Island Hoppers

This business was simply the worst experience I have ever had. The customer service was a joke at best. They did not answer the phone and actually provided a disconnected number on the contract. The staff there threatened me when I asked for a signed copy of the contract. The chord the company gave us to charge the vehicle did not work and almost sparked a fire in our beach house. The staff there may be the poster child for stupidity, rudeness, and not to mention their hygiene. I would gone on but I have nothing good to say. I am so mad about how my vacation was spoiled over the stupidity of this transaction that I am hoping to rent a billboard to make sure no one else suffers the issues I have been through the last week. I only added a star because I had to… DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY

It was a spontaneous decision to rent a Golfcart for half a day. The employee was absolutely no help in determining what rate would be the best for us, and I had to make several scenario inquiries (Hourly, is there a half day option, 24 hour etc). Once I figured out which rate would suit my needs best and would be the cheapest option (Wish I had read up on here before because the rate I paid was more than the advertised rate on their website), I was ready to go. Not so fast, the employee, knowing I was in a hurry definitely took his time.
The cart performed great, we did have a little bit of a charging issue, which concerned me, but in the end I did not run out of «juice». At the end of my time, I had left the charging cord with the camper but was ready to return the cart and had planned to keep my plans of going out to eat etc and since I had rented the cart for 24 hours (which included the cord) I figured as long as the cord was back the next morning, everything would be good. Wrong. I tried to return the key to the employee and he informed me that if I returned the cart, the cord had to be returned within 30 minutes or he would charge me $ 75 for the cord. He would not hear me out and stood by his statement. So he did not receive the key back and later on I returned the cord and threw the key into the dropbox. It was no problem, my issue is the lack of customer service and friendliness.

The golf carts at Island Hoppers are a great way to get around and explore Tybee Island. There are plenty of carts, all well maintained and electric. A fully charged cart will get you 20 miles, which is plenty (we only went 10 miles). Make sure to get a price quote before you go, as the amount they stated over the phone was higher than rates we saw online. When we mentioned the prices we found online, they gave us that rate. You can rent by the hour, but if you show up by 4:30pm, they will charge you for two hours ($ 25 for a 4 seater) and let you keep it out all night. Really. They tell you to just bring the cart back whenever you want and drop the keys in the dropbox. We brought it back around 8pm even though the shop closes at 5:30pm.
I recommend driving your cart to the lighthouse, the beach, the pier, and the long pier. I’d deduct one star because of the seemingly shady pricing, but the shop is very accommodating with the cart returns.

They advertise the wrong price online and are aware of it. When i brought it to their attention, they lied and said the price they quoted in person includes tax. Still obercharging by $ 10 on the rental agreement then added tax to that amt. We still rented the gem car, then when we got in it, discovered it was filthy. The cup holders were full of cigarette butts and the car wasnt even washed off from the previous rental. The manager is rude and does not care. We spoke with one of the employees about these issues and he admitted he tells the manager of these issues all the time, and she doesnt even want to maintain the cars they rent out. This business screams greed from the moment you walk in the door. Go elsewhere!

Are you kidding me? Talk bout terrible service, Ripoff customer service is a zero!!! Do not waste your time. Drivers license, proof of insurance, proof of birth, proof of U.S. citizenship. I mean come on!!! All he can say is have a nice day!
He was a waste of time and way too high. $ 91 a day and we only would have for a few hours max. Owner was very unprofessional and not accommodating.
Find somewhere else to rent!!!

Rented 2each of the 4seater road ready golf carts for 24 hours. Cars worked great and are really peppy. Turn signals, horn, wiper, lights, 4 drink holders, seat belts, etc. The rate also includes island wide public parking pass.
You must be 21 with a valid drivers license and proof of car insurance.
Our car did have lots of fender cracks, scrapes and damage but they do not really acknowledge on any form that there is existing damage, so we took iphone pictures of all sides of the cart so we had a time stamped record of the condition.
We were given a very nice introduction to the proper use of the cart and how to charge it overnight. One cart charged quickly while the other did not, in our experience. Cart 13 was slow charging and car 12 charged fast. Car 12’s charging port falls out when you attempt to push the plug in so we had to find it by looking under the car and one person hold it while the other pushed the plug in. There is no way they did not know this was flopping around in there. All the fender housing parts of the car are plastic so it’s pretty flimsy. The overall car is large metal tubing and fairly stout and a smooth ride.
One bugaboo was that the storage compartment key did not work and we could not lock up our possessions. This was a bit of a bummer. The trunk compartment was very sandy and dirty, so they don’t really clean the carts up except for trash or sticky spills I guess.
It was fun and we felt the rate was pretty fair. Great island fun getting around and going to the beach. Had a blast riding the back roads and looking at all the cute beach cottages of Tybee Island.
Turning in the car was very informal. Here are the keys, ok, thank you, bye. There was no inspection or paperwork.

I’m sure their shuttle service is wonderful, but after waiting two hours for a pick up, we had to give up on them. We called an hour after our first call, and were told they had already come by. We gave our address again, and waited another 40 minutes, and after calling a second time, it became obvious that they were going to a different location altogether.
When calling, MAKE SURE TO BE VERY CLEAR OF YOUR LOCATION, or they will assume for you and go to the wrong place (twice).

Had a ghost tour scheduled for 730pm. It was a good tour… we enjoyed it. Right around sunset… very pleasant. Rob was our Ghost Host!

Used Island Hoppers last year while we went to Tybee over Memorial Day weekend. I love the idea of golf cart taxis and to think it’s less than $ 5 to ride across the island! A great, inexpensive, fun way to avoid a DUI! :) Looking forward to using them again this weekend on our annual girls beach weekend!

This was great relaxing entertainment after a very active day. We took a narrated tour in a multi-​seat golf cart. Our guide, Dina, told us about the history of the island, we looked at lots of neighborhoods, learned about the history of the fort, saw a few celebrity homes and homes that were involved in film. We learned about the tides, marshes and wildlife on the island. We learned what it is like to live on the island and the small-​town life there. Since the island is not over-​developed with chain lodging/​dining businesses, it’s an unusual experience. It was fun to hear about it from a local. They also serve as a taxi service on the island.
