History

Established in 2004.

Started part time in 1984 as Karen Kan Do, my secretarial service was frequently perceived as something else early on. Must have been because as a single mother, I would meet a variety of people at entertainment venues. I was passing out business cards with the company name, my name and phone number, but no indication as to what Karen could do. Got some interesting phone calls! And soon made sure Secretarial Services was prominently displayed on new cards.

This example of how not to advertise your business is one I pass on to beginning entrepreneurs. You should try to think of all the ways your business can be perceived when you name it, create your logo, and start marketing.

Business Owner

I started a secretarial service as a single mother in 1984, while working a full time job. I had good response, but the income ebbed and flowed, so I had to stay employed to support myself and my son.

Over the years, I learned a lot from those employee jobs while working at Executive levels, including banking, oil and gas, mining, and petroleum engineering. Eventually I started working with attorneys in early 2000, and especially enjoy estate planning and real estate law.

Writing and researching come easy to me, and both were used to publish monthly articles in a regional magazine. Helping people develop their resumes is fulfilling, and creating content to sell products or services gives me joy.

Remarried in 1986 to my very supportive husband, I’ve been self-employed full time since 2004, when I created The KanDo Organization LLC, and my grown son runs his own business.
