I have been a long time customer of Shop Rite in Vails Gate, while they remodeled I watched as things got added and moved. Little by little I began to find not only my regular items but some new and exciting items as well. The customer service from both front end and clerks is excellent. I go to this store before any other market. In this one block area there is a Hannaford, Price Chopper and Shop Rite, I choose Shop Rite and very glad I do.

Awful experience, both times. Not all that glitters… Confusing layout, less well stocked than one would think. And worst of all: customer service, particularly the middle-aged auburn-haired woman at the returns counter; I think her name is Maggie. There is no call to be as rude and nasty as she was both times I was there. There are too many stores in the area with much nicer, more respectful personnel than this one. I gave it one extra star because the people at the cheese counter were nice and helpful. Maybe they could train Maggie what real customer service is.

Well, my excitement about this place didn’t last too long. The renovation looks nice but the quality of the items, the cleanliness of the place and the people shopping there don’t help. They stand in the middle of the aisles chatting and don’t move so you can actually shop, bump at you with the carts and the overall feeling is that you’re on the set of The Walking Dead episode. Very disappointed with the quality of the items in the veggie section(kinda disgusted as well from people touching stuff and putting it back). Dirty floors didn’t help the case. Decided to go to the Deli(They have a Boars Head product deli which is very good) and someone who was clearly not happy to be there came offering«help». Should have passed. She took my order and as I was waiting, she was taking the trash out before prepping my items. She did change the gloves but still disgusting. Machines were no cleaned so my Swiss cheese came with a different color on the edges and the Ham was shaved without my consent… had to throw away as you couldn’t make one slice from it. The meat department is just as bad with almost expired items on flash sale(you see that whole shelf of dark brown meat right next to the other stuff). No nice cuts and the staff is far from helpful. So, first impression was good after the renovation but it was just a make up for a pretty bad store. I will go back to shop at Hannaford. Is way more expensive but is nice and clean with friendly staff and fresh quality items.

This store has had a recent remodel, which would be a plus except they narrowed the aisles which makes it very difficult to move through the store. They have empty wasted space at the ends of the aisles in the back so the narrowing makes no sense. The produce section could use some help, I brought home fruit flies twice and no longer buy produce here. Staff including management need to be more friendly and responsive to customers. I go to Monroe or Chester Shoprites or just stop into Price Chopper.

The 2 pharmacists here are top notch. They are knowledgable, friendly, and go above and beyond routine service. All of the other pharmacy staff is friendly as well. I have been to other grocery store pharmacys and normally the workers don’t care, but that isn’t the case here. It’s also convenient to be able to pick up prescriptions while shopping. The store has a great selection and has competitive pricing.

This place can be very crowded because they always seem to have really good sales and parking can be tricky because of the crowds. Although the parking lot is actually very large it can be tricky getting parking close to the store entrance.

Year in and Year out this store has it all; great prices, plenty of selections, and pleasant associates and management. This store has grown literally from a smaller to larger layout. Parking is sufficient, the aisles are wide and the layout easy to get around with a simple aisle layout. One special deal are the markdowns of 35−50% off produce, meat and bake goods that are close to their expiration dates. The food is still wholesome, but reduced for quick sale before their time is up. There are good deals for the lucky customer. One area needs improvement. The Express Lanes need to be better monitored. It is frustrating to go in, pick up a few items in short time and end up waiting in the express lane bc someone ahead has way too many items.
