Went for lunch I had the kickin chicken and green beans. The chicken was good with lots of favor and the green beans tasted like home cooked. For dessert I had homemade bread pudding with homemade vanilla ice cream. Desserts were awesome! Nothing like homemade warm bread pudding with vanilla ice cream melting right in the bowl. My friends and I took home a slice of buttermilk pie and the molasses gingerbread both of them were delish! Buttermilk pie was so creamy and the crust was just right!

This place is growing and on Valentine’s Day both times has proven to have great food, great service and a place to accidentally run into friends from 20 years ago. It’s worth driving 45 miles to. New icecream section is full of surprises

Love this place and the family that started it all! Great selection, amazing meats and BBQ and really good homemade buns for the sandwiches. Take out and ice cream and wine/beer selection is always a little different and the staff is super friendly. Live open mic night on Thursdays. Classic BBQ, small town restaurant with a buzzing vibe. Try the tri-tip platter with green beans and gluten free spicy hoecakes. Lots of gluten free options and thick she crab soup-yum!

Go there. Now! As quickly as possible! This place NEVER disappoints! The triton is incredible, breakfast rocks, and their recently added appetizers should be illegal… especially the Loaded Rings! Go now!

While I can understand waiting in line for over an hour for a fine dining experience, neither the food, ambience or service made this place worth it. Not only is the host staff rude, but they walked around in flip flops and were chewing gum. Our«30 minute wait» turned into two hours and change. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place, at all costs.

Not to be overly critical ’cause as soon as I walked in and sat down at the bar I Really wanted to like this place, but my friend and I both agreed it looks better than it tastes. I would also add that a small side of potato salad for $ 3 is absurd.

Great menu! Food was fresh and delicious and service excellent. Who would have thought such a great restaurant would be in Urbanna?

Meat nirvana. Holy smokes! Whatever you decide from assortment of awesome choices on their vast menu, you won’t be disappointed. This place gets it. Everything they put out is incredible. We’ve tried nearly everything here and have never walked away dissatisfied nor hungry. What are you waiting for? Indulge and enjoy!

Incredible BBQ — tried the ribs, pulled pork, and beef brisket. Loved them all, especially the ribs. Hoecakes with molasses were tasty. Good selection of sides.

We have been coming to Something Different before they were in the new location in town. They provide a very rustic, casual, and homey atmosphere. We almost always come for breakfast when we are in town. We have almost everything on the breakfast menu(Breakfast is served until 3pm). The French toast and the omelets are my favorite items to order. The French toast is made up of three to four pieces of thick French bread cooked to perfection and topped with powdered sugar. You get a choice of a meat to go with it. We have come in for lunch several times and dinner a handful of times. They a wide variety of choices on the lunch/dinner menu, from bbq to sandwiches, kickin’ chicken, and the applechain hot dog(it sounds weird, get it.). Make sure to check out the store portion of the restaurant and get some delicious homemade ice cream. I have never been disappointed with the food or service we have received. We make it a point to stop in here every time we are in town.

My wife and I come here whenever we are in town. I have never been disappointed with my meal. I particularly like the Bbq omelette, the bbq in general, the tri-tip, and the chicken. The homemade pimiento cheese is good too. Also love the beignets. I could go on forever, but I’ll just say, overall, the place is legit. Not every dish is the best example of that dish, but nothing is just slapped together. All around, a great, reliable place.

Clearly a favorite of the locals, but I think they were having an off day on our visit. We stopped in for breakfast. We were seated immediately, but then waited about 20 min before ordering, and about 45 minutes before any food showed up. One might expect that if there were people lined up at the door, but the place was only about 2⁄3 full. My wife ordered The Easy, and I ordered the crabmeat omelette. I have to say might first reaction to the omelette was negative, but it does grow on you, and really isn’t bad. The omelette itself was very well made, and if we ever go back I would try a different type of omelette. My wife also tried a beignet, which you wouldn’t expect in a place like this, but it was very good. This is a dive type place, but the food overall was good. I would give it another shot on our next visit to Urbanna.

I ate the she crab soup which was adequate, excellent flavor but somewhat tired in the mug in that it had been made well before and was thickened as one would expect from a soup that spent the day in a pot on the heat. It was a busy night so we waited for our server for everything. Following the soup I had the brisket which was done to a tee but came sliced on the plate with two hoecakes, savory pancakes that I found dull in the mild offering and not at all to my taste, dry and a flavor that did not appeal to me. So, my half empty plate was placed in front of me. It was arguably the worst presentation I have ever paid for, two three inch pancakes with a modest pile of undressed or embellished, grayish brisket. The brisket was well cooked but in appearance unappetizing. I choked it down with a combination of molasses and their Texas sauce. I like a sweeter sauce for brisket. Maybe I am a barbecue Philistine but other brisket joints in the region offer several sauces, one for most every palate. Something Different was different but not in the manner I’d hoped for. The capper was the obviously poor service. It is one thing to be busy. It is another to be busy and obviously trying to turn the tables so fast that you bang chairs of seated customers, look painfully at a table that is winding up its meal, to be inattentive when an expeditious manner would achieve your goal, to get the money and seat another four covers. As is true of all dinner service today, the bill should reflect a quality meal that one is glad to have experienced not one better forgotten. I will be reminded when I look at my credit card statement, unfortunately, of the big woman who should learn that no one enjoys your overworked, pained expressions and clumsy transit around the floor. As a facilitator she is the worst part of the experience. She was not involved in my meal but I knew she was there every time she dropped an order or set up a recently vacated table. She is a clod. On balance, I may try this experience again but most likely not. Every restaurant has bad days but this combined too many poorly scripted elements that demonstrate a lack of leadership in the front of the house and boredom in the back. In a less pressurized seating this may be good. But I have my doubt’s.

Was visiting my Nana and she suggested trying this place for lunch. Wasn’t expecting much but boy was I blown away. Their food is EXCELLENT! I haven’t had better barbecue in my life. Highly recommend them. I only wish we had a place this good in Northern VA/DC area.

Something Different is exactly that. While it may look like an ordinary small town restaurant, you really have to get inside and know the folks to get the gist of it. Great BBQ. I’m saying great because I come from Richmond where great BBQ thrives, but this place is a decent contender. Their brisket is tender and juicy, their pulled pork is great and if you’re lucky enough to know about tri tips, well, those are great, too. The most fun part about this place is their open mic night from 7 – 9 every Thursday. Performers can do anything the want on the small stage and it’s usually to a very enthusiastic crowd. Some of the locals have some real talent, some come on down and check it out. Oh, and don’t forget to try the hoe cakes!

While waiting for another restaurant to open up, my husband and I came to check out out Something Different(the place was on my list, but I was going to go later); either way, the restaurant itself was really cute, and I loved that they describe themselves as specializing in ‘Fine Neanderthal Cuisine’ :D They offer items such as breakfast(Cajun donuts, French toast, scrapple, omelets, etc.), sandwiches(all on a homemade bun), entrees(blow Toads, salmon, chicken, brisket, etc.), soups, salads, and desserts. I tried The Virginia Sandwich(which was featured in the ‘American Sandwich’ book), which was a smoked turkey and country ham salad spread — I wasn’t too much of a fan of this spread, as it tasted like a mixture between Vienna sausages and chicken liver. The homemade bread, though, was really nice, as it was nice and soft! We also tried the Tri-Tip with Horseradish-Mustard Sauce; the edges of the tri-tip was slightly crunch with the seasoning, and definitely better when dipped generously in the creamy, tangy Horseradish-Mustard sauce; we also tried the Pork BBQ, which apparently won the Piedmont award; it’s pit-cooked, and this one was just okay as well, and I appreciated the slight crispy ends on some of the meat. My favorite of them all, however, was the Applechain hot dog — an all-beef dog in a ‘snuggle bun’ — YES, a ‘snuggle bun!’ It’s SO cute, as it’s an elongated bun that they scoop out the bread, nestle the dog in it; then, they top it with apple butter and mustard — I thought this was delicious as it was kind of different! The staff here are super friendly, and our server, Monica, was such a sweetheart! The place was filled with locals and it seems to be a favorite! +Applechain hot dog

The busiest place in Urbanna is Something Different and for a good reason. The food is truly rooted in the locality. We had Hoe cakes with a history lesson to boot. The barbeque with homemade rolls is rivaled by none especially if you add the coleslaw. i am referring to the North Carolina type barbeque. Be sure and try some. My very favorite things my last trip were the crab cakes-no filler– all fresh crabmeat and You must try breakfast because they serve beniets hot and delicious.

Simply great! Went there twice in the same week while visiting family in the area. Had the Texas Brisket and the next day had Steak and Cheese sandwiches. BOTH served on homemade buns and both a home run. Fries are hand made, ice tea tasted fresh brewed and not that weak stuff. My wife had the buttermilk pie and said it was the best she’d ever had. Service was slow — sounds like a complaint but it’s not as both times were had 6+ people in our group. Remember, you’re on «Rivah» time and nothing happens fast. Second time we were there it was SRO for a bit while folks waited. Waited for lunch! Imagine that!
