Rick’s On the Square

This place is a joke. $ 10 cover per person in Tyler? For what? Spoiled beer from the bar that was over a year old. Then find out that instead of putting drinks on my tab that I had open, they charged $ 25 each drink my wife and I had on top of the drinks. Not sure what’s going on with that but I am sure that I won’t go back.

Food was okay. Many provocative images everywhere. Not appropriate, especially for kids.

Went there tonight for a seminar. Our meeting was upstairs & no elevator. There was 5 people that were debating whether to stay or leave. It was very dangerous for older/​crippled folks. We did finally climb the stairs. Unexcusesble!
The tea was so weak that the girl tried to add water to my glass. We were told that if we ordered the steak that it had to be cooked medium due to the size of the group. Never heard of such a ridiculous thing. One did come out medium rare as requested, but the other was medium to well. Could barely eat the latter. The vegetables potatoes with gravy on them & grilled squash/​mushroom/​onion) I looked at their prices on line. They are very OVER PRICED for what you get. The meal was good, but not out standing for sure. There was no salad & no bread. I noticed that one lady requested bread & it came about the time she finished her meal. We were not offered dessert or coffee at the end if the meal. Actually, we were never offered coffee. We have been to meetings at other, locations & salad & coffee & desert were always offered. The waiter was average, but good under the circumstances. I really can’t see a reason that we would want to return unless another meeting or friends that really wanted to go there. Very disappointed! Sad!

Not impressed at all. The décor and the ambiance is nice and it is a comfortable spot to come but the food was not anywhere where I had expected. I got the special, chicken pot pie. But, it wasn’t a pot pie. It was the insides of the pot pie on a plate, there was no flaky crust to indulge into or even any kind of breading. The taste of the pot pie insides weren’t even good. It was very similar to something you’d receive from a middle school cafeteria.

I always get the taco salad and it is amazing! Wait staff is great. Came to see Live 80’s band on a Saturday night. GREAT band! We sat on the patio (like we always do) and we immediately turned our table perpendicular to the stage so all 4 members at our table can see the band. Another large party of 12 beside us started doing the same and the manager put it to a stop. Very upset about that! I always turn my table that way because it is a logical lay out for the patio for everyone to see the band (which we paid $ 10 to see). In no way did it affect the aisle (it actually made the aisle better to walk down). Manager wasn’t bending and didn’t have a good reason for why we couldn’t. Not only was my party mad but the large party of 12 people were upset as well. I reminded him that the new place Jack Ryan’s is right next door. We turned our table back to how it was and moved to another table that was perpendicular to the stage.

Well I’m thinking let’s go to Rick’s place in Tyler, maybe not a good thought though. I love the wings but the medium Hawaiian burger medium came out well done. I sent it back and the second one cones out the same. I can tell you there is no chef here it’s all kid cooks. Will I be back due to service yes will I be back due to food no. Sub pat night for me and chef tonight sorry. See. Service was great though.

Fun atmosphere on the weekend with a live band. Disappointed in the food. Crawfish Beignets were overlooked and my Greek salad was over dressed. I would come back but not for the food.

Had a meeting there & forgot to check in. I came in from Austin. This place was easy to find. Service was outstanding & the wood grilled shrimp & veggies were delicious! If I ever get back that way, I’ll make it a point to visit Rick’s.

The luncheon prices were better than expected for a downtown restuarant. Service was good, and the restuarant seemed very well staffed. The chicken and dumplings/​house salad lunch-​special was excellent. However, the hamburgers were excessively salty. The side order of vegetables were inedible as they tasted like they had been sauteed in vinegar; plus, they were over cooked.
Given the décor, which was nice enough, and the prices, which were fair, our expectations on the food quality were not met.

My absolute favorite place to eat and drink in Tyler. The entire staff are always friendly. I’ve eaten many things on the menu (chicken fried steak, burger, roast beef sandwich, shrimp pasta, voodoo nachos, filet mignon) and they’ve all been incredible. My new favorite is Gigi’s fried chicken which is only available at lunchtime on Mondays. Best. Chicken. Ever. Make it a priority. Great entertainment on the weekends. You can dress casual or fancy and you’ll fit right in.

Whataburger would have been better and cheaper we ordered two burgers both had no flavor I asked for medium rare got well done it cost $ 35.00 for two Miller lites and two crummy tasteless burgers without a TIP! BTW the two bartenders need a EXLAX they looked bound up and acted like it too

First visit here but not the last. Sat at the bar for lunch and enjoyed one of the best sandwiches ever — the shaved rib eye sandwich. Courtney was a wonderful, friendly host & bartender. Downtown Tyler is only 15 minutes off I-​20, and Rick’s is located on the bricks around the courthouse square. It’s a great place to eat and wet your whistle.

Tried to eat dinner at Rick’s but after waiting 15 minutes and no wait staff ever showing up — I left.

Went here for private party.
The drinks and wine were good. The bread pudding … omg … some of the best I have EVER eaten!
For our meal, we had a fajita buffet … the meal wasn’t even 2^nd rate. Beef was tough and the chicken ?? neither had any taste. Very bland.
Maybe a place for drinks and music. eat someplace else.

The kind of a place of high caliber in New York City or Los Angeles right here in Tyler Texas… awesome.

If this is ‘the best place to eat in Tyler,’ no one should eat out. We went on a Tuesday night, and in spite of being one out of three tables, we still had slow service. The food was overpriced for the portion and no kids menu (we had all three kids with us). My husband had the chicken fried chicken and it had waaaaaay too much thyme in it. My chicken salad sandwich was too bland with no texture while the spicy chicken soup was too spicy to eat. Since there was no kid’s meal, we got my daughter a shrimp cocktail which had 3 ‘jumbo’ shrimp for 6.95; they were regular sized shrimp, yet there were still three of them. Great atmosphere, and although there was no live music, I can see how it would be a cool place to go to. But if you’re going for the food, don’t bother.

Just had drinks and snacks, server was smiling and quite efficient! Beer was cold, husband’s martini was yummy, oysters were fresh and we left happy!

Upon being seated at Rick’s and taking a first glance at the menu, it was clear that the voices in my head were going to go to battle.
It certainly didn’t help that one of my colleagues ordered the chef salad with fat free dressing.
So I toyed with the idea of getting soup, but only briefly. Then my eyes fell on the right hand side of the menu… Labeled «Down Home.» Um, yes please.
I ended up getting chicken fried steak, with mashed potatoes and mac&cheese. Everyone at the table had a grand old time mocking the little girl with the big appetite, and they were sure that I’d knock myself into a food coma.
And then it arrived. Oh. My. Goodness. Just the plate had my mouth watering. The CFS was as big as my head, perfectly crisply breaded. There was a giant scoop of mashed potatoes with gravy on top, and then some of the most delicious mac & cheese I’ve ever had. And then a big slice of garlic bread to just make the meal.
I wish I had taken an after picture of how I demolished that plate of food. It was definitely delicious, and a gem of a lunch spot in downtown Tyler. The service was fast and friendly too. After some initial confusion, where we didn’t seem to have been assigned a waitress when we were seated, the service was super friendly and fast. Drinks were always kept refilled, the food came out pretty fast, and all questions about the menu were answered.
I will be spending a lot of time in Tyler for work in the coming weeks, and with Rick’s being so close to the courthouse, I’m sure I’ll be back again!

This place has got it going on. In Tyler this is the best venue to frequent. They do a great job. The food is consistent and great. The bartenders can handle volume well. The entertainment is always a blast. I really enjoy Rick’s every time I go. My one and only complaint is the bouncer that was there one night. Stomping the floor messing with the ppl there. (Very cop like) Last few times I’ve been, there has been a different door guy. So maybe Rick already handled that.
If you are in the Tyler area this is a place to definitely check out. Great food, great entertainment, great service and pretty people.
However I don’t know what’s up with all the pending charges they apply to your bank that won’t fall off for at least a week pretty annoying…
