Hancock Fabrics

I should have written this review a year or so ago but sadly I never got around to it. I am a bit disappointed that this store is going out of business. I love the staff, they are very friendly and not to mention, very very helpful. Everything I come, they remember me from my previous visits. Everything is organized-​ish in the store, the staff was willing to help me with my projects.
I like how they honored competitor coupons and quite frankly, I would come here more often if it were not for them closing and there is not much left of a selection. Their prices are very reasonable and with the discounts, it is a steal. I am sad to see it go, seeing how this store is so close to me, but all together, it was worth my business while it is still around.

Literally the nastiest, laziest employees. One of them thought she could raise her voice to me when I was checking out, I just asked if I could use a coupon. Its no wonder they are going out of business. I love the store and it could’ve been saved with proper employee training. Those women deserve to lose their jobs.

I should of wrote this review a year ago, but never got around to it… Now that I’m writing the store is going out of business :(It breaks my heart that this store is closing. I started sewing approximately 1 ½ years ago (approximately the time that they have been open)… these ladies have held my hand every step of the way… from what type of fabrics to use… to how to use cutting utensils and so on! All the ladies are great… well there are one or two that are lacking customer service skills, but the other girls/​ladies make up for it! Christy is the best!!! Always a smile on her face and is always willing to go the extra mile to assist you. I’m definitely going to miss them… I guess now I will be forced to go to Joanns :/

I saw the other reviews and I thought I’d better write one, because I love this store! Sometimes it’s busy and I have to wait a bit, but they are always very nice and polite to me and go the extra mile to help me. The fabrics are nice and their sales are awesome. I stopped going to JoAnn’s Fabrics because I found the people very rude and you have to take a number and wait forever. I think Hancock’s Fabrics is a much better place to shop.

Worst customer service! Beyond slow check out. One register open with a line, cashier in inexperienced and rude. This is my 2^nd visit and the 2^nd time I walked out for the above reasons. To bad, the store itself is perfect for the part-​time seamstress

Just so everyone knows… this place closes 5 – 10 earlier than the say. So I was able to write this review since I couldn’t go in and grab some bobbins. That’s Hancocks. I’ll take my business elsewhere.

I drove a pretty good distance to look to see if I could find a replacement part for my sewing machine. Pulled on the door handle at 4:54 pm on a Sunday and it was locked. It would have been ONE question from me… even if they happened to have it I would have been in and out in time. Go fuck yourselves Hancocks.
PS. The sign said that they were supposed to be open till 5pm.

Selection wasn’t half bad but the staff… not so great. They need to work on their customer service.
So I went inside this store twice, the first time one lady helped me find zippers but only when I asked. generally, no one asks if you’re finding everything okay (as I observed further). Today was my second time in the store and still had to seek someone out to ask where something else was located. The same lady from last time told me where with a smile. She was pleasant. The lady when I checked out was a different story. She laughed at me making me feel embarrassed that I didn’t know if I wanted inches or yards because the instructions didn’t specify. I told her I will take 5×9 inches of the fabric and she said «I’ll just give you 12» which is not what I wanted at all. Now I have to measure it and do more work and was charged for matériel I didn’t need. I don’t think I’ll be coming back even though it’s close to my favorite store michaels.

Poor service… Very rude they really need to get etiquette going !!! Students only want to learn you don’t have to be uncaring & lazy.

Decent variety on fabric and crafts, but if you’re coming here for a school project or browsing for fabric the staff is not very helpful and patient with you. I asked if they had a certain fabric and they right away said «I don’t know what you’re talking about we don’t have anything like that here» without making an effort or apologizing at least. It’s like they just want you to hurry up and buy something. As I was leaving I heard her say to her coworkers «I just say I don’t know I never know what they are talking about «really lady? They are not at all welcoming or friendly. I won’t be coming back.

Selection was decent but the service was enough to keep me from never coming back.
When I first arrived there were only two people there, not working but complaining about their schedules behind the register. Never once said a word to me, I found what I needed and took it to the cutting table. One of the person had disappeared leaving only one girl to cut fabric and ring up customers. Than magically some other lady appears to help ring. Now there is a line at the register and two other ladies standing around doing nothing rather than open a new register or help cut.
When my items were cut I waited in line. When it was my turn, I told the lady I had coupons, she said ok and started to ring my items. She asked me if I wanted to sign up for the mailing list I said no thank you, she than starts to ring up a Hancock card thing and hands it to me, I was confused so I asked what it was for. She rudely said well its to earn points and receive things in the mail but you chose not to receive them. Than why did I need the card?!
She than starts to ring my coupons and starts to complain how coupons don’t scan from the phone but never once asked me to help read the numbers despite her struggle to. After about ten minutes of typing in wrong codes and re typing in right codes, I showed her a Joann’s coupon I had since they take competitor coupons. She than got mad and started lecturing me how I should have given this coupon first and now shed had to re ring the WHOLE transaction. I told her I had told her from the beginning I had coupons and wanted to use it. She gets angry with me and asks one of the other lady doing nothing to open another register. Btw she didn’t need to re ring the whole transaction, just the coupons.
Afterwards, upon examining my receipt, turns out she WAY over charged me for my items. 65 $ worth of over charge. Check your receipts!
I took the liberty of taking the survey at the bottom of the receipt and was contacted by John cooper, the district manager, because of my poor survey results. He asked me to contact him via phone and when I told him I prefer email, he never tried to contact me again. Guess he didn’t really care about that horrible service I received. Thanks John, your employees are far less than par and you don’t seem to care.

I love this store! They have a lot of fabric choices and the service has always been wonderful. I’ve only been sewing for a couple of years and I am so happy that Hancock opened closer to my home. Their coupon policy is much better than Joann’s. If you have a 50% off coupon and the item is on sale for 30% off, they will adjust the price to the regular price so you can use the 50% off coupon. At Joann’s they will not accept any coupon if the item is on sale.

I love this place, i can come here every day. If you use their coupons, you get excellent deals. I just wish they were bigger, so they had a bigger selection of fabric. I love that is close to home! U can also use competitor coupons. Great fabric and craft store!

I was actually really offended by the reaction I recieved from the lady behind the cutting table. I was being patient waiting while she finished with the customer she was with. She turns around and says «Are you going to purchase something or what» with more attitude than needed… I couldn’t believe it. What a Bad first impression; I wanted to get a class schedule. When I asked for it her tone completely changed and it just really bothered me…

Sewing! Quilting! Knitting! This is your spot if you just got excited :)
FABRIC
Cotton, fleece, satin, velvet — they have it all! I even saw some really cute Hello Kitty fabric that I wanted to get to make my niece a
quilt. I also saw some some NFL fabric but they didn’t have it in my cousin’s favorite team so I was pretty bummed.
KNITTING
They have yarn here too! That would be pretty cool if Michael’s wasn’t right next door. Not to mention Michael’s has a wider selection and variety of yarn too. I’ll give them props for carrying my favorite brand of yarn though: Vanna’s Choice! Lol, get it? Cause it has my name in it!
TOOLS
If you want to start a new crafty project but you’re just a beginner, you can pick up some needles, buttons, paints, markers, color pencils, and so on…
I usually love specialty shops, but in this case I’m a bit disappointed by how limited I felt their selection was. The fabric is pretty pricey unless they have a sale going on. I think It would be cheaper for me if I made
time to go to the outdoor swapmeet for fabric. And in all other areas I would just go to Michaels for a wider variety.

Don’t let the store front fool you on how BIG this store actually is. The store is waaaay longer than it is wide.
There are plenty of fabrics to choose from, in almost every color and with various designs, with thread to match! A fabric store is a fabric store, I guess, but the employees here are very friendly and helpful.
I’m no pro when it comes to making things with material, and the employees were more than willing to chat with me about my project and offer suggestions on material, thread, etc.
Putting a fabric store right next door to a Michael’s was a great idea!

I love this store! It has a great selection of fabrics and notions. The clerks were very helpful and friendly. Nice location. Thanks for coming to Upland … We needed you!

I’m a quilter and costumer and have had mumble mumble decades of experience with retail fabric chains and boutique shops. That stated, the quality of the fabric at a retail chain for quilting goods will never equal the custom fabrics from a quilt shop. But the retail shop does fill a niche. Not every quilt you make will become a family heirloom. The first 20 quilts you make are for practice and gaining a new skill set so it is wise to not invest in the finer goods until your skills are up to snuff. If you like to make custom clothing, gifts etc, then this chain will meet your needs.
Hancock will carry the Kwik Sew pattern line that I find to be better fitting and designed than the other commercial patterns.
This store is newly opened right across the way from Hobby Lobby and is a greater resource for the sewing community for certain.
The people working in the store were genuinely nice and happy to help.
