Hydraulics

I approached this company to see if they could rebuild my transmission cooler lines for my truck. The OEM lines have a design flaw where the way they are crimped eventually wears through and you leak fluid. A solution is to bring the lines to a hydraulic shop and have them rebuild them, which is overkill, but they will never leak again, and considering its a 4−5hr job that isn’t exactly easy to accomplish, its not something you want to have to do more than once. (Dealership/​shops charge $ 700-​$ 1,000 to complete this repair)
I brought them one of the hoses to look at to determine if its a job they could do, and they said they could do it. So I uninstalled the three hoses off my truck on Sunday (leaving me without a vehicle) to bring them into them on Monday and have them rebuilt. Picked them up Monday afternoon, installed them (a 2hr job that is a pain to do) only to find all three hoses leaked badly where they were crimped. Uninstalled (another 1.5hrs or so) took them back into the shop on Tuesday, had them redone and picked them up on Tuesday afternoon. I asked them if they had pressure tested them, and was told they don’t have the ability to do that. Now, while I don’t work in this industry, it strikes me as insane that a company that fixes, builds and overall deals with high pressure hoses that could fail and literally kill someone if not done properly, doesn’t have a machine to test their work before sending it out to the customer. So I left and headed to Tubes & Hoses on 4^th Plain as they can pressure test. The guy there, took one look at the hose and told me he wouldn’t put it on his machines to test as he could visually see it was done improperly, and didn’t want to risk injury when it failed.
I took it back to Hydraulics and talked to the service guy explaining what I was just told by Tubes and Hoses. We went back and forth and in the end, he assured me it was done correctly, and would work (they are the professionals in this field here). I went back home and attempted the reinstall for a second time (another 2hr job) only to find all three lines still leaking badly. I once again removed the lines, and took them to Tubes & Hoses to be redone by them the next morning, and upon further inspection by their guys was told that the hose Hydraulics used was silicon, and that it was essentially a ticking time bomb as silicon hoses and petroleum products (ie transmission fluid) are not to be used together since the silicon will decay when in contact with petroleum products, causing the hose to rupture! I pull a 31ft 5^th wheel, and the fact that I was putting a replacement part in that could potentially leave me stranded and/​or in an accident (transmission fluid on brakes aren’t a good combo) had me furious! Not to mention the whole reason I was having these built at a hydraulic shop was to over build it and NEVER have to do this repair again. Now I’ve gotten to do it three times in one week.
I returned to Hydraulics, and after a brief conversation was given a full refund. I will say the staff was polite and professional the entire time, but the fact that the workmanship caused me to have to redo a painful job in the first place, three times now, not to mention all the fuel and time wasted driving back and forth, I cannot in good conscious recommend this company, hence this review. Perhaps they are stellar in other parts of their business, but on this project at least, I was left disappointed that they claimed to be able to do a job, and ultimately it was obvious that it was something they were not used to handling, or capable of accomplishing. Proceed with caution.
