California State University Stanislaus

I graduated from Stan State in 2013 with my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I love this university! The professors and staff here have been nothing but nice and helpful. My only complaint is the price of the parking permit, it’s too much! Overall I had a good experience here and definitely will be attending here for my masters degree.

DO NOT go here if you want to graduate in 4 years or Under. They set a cap on the number of classes you can test out through CLEP and at the same time there is NOT enough classes for everybody.
Famous for people taking up to 6 years to graduate.

So I came here for my freshmen year of college and had way too much fun joining a fraternity and partying it up. I know imagine partying in a sleepy town like Turlock right? Well the only way to get social at this school is to join a fraternity or sorority (for girls). That would be my advice for people wanting to to come to this school. I am back for graduate school for social work and I have to say the department is ok nothing special about it. I ended up finishing my BA at San Francisco State which turns out to be my fourth college I have attended. The others were Santa Rosa JC, Biola University, and CSU Stanislaus. Like another review mentioned already if you want a great student life experience with college football or any other big time sports scene DO NOT GO HERE! Out of high school I could of gone to Fresno State and I seriously regret it! I love college football and going to schools without it has made my college experience suck big time!

Coming out of high school, I never, ever thought I would end up attending lowly CSU Stanislaus, A.K.A. «Turkey Tech.»
I am about to finish my English degree here, and I have to say: my experience at Stanislaus has been pretty fantastic. It may be humble; it may have been hit hard by the financial crisis and rather shady administrative choices; it may not even have a French program anymore (a fact that still has me furrowing my brow in frustration); but CSU Stanislaus has been very good to me.
The English department, for one, is chock-​full of outstanding professors who have all gotten top-​notch educations and have published quite a bit; I have learned a lot from my classes on Shakespeare, 20^th Century British Novelists, Milton, etc.
Secondly, I defy you to find a college radio station around the state that is COMPLETELY student-​produced and has such a diverse mix of music that you don’t normally hear on mainstream radio. (For those of you wondering, 91.9 KCSS is the name, and playing the Valley’s True Alternative is the game!) I work at KCSS as a broadcaster and as one of the music directors, and through this invigorating, educational experience I have realized that I want to pursue radio after I graduate.
Thirdly, through both the English department and working at the campus radio station, I have made friends. Fun, happy, intellectually stimulating, on-​my-​wavelength, good friends. This is a feat I was not fortunate enough to have accomplished in my K-​12 years or in my one lonely semester at Saint Mary’s College of California (a private school that is ridiculously expensive, though academically comparable to anything offered in the public realm).
All in all, despite my former prejudices, and despite some of the more unsavory aspects of the campus-​such as the fact that, yes, it’s located in the cultural armpit of California and that, yes, some of the departments (*cough,* Foreign Languages! *cough) are seriously lacking-​I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at CSU Stanislaus and am proud to have done so.

10. You love, love, love college football!
9. You don’t want to have to explain where Turlock is, every time you tell someone where you go to school.
8. You don’t like being chased by blood thirsty geese on your way to class.
7. You want a variety of unique and awesome bars, restaurants and shopping near your school.
6. You want to live in a town with lots of job and internship opportunities.
5. You have terrible allergies and would like to continue to breath.
4. You want your college campus to have some character.
3. You want a degree from a school that will garner you respect and favor.
2. You want a memorable college experience to go with your degree.
1. You grew up in the valley! Get out!
Seriously though, This is the 4^th college I’ve been a student at, and the education they provide is on par with others in the CSU system. They even have above average MBA and nursing programs. But the location sucks! This has to be one of the worst places to go to school in California. The faculty (most of them) are friendly, caring, and good at what they do. The schools administration however, make more bad choices than Brittany Spears, and make the students pay for their idiocy. The staff in the cashiers office is downright rude, and the counciling staff is in need of training. If you are considering enrolling at CSU Stan., it should be your absolute last choice!
Consider these schools instead. They are in a reasonable proximity to the central valley but have much more to offer for about the same money…
Sacramento State
Chico State
Fresno State
San Francisco State
Sonoma State

If you wish to get an idea of what CSU Stanislaus or any other university is like, then a website like Unilocal will not help you. As the previous reviews will tell you, the experience of a college will vary from person to person. What one would consider a waste of time another would consider a life-​changing event in their life, and no opinion of mine or anyone else will really give you an idea of what CSU Stanislaus is like for you.
There are many people in the area who have the mindset of «OH MY GOD I HAVE TO GET AWAY FROM HERE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE ITS JUST TERRIBLE LIVING HERE BLAH BLAH BLAH» and that’s fine for some, but believe it or not there are actually people who enjoy going to school in Turlock. And while I cannot defend the other departments in the school, I can say that the College of the Arts that CSU Stanislaus has an amazing faculty and wonderful facilities. The campus itself is quite beautiful, especially in the fall, and the apartment-​style dorms are indisputably some of the best in the entire state, CSU, UC, or otherwise.
But don’t take my word for it, because I can only give you my opinion based on my experiences. If you really want to see what the campus is like, you’ll have to find out for yourself.

The 4 years I went to this place I didn’t drink one drop of alcohol or put my penis in one vagina. Serious.
