George Spooner And Associates

I’ve been working with George for close to 10 years. I’ve brought friends to him as referrals… Even my EX and I still schedule to do our taxes together (we’re still friends). He’s personable, works quickly, efficiently, and comes to you?! What more could you ask for?! He can be a bit difficult to get ahold of busy season… But no surprise there. Everyone and their EX is trying to get ahold of him too. The only thing that could really improve the situation is a very quick cloning technique.

I am so glad I have finally found George Spooner! Where have you been when my husband and I were audited for our taxes in 2010 for our filing in 2007? Multiple emails, multiple phone calls, no answer. This guys disappears out of thin air when you need him most. So we had to do our research and look for another tax attorney to respond to the audit, of which we found out we cannot afford. We decided to respond to the audit ourselves, and of course we lost because we didn’t know what we were doing. We had to pay back several thousand dollars worth of back taxes, penalties, and fees, which was not worth going to a tax attorney who «conveniently comes to your home to do your taxes.» Not to mention that once you’ve been audited, you’re red-​flagged on the IRS’s list of «monitor these suckers forever.» And it’s so funny that our friends who referred him to us, ALL OF THEM GOT AUDITED. AND HE DID NOT RESPOND TO ANY ONE OF THEM. Here’s a guy who will do a shoddy job of filing your taxes and not help you at all in your time of need, and if you do file your taxes with him, there’s a high chance you will get audited too since so many of his clients have been audited. So George Spooner, thanks for leaving us hanging when we were called out by the IRS. But thanks to you, we were able to find someone AMAZING, who guarantees audit protection, is a dream to work with, and responds to our emails and phone calls promptly. I have been using George for many years now and I’ve never had a single thing to complain about. He is polite, professional and always on time. He does your taxes in the privacy of your own home… awesome! Just a note, he does get busy during tax season so book him early enough.

I must either have the worst luck or??? I got Georges information as a highly recommended «tax guy» from a very good friend of mine. He mentioned that George does get busy so make sure you get him early for tax season. I met with George on March 4^th and he told me that my taxes were done and filed. He came to my house was beyond pleasant and nice! I thought, hey this guys is great. He showed me the number that I would be given in my return, only further settling my satisfaction and faith that they were filed. Today is April 6^th. After about 100 different times trying to reach him over the last few weeks he has gone 100% dark. I have now checked
AND MY TAXES WERE NOT FILED. I get small text response «It is done, I will do it» and that somehow this is Obama-​Cares fault. He made it seem like I was an easy client and that there was not issue taking on another. If he was that busy, why take someone on and now I am in the position to run around last minute and find another CPA, who is hopefully not have as rude. I am beyond disappointed.

Just a few hours after posting the above review, George responded to offer his services free of charge. I agreed to the terms if they were filled by 6:00pm the night of, which he did follow through with. While I am still not pleased with the experience, I do appreciate him doing them free of charge.
Apparently the mix up was that because I emailed him my document (which he asked me to do) and that they were never made it in his «to-​do» file /​system. So the people in his office had no record of our meeting and need to follow up. Because I was a new client I had no idea of this being a need and was never communicated after asking if he needed anything else in the MANY attempts to call, email, text.
All in all, just a bad experience and maybe I just have the bad luck to be the one who fell through the cracks. As we all have probably missed a thing or two in our daily work life.

I have been doing my taxes with George for about 8 years. He is exceptional! He is very well versed in all aspects of taxes, as mine can get quite difficult. He understands everything I bring to him and always asks me the proper questions to make sure we are completely on point. He is very accommodating, making me comfortable during such stressful times in tax season. Very thankful for his professionalism & brilliant efforts. He is a great communicator on & off tax season and always responds to an inquiry I may have. George’s knowledge of the self employed tax structure is pure gold. He is pleasant, and super professional. His fees are very reasonable and are worth the peace of mind and relief I get after he has done my taxes.

George was great to work with. I think I am one of those people that expects to feel comfortable when it comes to taxes and that is exactly how I felt working with George. He was highly recommended to me and he met that expectation, professional, nice, and easy to talk with.

George came highly recommended by two co-​workers of mine for personal taxes. I made an appointment and he came to my office. He is friendly and efficient. I always feel so stressed out (like most people) about taxes and tax season, but George made me feel so relaxed and the entire process was pleasant and easy. I have since referred him to numerous friends. He has a customer for life!

I’ve been going to George for my personal taxes for 4 years now. He has always been and continues to be very friendly and cordial. I’ve heard that appointments can be tough to come by (he’s that good) but since I’m always the last person to get my taxes done I’m not the best person to ask. I moved back to the Bay Area a year and a half ago and continue going to George.

George was recommended to me by a close friend about three years ago.
Since then, he’s been «my guy;» someone I can trust and someone who is flexible with my busy schedule. Next tax season, do yourself a favor and give him a call.

I met George last year and was basically thrown in his lap with my folder of receipts from myself and a new business I had started with my business partner (who had the existing relationship with George.) He handled the personal taxes of both of us as well as our business taxes in one sitting.
I recently moved across the country and was worried about how to go about my tax season. Luckily I called George (initially just for a recommendation for someone on the east coast), and he said he would handle it all via fax. I sent it off the next day and had my tax packet taken care of and sent to me within one week.
George handles business. End of story.

I’ve used George twice for taxes and he was great!

I have been going to George for 8 years. After contacting several accountants, George is the only one who not only knows the ins and outs of the tax laws but also can explain why they were written and how to take advantage and/​or what to watch out for. In my case, this has been invaluable as an independent contractor.
I have survived an IRS audit in part to my own record keeping but also with George’s help. Before submitting my paperwork to the IRS, I e-​mailed it to George. He responded right away and answered a few of my questions to help prepare and send everything off. He also submitted the revised forms I needed at no charge. In the end, we owed less than 5% of what the IRS claimed and that amount was only because of a reporting error on the part of Wells Fargo.
I also contact George throughout the year for advice outside of the busy tax season (Feb. — April). He always answers my questions and offers valuable insight into how to set up and prepare for upcoming changes in my finances and the tax code.
Over the years, I have found George to be incredibly knowledgable, helpful and responsive. As I note above, I interviewed other accountants and they were less knowledgable than me about certain tax laws. George is head and shoulders above those other guys. I highly recommend him.

We have been using George Spooner for 9 years now and we couldn’t be more pleased. Not only does he come to us, most importantly, he is ethical and knows the laws. He never pushes the limits. Very knowledgeable and friendly.

I have had George Spooner prepare my taxes for almost 20 years. Any time I have a question he gets back to me within a day or so. When I get a letter from the IRS I send him a copy of it. He takes care of the problem and it goes away.
I value his expertise and advice. I would not even consider having anyone else do any accounting work for me.
I don’t know where the couple of negative reviews on this page came from but I would be very suspicious of anyone saying negative things about George.
George is, without doubt, the the best accountant I have ever worked with and is always professional and always on time for appointments.

I needed a new accountant 3 years ago after my longtime accountant passed away in the midst of doing my taxes. Three of my colleagues recommended George and I made an appointment with him to finish what my old accountant couldn’t finished. He quickly handled that, and a year later, immensely helped minimize my tax damage when my finances weren’t in the best of shape. Things have been as easy as possible with George as my accountant ever since.

I needed some tax info for my broker for a home loan. I emailed George to get me this info and he responded right away. I got all the information from George and was able to get it to my broker right away. I have been going to George for my taxes for the past 4 years. He is great and very professional. I’ve had no problems with him.

I’ve had George as an accountant for a couple years now and I’m completely satisfied.
It is hard to get through during the busy season. But he always calls back or answers when I try calling again.
I really don’t think most people are rating their accountants on Unilocal,otherwise I’m sure George and Associates would have more stars!

I wish there was a ZERO star option, because 1 star is one too many. Like the previous reviewer, I too received an audit from the IRS for my 2009 income tax return. I wasn’t too upset about it, as these things happen, and reached out to George Spooner right away. He assured me that he would help me out. I faxed and emailed him a PDF of the document and asked for confirmation of receipt.
Not only did George never return my numerous emails (Which showed delivery confirmation) he never once returned any of my calls.
It’s really upsetting to have someone that is in a position to help– just completely IGNORE the situation. Ignoring this did NOT make it away. I’m now one day before my deadline, and literally on the phone with IRS trying to get an extension. I’ll have to end up finding another accountant, who could hopefully help me fix the mess that George got me into.
All I have to say is– Mistakes happen. People are only human, but I certainly don’t expect someone to coward in an urgent situation, and turn the other way.
I have tried calling George over 20 times in the past week, and have not gotten one single response. Just dead silence.
Think twice before you use someone who behaves in such an improper fashion– especially when it comes to your finances.
In the end, I suppose you get what you pay for.

People who are in demand are usually good. Business that is good will usually return phone calls and emails if their customers are unhappy. These both USUALLY happen and when they don’t, we write bad Unilocal reviews. When George Spooner incorrectly filed my wife and my taxes this year (mistakes happen, this I understand) we called and emailed him many times asking for details about what happened and what we need to do. He didn’t return a single email or phone call to offer advice, next steps or a refund of the $ 250 we paid him to file. When my wife was audited for the taxes that George Spooner filed in 2009 he sent a power of attorney document and an invoice for $ 300. If you want your taxes filed cheaply and incorrectly from a person who won’t return your phone calls, George Spooner is probably the guy for you.
