Shilo Inn & Suites Salmon Creek/Vancouver

My wife and I stayed here for one night (June 25^th, 2016), because it was the closest hotel we could find to Tualatin with all of the activities taking place in Portland over the weekend. Oh, how I wish we’d gone south, instead of north. Then again, we could have stayed in a cardboard box next to the Willamette and it would have been better than this place. It was disgusting.
The hallways and rooms smelled like dog urine (I hope it was dog urine), including a nice spot in the middle of my wife’s bed that went all the way through the burlap duvet, the comforter, the sheets (which are so thin you can watch TV through them anyway), and the mattress cover. The two beds in our room (it was one of the last rooms available) were not Queen sized beds as advertised, they were full sized beds (narrower and shorter than queen size). Neither bed was made up the same way, one had a thin, badly stained yellow fleece blanket while the other had a quilted-​esque comforter — though I think it may have just been one of the mattress covers instead of a blanket. All of the sheets were stained, mostly with ink, but also with… other fluids (indistinguishable ones, thank god). Neither bed had fitted bottom sheets, nor were they made with hospital corners, so the sheets just flapped around with the a/​c on.
And the other advertised amenities? Not so much. The Wi-​Fi, while it may have been free, was non-​existent and completely unsecured (unlike modern hotels that provide a username and password to log in to the system), but hey, they advertise that it’s specifically set up to be compatible with all Windows XP and Apple 8. x computers. The «first-​run movie» service that’s advertised on Expedia/​in the hotel guestbook in each room? Doesn’t exist. «We have new guestbooks, I don’t know why they haven’t been sent to the rooms yet.» The TVs are completely outdated (flatscreen CRT in really, really standard definition).
Our room also featured fabulous beige paint, which was peeling off the walls near the bathroom. Moldy bathroom tile grout in the shower, as well as a sink so low to the ground I could wash my knees in it with almost no effort — in a non-​ADA compliant room. An ant problem. And, a floor that was buckling so badly that both beds listed in toward the center of the room so badly that you had to fight to keep yourself from rolling out of bed at night.
Oh — and let’s not forget the wonderful surprise of a $ 100.00 deposit, required at the time of booking, ostensibly for cleaning purposes. When faced with a surprise $ 100.00 deposit, we of course asked why it wasn’t advertised on Expedia or the Shilo Inn website, only to be told that Expedia and «corporate» refuse to advertise it.

Incompetent and theft by staff

for June 15 through the June 19 of 2016. Reservation was processed and paid prior to our arrival. We arrived 1 day early, got a room using a different cc so as not to confuse our reservation dates. No wifi, notta.
June 18 (midnight), we arrived back at hotel to find our key cards not working. Husband went to lobby to reactivate. This is when we find out they had us checked out for June 18, 2016. They told us they put our stuff in the «magic room». Remember, we have paid through to the 19^th. We tell them this, but they won’t budge. We had to pay for a night as it’s to late to get a room elsewhere. It’s 1 am, and we proceed to the magic room to get our belongings. Our belongings were thrown in garbage bags, unsecured. My kindle was out of its case thrown in with 3 glass picture frames. Medication thrown in with dirty clothes and anything else. When getting a bag off the shelf it broke open dropping the content s (breakable) onto the floor. It’s now 1:30 am, and we are having to go through our belongings and inventory them. Personal papers are missing and all contents in the fridge gone. Because our belongings are thrown hap hazardously, we don’t know what is missing or damaged. We get to our new room (which we have paid for twice), we pull up the reservation confirmation page and bring it down to front desk. They won’t reverse fee until they talk to someone in accounting, not till tomorrow. Next day, we get up and i ask to look for missing items in the «magic room». They let me look, and the missing items are not there. We pack belongings in vehicle to go home. Staff member sees me and says «I see you found your stuff, where was it?». I have ti re-​explain «that stuff is still missing, and this is the stuff they threw in the garbage bags for us». Personal papers and any items in fridge stolen. I just wish i had filed a police report, but i was in shock over what was happening, and i let the moment slip away.
This hotel is incompetent and they do steal your belongings. BEWARE, do not stay there.

The grossest hotel ever! We booked through Expedia (Thank God). I called ahead to see if we could check in early she said possibly… we should up a bit early and gave us attitude because we were early… nice.
We went to the room and it was totally disgusting… literally. Dirty underwear on the floor, as well as toe nail clippings. Something prompted me to look at the sheets, mine was sandy and had food particles and my daughters bed had food. We called Expedia to refund our money.
The front desk lady then had the nerved to ask me why I called Expedia… well the place was filthy.

Give this place a zero!!! I just don’t know what «24÷7» and «3“stars means. Hasn’t met my expectations of how motels/​hotels work. Advertises open ²⁴⁄₇ but what does that mean? Apparently you can’t just get a room even though you have reservations for that day. There are quite a bit of empty rooms but you have to wait until it’s clean. I don’t expect them to have round the clock cleaning staff but why advertise 24 hrs ??? Addendum: So 5 hrs later and after SEVERAL check outs, NONE of the rooms are clean. I was here at 600am and saw at least two people leave. But, the cleaners who come at 900 didn’t clean one room??? Even the empty overnight rooms. Can’t wait until I get a room. And it better be clean!!!

What a colossal fucking dump! Great if you’re a crackhead looking for a place to OD in your own barf. This place is horrible on so many levels. I thought this chain was supposed to be better. It is not better than a full portable toilet. Very depressing. I might start shooting-​up tonight. This place makes me think about killing something. Stay away! Think better of yourselves. Do follow me. Thank Baby Jesus I only have an electric shaver. I guess I can kill myself by touching the bed sheets!

First night we were placed in a room that my wife described as puke. My sense of smell is almost gone, but she had a hard time with it. In the morning we approved one off the workers and she was a bit grumpy. We found another worker and she was very sweet and very helpful. We were angle to change rooms — we had three nights to go. The room we ended up in was much better. Breakfast was out of milk, waffle batter, yogurt most of the stay and no fruit. As long as you don’t mind a lousy breakfast and one possibly grumpy employee it is fine for a nights stay.

TERRIBLE motel! Please trust me and Never Ever stay here! We arrived late Friday night for a girls weekend we were given our room and told to find a place to park. The parking lot was over crowded not even close to enough spots and VERY dark. As we walked to our room several guys were sitting outside the pool drinking beers and 3 men were under the stairs smoking (it is an outside entrance no lobby). We drug our suit cases up the steep rickety stairs and when we opened the door to our room we were over taken by the steam from the shower and cheap cologne. The beds were made however all the towels were dirty. And there was gross bloody garbage in the trash can. It looked as if someone had used the room real quickie style. We went back to the front desk and after a long drawn out conversation about what may or may not have happened the man at the front desk got to the point and told us there were no more rooms available. He called a house keeper who took about 5 minuets to «clean» the room for us. We decided to leave. Don’t waste any money on the gross place!

Stayed at this motel over the weekend. We received a discounted rate bcuz we were attending an event in Portland. This place would not be my 1^st or 2^nd choice.
Pros: Motel is clean. Front desk girls gave excellent service. Room had a small fridge and microwave. Free wifi. Walking distance to Safeway, Round Table, 7/​11, AM/​PM, Burgerville, McDonalds (which has a redbox), and Applebee’s. 5 fwy is very close.
Cons: Old TV, outdated décor, the place needs a lot of improvements (maybe that’s why it’s a Motel), and at least put in a DVD player.

Guest service is horrible, they have no idea what their talking about plus the added insults behind your back, parking area is a joke. My own home is cleaner then the rooms. Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in.

Had a 12 hour day on the road and was looking for anyplace to pull over and rest for the night. Shilo Inns was the 3^rd place I called after being treated very poorly by the first two hotels. I’m very happy I called. Aedyn at the front desk was extremely helpful and polite. His service was top notch! Very accommodating. A huge plus for being pet friendly! The room was perfect. Very clean, quiet, and comfortable beds. Easily the best value I could find in the Vancouver area. Between the excellent customer service and awesome value, I’ll be coming back for sure the next time I’m in this part of the country!

Terrible customer service! Our check in time was 2pm. We arrived at 5pm, and were told we were still over an hour from getting a room. We were in a hurry to get to an event and asked if we could at least use a bathroom somewhere for 5 min to change clothes. We were told no. The front desk clerk wasn’t apologetic or kind. We were the only ones in the lobby and he was incredibly rude and short with us. We had to go across the street to comfort inn and ask them if we could use their bathrooms so we could change for our event. Needless to say, we canceled our reservation and found a different hotel later that night. We will never return.

Great location, clean, comfortable rooms.

Good place for the price. The microwave didn’t work and no flat screen tv. But other then that the place has been pretty good and we had no issues from staff. The pool was clean and accessible for most the time. They have breakfast but it is all do it your self stuff. (which I don’t mind). The room is big, clean, and quiet

Our stay started out great. Found the place pretty easily (thank you, GPS) and went to check in. The check in clerk was very nice, and one of the housekeeping staff helped find us a room on the ground floor because we have mobility issues. We found the room to be cleaned very nicely each day, with the environmental option to keep your linens.
The not-​so-​good:
— Materials say there’s a free USA Today paper for each room every day. Not only did we not get a free paper, the USA Today isn’t available anywhere onsite. A male clerk pointed us outside for the paper, and it’s available for $ 1 or $ 2 Sunday.
— Breakfast (if you could call it that) was extra-​skimpy. The one hot item, the waffle, couldn’t be made because they didn’t have any batter. We were there an hour before it closes, and there was no fruit, no milk for cereal/​coffee, and the cranberry juice was just pink water (and the other fruit drink was out of order).
— The coffee at the lobby was empty when we went back the next day.
— WORST WI-​FI EVER. If it connects, it’s slow as can be. But mostly didn’t connect at all. (Wonder if this review will even upload?)
— The word Dad used for the TV was «ridiculous». None of the stations matched what was on the screen. Totally frustrating!
We don’t plan to return here. There are plenty of options in Portland/​Vancouver with an actual newspaper and an actual breakfast.

Very clean, spacious room, in room refrigerator, coffee maker, Chairs and table, desk, nice beds. We got two beds, so the room was a good size. Wasn’t able to find WiFi, but that could have been an issue on my side– iDevices acting up. Overall– it fit our needs– which were– to rest after our culinary adventures and get the kids to wind down and de-​cranky-​fy. It was nice to see that they have real mugs for coffee not the paper or plastic cups. And the cups were all covered with plastic wrap– which I appreciated, since I don’t always trust the freshness of hotel cups. Oddly, there was only one waste basket– by the desk. Minor issue, although with 3 kids and two adults we run out of waste basket space pretty quick.
