Lutz’s Pork Store

I advised this site several weeks ago this place was closed; it’s being renovated & from what I’m told will become some sort of Spanish store which makes sense considering the local clientele

I’ve entered this store on three occasions. The workers don’t use gloves and smoke cigarettes in back of the store. I could not get myself to buy anything on any of my visits. Three strikes and you’re out!

I have been going to Lutz’s for years. They have great brats and Italian sausage, homemade baloney, and the best salami. Their homemade sauerkraut is fantastic. The guys who work here are great — they will cut up the meat the way you want it or answer any questions you have. If you don’t see something, just ask them. The meat is always fresh and I think the prices are better than specialty supermarkets. If you have never been here, try it, it a great find.

On my way to my dentist for my tooth cleaning, I was driving past this place and had to stop. I buy what I call «pickies» meats and or cheeses to cut up and pick at when I am with family and/​or friends. I bought a few things, packed them and brought them to work. I am oil field trash and work in Nigeria so we have pickies parties after work. We bring different things from where we live, sit around a table and tell stories. I had bought some smoked products so I did not have to refrigerate on the way to work. Once the «smoke settled» (get it) I had some time and brought out of the good. The guys made fun of me calling it «Jersey Scat». Don’t ask because I still don’t know myself. Anyway, as they were making fun of me we starting in on the Jersey Scat meat and it was a hit. More than a hit, it was fanatic, just enough heat, smoky and meat flavor combo without it being heavy, went incredible with beer. The only bad thing was I was in Nigeria and hand only bought 5 pounds, not enough for 28 days away. I have been informed that the Jersey Scat needs to make it back to work. Now you don’t have to be going to Nigeria to pop in and check this place out, just make it a point if you are going to be in the area stop in to see what it is all about.

I usually come here for a bologna sandwich for lunch. What these young men are doing is a lost art and I am willing to support them.
I ordered twenty dollar worth of bacon to wrap the Thanksgiving turkey and to make a big pot of mac and cheese.
The dried hanging sausages is pretty good. Its a more plumper, natural and digestible slim jim.

I came in on a weekend morning while visiting relatives that lived by. I’m not familiar with the area and needed to pick up some steaks for dinner that night and did not feel like dealing with how crowded it could be at a grocery store just for some steaks so when I passed this cute butcher shop I decided to stop in. What a great experience! I’ve never been more happy buying meat. It seems like a cute ma and pa shop-​and I can tell it was the neighborhood deli of choice, because there were quite a few people there and the sweet lady and the other works behind the counter seemed to know everyone on a first name basis. I wasn’t sure what kind of steak I wanted, but the staff was more than helpful in helping me make the right decision. While I was there someone there told me I should try to bologna, which they make on the premises. DELICIOUS! I’m not really a bologna eater but I highly recommend anyone trying it!
Also: the steaks were AMAZING!
I ended up getting a few pounds of cold cuts in addition to the dinner steaks… Although I live about 45 minutes away. I now make time to go there about twice a month for the great service, and quality of meats

How in the world do they make bologna taste so good !

Lutz catered my outdoor wedding. We had a German theme and wanted a menu of freshly grilled brats, spaetzel, and of course soft pretzels. We got in touch with the guys at Lutz and they took care of us from the very start suggesting other German delicacies to help us fill out our menu. The pricing was more than fair, the guys were willing to do anything to make sure things went smoothly (they cut the cake!), and they were even willing to accommodate vegetarians. The first thing all of our guests have told us since the wedding is how good the food was and how great the caterers were.
If you need a caterer for anything, I highly recommend Lutz.

In a world where «new» is often perceived as better, Lutz’s is a welcome throwback, but one that’s keeping up with the times too. I consider myself fortunate to live only a few miles from this excellent store (really a full-​service butcher that specializes in European charcuterie). Not only are the sausages, cured and fresh deli meats, smoked products, and things like sauerkraut and potato pancakes exceptional but so too are the fresh meats, including beef, chicken, pork, etc. Nice selection of breads and rolls (hard to find really good rye bread but they have it) and even packaged German goods.
What makes the place even more special is the staff. I’m hard pressed to think of a place with nicer, more helpful people. I tend to ask a lot of questions about the food and the staff members are eager to talk about their products. They’re proud of what they do, and it shows.
So here’s a hearty (what else for a place that sells this kind of food) endorsement for Lutz’s Pork Store. It’s been around for decades, and here’s hoping the young guys (and gal) running the place are successful for years to come.
