Be very careful when purchasing several pieces at once, they managed to bungle the fabric on two of the chairs –completely incorrect fabric. So odd because i followed the advice of the designer who insisted on the fabric and finally i got her vision and then somehow the wrong fabric gets entered into the books. Luckily they have you sign off on fabric pictures so they will replace the chairs –but after having waiting for 3 months, its frustrating to have to wait a few more for the correct chairs. Also, I agree with others that the sales people can be pushy, the person i worked with was very knowledgeable but she became quite frustrated when i did not just accept her idea —she only gave one design idea. My purchase was in the 20k plus range.

We had a wonderful and fun experience at Ethan Allen. We needed a variety of furniture for our new home. The design team was helpful, well educated about fabrics and the thousands of options available. In addition to the staff the furniture is of high quality and well worth the investment, especially as compared to other choices.

The Good, The Bad, and The Beautiful!
The Good: David S. was a great salesperson who helped us picked out some wonderful counter stools for our vacation home. The pricing was very much a fair price, and we feel like we got an excellent value. When the shipment arrived late, our Salesperson and his Manager personally delivered the items to us to make sure they arrived on time. Talk about caring about the customer! Thank you!
The Bad: Status updates about the delivery of our furniture, and the way they have some administrative people in a remote warehouse handle these inquiries was less than professional, inconsistent, and frustrating. I felt like at times we were being pawned off onto some low end clerical staff who didn’t care about our situation. Product arrived into the warehouse a bit late, but I don’t think that was their fault.
The Beautiful: The fabric choices and finish options were PERFECT for our contemporary situation, and the product quality was better than we hoped. I grew up in the furniture trade, so I know what to look for in terms of construction quality, and these stools measure up to ones costing 50% more from the big name retailers. We are very happy.
Advice: Add extra lead time to their delivery estimates — items from them might take an extra few weeks beyond what they quote.

We were hoping to enjoy our purchasing experience from Ethan Allen but we cannot in good conscience recommend this store. We went into the store intending to purchase just a couch for our living room. After a presentation by two of their «designers» we ended up spending over 20k on furniture, wall art, and two rugs. While the furniture pieces are of nice quality and stylish, their rugs are way overpriced and shabby.
We felt like the designers were trying to sell us as many pieces that they could rather than selecting items that truly fit our needs. One of the designers came to our home to assess our needs. We were explicitly clear that we were concerned about purchasing rugs because of our new cat. During the presentation, the designers presented a swatch of rug, stating that because the weave is «very tight the material will be very resistant to cat claws». Unfortunately we chose to trust her opinion and purchased this $ 1800 rug. Within 12 hours of laying the rug down, there were multiple runs and snags all over the rug. The weave in fact was loose and very delicate. Our cheap rugs from Target as well as another similarly priced rug from a different store had better wear than this overpriced piece of garbage. We called them immediately, left messages, and emailed the designer. No response. I kept calling back and finally spoke with the designer who told me to spray my cat with a water bottle to discourage scratching. That technique did not work and we did not feel it was kind to treat our cat this way.
Finally we got a hold of the manager who pretended to empathize. She refused to let us exchange the rug but gave us a minuscule 16% discount on the rug that we would immediately need to replace and offered a 10% discount on future purchases. We were willing to purchase a different, more cat resistant, & even more expensive rug in exchange for our easily– damaged rug but there was no budging. After having spent over 20k at this store you would think their customer service would be better. They’d rather lose our business and that of any of our friends rather than admitting that their «expert» designers had mislead us. I am hugely disappointed. We won’t be back.

I purchase my furniture in October of last year and still did not receive it. It has been 5 months and I am told it will take another month and a half. This is ridiculous.

I give it four stars, but I didn’t feel «great» about my visit. I make a decent living, but I feel like I need a solid $ 20K added onto my base salary to truly feel comfortable shopping here. So that’s it upfront. I can’t give it five stars, and I get a little unsettled in the store, mainly because everything is so darn expensive. You really have to push yourself to part with that much money.
All that aside, I do like the store; I like the selection even better. The first thing you’ll notice is that they take a different approach to presentation than your more traditional furniture stores. They have many interior walls that essentially create an array of rooms throughout the store. To «display» their products, they basically furnish all the rooms. Neat concept, and it gives you a good idea of how things would tie together. If you’re like me, who has no eye for colors or design, it also gives you good decorating ideas to steal and parrot in your own home.
I also like that most things are vastly customizable. Like a table, but it just looks a little too dark? That’s fine because it probably comes in a handful of other finishes. Like the look of a couch, but it feels a little firmer than you’d like? They have a couch with a dozen different cushion types on it so that you can test and select the type that fits you. Like a dinner chair, but the upholstery doesn’t match your room? There’s a design studio that has hundreds of colors and patterns to choose from. This really helps when you’re looking to put your room together the way that you want it. You don’t have to compromise and settle for what works vs what you really would like.
I didn’t experience the same service issues that the other reviews mentioned. Our sales girl was nice and gave us our space. She was near when we needed her and answered all our questions. She didn’t hover or interject when we didn’t ask her to.
The price is pretty high, and it prevents us from buying quite as much as we’d like, but you do pay for what you get. If you want quality furniture, the way that you want it, then you have to pay a little more. Have to grow up and graduate from Ikea at some point in time.

Arghh talk about stalker salespeople. I liked the receptionist better than the sales hag. Did not listen to my style– told her one table was too light in color for her to show me another even lighter, wanted an oval or a circle showed me a square… Then after stating I would look on my own I am trying to sneak out and I see the cutest lawn chair… ooh I didn’t know you had outdoor stuff, I say to the receptionist she gives me a catalog and we are chatting when the hag interrupts, and takes over the conversation as well as rudely snatching the catalog out of my hands! I mean wtf!!! Oi vey I snatch back and told her she was rude and I would never need her help ever and walked out…

Great furniture.
There I said it. On that note, I purchased 2 sets of matresses from Ethan Allen a month ago. They told me that I would receive my mattresses 2 – 3 weeks after the purchase date. I’m only writting this because I finally got fed up today and gave them a call only to find out that one of my Mattresses has been there for around 3 weeks and the other one was to be delivered to their warehouse next month…
Aside from being livid at being deceived and for a store that charges as much as they do, I would expect the courtesy of at least a phone call to let me know that my order was going to be a month late. I’ve been sleeping on my couch anxiously waiting for my new mattress and suffering from a growing neck pain. Totally unacceptable. Long story short, they are deliving my new mattress (fingers crossed) whenever their delivery department gives me a call so we can set up a time and they will deliver the 2^nd mattress at no cost. yay…
Attentive sales staff that have titles like «Designer» who really don’t have any more qualifications than any other retail sales person. Can’t say I really like the people that typically work in higher end retail places. They usually come off to me as if they’re a bit snooty. They’re really more along the lines of people stuck on themselves and feel some sort of daily affirmation because they wear a certain brand of clothes or sell «Ethan Allen» furniture. I could care less. I’m bottom line all about the comfort factor. So in the future, don’t tell your customers something and deliver something else. It tends to piss them off. I’ll say it again, Great furniture! Bad service so far until I am proven wrong.
