There’s something special about these donuts!!! When a box of Kosher donuts presents itself to you, you don’t refuse. The donut was stuffed with raspberry filling and blanketed with white sugar powder. Sounds like a typical donut… But they are not. The texture, fluff, and tenderness of their dough had my palette wow’ing at every bite. Good stuff!!! Thus far my favorite donut in SoCal.

This place is filthy. I was there in March to see what pastries they had for a function(I did not want to go because of a previous experience) and it was so dirty in the front I thought they had stopped selling retail. One time I went in many years ago, and there were large challas wrapped up for a school and a dead cockroach was in the wrapper!

Delicious chocolate coffee cake! We live in Orange County, but my wife was in Los Angeles this week and picked up a kosher chocolate coffee cake from Sam’s. The ingredient list was simple and natural. And the taste was sweet, chocolately and indulgent. I can’t wait to go back and try their other, kosher baked goods.

My family has been going to Sam’s Bakery forever. We absolutely love the fresh bread, and it’s perfect for kosher and non-kosher carboholics alike. You may want to go earlier in the week, as it can get really busy before Shabbat(unless that’s your prime bread time).

I was looking to buy over two dozen black and white cookies at a decent price a few months ago. Most bakeries wanted about $ 2.50 a cookie. I spoke with the owner here who was very friendly and worked with the price by offering a smaller size which is exactly what I wanted. I was being a pain in the rear with making decisions but he remained helpful the whole time. I was very satisfied with the whole process and he even added an extra cookie :)

If this place wasn’t so far I would be coming here frequently for the Jerusalem Bagels. OMG it was sooooo good! I ate one before i got home. I also got some of their chocolate chip cookies and i loved them. the chocolate chips were used sparingly,(the way I love,) and they had a nice crispness. 3 days later they still taste fresh. I enjoy that all their breads ingredients are listed and they are natural, no preservatives and science. To top it all off they had a very kind man, attending in the front who took the time to answer some question. For those who it matters to, it is a Kosher bakery.

I never walk into a Friday night Shabbat dinner without picking up a couple Challah’s from Sam’s bakery. Very happy they’re open to the public on Friday’s. I’m not Kosher, but no other Challah compares in town.

Sam’s bakery has some great products and then some of them are OK. First off their products are consistently fresh. They have the best Challah and hot dog and hamburger buns around! Their buns are much better then any large company store bought buns and they are as far as I know preservative free(which does mean they won’t taste good three weeks after you buy them unless you put them in the freezer for that time, but hey I think that is how food is supposed to be). They also have the most deliciously authentic Jewish Chanuka jelly donuts(sufganyot), I always order from here, they have lots of delicious jelly inside and they are not too sweet and somewhat bready soft. On the downside most of they products are very white breadish, personally I would like some more whole wheat and more gourmet bread options. It looks like they are improving in this are and I have ordered they multigrain dinner rolls which were really good, I wasn’t so happy with their whole wheat bread. I would love to see them come out with some sour dough type bread, or ciappetta’s. I would also love to see their health ratings return to an A(currently it is a B). In the last couple of years they have transitioned to service as more of a wholesale bakery, which means you can get great prices if you order from them directly, but you do have to order in advance, I have also seen a lot of their products being sold across the street at Cambridge Farms.

This review is for the Sam’s Kosher Bakery on Burbank and Whitsett, the address on Unilocal is right but the pic of the map is way off so I just want to clarify before I begin. I haven’t been to this place in a while and I’m guessing they finally got their act together. I know they got shut down from the health department for some time, you’d walk by and there would be a «D» grade on the window, and aren’t kosher places supposed to be super clean and organized? I guess not. Frankly I wasn’t surprised either because on several occasions they’ve handled and packaged my food with out wearing gloves or using tongs. They would just grab it with their bare hand and then handle cash payments and go back to handling food(a big health code no-no, did you know that 90% of all U.S. currency contains fecal matter? gross huh?) Anyhow, their baked goods aren’t that great most of them are pretty dry and bland, and with 2 kosher bakeries across the street from them, and a grocery store that sells kosher baked goods I have no clue how these guys stay in business. In my opinion: EWWWWWwwww… you have to be really disgusting to get a «D» grade from the health department, I don’t care if you’ve fixed the problems, that ish is nasty!

I am not Jewish by all means, but I can taste the difference between excellent pastries and aah ok ones. Just because it is Kosher does not mean it can’t taste better. I have been to many Jewish establishments and they made me fall in love with the culture. But this one is aaah just ok and nothing to brag about. Do not buy the doughnuts, they suck for sure. The other deserts are better. For the Challah bread, check the others for reference.
