Tap & Bottle

Greatest Taproom in Tucson. There are others with larger taplists out there but the whole package is tops. No domestic piss beer, all craft. They do have some wines on tap too, bottle selection is great and the corkage fee is so cheap!
Atmosphere is great and fun for dates, at times it can be a bit hipstery and you can seem on the random night not to fit in without skinny jeans, a waxed mustache and a trucker cap but totally worth it. I don’t enjoy Thursdays when they have live music personally, too loud to carry on a conversation. Location is great near downtown. Favorite place for a great beer in the Old Pueblo.

I think we came in at the wrong time. I have read and looked over a series of excellent reviews on Tap & Bottle and I was so excited to stop in. I saw ahead of time that they had some Fort Collins beers on tap (I was particularly happy that they had Funkwerks — and New Belgium [duh]), so we made our stop in on a Monday when they opened at 2pm.
The bartender was… fairly cold. Almost icy. He did not seem in the mood or had much interest to help us when we asked about a beer flight. It was not the welcoming environment I’d expect from an awesome sounding beer house in Tucson.
I ended up going with the following in a flight:
–Tropic King Saison (Funkwerks)
–Prop Culture Funky-​Saison (Odell)
–Aunt Sally Tart Sour (Laguintas)
–Stronghold Session (Dragoon).
It’s hard to go wrong with Lagunitas, and in this case it was my favorite of the four.
I really like how involved in the community Tap & Bottle seems to be — with all of the food truck nights and additional fun beer events offered. I wanted to ask more about what some of these events entailed… but there was no way I was going to go up to the icy bartender to ask. So here I continue to sit in my utter lack of knowledge.
Before we left, I made my way to the «bottle» section of Tap & Bottle to see if they had one that I’ve been searching all over Tucson for — New Belgium’s Tart Lychee. The guy who was doing the stocking made up for the bartender’s demeanor; he was a lot more friendly and helpful when I asked if he had it in stock (turns out, he had ordered it the day before, and was hoping it’d be in the next day). I had plans to stop in on Tuesday — when he thought it’d be in, but in all honesty, when the time came, I wasn’t in the mood to go in again — it just didn’t leave a great taste in my mouth from the previous day’s experience.
The next time I’m in Tucson, I do plan to stop in again — and I hope for a much better experience the second time around. Until then…

This is only my second time here but it’s a definite must-​stop whenever I’m in town. World class beers with chill, friendly service.

I came here for a babywearing fundraiser (a Saturday 12 – 3) and I was pleased to find out that Rebecca, the owner is a babywearer herself. Bonus! Part taproom, part retail outfitter, both are equally awesome. The place is on point in design and purpose. Chalkboard menu– check. Edison lighting– check. Exposed beam ceiling– check. Raw brick walls-​check. Enough design talk– let’s get to the goods– the libations! My eyes were immediately drawn to the Ska Mexican lager on randall with key limes. Randall– what’s that you say? It’s an organoleptic hop transducer module, a double-​chamber filter that you connect to a tap of your favorite beer and fill with flavor-​enhancing ingredients to make a beer infusion. If you know me, I am passionate about infusions. Seating is in the front along with a Ms. pac-​man, bar with beer and wine taps in the middle and the back is filled with glorious beer coolers that are nicely organized by type. A whole cooler of sours! YESS! However, I went to the rare and limited selection and got myself a sour that was limit one. Good thing as it ran me almost 14 smackers. It was so worth it– if you were wondering. If you are wanting to try something different in terms of a beer, get yourself here. And fear not they have plenty of offerings that are less than two dollars as well…
They are definitely in tune with trends. Regional craft beers, rotating food trucks outside, food pairing events such as cup quequitos cupcakes or girl scout cookies, beer clubs, beer school, beer flights, and beer cocktails.
There were two staff members. The guy manning the coolers was knowledgeable and personable. Never felt rushed and I enjoyed talking with him. His recommendations were stellar. The bartender also freely handed out samples which was great. There is also water that you can help yourself too. There was a hound inside, which didn’t bother me personally but have been a concern of others.
As a Detroiter I was tickled pink to see Mcclures potato chips– a pickle company that makes pickled flavored potato chips and the best damn bloody mary mix ever– no one should buy anything else for their michalads and marys… seriously get some online you will not regret it. Esp. Kathy N. I wonder if they use it in their bloody beer cocktail… I shall inquire. I’m making a trip back to get more of the spicy pickle potato chips alone.

I Love this place. The Tap list never disappoints, and they always have something new and interesting in the Bottle coolers — which for many beers, even with the modest corkage fee to drink it there, can provide even more value. Every beer on tap is served in the right amount at the right temperature and in the right glass. Although the exposed brick interior can sometimes be a tad loud, the overall vibe is friendly and chill. Just a gem in Tucson’s burgeoning craft beer and bar scene.

As a general rule, the finer things in life are harder to find or achieve. This even applies to my favorite hole-​in-​a-​wall drinking establishment… Tap & Bottle! But once you find it, they make it easy to enjoy the finer things by offering an incredible selection of beer and wine.
The sign says ‘Tap & Bottle’ but it could easily say ‘Celebrate Libations!’ In fact, it’s partially exclaimed in the décor. The words «Yay Beer!» are visible in the back above the coolers.
There are several reasons why I hit this place with friends whenever I’m in Tucson. 1) There’s nothing like it in Phoenix (yet). 2) The character of the space. I believe it use to be a hardware store. 3) You can enjoy wine or beer on tap. 4) Or go grab a bottle or can from the coolers in back. 5) They fill growlers or their own «crowlers». 6) The selection is always changing and shows serious props to the local brewers! Go Arizona Beer! 7) It’s not a sports bar. There are no televisions. Just great people hanging out having conversations and enjoying whatever is in their glass. 8) The menu board with the next keg «on deck». 9) The variety of food vendors and food trucks who park out front to fill the void of not having a kitchen. I could go on…
The only downside is the parking situation. Spaces are scarce, but that’s typical in this part of town. Be patient, walk a little further, and you will be rewarded!
Seriously, I know the shiny lights draw the college crowd to Fourth Avenue and Congress, like moths to a bug zapper. But anyone looking for a chill place to sample nearly anything, should wander over a couple more blocks to the northwest corner of 6^th Avenue and 7^th Street. Thanks T+B!!!

Outstanding beer selections! The service was bad. We were sitting at the bar and basically ignored. The place wasn’t crowded, so there was no need for this.
Our beers had a 3 inch head on them and we were told that it was supposed to be that way, NOT!

Solid beer selection on both drafts and bottles. The scene is very hipsterish in the inside. Fun spot with lots of coolers in the back full of bottles including good local and even some exotic specialities from out of state. There are a bunch of drafts with some great beers, some I was in surprised that I would find in Tucson, given I have not seen the beer anywhere else in the country (Lagunitas CitrusSeinesis). It was also nice that they offer growlers and crawlers to go. I will say that I think they overcharged me when I got home. It did not make sense that 8 crowlers at $ 13 each (plus $ 1/​bottle), one pint of beer, one flight and one hat was $ 200. Doesn’t add up to me and a reason why they get 4 stars and not 5. I wish my emailed receipt was itemized to show me why it was so much… unless a hat was $ 50 dollars, which I think can’t be true.
All in all, fun spot and I would go here again in the future.

Alas, I searched Total Wine for weeks and could not fine neither Ballast Point Pineapple Sculpin nor Watermelon Dorado. Any place that has new release Ballast Point beer when I can’t find same in the entire Valley of the Sun is a five-​star establishment in my book. The selection is well organized and includes many So Cal beer of which I’ve missed dearly since moving to AZ.
Aside from their wide assortment of beers, T&B is a lively place that I will definitely check out again/​further upon my next stop to Tucson. The place was fully packed on a Saturday night yet the staff was still on it enough to complete my purchase right away. An easy 5 stars to these guys. Do yourself a favor and check them out!

Excellent selection of draught beers. (They also have tap wines.)((However, I know nothing about wines. So, I shall reserve judgement there.)) The fill growlers, and crowlers. (32 oz. Aluminum to go containers.) Why three stars you ask, with three people behind the bar, not one person ever acknowledged us, let alone took our order. So, be aware of that when you come here. Other than that everything was fine.
P. S. Empire Pizza will deliver here… for a fee, of course.

How lucky am I to find the best wine/​beer bar my first night in town? Sourheads: GO HERE. Wine snobs: GO HERE. Knowledgeable barkeeps (thanks Connor, Mike, Wally, Becca), diverse crowd in many ways, live music Thursdays (the band I saw 5 stars), tame days, pleasantly packed nights without sacrificing service, package store to drink there or take away, nice aesthetic, friendly owners, purse hooks, what more could you want? (Liquor, I suppose. In which case, keep it movin’.) Other bars, take notes.

This is probably one of my favorite places to start off the night! They have a great rotating selection of beers and wines as well as a fridge section with tons more that they can serve you as well! Just a really great place to come hang out with friends and have a few drinks. They also have live music occasionally and a different food cart every night. Bartenders that work there are all great! Not the usually crazy bar scene, much more relaxed and a good place to have conversation.

There is a nice selection of beers here and are reasonably priced. The staff really know a lot about their product and have consistently made some good recommendations. I generally am not a huge beer drinker, but that doesn’t stop me from coming almost every week. Good place to hang out with your friends. They also usually have a good truck right out front which is convenient since they don’t serve food.

This place is great, all around. And I just realized recently that they sell TONS of individual bottles of specialty craft beer (and wine) from the coolers in the back.
The staff is usually accommodating and they know what they are doing/​what suggestions to make.
There is definitely an energetic, hip, downtown feel at this place every time I have been here which keeps me coming back.
The only thing I feel like they are missing is a better outside/​patio area in front. I start getting anxious if I’m inside a small-​ish place with a bunch of people for an extended period of time, but other than that, I love it here!

Tap the bottle is a great mixture of all the things that a beer nerd and a beer novice look for. Whether it’s limited or local beers on tap, knowledgeable staff willing to give great recommendations, or a large selection of bottles to drink on premise or for to go, you can find all of that here.
You will almost always find owners Scott and Rebecca in the bar. If you have a question about anything that’s on tap or a style of beer, the staff is very willing and helpful to provide recommendations and information. There is no kitchen on site. Patrons are allowed to bring in food, or you can try something from one of the local food trucks that will most likely be outside.
If you’re into local music, there are often bands on Thursdays. So, if you’re looking for a fun place to try some great beers make sure to get in and check this place out. I have enjoyed a number of trips here, and even though I live reasonably far away, I keep coming back.

Great tap list and special beer releases are the reasons to come here. Some special taps can be a bit pricey. Expect to pay $ 6 – 10 per beer. If you take issue with spending that much on one beer, you can find some awesome and affordable options in the bottle shop! They carry a great variety. They also have good prices on local wines. I do find Tap & Bottle a little hipstery for my taste. Almost every time I’ve been in there, I get a whiff of someone who’s not had a shower recently. It’s a very casual atmosphere. I suppose you can say that about a lot of places downtown though.
When it’s not busy, there is free parking around, which is a plus, especially if you are here for a beer before dinner or a show nearby. I’ll often park here if I’m going anywhere downtown. When there are special events, it can get pretty crowded and be difficult or impossible to find a place to sit. It can also get very loud. There is no food served, but they often have great food trucks parked outside and it’s a short walk to 4^th Ave. or downtown restaurants. I have a lot of friends who frequent the place and have high opinions of the bartenders here, but they have generally been short with me and not overly friendly.
As other reviewers have said, expect there to be dogs and kids. I am a lover of children, furry and not, but their presence in a place that serves alcohol and no food (where I get carded at the door) is very perturbing to me. The owners have a baby who is pretty much growing up there, and several people and employees bring in dogs. If kids are well behaved, I have no problem, but I attended T&B’s 2^nd anniversary party, and I probably won’t come back on a busy night again. There were tons of kids running around, screaming, and one poor kid tripped and fell in front of me and, naturally, started wailing. All the parents did was scoop her up and allow her to carry on. I had to yell to my friend so she could hear me. It’s not that I hate kids, but, when I’m meeting other adults for a beer and conversation at a place that doesn’t serve food, I don’t want to hear screaming kids.

Great selection of craft beers. Their cans and bottles selection is simply astounding! The staff is friendly but could be a little more helpful or attentive. I had a few questions but the two servers on duty were fairly enthralled in a conversation with another group of customers. It was a bit hard to get and maintain their attention.
They offer 20 craft beers on tap. The atmosphere is really interesting and pleasant. It has the old downtown feel to it. I will probably frequent this place on occasion but it’s a little far from my side of town.
There is some room for improvement but they definitely have a good thing going. I will be adding photos later.

This is easily one of my favorite and most frequented spots in Tucson. I was introduced to Tap and Bottle when I visited Tucson as a prospective student for a graduate program. I remembered it when I actually moved here and now find myself there one or more times a week. I like to call Tap & Bottle a beer café rather than a bar. The atmosphere is very relaxed (though a little crowded on Friday/​Saturday nights) and never disappoints. I find it enjoyable to be able to speak to friends and actually be able to hear them unlike most typical bars.
The taps are constantly updated, which is reflected on the printed menus as soon as they happen (and on Twitter), and there are numerous beers and wines to choose from daily. The bottle collection is the biggest I have seen so far in Tucson too.
The only downside to Tap & Bottle is that they don’t have a kitchen, so if you are looking to stay a while and enjoy some food, be sure to check if there will be a food truck that night before making plans. 4^th avenue is only a short walk away and has plenty of food options as well.
Overall, this is a one of a kind craft beer and wine bar and will remain a staple in my Tucson adventures. I highly recommend it if you are visiting from out of town at any time of year.

Who let all the dogs in? Seriously??? I saw 4 dogs while I was there. One was running around without a leash … tiny one with people drinking??? Plus unsanitary.
Huge selection of stuff to drink … the cases are massive and it is not cheap. Would be good for a taste testing party.
The beers on tap were not to my liking.
Very loud at night. Tons of hipsters roaming free.
Hard to hear the band if you are in the back.
Hot dog truck for food if you are so inclined.
An afternoon visit might be more pleasant.

In order to get a taste of the local beer scene, I stopped in to Tap & Bottle on a recent trip to Tucson. I was really impressed by T&B because it is so much more than just another beer bar. In the back they have an incredible number of bottled beers from all over the world. Whomever does the buying for them knows their stuff, as it is pretty much a «who’s, who» of the beer world. You can buy bottles to go (at incredible prices), or drink ‘em there for an extra $ 1.50.
The front houses a more traditional bar area, with twenty quality beers on tap. You can buy flights (~$ 8 for four pours), pints, or even fill a growler. The beer list mostly consists of beers from Arizona/​California/​Colorado, but there are also a few gems thrown in from elsewhere. They also have wine, if that’s your thing.
T&B is hipster, but somehow manages not to be pretentious. It is cozy. The type of place I would go to unwind after a long day. They have lots of events, including tastings and live music. Food trucks can be found Thursday-​Saturday evenings.
I would recommend T&B to both local and traveling beer enthusiasts!
