Tulsa Zoo

Terrible. We purchased unlimited train rides for the entire family. There was a very long line, we had to stand there like an hour or so, which was not a problem. What happened was that given that a lot of people had these unlimited ride tickets too, so when the train got to the station a lot of people would stay in the train, delaying more people to get there. When I thought it was going to be our turn, the train came and only 5 people got out (50 people train or so). Of course I wasn’t to excited about it, but I knew that our turn would eventually come and my daughters would enjoy the train ride like everybody else, and if you bought the unlimited ride ticket it was fair for you to stay there for as long as you wanted. We finally got in the train, we did one turn, when we got back to the station almost everybody got out (there was only us and 5 more people or so left who wanted to do another turn), but despite this the driver asked for everybody to get out so they can get people on the train faster! So after waiting all this time they forced us out even though we had unlimited rides??? Even though we waited for all the people with unlimited rides to do as many turns as they wanted? Why do you offer things to your costumes that you are not willing to honor? Terrible!

We have been to many zoos, including the Fort Worth zoo in Texas — but the Tulsa Zoo is by far our favorite! No lines, no fuss, it is really just a personalized Zoo experience. We sat with the monkeys (my sons favorite) for 20 minutes — just us! I’ve never seen a zoo have happier animals either. They were all awake and interactive. It was such a wonderful experience and to top it all of, the tickets were only $ 10 each. We will be back! And tell anyone that will listen how much we love the Tulsa zoo!

I’ve always partially enjoyed the zoo. The past few years, I’ve enjoyed it more, due to friends being with me. I do believe they’ve added quite a bunch more, than what they had when I was a kid. There should be something new either in 2015 or 2016 and I am looking forward to it. The only part that I wasn’t too keen on, was their care of their trains and the cleanliness was a small issue as well.

Not a huge fan of the zoo or animals but I do like this location okay. The layout is pretty easy and you can get to everything quick. If you go you need to ride the train all the way around to see the whole park. The food is reasonably priced for a theme park. If you have kids I guess it a necessary evil.

Such a disappointment. Not as good as it was years ago… many species missing. They have lost many animals over the years to illness and not taking care of them with proper habitats. The ostrich and polar bear are among the animals lost to this zoo. It’s a sad zoo. Many animals are alone and they never seem happy. They also seem to house a vast majority of birds. I’m assuming because they are cheap to feed. So disappointing and sad. We will not be coming back soon. but will return for hallowzooween annually.

This has been my third visit to this Zoo and still have never been impressed. Although I am not a Zoo connoisseur by any means, this place ranks at the bottom of the Zoo list compared to different states I have been to. First of all, the animal habitat areas did not seem well maintained. Horrible smells inside the the aquatics and reptile observatories. Yes I know it’s a Zoo and animals are going to smell, but this was lack of maintenance like stagnant water and poorly drained wastewater lines. It’s clearly obvious that fresh water is not being cycled through as it should. The water is so murky you can’t see half of the animals as in the penguin exhibit. As for the rest of the Zoo, there is more walking to get to nothing than anywhere I can remember. Very spread out with not much to see. The only reason I wouldn’t give this place one star is because the two giraffes, two lions, two grizzly bears and the two eagles were interesting. The trash was kept up by the employees. To sum it up, not much to see here. There are more animals in habitats than the creatures of habitat walking around this place that paid admission, so it’s easy to park and not overcrowded.

I love the zoo! It reminds me of summer. I come every year, and it seems to get worse and worse. Each year, more animals are missing, such has the bear which died off, or my favorite animal the koala is gone. Also, more cool art is missing; such as the mammoth mechanical attraction located near the elephants is now gone, or the Indian manikins located in the small igloo cave thing are now gone as well. But it is still fun. I normally stay all day, which is enough time to see everything. For an adult, tickets are $ 8. Parking is paid before you enter the park, which may be $ 1 – 5. I can’t remember. They have a gift shop, a petting zoo, food areas, and an event center. Overall this place is not too shabby.
Oh! And before I forget. I recommend visiting the indoor rainforest. It is my favorite place in the zoo. They have loose animals, such as tropical birds, and frogs jumping around. Really cool statues to take pictures with!

While it might not stand up against the zoos of bigger cities, the tulsa zoo is a fun experience for the whole family. My family has a yearly membership so we go whenever the mood strikes us and are also invited to the occasional special event at no additional cost.

I don’t know what to say anymore. See, I’d been asked by a group of people who weren’t from Tulsa what cool things we had. Eventually, the zoo came up. Having seen the San Diego Zoo, the Dallas Zoo, a zoo in Atlanta and zoos in Berlin, Prague, and Austria… I had to speak up and say… «the Tulsa Zoo can really hang with the best of those.»
Before long, they were clamoring for a day at the zoo. So we went and a nice warm afternoon. What we found was quite the underwhelming presentation. This was not the zoo I fondly remembered as charming as a child and then still amazing when I was a college student.
We started with the arctic exhibit which is dashed by an air of gloom: the star polar bear met an unfortunate end several years ago. Passing the empty enclosure, you’ll find yourself walking down long empty areas where I assume more things will eventually show up. Moving along and into more arid areas, we found a lot of the animals to be behaving strangely. Perhaps this is a side-​effect of growing up a little bit, but that stretch (the porcupines especially) just felt sad and depressing.
The kangaroos were adorable, if not tired. The sea lion area was pretty fascinating. And the grizzly bears were joyfully fighting one another on this particular day.
The giraffes and rhinos were closed: improvements coming soon. The elephants were a sight, though I can’t recall if the Tulsa zoo ever had any African elephants.
The entire zoo felt cleaner and less stinky than I ever remember it being… but there was also a lot– a LOT– missing.

The Tulsa Zoo is a pretty special place. I have been coming to this Zoo since I was born. I have also been to many other Zoos around the country and I have to say that we are fortunate to have such a nice Zoo. With the weather being so great this afternoon, we decided to get out of the house and spend a nostalgia filled day here.
The last time I went to the Tulsa Zoo was probably 5 or so years ago. Quite a bit has changed since I was last here, but much is still the same. The cost of admission is very reasonable with an adult ticket being $ 10.00.
The Zoo and surrounding park is very clean. Paved walking paths will lead you to every exhibit. There is a huge variety of animals and exhibits to see, including many exotic and endangered animals you might not think would be housed in Tulsa.
Since last time I visited, the enclosures for the Seals and Rhino have been totally redone, and several others are under construction. There is a train that loops around the Zoo giving a quick tour which can be ridden for a small extra fee. My nephew found this to be the highlight of the entire day and would have been happy to spend hours riding the train.
We had lunch at one of the restaurants inside the Zoo since we didn’t think ahead and pack a picnic. The food was actually very reasonably priced at around $ 8.00 (ish) for a Cheeseburger and Fries. The food was cooked to order and was surprisingly good. We ate at a picnic table while Geese and Squirrels battled for the scraps we threw to them.
It was a little sad to walk past the Polar Bear enclosure, which is now housing a Grizzly Bear. That was always one of my favorite animals to see, but our Polar Bear passed away not so long ago. Also, the ‘Living Museums’ that are a large portion of the Zoo seem to be under some remodeling or restructuring because there were areas that felt very empty. It was probably only something that someone who has been to the Zoo countless times would notice, but it still seemed a little off.
The Tulsa Zoo is a great place to visit if you have never done so. If you were in a rush, you could see most of the highlights in a couple of hours, but if you really wanted to take your time, you could spend all day here and still not see everything.

I love the Tulsa zoo. It has many indoor attractions so hot or rainy days are even good. They have polar bear days– a discount when it’s cold outside.
The best feature is a child drop off and pick up area. There is a cop on duty so folks who do custodial transfer can have a fun safe place to swap kids.
You have to exit the zoo trough a gift shop so that’s sometime stressful with tired cranky kids.
The giant globe near the front of the zoo is really fun too. The little train and merry go round are classic zoo attractions along with all the animals of course.

During my grade and middle school years, my family has always spent weekends in Tulsa for shopping and the zoo. We had a zoo membership for years and so I should remember it now visiting here a few days ago. Well, the only things I remembered were the WILD LIFE TREK exhibits. Also, I feel cheated since the polar bears no longer are at the zoo. It has been replaced with a duplicate grizzly bear exhibit. Oh well, polar bears are expensive probably to maintain. I think the OKC zoo is better but hey, it’s Tulsa and it was our childhood memories. As a kid, I always had fond memories and this Tulsa zoo has quite a good collection of large animals– chimps, penguins, lions, tigers, etc.

Spent most of a Monday here. It was wonderful. Admission price wasn’t terrible. Clean bathrooms that were maintained. Lots of animals very visible and active. Paths were well marked and easy to follow which was a bonus since they don’t give paper maps. Food was expensive but not anymore than expected and appeared to be high quality. (We didn’t actually eat just got drinks). Loved the recycling bins everywhere. Really a nice place. If I lived closer I would go every couple weekends. Great time! Not any kind of crowds as we were there off season. An exhibit was in process of being shut down and they let us go through for free. There were still signs that it would have been $ 4 per person. Really family friendly. Educational and entertaining.

Love this zoo, we get in half price with our Dickerson park pass every year. My son has an amazing time every time we are here. Wish we would have packed a lunch and drinks because prices were steep. The jerassic park exhibit should have been included in on the admission prices.

This zoo was alot of fun. I have been to many zoos in the Boston area… Franklin park, Southwick, roger Williams, stone zoo etc
This one competes well with them. The down part here is the heat and humidity. .many attractions were inside… yet smelly but that is expected.
The dinosaurs exhibits were great and we totally enjoyed them. the seals and penguin were lazy and were probably waiting for Mr popper to swing by… the giraffes and rhinos were a treat

The low price was a plus for sure… we will return again!

It’s been a few years since I’ve been to the Tulsa Zoo and the last few times were as a teacher, so I didn’t truly get to appreciate all there was to offer. My sister’s company is a zoo sponsor, so she was able to get tickets to an after hours event. It was nice to be able to explore the zoo with less people than usual.
First, a review of the event-​The zoo did a really good job with this event. There were a lot of staff available to make sure everyone stayed engaged. We were able to walk around and get good information about the animals. My niece was even able to feed a giraffe, which was probably the highlight of the night. We were fed a hamburger dinner, which was really well presented with a lot of topping options, and dessert was a smores bar. The two hours flew by and we had so much fun!
Secondly-​the zoo itself. I love the Tulsa Zoo. It is nicely laid out and you can get a good view of the animals. I’ll be glad when some of the construction is done and animals are in their new habitats. There were also a few water areas that seemed really gross and had a smell. Other than that, everything was great!

We had a couples day at the zoo today and had a wonderful time! Other than there being quite a bit of construction (not always a bad thing), the zoo is in terrific shape and being taken care of very well! They have changed a few things up over the years, but it is overall for the better as they are bringing in big crowds more often now. We were very sad they got rid of the wolves, cheetah, and some of the other awesome animals but it’s all good. I plan on going a few times this summer so I will update my review as the construction progresses!

Had so much fun at the Tulsa Zoo. They do give you a vet discount… dollar off per person which is great! You can take a picnic in and be able to have a nice picnic wherever you like… No glass, beer… and be sure to recycle!
All the animals were out and enjoying the weather as I & my fiancé were as well. The upkeep is well maintained. all animals seemed healthy and happy. I have no negative remarks, Thanks to the staff for making it enjoyable for all us visitors and for showing love to all the animals.

I love zoos. I really do. Good thing Tulsa has a good one!
I recently went to the zoo (go on a weekday if you want to roam without hoards of people!!) after not having been in a while (maybe a couple of years?!). It was nice to see the renovations and updates to exhibits (I’m pretty sure the old displays were from the 80s…). However, it seemed like they took a lot of the content away (like the old polar bear building… where did the creepy eskimos go?!), which leaves a lot of empty space. Renovations are still underway, so the elephant building was closed when I went (but you can still see the actual elephants if they’re outside).
I really like the diversity of animals and the layout of the zoo. There’s a decent amount to see (plan for at least half a day!!), but the displays aren’t spread out so far apart that it feels like you’re walking forever. The zoo staff is also really nice! We spent a good half an hour talking to Jarel in the petting zoo (for really, really interesting facts about animals, go to him!).

The Tulsa Zoo has some great exhibits, learning tools, and landscaping. The zookeeper chats that occur around the zoo daily are a great chance for kids to learn about animals up close and personal.
The zoo continually improves, grows, and expands. We don’t get to go often and we see new things every time.
They have an incredible rainforest exhibit that I was more impressed with than the San Diego Zoo version. We always look forward to getting back to this one!
