A Fiddler On the Roof Chimney Service

Consumers beware — A Fiddler on the Roof Chimney Service exaggerates necessary repairs and associated costs, then uses scare tactics about the safety of the fireplace/​chimney and your home if you don’t pay them thousands of dollars to get the work done. Please obtain a second (and maybe even third) opinion before getting ripped off by this unscrupulous company.
I have since learned that their service guys get paid on commission — which would explain the fear tactics they employ to make more money.
I was quoted nearly $ 7000 for work they claimed was not only necessary and would involve use of toxic chemicals — but that use of the fireplace without doing the work would likely burn the house down. Obtained a second opinion and learned that the needed repairs were minor and ended up costing a small fraction of what Fiddler was quoting me. Second chimney company also told me that there was absolutely no risk of fire to the house even if the repairs had not been done.
While sharing this story with a neighbor — she said she had the exact same experience with Fiddler, who quoted her thousands of dollars in «necessary» repairs and that her house was at risk of burning down if she used the fireplace. She also called another company, who found that any needed repairs were minor.
Never again!

Great service via James. First he came for a consult during a remodel. Then I had James back to install gas logs. I asked his opinion and he directed me toward a set that is perfect for the room. It looks real. Just love it and the fast service from James. Highly recommend.

They weren’t very interested in helping me over the phone for a standard job, the girl was rude. Also they couldn’t come out for 4 weeks! BOO

I can honestly say that I will only be calling Fiddler on the Roof for any of my chimney needs in the future. We bought a very old home and our home inspector recommended that we get the chimney checked out by a professional. I was warned that chimney repair companies have a somewhat bad reputation. We were given Fiddler on the Roof’s name by a contractor friend of ours. Enrique came out because I was sure that the 80+ year old chimney would need to be cleaned and to check if it needed repairs. Turns out Enrique said that a cleaning was not necessary. He also pointed out the most important repairs needed and then also repairs needed but not crucial. He was very honest and said the chimney was in great shape. We scheduled the repairs he suggested and we couldn’t be happier! I would recommend Fiddler on the Roof to anyone looking for an honest chimney repair/​sweep company.

This company is absolutely wonderful and I highly recommend their services!
James was on time and laid out a blanket so as not to dirty our carpet, floor, or walls, completing the job in one afternoon. He gave us advice for proper maintenance of our chimney and flue. Not only did he sweep the system, but he also used a camera to inspect the integrity of our entire chimney. Luckily, the majority of that was in great shape, but we did have several large cracks in our refractory wall (that I could plainly see!) A new wall was ordered with a heat reflector and was installed quickly and efficiently (one afternoon!) by James! Now we are ready for winter!

Enrique and a colleague worked on our fireplace to get it up to code after some remodeling. They were both friendly and reliable. Enrique finished the job over the 2 day period he had promised.
Their prices are reasonable. We got several quotes before giving the job to Fiddler On the Roof. We were shocked by all the scams and fraudulent repair work some of the other companies said we needed to have done. We would use Fiddler again in the future and recommend them to friends.

I called to have my chimney inspected. Frank the inspector was very knowledgeable and he gave me a good quote on pricing. He was professional and did a good job cleaning up. I would recommend this company to friends and family.

Just had our chimney cleaned this week by Ivan, who was fantastic. He was thorough, professional, and answered all of my questions without seeming rushed to get on to his next job. He even addressed noticed a mistake made by a company who did a repair on our chimney just three years ago, which I am planning to contact them regarding. Great pricing and great service. I plan to use them again and again.

We have used Fiddler on the Roof three times in the past month — two for our fireplace and most recently to clean the dryer vent of lint. All three times the service was outstanding. Frank, who performed the services all three times, was knowledgeable, polite, clean, thorough and punctual. For us, Fiddler on the Roof is truly a professional and well-​run organization.

Had them come out and replace storm collar on the top of the chimney. Guy came on time and diagnosed the leak issue and promptly made the repair. Price was also reasonable. Would use them again. Only issue was I had to wait over 2 weeks to make appointment.

I have two new fireplaces that I wanted to get checked before using them and reached out to Fiddler on the Roof. Aside from their awesome name, I was appreciative of all the great reviews. During the scheduled time Enrique showed up and looked over the fireplaces. He was very professional and gave me straightforward advice that I didn’t need chimney sweeps (saving me $$) and suggested another piece for safety reasons. I’m having them come back and update both fireplaces at far less than I had anticipated and will ask for Enrique.

Okay, so we’re all so used to less-​than-​excellent services when it comes to home repairs, that sometimes we forget that any service should be excellent no matter what it is. So, when I encountered such wonderful customer service from a chimney cleaning/​repair company, it caught me by surprise! That’s why I’m compelled to tell you the whole story:
Just last week I emailed Fiddler on the Roof to inquire about their services and basic prices, since we recently moved to our new place and wanted to make sure the fireplace was in working order, clean and ready to use.
Julie answered me email in less than 24 hours with all the information I asked for and more and, when I called to schedule an appointment (they were already booking for two-​three weeks later), she was very friendly and accommodating. Before I hung-​up she asked me if I wanted to be called if an earlier date/​time opened up… I said yes, although I wasn’t really expecting this to happen.
Then, today I receive a call from them letting me know that there was a spot available for this afternoon and, asking me if I wanted it. I was home (post Christmas cleaning!) so of course, I said yes!
About an hour later, James calls me to tell me he’s on his way; 10mins later he’s here! James was very nice, I felt comfortable with him –even though I was alone in the house– and he was very respectful. He introduced himself quickly (was also wearing an uniform) and told me everything he was going to be checking for. After the inspection he explained what needed to be done, and waited for my okay.
I felt that he was very professional and didn’t want to oversell. The logs in my chimney aren’t the prettiest and he did tell me that they have log sets available, in case I want to replace these, but there was no pressure on me to buy that from him, right at that moment. This is very appreciated, I hate over-​sellers!
In the end, the service was excellent! Prices were also more affordable compared to other companies I researched; not cheap, but reasonable. I would certainly recommend this company, and James as a technician, and I’ll definitely call them when we’re ready to change the logs or when some maintenance is needed :)

My husband called and left a message for an inspection of our chimney. Of the many companies we called they were the first to call us back to next day. Julie left a message. My husband returned her call and she was polite, informative and helpful but unfortunately they were booked for the next couple of weeks. Their inspection/​estimate is $ 49 which would be applied toward the work if we hire them. We’d like (probably like everyone else) to have this fixed before Christmas. My husband then called me to discuss and we decided not to make an appointment because of our short deadline.
My husband then called again to speak with Julie to say thank you and we weren’t going to make an appointment, but if something opened up (as suggested by Julie) to please call us.
Whomever my husband spoke with (not Julie) was rude with the worst customer service skills. This rude person told my husband «we don’t do that» because there’s a waiting list and she couldn’t just «bump people off the waiting list» to make room for us. My husband then told her that Julie said if anything opened up they could call us so he wanted to leave a message for Julie and the rude person responded «I can’t be putting notes all over my office».
Was that really necessary? Just pretend to take the message why say all the rude comments with an attitude?

So like most big jobs in your house from plumbing to remodeling and now fireplace repair /​chimney repair, its hard to find the folks you can trust to not rip you off and give you some voodoo, Jedi mind trick run a round. I got 2 other quotes from fireplace companies and a lot of not so great communication. Thou one of them now keeps calling me to sell me on there company.
Fiddler on the Roof came to the house and the guys were super nice and knowledgeable, There price was also better then the other 2 companies and offered the same warranty and service.
They also fixed the «flashing» where the others said I need to get a roofer.
Now this wasn’t cheep and we only fixed one part of a two part fireplace, (the second fireplace were just not going to use, its in an odd place) and the other companies were also doing there quotes based on our fireplace inspection report.
But they also didn’t seem as flexible or helpful in trying to find was to save as a little cash, these guys seemed more accommodating.
This time with had Fiddler just come out and assess the fireplace with out sending them the report first and they did a great job and seemed like they got all the points right.
They were also quick to point out that there was a rebate on the gas logs we bought, pretty cool, again, helping us get the most bang for our buck
The work they did seemed solid and they cleaned up well enough and were totally respectful to being in your home and communicated on what was what. I would recommend them. But like all things everyone’s experience is different. I’ll be curious how things fair over time, and all these places make there money on maintenance service as well, witch isn’t a bad thing if ya wana keep your fireplace up to snuff. overall I’m happy and it wasn’t a bad experience and I don’t feel ripped off. I found my fireplace company.

I bought a 1928 house and wanted to make sure my chimney was safe to use. I heard some noises coming from it that i thought were birds. So, I called these guys I come and sweep it.
They came on time and checked everything out. Turns out, the chimney didn’t need to be swept. I have a vent/​cover that protects it from animals and it was clean. No birds, no buildup, so no sweep. :).
I paid a small service fee, but they didn’t try to upsell me or anything. It was surprisingly refreshing. :).
Honest & professional. I’d recommend them to anyone! :)

This company worked on my gas log fireplace last month. They were very prompt, professional and had excellent customer service. From the person who answered the phone to the actual technician who came out to my home, everyone had great customer service skills.
I’m a single woman, so I hate having creepy service men come out to my condo. This was not the case with Fiddler on the Roof at all. The technician wore a uniform and was polite as can be. Most importantly, they got the job done.
I’ll be able to test the work more this coming winter. My timing for getting the fireplace fixed was a bit off! Better late than never!
