Opened a small business account 3 years ago and originally they were great. Until 4 months ago I had not a complaint. In Sept ’14 management changed and immediately they closed Saturdays and also an hour earlier Mon-​Thurs. This was probably a cooperate decision and not the branch’s fault. Originally the drive through was open until 6 which was great. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one that thought this, most days there was a line right at closing. Not any more, I’m sure most people cant make it from work by 5:00 from DC.
Tia the new manager (who I think has a lending background) is aggressive pushing their financial services. The drive through teller kept asking me when I could come in and talk about how else they could help my business. To the point that I asked him why he was repeating himself? He responded that he had to. He transferred to another location and so was everyone else. I went from being greeted on a first name basis to not knowing anyone in a couple weeks. I also received no less than 10 phone calls regarding them «helping our growth.».
Through the transition I continued to deposit and withdrawal funds as needed without issue and I finally gave in and went in to talk because I said I would. During it I mentioned that we were trying to grow aggressively and that I wanted to get into larger commercial jobs and material costs could possibly run in excess of our current credit lines. She asked me to send over the last two years tax returns and financial statements which I was reluctant to do because I had a feeling she would just sink her teeth in. There were some preliminaries kicked around but no commitment from either of us. The next time she saw me she mentioned that she was going to recommend a credit line of $ 25,000 but she still needed the company tax returns. I almost laughed. I mentioned we were trying to do bigger jobs, not smaller ones and she obviously hadn’t checked our monthly or annual deposits to find out she was dealing with a little bigger animal here. When I told her our annual sales number she then proceeded to tell me that my business was in «no man’s land» on the lending tree. Too big to handle in house and too small to send outsource. If you have a business doing between 3 and 5 million we’re in no man’s land together which then theoretically then wouldn’t exist.
A week went by and I stopped by to make a deposit. The teller proceeded to tell me there was going to be a 5 day hold on funds. I had the funds in the account to cover the deposit, I introduced myself and told her that come Spring I’d be in there almost everyday and we’d be good friends. I thought the hold was just because she didn’t know me but that wasn’t the case. The next deposit was held for 5 days too and then the next one for 7 days. Last one being over MLK day which banks are closed and of course weekends don’t count so it’ll be a day short of two weeks to have the funds post. I called to talk to about why this was happening and the response was that she hadn’t received my tax return yet. Really? I said wait that’s something completely different than processing my deposits as they’ve always been done. She replied that a line of credit is there for when funds aren’t available so we could use it for operating capital. I told her that she didn’t need to explain any further and I asked her if she had the ability to release my deposits and put them in like they’d always been. She confirmed that she did have that ability, but she then said that the way our funds currently post will be the same until we have a credit line and that her answer was no. I asked her if this was her policy why it wasn’t implemented when she started 4 months ago and she said that she didn’t know checks from other institutions weren’t being held between 2 and 7 days. She didn’t know? Is she managing these people?
I told her that I do business on a hand shake, apologized for being a little old fashion and that I believed banking should be based on a relationship. I said that I’ve asked you to do something that you confirmed you have the ability to do and you are denying my request. I’m only asking to continue my relationship the same way it’s been handled for the past 3 years. Therefore if no is your final answer then we don’t have the relationship I thought we did and I’d like to close my account. She said she didn’t care, never apologized and. Once the last deposit I made posts to the account one week from tomorrow the account will be closed.
This lady by herself has ruined this location. Trying to strong arm me, have you lost your mind? Holding funds to try and force me into a credit line is a mob like tactic and I will be filing additional complaints.
