Lots, lots, lots to choose from. Many options for sushi, hot foods, and deserts. Honestly some of the cakes and such seemed really basic but the Asian buffet definitely lived up to the expectation. Great place for lunch or dinner if you’re exceptionally hungry!

So the reason why I’m giving this place of 3 star is NOT because of the food. The quality of food is always delicious! It’s definitely a place my family and I love to go to for special occasions. But unfortunately they have HORRIBLE service. The servers are rude and unresponsive almost all the time and all they have to do is refill our drinks and clear the tables ! I’m server my self, and I understand what it’s like, but unfortunately they always seem to have an attitude. And although the food and sushi always taste great ! It’s always the same thing, sometimes it would be nice to change it up with the menu since they charge a high price for dinner. But I’m a loyal customer and only go when we have the big occasions or cravings. At least they give free dinners for birthdays !

OMG. This place is amazing! We’ve been craving sushi for the past two months as we’ve been hiking across the country. This fulfilled everything we could have expected and more… and at a fraction of the price! $ 10 lunch, you can’t beat that. And the food is actually really good. Usually with an inexpensive tab you’d expect less than par quality, that’s completely opposite of here. Everything was fresh, they were pushing out new rolls all the time and the hot food section was constantly steaming. I can’t express how satisfied we were with our experience and we will definitely be back when we are in the area.

This restaurant is typical of somewhat up-scale Oriental buffets. I’ve spent the last 45 years eating at Chinese/Japanese restaurants and buffets all over the West Coast, so I have some familiarity with this cuisine. Makato’s not on a par with the finest Vegas buffets, but for Vancouver it certainly is «as good as it gets», thus merits 5 stars. Sushi was fresh, tasty and varied. Other dishes in the steam tables(Chinese and Japanese) were hot, tasty and of the same quality you’d get ordering a la carte at a good restaurant. Building and dining rooms were clean, open and inviting. I don’t go to restaurants like this to eat salad, pizza or desserts, so didn’t try them and can’t comment(if you want American food like this you probably should stick to Golden Corral). Had an excellent meal here, as good as any more expensive NW buffet, and certainly will go back(frequently if I’m lucky!).

Food is good but don’t try to take your 11 year old there for the birthday dinner. If you so make sure you bring their birth certificate, passport, or get them your child drivers license early. Becuase they just don’t belive you when it comes to your kids.

Makoto is dare I say the greatest buffet for this buffet’s style. These kind of Asian buffets tend to leave things sitting out for long periods of time and the food just tastes gross by the time you get it. Makoto is constantly switching out its food, ensuring that everything tastes the best that it can.(They’re especially good about this at Dinner) Unfortunately, the service at Makoto is decent at best. They’ll greet you at the start and bring you a drink, but from there, good luck.(As most buffets are) That being said, they’re always great about cleaning any spills and/or messes that happen immediately, and makes it very clean all the time. Though it may be a bit on the pricey side, this is definitely a «you-get-what-you-pay-for» kind of place. Very great variety of food and good for all ages. TL;DR: A great buffet when it comes to this style. Better to come for lunch.

This place is awesome! They have variety of food which I enjoyed. The only reason why I didn’t give them 5 stars is their waiter/waitress. Every single time I come here I always ended up having to search for the staff or find someone else to get me what I need. When I go here I usually get the snow crabs and of course for me I need the utensil to help me crack the crabs. That’s when I have to search for the staff. There are times when they don’t even have enough of those things so I end up trying to get the crab meat by hand.

MEHHH. Coming from California, we’ve had our fair share of Chinese/Japanese buffets and know what to reasonably expect. The décor here is great, the service is nice & it’s pretty reasonably priced for a buffet. The sushi was the only thing good here, literally everything else lacked flavor COMPLETELY. The salad bar here is plain lettuce and a choice of 4 dressings. Literally just plain lettuce. The slice of carrot cake was really, bad. I had to spit mine out. All the entrée dishes lacked flavor, even though they looked great! If you want to come for sushi & some crab and oysters than its not bad here! Anything else, save your money.

Three stars — its an all you can eat buffet affair which should tell you something. The food is mediocre at best, but if your hungry and want to stuff yourself you can’t go wrong. The Kings Table of Asian cuisine.

Finally!!! A Japanese buffet that is amazing. Interior is classier than most of these other buffets that feel dirty. Food is delicious. All you can eat sushi and sashimi, grill to order dishes, crab legs, seafood, different entrees, desserts… too much to name. Service is also great, which is rare in most buffet restaurants. It isn’t cheap on the weekends, but we’ll worth every penny. A lot of Asian people also eat jere, which is always a great sign. I love it!!! Have no idea why everyone isn’t voting it 5 stars. Bathroom was clean too!

This place has good sushi!!! Everything in this place is worth the price for what it is BUT… The lady who seated us and got our drinks was MEAN as hell! Just had a bad attitude all around. We asked for Sprites for my kids in a kid cup. She charged us for it but she filled their drinks with water and gave us an attitude for correcting her. Came exactly at 11 when they opened, barely anyone in the place and they seat a family exactly right next to us. Damn! Can we have some space? Out of all the places they could have sat. Anyway, they wouldn’t move us. Even when we were done eating, there were PLENTY of spaces open. Don’t even try to take pictures of the food here cuz they don’t allow it. Food is pretty and actually really good but they don’t want anyone snappin shots of it. Man! Really??! How come there are pictures on their Unilocal?(Sneaky people lol) The people who work here need to lighten up.

This buffet has buffet quality food. There is a good selection of different kinds of foods. It has sushi(of course) that may have been sitting out for a while(because it is a buffet style) but if you keep an eye out, you might snag a fresh roll when the chefs put it out! They also have a mongolian grill bar that you can choose meats, veggies and noodle. You leave the plate there and they cook it/sauce it up for you and then you come back for it in about 5 minutes! Dessert selection includes ice cream cups(chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry) and a selection of popsicles(rockets and fudge bars). Full course meal with lots to choose from. Good price for the higher end of buffet options. I was about $ 15 per person for dinner.

I won’t visit again as the food was awful. Visited at the peak of dinner on a weeknight and the food was dry(as if sitting out for a while), no flavor, and overall awful. Sushi rice was mushy, shrimp was dry and difficult to peel, dessert looked like it was purchased at Safeway and cut into pieces. One star for free parking and one star for decent service … No stars for food or price. Avoid it at all costs

I love sushi and Asian food and if you can eat a lot of it, then this is the place to go! There is a great selection of all you can eat sushi/sashimi as well as an Asian buffet and Mongolian grill which are all included. The price is definitely high and is usually a place to go for special occasions such as birthdays. Which leads me to my experience going on a birthday. They make sure you have your ID and you have to have 2 other people along with the birthday person to qualify for the free birthday dinner. Seems like they just want to take your money. Service was alright for a buffet. I had plates on my table which didn’t get picked up for a while and once was piled at least five plates high on the edge of the table. Other than that if you don’t mind the price and average service then the food is great for any hungry person. Food 5⁄5 Atmosphere 5⁄5 Service 3⁄5 Experience 4.5÷5

Years ago Portland had a variety of Asian buffets to choose from but through the years it has dwindled down to just a handful and most of them are not done correctly. Makato is a great option if you are looking to fill your bellies but don’t expect the best ingredients. Have to say that it is one of the better buffet options nowadays. It’s a bit of a drive from where I live but it’s worth the drive every now and then. They are not lacking in the sushi selection department, lots to chose from but not a lot of sashimi. The hot foods area is also quite satisfying, if you can’t find anything you like there they have a teppeyaki cook that can whip up what you want. Their dessert and salad bar is majorly lacking though. I really wish they would update the desserts and not use Costco sheet cakes as the main attraction. They charge for soda!!! Beware.

2 visits … both 2 stars. Really not good quality food at all … even at these cheap prices. Will a third time really be the charm? The charming prince among the Makoto mix wasn’t the cold Seafood, old Sushi Rolls, thin Sashimi, suspect Mongolian BBQ ingredients, Chinese Stir-fry, salty Soups, or fried Frozen Fish. It should have been the exit. That was my second favorite. How can an individually-wrapped Bunny Ice Cream Fluorescent Orange Creamscicle Pop be the best thing at a buffet? Answer: when the fodder is Makoto Japanese Buffet. Of course, no one should expect a Vegas-style or Vegas-quality buffet here, but most supermarkets and high schools have better Asian food than this. Why did I go back for a second visit? First, to not judge too negatively the buffet and to give Makoto a second chance. More importantly, because my wife finds the thin, soft, and soggy crab legs to be cheap($ 16.99) and crabby. She’s ok with them. I love her. I’m scared to think it likely means a third visit is in my future … skeeered, yo. No go to Makoto.

Some Asian buffets are sketchy, and make me question my sanity for eating at them. Makoto is a buffet that is clean, has great variety, and dishes that don’t challenge your intestinal fortitude. There is a beef dish that I’d order from any restaurant, delicious ribs and tasty skewers. The crab legs aren’t super fresh, but anytime you can use«all you can eat» and«crab legs» in the same sentence, I’m on board. The sushi just makes the cut as something I’d recommend eating, but only if you’re a sushi junkie. If you’re a sushi elitist don’t bother, but then again, you’re probably going to avoid buffet sushi anyway. One notable dish to avoid would be the calamari. The flavor isn’t bad, but the texture is somewhere between shoe sole and tennis ball. Also, you aren’t going to Makoto for the dessert. Their offerings are generic white or chocolate cake, jello and some little ice cream cups.
