History

Established in 1869.

Charles Rohde was the first undertaker in the area and four generations of Rhodes were involved: Charles, his son George, grandson Ralph and great-​grandson George Rohde. William Polnasek became the owner on June 1 1966, ending 97 years of ownership by the Rohde family. William Polnasek retired in January of 1994 and sold the business to Rich and The Union Grove building was expanded and remodeled in 1995. The facility was doubled in size to 4,000 square feet. Changes included complete handicapped accessibility, a 2,000 square foot viewing room, and a lounge area all designed to provide tranquility and ease for those grieving the loss of a loved one.

Matthew D.

Business Owner

Matt followed in his father’s footsteps and has been in both the funeral and furniture business since 1977. He is currently the Owner and President of Schuette-​Daniels Inc. and Polnasek-​Daniels Inc. and works at the furniture store and both funeral homes. He is active in the community, serving as a member of the Burlington Rotary Club, past President of the Burlington Chamber of Commerce, and retired member of the Burlington Rescue Squad. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Southeastern Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association as well as being a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He and his wife Donna reside in Burlington and have 3 sons.
