We won a gift certificate to the studio. I was worried that they might treat my wife differently than a typical customer. The smile on my wife’s face when she came home convinced me otherwise. The whole staff treated her great. Her stylist, Tiffany, listened to her requests and delivered a great cut. From the moment they brought her a cup of tea until the end when they helped her pick out cruelty free vegan products, the whole experience was top notch.

I’ve been a box color user for many, many years. I know it’s a sin, but some of us can’t afford salon color all the time. For some reason I can never find my color out here, at least not in the brand my hairstylist friend in AZ recommended. So I tried a new one, the week of a very fancy wedding that I was attending.
Holy hell was that a mistake. The new dye reacted to the worn dye that was left on my hair and the color was a MESS. Fancy wedding: 3 days away. I searched Unilocal for a color correction salon near my work and found Colour Bar. I was able to make an appointment the same day.
Tiffany was awesome. She spent the time to find the perfect color to get me back to and she didn’t scold me for using box color. She even gave me a «clean up» trim so my hair would look über healthy for the wedding!
This particular service is PRICEY, but really worth it. At Colour Bar you absolutely get what you pay for.

Sherry is my long time clipper, I think since 2007? Anyway, the place and people are awesome and it’s been a great experience. Highly recommended!

My stylist was very knowledgable, and I am not reviewing her… more the extremely overpriced services. I was charged $ 55 for a diffuse blow dry (which I thought was included with my $ 85 deep condition mind you) and not told until I was at the register. I am not cheap by any means but I do like to be made aware of what I’m paying for a service prior to getting an unpleasant surprise at check out. They may have a $ 10 coupon but trust me, they’ll up charge you somewhere else for it. I won’t be returning.

I just got home from seeing Tanya for ombré coloring and to fix my botched bangs recently done at another salon. Let me first say a few things before I get into my personal review. Yes, they are expensive, but in my opinion you have to pay for good service and you WILL get it here. It’s not about offering you a cup of coffee or tea. It’s far more than that. Tanya spent time with me during my consultation and told me what my realistic result would be. I can’t even tell you how many times I have sat down with a stylist who says, «sure! we can do that!» leaving the salon feeling disappointed with the results.
I walked in with multiple layers of semi-​permanent dye and existing highlights. I saw pictures on Pinterest of ombré highlights and really wasn’t sure if it was feasible. Honestly, Tanya produced results which were even better than the photos I saw on Pinterest. She took time to show me product that would work on my hair, and how to use it without being pushy about selling them.
I’m happy to say I finally found a stylist in the area who takes her time with her clients. You won’t just be a customer they are trying to get in and out. It’s quality customer service that is missing from so many businesses these days. Hope this helps!

This was my first visit to Colour Bar Studio. I’ve known about this place for quite some time but never thought of going there. I had an ombré that I was ready to get rid of, my hair would keep breaking and I knew I needed a good chop. I was refereed to Tiffany by my friend and as soon as I started talking to her I knew I was in great hands. I loved how they take a little survey about your hair and what accomplishments you want for your hair. I explained to her that I wanted to go all natural back to my roots and if able to I wanted subtle highlights, she went on showing me pictures of what kind of highlights I liked and asked what I didn’t like. Tiffany let me know that right now it would be better for me to do the all over roots color and hold off on the highlights seeing how I was looking to get healthy hair and get my length back. She did the Olapex treatment on my hair which did wonders! People at work are asking me if I did the Brazilian because my hair is so shinny and smooth. Like I previously stated I got a pretty big haircut, for me at least. I never thought I would love my hair medium/​short length like I do and I think the reason is because of how she cut it. I don’t know what kind of powers she has but Tiffany worked magic on my hair. I absolutely love my hair! The color, the length EVERYTHING about it I just love. & Tiffany I will be seeing you in a couple months =) Definitely not going anywhere else

I have been going to Colour Bar for years and have always had a great experience: friendly staff, super clean environment, and solid results.
Lizzie has been my stylist for as long as I can remember, and she has done both my cut and color. I really like her attention to detail and ability to change as I present new hairstyles. I would absolutely recommend her as an excellent hairstylist with a flair for good customer service!

Lizzie is amazing and talented. She gave me my first short haircut ever, like «pixie» short!!! She’s so creative with color too. You will not be disappointed, she definitely knows her stuff!!! Thanks Lizzie for taking care of my hair, you’re awesome!

Lizzie is the absolute best. I’m just a regular guy, and every time I get out of her chair I look great. She is a true professional and wickedly funny. The staff at the CB is great as well, always friendly and welcoming.

I love coming here. The staff are friendly and know me by name. We always have a fun time catching up. I’m always offered a beverage — which can be anything from water to an espresso drink to wine. It’s very clean and bright. It smells good and the music is great — very relaxing. My husband and I both see Tiffany and love her. She’s not afraid to get wild and crazy (like with my shockingly purple hair) or keep it traditional.
As with any salon, bring photos of what you want (a verbal description can be interpreted so many different ways) and speak up as things are going along. The price is quite high, but this is a high end salon in an expensive area. If you are price conscious — make sure they know how much you want to spend up front, and ask them to tell you when anything is going to be a supplemental charge.
Recent changes — you can now tip on credit cards! And there is a rewards program.

I still maintain that this was the worst hair experience of my life — not because of the work done on my hair, but because of the way I was treated as a human being. The lack of respect I was given makes my skin crawl and still nearly one year later I feel extremely hurt and uncomfortable by the way they dealt with me and their level of customer service.

Since discovering this hairdresser close to my work, I thought what a blessing until I met Katy. She is such a sweet girl knowing exactly what I want with minimal words making my experience so much more, especially after paying, which was so reasonable, after each time, (yes, third time now) surprising me as I didn’t expect such good service to be that reasonable… All this, well… I’m in love!

I have been getting my hair professionally highlighted since I was 16 years old — I have naturally dark, brown hair and now I am all over, light blonde. I moved to Northern VA about two years ago and had been searching for a hair stylist that I trust with my hair. I am one of the pickiest people you will meet — I hate any sight of yellow or brassy tones. That being said, I scheduled an appointment with Sherry and she did a great job the two times that I went to see her! She is also very personable and keeps the conversation going while you’re in her chair; she never makes you feel like you’re being rushed out of there — I HATE salons that do that. If I could rate Sherry alone it would be five stars, but I’m rating Colour Bar with three stars because they overcharge the crap out of clients. My first appointment (full foil, glaze, shampoo & blowdry) was $ 360 — and that did not include her tip people. The second time I went, I used a 15% off coupon that Sherry mailed me and I STILL paid $ 185 without tip — and that was just for a PARTIAL foil and glaze, no haircut or blowdry. Basically what I’m saying is, if you have a money tree in your backyard, you should definitely go see Sherry because she really is great. I have since switched to another salon and they didn’t charge me HALF of $ 360 to get the same thing done (full foil, glaze, shampoo, blowdry) and my hair looks just as great! As for customer service — I’m not sure about the other negative reviewers, but even though I had only been there twice, both times the girl at the front desk greeted me right away and I never had to wait to be taken back to the chair. They also offer drinks to clients and it’s a very cute set-​up inside!
**Update: People have been asking where I go now for my hair and I go to Bubbles in Herndon, VA. See Christa if you’re getting highlights, but everyone seems to do a great job & is really nice.

I, unfortunately, am one of those girls that is STILL looking for the perfect master Colorist. I came to the Colour Bar Studio after doing a google search in my area and then seeing all the great 5 star reviews on Unilocal.Everyone seems to rave about this place, and after a horrifying color experience with Encore Color Studio in Fairfax (also one of my reviews), I thought I’d give it a shot. I wish I had done more research.
The salon is in an easily accessible location near Tyson’s Corner, and it is super nice and quiet. They offer you a cappuccino and biscotti. Customer service is top notch and you definitely pay for that. Now, the bad. Although I do appreciate the effort of the spa atmosphere I wish that the actual color service was up to par because honestly, aren’t you going there to get outstanding color? It’s called «COLOUR» bar and one of the reasons I picked this place. I expected experienced top level colorist with knowledge behind the chemistry of hair and color and of course for that wow factor, that I did not get!
After a lengthy color correction consultation between Tania (the owner), Amanda (my stylist) and myself, I was sure my color would be fantastic. After about 3 hours in the chair my hair looked THE SAME. I am not sure what «correction» was done because I still had patches of hair where no color was applied to and highlights over top of color that did not blend with the new root color that she applied. I didn’t notice until I got home and showed my friends that in the back you could still see the strip of about 2 inches of new growth, with another strip of brown base color with no highlights to it. My friend even commented «Did she even touch the back»? I was so angry after having spent almost $ 400!!!
I wish I had the nerve to complain and ask for my money back but being that I am shy I sat there while she cut my hair (haircut and blow-​dry was done beautifully in all fairness) with a disappointed sad face. Amanda even took a picture and said «well, at least it looks beautiful in pictures». Unbelievable.
Overall, I would not recommend Colour Bar Studio for dark brunette (level 1b) trying to maintain or achieve blonde hair. This is a very difficult thing to do and requires someone with extensive Color (chemistry of color) knowledge which Amanda did not have. I did see some beautiful caramel highlights leave the salon in my 4 hours that I spent there, for those with darker hair I would give it a try if you want to drop almost a car payment on just OK color.

I decided to try this Hair Salon based on all of the 5 star reviews it has. Everyone seems to be quite enamored with it, so I thought I’d give it a shot. It’s in an easily accesibly location, and it is nice and quiet. Clean, friendly staff. Having said that, I’m really not sure why it gets the rave reviews that it does. Sure, the capuccino is nice. The atmosphere is fine. It’s easy to get an appointment. But really, aren’t you going there to get an outstanding cut/​color? To get the WOW factor that was mentioned?
My color was not bad, but it wasn’t great, either. Certainly no WOW factor. In fact, it was a little blah. I let the colorist decide what to do, based on the consulation, some pictures, and the discussion we had. The resulting color was a bit one-​dimensional, and didn’t completely blend – meaning the area around the roots didn’t blend with everything else, something even she commented on after all was done. (Uhh, think you oughta do something about that?) But, not too noticeable.
The cut was pretty good, and so was the resulting blow dry. I do think that sometimes one needs to let the color and cut ‘settle’ a bit to see, and I don’t think it’s worth going back to have anything redone. It looks fine, I just don’t think it looks $ 300 worth of fine. That’s right, $ 300 for color (no highlights or foils) and a cut.
The other reviewers weren’t kidding when they said it’s pricey. So Caveat Emptor! It has some good points, and maybe the colorist just had an off color day. I might go back next time, or I might go back to my old colorist. Maybe it’ll just depend on who is available.
But I wasn’t WOWed, and I’d like to be for that much money.

I came to Colour Bar off of the recommendation of a dear, dear friend. I wanted to start looking like a respectable member of society, someone who had graduated from a college and had obtained a job, instead of the homeless schlub that my friends and family reluctantly put up with.
My friend said Tiffany Watkins had worked miracles for him and that she could probably do the same for me. When I arrived, Tiffany didn’t judge my outward appearance. No. She saw the scared soul peaking out from behind the greasy tentacles of filth I had until then called, «hair.» She wanted to help a poor wretch like me. And help is exactly what she did.
Maria washed my hair in warm water while I relaxed in the massage chair at the foot of the sudsy head-​bowl. I didn’t think someone could care so much about the gross cranium of a strange man. I imagined this was how I must have felt when I was baptized as a young lad.
When my pains and sorrows had been thoroughly massaged away by her skilled hands, Maria escorted me to Tiffany’s station, and I became her charge. For the next 30 minutes or so, we chatted about our hopes, our DREAMS. Sure, she cut my hair. But that was only the start of it. She showed me how to care for hairs and how to make them perform feats I didn’t think even professional hair could pull off. I immediately scheduled my next appointment. No one else was to touch a single follicle on my head from then on out. For the next year, my hair was cared for like one of those fat emperors of days long past, being fed grapes as it lounged around on the top of my noggin.
Now, alas, I live in California. But, to this day, Tiffany still plays an important role in my style decisions. She really did give me a lot more confidence in my appearance, and I’ve recommended her services to all of my friends in NOVA.
Also sometimes Colour Bar has champagne. Getting a lil boozy during a lunchtime haircut? Can’t beat that.

I was really happy with my salon experience here. The location is inside what looks like an office building, so you don’t see a big sign from the street. It’s worth seeking out, though. (As an aside, it’s right near Nostos, a Greek restaurant I really want to try).
When I went it was fairly early on a Saturday and pretty quiet inside, which lent to a serene experience, as opposed to the loud and frenzied salons I’ve been to in the past. The interior is clean, sleek and modern and the vibe is very friendly and helpful. The receptionist, in particular, was very sweet. I get so turned off by aloof or indifferent treatment at salons so it was nice to be greeted warmly.
The shampoo experience was amazing. Two words: vibrating chairs! Why don’t all salons have them? I left the chair almost woozy with relaxation. A minor quibble: the shampoo lady pressed hard! Almost too hard. Some will probably love that intensity, but my head is sensitive so it hurt just a little during, but felt great after.
Lizzie was my stylist. I have been to her before. In fact, I moved away and when I returned I sought her out again because I loved how she did my hair. I also love her personality. She’s the type of stylist you want to go to just so you can hang out. Of course, I am a procrastinator when it comes to my hair and waited far too long to get my hair done, resulting in my trying to trim it and giving myself accidental «sister wife» hair. She didn’t have a problem fixing it and making me look presentable again. I never give her much to go on other than a vague «just put in some layers» and yet she works her magic and makes it look really great every time.
Just an enjoyable experience all around. My favorite salon in NoVa.

This new salon is definitely the place to go when looking for a men’s cut in the Tyson’s Corner area.
Katy Heppes is always my go to person for haircuts, my girlfriend agrees.
Over the years I have recommended her to at least 10 of my friends, both male and female, all were extremely pleased; including one friend who drives down from New York City to have his hair cut exclusively by Katy.
