Ladies & gentlemen — TRUST THE UnilocalERS ON THIS ONE… this is the WORST possible choice you can make in a moving company…
I had a rush move on April 23, 2008; I spoke with Michelle McCoy to set it up & was quoted:
1 Truck/​s 3 Men, $ 75.00/hrs, 3.0 hours $ 225.00
5% fuel charge $ 11.25
Total Moving Rate $ 236.25
This sounded like a very good rate at the time, so I went ahead & confirmed it (mistake número uno) for 10 am… explain to me why on the day of the move, I get a phone call from the foreman/​driver at 7:30 am telling me that they’ll be at my home within an hour?! Being that I’m already NOT the morning person, things got kinda messy really quickly being that he was trying to shove this time slot down my throat, & I wasn’t having it; I was sick as a dog at the time (bronchitis, & have serious difficulties breathing) & I tried to politely explain that I wasn’t at the residence & that I’d requested my time slot knowing this in advance, while he insisted that was the time his dispatch had on his workload form, & insisted that he was on his way. I advised him that he could show up that early if he wanted to, but he & his men would be sitting there until the time I requested or we could cancel the move; needless to say, I won that round!
When they arrived, they were very good about working around the chaos (my home had been raided by the po-​po behind someone that previously lived there, so a bunch of my boxes were in total disarray due to their tossing them!); I walked them thru the house & explained to them exactly what it was that I was moving. HOWEVER, things started going downhill again when I asked why the TV’s hadn’t made it to the truck yet… it was at that time the foreman tried telling me that there was an additional charge of $ 40/​piece for their moving televisions & glass items… say WHAT?! EXCUSE ME?! Explain to me why this fee was never mentioned during the 10 or so emails Michelle & I sent amongst ourselves prior to the move?! Explain to me why a so-​called MOVING COMPANY would be charging extra to do their damn job?! FINALLY, PLEASE explain to me what would make you think that I’d pay you $ 40 vs. packing/​moving myself or hiring someone that charges what, $ 50 for something of that nature… ARE YOU SERIOUS?!
SO, after I packed & moved my OWN televisions, my son & I go back upstairs to finish up our rooms… the foreman goes to move my desk. PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME how he managed to rip the shelves/​legs (combo, which totally messes up the desk) off of my desk!!! When I noticed that the desk was gone & but the shelves were still lying there on the floor, his explanation was «oh…I thought they were removable…» DID YOU BOTHER NOTICING THAT THEY WERE SCREWED IN?! Did you NOT feel a ripping sensation when you were RIPPING THEM OFF!!! WOW… he then tells me that he’ll try putting them back on & if he couldn’t, all I’d need to do is file a claim; do you think he ever bothered trying to put them back on? NO.
So, now the foreman’s rushing to get done w/​in a 4 hour time range, since they have another move to get to after mine. I said fine, so long as they had all of the boxes that I’d told him about prior (after running up & down stairs all morning, my breathing issues were getting progressively worse & I was having my son supervise much of it). Help me understand why once we get to our storage unit, all of my kitchenware (pots, pans, dishes, etc) were MIA? Why didn’t any of my kids’ electronics, a box of books, or a box of clothing (large plastic container?!) make it either?! THEN, to add insult to injury, the foreman has me sign off on the final documentation & slips another hour on; when questioned about that, he tells me that his boss wanted him to add it for «drive time back to San Jose»…WTH do I look like paying you for something that you’d have to do ANYWAY?!

I’ve already had two really good moves with the company.
On the third one, there was minor damaged caused by the movers, but the company worked with me to resolve the issue to my satisfaction. I would use them again.

I would give them a zero but the minimum is one star.
They made our move a very stressful experience. This is rough to say when you think about the fact that moving is one of the top 5 stresses in life.
It started out ok as our sales person was nice and helpful. He gave me a good feeling so I thought we should give them a try. Then the pick up was actually ok because the worker was very nice and helpful albeit very costly and way beyond our ‘quoted’ budget.
From here on out it was a nightmare. We were partway to our new locale and called to check in. We were informed that by no way would our stuff reach our new house. It had not even left Union City! WTF? All guarantees were gone, the gal was rude, the manager would not call us back so we camped with our kids in the same clothes for 5 days.
When our goods made it — the driver was unaware of our need for a shuttle van (53′ semi to small truck to navigate our tight route) so we were charged again, not to mention held back time wise. And — he brought a helper who was way too old to be moving furniture and he admitted it was his first day on the job. He huffed and puffed all night long which made me feel guilty that he was working. The second worker left midway through the move without notice.
I should not feel guilty for paying $ 5,000 for a move that was 5 days late, items broken, a crew tired and rude… I would never wish this experience on anyone. They need to get it together or they need to get out because they are terrible.

When researching moving companies, all I could find was the Better Business Bureau but I thought this review would be helpful and maybe save some future movers ! I hired this company for a move from Sacramento to the Bay Area… and here was what I ended up getting from this company: 1) The time frame for pickup was between 2 – 4 but the movers did NOT show up until 9PM, after I had to call them 3 times 2) The original estimate was increased by the Drivers when they got to the property and the movers would NOT even begin packing until I agreed and 3) I did not get to the new location until after 1:30AM.
The contract stated that they guaranteed same day delivery and that I would be satisfied. I spoke with the manager several times and he was very apologetic and wanted to make amends. I asked for a nominal refund to make up for the extremely late moving times, he forwarded my complaint to their customer service department who simply stated I would Not be receiving any refund.
I highly recommend you choose your movers wisely, even if the cost is more, you do get what you pay for. Also research with the Better Business Bureau as well as research licenses with the Dept of Transportation.

Thought it was my duty to update my review and downgrade these guys. After phone tag and promises of crediting back money on my move, nothing ever materialized.

Oh Unilocalers, why didn’t I listen to you?
The short story:
I do NOT recommend this company. Just pay the extra $ to hire another company with better reviews.
They initially appear professional & low cost — but this is definitely not the case. They gave me sweet low estimate & then tried to rip me off on moving day by charging me extra for unnecessary things (already covered in the contract!) & taking their sweet time moving my things. I could have done the work of these two men in the same amount of time.
In addition, they gave me a huge headache (see the long story below), scratched up & broke my furniture, and gave me unnecessary stress up the wazoo trying to rip me off & threatening to hold my furniture hostage.
The long story:
I hired Dimension a couple weeks ago for my 1 bdroom apt move. $ 65/​hr for 3 hrs, arriving between 12−2pm (to avoid bay area rush hour traffic & to avoid inconveniencing my neighbors). I made sure to confirm that there would be NO extra charges, only what was included in the estimate/​contract.
They call me on Thursday morning to say, «This is to confirm your appointment from 3−5pm» Um, excuse me, we’d agreed on 12−2pm. Oh, let me check… 3 phone calls later & lots of back-​peddling («Oh, we never said we’d confirmed 12−2pm… we can’t confirm the appointment time till the day before. Oh really? Why didn’t you tell me that when I booked the appointment 2 weeks ago? I would have hired someone else) they finally agreed to send me a „special“ truck between 12−2pm (oh great, that sounds like it’s supposed to be good but in fact, is not so good).
Two movers arrived 10 minutes before 12pm on Friday, Oct. 1^st. Sweet that they arrived early! But then… I guess it’s a bit of a case of unmet expectations. I was expecting two large, capable movers. Instead, two very small movers (not much taller than my 5’5») arrived. But I held my reservations in check… maybe they’re very strong, fast small movers?
The one guy who could speak English went over the paperwork with me… we walked through the apartment & I showed him what needed to be moved, etc. Along the way, he says things like… «Oh, that bed, we’re going to have to wrap the mattress & box springs separately… will cost you $ 20/​item, but if you treat my partner well *wink* (I took his wink to mean he wanted me to tip them generously) I can do it for free. I should have just kicked him out at this point, but I thought I could handle it. Then he wanted to charge me an extra $ 75 for wrapping my small glass kitchen table countertop (forget it, I said, just leave it, I’ll move it myself)… & he said, well, there’s going to be extra fees for wrapping all of the glass items & moving them (there were no other glass items!!)… Ugh, I was getting really irritated. I finally got a chance to talk to Mike Magen, the supervisor/​owner before I signed the paperwork… I questioned all of the extra fees & told him I just wanted them to do what was exactly on the contract. Wrap my furniture in the blankets that were supposed to be included in the estimate & nothing more. They said it would take at least 4 hours. So I agreed to add one extra hour. I mean, come on, it’s a 1 bedroom apartment!
So it’s now 20 minutes past & the driver wants to charge me for the full 20 minutes in which he has done zero work & IMHO, wasted most of the time trying to rip me off & hemming & hawing. But he claimed his partner had already started moving things from the start (not true) — but I agreed to half the time just because I wanted to him to stop talking and start moving.
Then of course… they are soul-​crushingly slow. They park unnecessarily far away from my front door, take the loooongest route possible to the car, and move about one box at a time (with a dolly that could obviously take much more).
Near the 2 hour mark, there are still a few items left & Mario (who earlier signed his name on my paperwork as Efren) tells me he’s closed up the truck & is about to head to my new place. WHAT? He gives me crap about my 4 hour limit & says he has to weigh in how much time it’ll take to unload. We argue for another 5 minutes, then he calls Mike, his supervisor. another 5 minutes later, he comes back & starts moving the rest of my things. To help expedite the process, my friend & I help move the remaining items as well. Everyone picks up a couple pieces & make it to the truck in one trip. All that crap over one trip the car. UGH.
More crap occurs at the new place. I pay before he unloads my furniture & he gives me tons of attitude in the process: threatening to hold my things hostage at exactly four hours unless I pay for 5 hours worth of work. & of course, his supervisor is now totally unreachable. I’m at the point of tears.
Then I get a call from Mike after everything is moved: he pleads that I don’t write a bad review… REALLY? Don’t blame the customer for your bad service! Ugh.

Day One: I saw a posting on Craigslist and called Dimension Moving and Storage to help me move to my new apartment. The person on the phone of course is very convincing and assures me of their service and punctuality. They bring their truck and dismount and remount stuff! I was more than happy. I am told movers would show up at 7 p. m sharp on the day of am moving. Everything is set and am almost convinced that there will be no last minute goof-​ups.
Day Two: I get a call the day of move at 3 p. m saying they are short staffed and they would not be done with the job they are working on till 10 p. m, but I should hang in there and someone is calling me right back, bottom line is my move was delayed. I don’t get any calls till 6 p. m and all I get is the voice mail when I called the office of Dimension Moving, mind you this is the day am suppose to move at 7 p.m. I finally get a hold of someone after calling frantically the entire evening and am told they might come or might not come that evening. So I ask them to reschedule for the next day at 7 a.m. I am told that there is no guarantee and the movers might show up between 8 a. m and 10 a.m. Talk of punctuality. I wish I saw the reviews on Unilocal to know that I was working with highly unprofessional company. I wish Unilocal had the option of Zero stars or Black Stars. After reading the reviews now, I went ahead and even got my card canceled to avoid any fraudulent charges.

On sep-​9 I called Dimension to schedule our 2 bedroom move from the Castro-​San Francisco to our new home in willow glen– San Jose.
Our 3 movers got to our place as scheduled, and in 2 hours we were done and on our way to San Jose.
4.5 hours was the total time of our move, just as dimension estimated our move.
I just wanted to say thank you for the good job.

I settled a claim with Dimension Moving last week. The process began in January and ended when I deposited the check on Friday (27 Aug). About eight months after the move. The total for the move was more than $ 2k and the return I got was about $ 311.19. Beyond that I’m not allowed to say anything because they had me sign a non-​disclosure agreement or I would get no settlement. They are aware that the below is going to remain as I made that part of the NDA and the record via email to Mike Magen.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
In a nutshell:
–Movers 4.5 hours LATE arriving
–Quoted $ 225 ended up paying $ 548
–Charged for tape, other materials and was never told
–Fragile boxes upside down and glasses broken
–Movers tried to negotiate price of materials and didn’t seem to know charges
–When I complained and asked for reimbursement, I was denied
–Sketchy

what started out as a bad moving experience with up-​sell tactics even before the move started… that lead to my initial review, has ended in a pleasant experience.
After my review, the owner contacted me to understand the situation fully and has since then sent a refund check for the difference between what was charged and what was initially agreed upon.
So updating the review for fare price and efficient movers and especially very good packers. (they really packed my TV very well that didn’t have a box).

This company is a rip off and very shady — DO NOT USE THEM. They give you a very low estimate, answered all my concerns over the phone, and then rip you off with a ton of charges you never expected for packing materials to protect your furniture, etc. This was discussed ONLY for a mirror, but NOT for practically every other thing they could wrap up. They even wrapped my mattress in shrink wrap and charged me for a «mattress pack» — WAY more then a REAL mattress bag would have costed me from UHaul.
Short the cost was DOUBLE the estimate, and it was 80% due to materials NOT TIME!!! They must make all there money selling Boxes and materials as they charge a ton more then if I go them myself. these Boxes were NOT to pack items, as my items were all packed in my own boxes, instead they used them to rip up and protect furniture. every other company I have used in the past uses moving blankets, shrink wrap, and tape for NO CHARGE. These guys use materials to run up the bill.
I had a long call with «mike» the owner or something, and he was supposed to talk with my agent and driver and get back to me and never did. This guy is a crook — stay away from them.
I really wish I checked Unilocal before going with them. I switched to them from another company due to price… turns out I paid more.

Thank god for being stubborn! If you read my review below you’ll see I took these d-​bags to court and won. And big surprise, they didn’t pay the judgement as ordered so I had to go after them. It was just as much work getting the money as it was going to court, but victory is mine at last. I had to file a bank lean against these guys and send the sherrif to the bank, but I got my money suckahs! The best part? I would have settled with them for $ 200 (their best and final offer was $ 175), I am now collecting $ 700, woo-​hoo!!!
Something I learned while filing a complaint through the BBB (did anyone else do that? you can do it online) the reason they haven’t had their license revoked yet is because of the amount of busisness they do. I read on there that the BBB investigated them as to the amount of complaints. They claimed that because of the ratio of complaints versus number of jobs, it came to less than 1% which was an acceptable number to them. I think there were 40+ complaints against them, not so good. So for anyone who didn’t accept their stupid pay-​outs, please go file a complaint against them. And keep Unilocaling!!!

Update: after printing out all the reviews of Dimension on Unilocal (including my own, of course), & sending them to my credit card company, the card company found Dimension in the wrong & reversed all charges. Nice to see a bit of justice in the world!

I chose Dimension Moving without first checking Unilocal (bad idea!) because I had a small amount of stuff to move and was looking for a company that had a two-​hour minimum (as opposed to what seems to be the standard three-​hour minimum). I checked this two-​hour fact several times prior to the move date because it was the main factor in my decision to use Dimension.
When the movers showed up, they told me there was a three-​hour minimum after all. I insisted I had checked multiple times, and even their paperwork stated clearly that the minimum charge was for two hours. They gave up hassling me and agreed on two hours when they realized I had done my homework.
I should note that this company requires cash or credit card payment. I’m assuming the additional hour they attempted to charge would have gone straight to the movers’ pockets had I paid in cash, but I can’t be certain. Regardless, I received a call from my credit card company (I did use credit) two days later — fraudulent charges in excess of $ 2,000 had shown up on my card immediately after the move. I cannot say with certainty that the Dimension movers are responsible, but I also cannot think of another possibility. My card number is well guarded, and these are the only questionable people who have come in contact with it (to my knowledge).
I STRONGLY CAUTION AGAINST USING THIS COMPANY.

So as an update to my earlier review, DEFINITELY DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!
We did not agree to the second booking as we did not receive the contract on the day that we were rescheduled. We received the new proposal 4 days later. This morning I review our bank account and our account was charged $ 773.15 for services that were not rendered as well as authorized! Poor business practices!
How can a company in good conscious charge for services that were not rendered or booked? What they did was fraudulent as my husband clearly told Melissa that we did not confirm anything since we did not get the new revised contract.

Seems other reviewers had bad luck with this company, but for whatever it’s worth, they saved my bacon last week.
I had originally scheduled to move with a different company who end up screwing me over on the day of the move HOURS after they were supposed to show up. In an act of desperation I called these guys and asked if they could have movers at my place that same day… and much to my delight and surprise, they could!
The foreman called me three times on his way there to update me on his status. The movers were courteous, but more importantly, ruthlessly efficient. I never once felt they were running up the clock. The foreman maintained good communication with me so I always felt I had a good sense of where we stood in terms of the move.
The truth is, moving sucks… and I wonder if it’s even possible to maintain a good rating as a moving company. But, I found this particular company to be the one bright point in an otherwise miserable experience.

PLEASE NOTE: i’ve been wondering why the number of reviews for dimension continue to drop & now i know why — this is the story of how they tried to get me to take off my own review. please read on as i try to make as translucent as possible the incredibly shady business practices of this company since they obviously choose not to be translucent with their clients…
so 3 days after my nightmare of a move, a customer rep called me to apologize about my experience & see if they could offer me any compensation. they offered to refund me $ 81. of the $ 700+ i spent in addition to the original estimate of $ 700. i said uhhhh… no thanks. they upped the offer to $ 120. even though this was a complete ripoff of a refund, by this time, i accepted simply cuz i just really didn’t want to deal with this company anymore.
and then they send me a release to sign & notarize in order to get my «refund.» wtf?! this was never ever mentioned during the «refund discussions.» yet another shady business practice. but i signed it anyway because i just didn’t care — however, i completely missed the condition where they say i can only get the refund if i agree to take off my review on Unilocal or update it to say that i have settled any & all claims with the company. i said i would do the latter, but i didn’t want to just leave it at that for my fellow Unilocalers, so i gave a little context for why i settled. this didn’t fly with the company, so they told me that i was ONLY to write that i settled my claims and NOTHING else.
i told them that i didn’t think i’d be honest if i didn’t describe the circumstances with prospective movers, & that i thought a refund was supposed to be a reimbursement of money i was unfairly charged, not a very stingy settlement attempt, which it obviously was since they tried to make me take off my Unilocal review. i told them that if they wanted to buy my silence, they’d have to up the offer significantly. they said no, which i was hoping for cuz it’s not worth me getting $ 120 in exchange for turning away thousands of dollars in potential clients. this is far more gratifying.
& remember mike magen, the douchebag supervisor? i never even got to even talk to him directly since my move — he’s been using a poor customer service girl as a middleman. & i like how he had to write that john c. settled his claims. hmm, i wonder what kind of stingy offer he gave john. at least john didn’t take off his review.
so here i am trying to warn you that this company will hook you with a too-​good-​to-​be-​true estimate, rip you off, treat you & your stuff like dirt, & then attempt to cover up their tracks by silencing you so that another poor, helpless client gets hooked.
WARNING: DO NOT USE THIS SHADY COMPANY!

I used Dimension Moving for my local move from Fairfax to Petaluma. They provided a competitive quote, and followed up frequently until I booked (I needed follow-​up because I was so busy!). On the move day, the 3 movers were on time and friendly. They reviewed what I wanted moved, and had the move done under time and under the bid price. One piece of furniture was scratched, but considering how much stuff I had, that wasn’t bad! I would recommend them; very professional, friendly and cost-​efficient! Thank you :)

Do not use this mover! they give you a low quote and at the end they double the quote…
