This has turned into a terrible experience. They advertised on Facebook that they were able to help with student loan forgiveness for first responders. The person I talked to lied to me about the service they offer saying that I could get my loan consolidated to a 0% interest loan. It sounded to good to be true but she assured me several times that it is correct. Well $ 240 in processing fees later I found the consolidated my loan to another lender with the exact same interest rate that I already had. I was told the person I spoke to was «new» and explained the program incorrectly to me. They have refused to refund me and I am now stuck dealing with a new lender. IT IS A COMPLETE SCAM

Where do I start? Signed up with them about three years ago in (false) hopes that they could follow through with helping me pay off my med school student loans faster, but still at reasonable monthly payments. All they did was decrease the payment terms from 25 – 30 years to 12 years and adjusted the payments up. Every year, I had to go back and tell them to adjust the terms to make my monthly payments reasonable. All the while, they charge you $ 39/​month «maintenance» fee for their once a year review and adjustment work, which I had to ask to be corrected anyways.
What I learned after speaking to Sallie Mae and my other student loan provider is that I could have directly worked with the student loan agency and been on the same payment plan and completely bypassed NSLS and the $ 39/​month «maintenance» fee, which over the course of a 10 – 20 year loan repayment plan saves you $ 4500 – 9500 of your money.
Staff is unresponsive. The two people who helped establish my payment plan originally left the company and I was not informed in writing or any other way, until I had to call them to ask for my payment plan to be readjusted and realized that their numbers were disconnected.
I eventually decided to cancel my arrangement with NSLS after speaking to a couple of my friends. NSLS proceeded to charge me an extra $ 39 maintenance fee for the following month because I canceled on the 16^th and not the 15^th of the month, which apparently is their cut off point. Instead of doing the right thing and prorating the «maintenance» fee and refunding my money, they said they wouldn’t…and that is after I had called 6 times over the course of 7 weeks and spoken to 5 different people who said they would take care of the issue right away and refund my money. The fact that I had to call 6 times to get a refund that I was told I would get but never did is ridiculous and tells you something about their customer services.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to starve because I didn’t get the refund. It’s not about the money, it’s about the principle. I’m glad I canceled my plan and won’t be giving this company another cent and saving myself thousands of dollars over the course of my loan. Do yourself a favor, call your primary student loan company and discuss how to adjust your loans with one of their specialists to achieve your desired monthly payments. With a little discipline and additional payments a few times a year on top of your monthly payments, you can achieve repayment the same way this company claims to help you do. Take the $ 4500 – 9000 you’d be saving by not paying this company their monthly «maintenance» fee and put that toward the principle of your student loan instead.
Learned from my mistake, trying to prevent others from making a similar one. If I could give zero stars I would.
