Established in 1985.

Southgate Ace Hardware is a local, family owned business in the heart of Tumwater’s historic Southgate Shopping Center. Ace Hardware stores are independently owned and operated, that is why each one is unique.

Very friendly and helpful staff. I was pleasantly surprised when I stopped in last week. I made a small purchase and was given a carry out, even though I didn’t ask for it. They had what I needed and the price was very good. I’m going to be a repeat customer.

This place has the rudest staff of any hardware store in Olympia. They incorrectly filled a propane tank for me, which I discovered later across town because it started sputtering and the car was filled with the smell of propane. It was a brand new tank. I had to drive it back across town with the windows open and my young son in the car. When I returned to Ace Hardware they refused to do anything about it. I felt like in a way I should have known better because I had shopped there before and had never had a good experience, but at least this was the last bad experience I will have there. Fortunately Home Depot down the road bled the tank for me, so even though I was out the propane money I was at least able to remedy the scary situation.

They have just about everything you need in hardware… except the lumber.
I was pleased when I discovered they had 1″ washers. The Home Depot or any other mega depot do not sell that size. Ace had it and had plenty.
The store is full but clean, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Some of the older guys really know their stuff and seem happy to help.
They have great quality tools and reasonable prices, paint, housewares, and gardening items. Plenty of fasteners and general hardware, plus other nic-​nacs and toys.
It’s a good store in a good location.

Everytime I have been here the staff is super knowledgable (unlike the mega chains), and make sure that you get the best possible solution. One time they even disuaded me from buying a new propane tank because I didn’t need it because they have the proper hook up for the older styles! (another store told me I «had» to buy a new one) They save me money and make sure I get what I need to do the job right. They have quality customer service, the kind you rarely see any more. I actually live in Lacey, but I make the trek to Tumwater because of their honesty, reliability, and excellent service.
