park Biking/​Walking Path. You’ve got fitness walkers like me, roller bladers, serious runners, dog walkers, kids on bikes and families. Plus — there’s no cheating and quitting early. Because of park fencing you are pretty much forced to do the entire 3-​mile loop, unlike the gym where you can just step off the treadmill.
The path runs along Broadway/​Alvernon/​22^nd but the passing traffic really isn’t a hinderance. I love the portion of the path that winds around behind the police station and along the duck pond. It’s a little bit of lush paradise back there!
You’ll find a couple of water fountains along the way and there is a public restroom in the Jim Reffkin Tennis Center that is clean and easily accessible. You can even catch an intense tennis match as you walk by the courts or check out the golfers on the driving range. I especially love the ghost bike tribute along Alvernon.
The path can sometimes get a little crowded after work but once the weather heats up, it opens up. And that’s about the time I head back to the air-​conditioned gym.

Love this place — ran my first 10K here! One of the few places in Tucson with a good amount of grass (which I, being from Florida, really appreciate). I also love that they have small bodies of water (with ducks!) — It really makes the place a lot more scenic! They have so many great places to hang out and have picnics. Lots of covered pavilions with picnic tables and BBQ pits, big dog parks, kid playscapes, etc. And seemingly endless path for walking/​jogging. I highly recommend it!

After three summers in Tucson, I am pining for my California walking paths somethin’ awful. All the Unilocal-​love for this three-​mile track finally brought me out on a slightly-​less-​than-​scorching Saturday morning.
The Pluses: There are pine trees! And eucalyptus! And green pastures (okay, a golf course — but a very lush greeny-​green-​green one) just beyond.
The Less than Pluses: Two lengths of the path parallel two of the city’s busier thoroughfares. But, hey. I live here now and I’ll take it. I count myself yet another fan.

The Red Park Biking/​Walking Path is a real gem in the heart of Tucson for anyone that would like to enjoy a little physical activity. There is a paved loop around the entire park that is around 3 miles… making it pretty close to perfect for people training for a 5k race, which was what I was doing the last time I was in Tucson.
There is ample parking all over the park, and while the path had quite a few runners and bikers on it everyone we encountered seemed to have a good understand of the rules of the path.
For those that don’t know: STAY TO THE RIGHT.
The only thing I really dislike is how close the path is to major streets. I understand why the path has to be set up this way, I just hate running by cars that are polluting the air I am trying to breathe!
Other then the minor issue with air pollution, I am a big fan of this path. In my opinion, it is the best place to run in Tucson city limits.

I walk here nearly every night with my two dogs, late enough that the 100 degree daytime heat has subsided. The path is well lit — except for a few street lights that turn on and off at random as I pass beneath them — and well-​traveled, even at 9 or 10 PM. People walk or bike alone, in pairs, with dogs, with kids on scooters, babies in strollers or all of the above. The police substation at the corner of 22^nd and Alvernon ensures that the park is also well-​patrolled, making it safe for night walking. Getting around or past other users of the path is seldom a problem if you are flexible in your willingness to break right or left.
The main path is listed as a 3.1 mile loop, but you can extend your route out to Country Club along 22^nd or Calle Campestre or both. My current routine begins at Miko’s Corner dog park, skirts the edge of the zoo and ends back at Picnic Place, for about 4.5 miles plus any walking inside the dog park. Works for me!

Another local favorite ! What a refreshing outdoorsy perfect spot for an evening stroll, jog or bike ride. My dogs are always anxious for a walk around the park and I am always in need of more exercise, people watching and fresh air! It’s also a great spot for hitting some balls at the golf range, playing a little tennis and last but not least the community center at Randolph offers some amazing classes. I just took a pottery class & it was a great introduction to the pottery wheel & I met some awesome folks to boot ! Check it out Unilocalers!

My LOVE for Reid Park’s Biking/​Walking Path goes from my fingers all the way down to my toes. Well more to my feet than anything else honestly.
I go here to run Reid’s paved, three mile gradient filled path, and most of Tucson does the same. From students, to the U of A track team, to old marathoners, and shuffle’rs as well. You’ll find them on the trail.
It’s well worth every moment, and is by far one of my favorite places to go running. I LOVE this place. If you’re someone who needs a rabbit to follow, like I do, it’s a good place to stay motivated.
Even during the summer when the heat is at it’s peak. Reid is the place to go. There’s a nice moist breeze that flows off the golf course when you pass by certain sections, and it is quite refreshing.
There’s not much else to say about ol’ Reid Park. It should be taken for a spin. Even if it’s just to walk the dog.

GREAT for 5k training! This is probably the best path in town when it comes to training for a 5k or wanting to run a 5k daily for cardio.
The trail is completely paved all the way around with hilly portions along the way. I use the term «hilly» loosely! (I live in the Tucson Mtns… that’s hilly!) There are always people around which is nice for early morning or late evening runs and it’s always quite eclectic for people watching! Take your iPod and head out. You’ll enjoy, I swear! And to tag on what Corey D. said, take water. There’s only 1 water stop along the way.
