We’ve been coming here for years now! We drive all the way from Castaic anytime we need my husbands car serviced by Alex’s performance! They are so friendly and honest which is hard to find these days! We highly recommend this place!

I have found my new mechanic!
I came out of work one day and noticed this tube hanging from the back of my car. I went home that night and looked up mechanics on Unilocal.Alex’s had great reviews and I decided to take my car here. Woke up early Saturday and arrived at Alex’s. Alex himself greeted me. Really nice guy! I showed him the tube hanging down. It ended up just being an LED light (thank goodness!) Alex got right down and started taking it off. He needed to get a tool and finished the job. I then told him about this scraping in the front. The plastic cover that protects the engine had come loose. Alex put the car up on the ramp and screwed in the loosened screws. I was out of there in less than 10 minutes. And… he didn’t charge me a dime. What?! That’s unheard of these days!
I went on over to the window and met Martha. Another really nice person! Both of my cars needed oil changes, so I made appointments for the following Saturday on the spot. Showed up at 8 for our appointments and Alex was there and ready to go. In and out in about an hour for 2 cars. Job well done and really reasonable prices! I have already referred my daughter here and will continue coming here.

What a pleasure it was to find Alex’s Performance Auto Repair! I am new to this area and was impressed with the previous reviews here on Unilocal.
Martha at the front desk was friendly,
professional and so helpful. She did a lot of research for us regarding replacement of a stolen catalytic converter for our 2004 Honda Element before we even committed to an appointment!
Upon arrival to get the converter replaced„ we mentioned concern of a weird noise from the car when going up a hill. They said it would test run and also checked out. We left the car with them.
Alex’s called a few hours later saying they found major and expensive problems and that they did not want to install the converter, without talking to us first. ($ 1300 job for them)
All said and done, we opted out of the catalytic replacement per their recommendation and will shop for a replacement car. Our biggest surprise was that Alex’s Performance Auto Repair’s
Bill to us was ZERO! We will definitely be returning for any and all future repairs!

My husband and I have a 93 Jeep Cherokee that we treat as a family member and well as the years took a toll on her she made all sorts of noises and had all sorts of problems. We first took our Jeep to Alex in early fall 2014 and over the course of the next year, Alex worked with us to take care of all the strange problems our Jeep developed over the years. Our dream was to get our Jeep back in great shape as we had planned to relocate to Seattle. (We are here now and with our beloved 93′ Jeep). Unfortunately the Jeep developed a bad lower end knock. Alex worked with us to inspect the rest of the vehicle to determine if he thought and other parts would fail soon, and then co-​ordinated with a machine shop for repair. Once we got the jeep back — the knock was solved, however the machine shop had incorrectly installed the rear main seal — and thus we were leaking plenty of oil. Alex took the Jeep back the same day and fixed it himself in a few hours at no charge despite this failure due to the machine shop. They even threw in free oil changes for the year. Martha is amazing as well. One of the visits — we were on vacation and she was flexible enough to send us email status updates since we did not have phone access. She is always willing to take the time to explain what is going on and does not pressure you into sales. Overall, I would use Alex and Martha for all my car repair needs. They are fast, reasonable, authentic, and they stand by their work!

My husband took his van to another shop for smog. He was told it did not pass and was quoted $ 900 to replace parts to pass smog. He took to Alex to get his opinion and had it REPAIRED vs. Replaced for $ 100.
What??? Someone honest and reasonable. Repairs vs replacing everything? Wow. These folks know how to run a business and keep loyal customers.
This is our second experience with them and we will not ever go elsewhere for auto repairs. We don’t see much of Alex since his head is always under the hood, but Martha is pretty awesome! Great customer service, fast, and more than reasonable pricing! Highly recommended!
And let’s not stop there. They referred us to another place up the road for more reasonable priced smog and the cost was almost 50% less than the fist place and the van passed smog.
Gotta love these folks! Go see them before you have that bad experience and save yourself time, aggravation, and money. You won’t be disappointed

Unfortunately, the Unilocal review I posted was earned. My Expedition ran on original spark plugs until 186,000 miles when I brought it to Alex for replacement. Less than 25,000 miles later, the engine threw a code and I discovered a hose leaking antifreeze over cylinder 4 and it needed help. I checked the wire and noticed it was seated quite high compared to all the others. I adjusted the leaking hose and tightened the clamp and replaced the wire. The problem persisted.
After watching videos of how to change the plugs on this car, where numerous parts are systematically removed to allow access to the hard-​to-​reach plugs, I decided the car needed professional help. My understanding is that the labor time quoted, the standards used, are for professional standards, where professionals need the time quoted to take the necessary steps to do the job right. Alex told me he merely gathered and tied up the hoses to reach the back plug.
Well, now the mystery of how my hose became loose in the first place was solved. Also, he told me he could not screw the plug for cylinder four all the way down into its fully seated position. Because he only partially inserted the previous plug at the 186,000 mile change is the only logical reason. The threads in that chamber were now destroyed from that change, which was in my opinion a result of his not taking the required, professional steps to gain best access, but rather relying on a short cut that did not allow enough access to fully seat the new plug and also caused a leaky hose. Alex remarked he can’t now re-​thread the chamber for the new plug because he doesn’t have the tool.
So now I have a damaged chamber after paying professional rates for professional time that was not taken to do the job right from the beginning. I paid additional money to replace a coil and having brought the car in to replace one bad cylinder which was made bad by your previous work, I now have additional timing problems, neither of which was at all evident before this last episode of service. Blaming the converter or exhaust is a poor excuse.
The bottom line is that I was charged labor rates for professionally mandated time to perform the job and instead, a short cut was used that prevented the correct access needed to correctly install the new plug and additionally caused permanent damage to my engine. That is what was put forth in the Unilocal review.

Honest, reliable. Give you options that work within your budget. Courteous staff and they do an excellent job. So glad that I found them.

Found Alex’s using Unilocal. I am a pretty new customer but with all 5-​star reviews, I think I have my forever-​mechanic. One I was using for years in LaCrescenta started to recommend things I knew didn’t have to be done… And this morning I went to another place just for a quick oil change. Ended up getting a list of things I should do for hundreds of dollars. Drove right to Alex’s and gave them the print out. Alex found out that one item was improperly diagnosed (wouldn’t have fixed the problem) and although some work did need to be done, his estimate $ 350 less. So nice to not play games, but totally trust someone’s ethics, honesty and skills. Thank you Alex and thank you Unilocal.

My car was having intermittent problems starting — very nerve wracking — who wants to be far from home when it refuses to start! I read the reviews from several repairs shops in my area and called another shop — twice. They never called back, so I picked the next one and called Alex’s. Martha answered right away, my car was there the next day and all it needed was a tune-​up. Amazing! They could have told me anything from starter problems to who knows what! They did the work quickly and at a fair price and I was back on the road! I am so happy to find a local repair shop I can trust.

I’ve been looking a long time for a shop that can look at the problem, know exactly what is needed to solve the issue, and deliver at super reasonable and fair prices at such high quality workmanship.
Management is beyond kind and informative of the situation, explaining with detail what will be performed on the car, and why. I left their shop beyond satisfied and with a sense of security knowing my vehicle is safe for driving.

My family has been taking our cars to this location for 25 years. For a few years It was Nolan’s, then Nolan and Alex and finally just Alex.
I have referred so many people to Alex because he is fair and honest. Alex has looked at my car and said, «it’s fine. You don’t need to fix anything.» Many mechanics would have «found» a problem but he has always been honest with me. When something needs to be repaired, he has done a good job and charges a very competitive price — I know this because I have occasionally gotten estimates from other mechanics, because a well-​meaning friend insisted, «You have to try my guy. He’s the best!» Not so, because Alex’s prices are usually better and his work is ALWAYS solid.
We’ve been through several cars in our family. Before we buy a used car we take it to Alex. Without his blessing, it’s no deal.
After 25 years, folks, I can say with great certainty and sincerity that MY guy truly IS the best. You can trust your car with Alex!
