Del’s Lemonade

Fantastic! The original Italian Lemon Snow. I didn’t think it would be the same all the way on the west coast, but they got it right. Little bits of rind (they should probably just use the zest, but then, they didn’t ask me) and just the right amount of sugar. It melts on your tongue and just tastes like summer.
If you’ve never had a Del’s, you gotta try it! It’s not like the Italian ices you’ve had.

All the enjoyment of lemonade with none of the enjoyment of watching it be made.
Now, that may seem like a silly thing. I mean, who likes watching lemonade be made? Oh what? Don’t act like you haven’t gone to a Hot dog on a stick during the time when they’re cranking out fresh lemonade. Please!
That’s half the fun of lemonade. At least I think so. I mean, who really bothers with lemonade unless you’re 11 looking to sell some on the side of the road in the summer time.
To be perfectly honest, I don’t think I ever actually really enjoyed the whole taste of lemonade. I mean, that stuff is sour! It’s freaking hot. You know the main thing that you’re enjoying is that it’s frozen.
You try room temp lemonade and you’re going to be puking that out as it’s foul. Adding flavors and twist to the basic lemonade concept has just been people accepting the fact that they’ve been drinking some really poorly picked out drink all this time and are trying to remedy it.
So how does this joint’s sour frozen juice match up? It’s alright. I mean, it will hit the spot on a hot summer day. or for that matter a hot Southern California day. Which is to say that this is the perfect business to open up here.
What with its car culture and its hot winters, steamy springs, smoking summers and semi-​cool falls. It’s perfect all year round. The service on the truck is pretty good. Especially since it’s just giving you frozen sour juice in a cup.
The downside is that it’s pricey. I mean, like I said, I can convince myself to buy from hot dog on a stick because at least they worked for that extra charge and I got a free PG rated show out of it. But on a truck, meh. You’re not demeaning yourself in some bright colored outfit straight out of an Austin Powers movie.
So I’m not sure if these folks heard the expression wrong and think it’s «If god gives you a truck, make lemonade on it», but that’s what they seem to be doing. An alright stop if you’re in a sea of other food trucks and thirsty. But on its own, I may have to pass on it.

If you are in a mood for something REFRESHING, then you should try Del’s Lemonade! Del’s lemonade was at the Taste of Abbot Kinney festival and were giving away free samples. My friend was with the press, so he was so nice to give us a bigger cup to sample. Freezing our butts off in the rain, we still tried it., I enjoyed and loved the lemonade! Frozen Lemonade on a Freezing IN the rain weather doesn’t sound right, but it sure did.
Their Lemonade are not as sour and sweet as most, but enough to give you that ahhh, refreshing feeling. Also with little bits of real lemon, including the peel w a slight bitterness brings out the flavor. :-)

Nostalgia. That’s what Del’s is for me. I used to have them all the time when I was in Jr. High and High School. So when their truck rolled around I was flooded with nostalgia. But apparently my memory of the truck isn’t quite clear because this time around I found it to be pretty ‘meh’.
I prefer the watermelon frozen lemonade to the plain frozen lemonade but all around I’m more likely to spend my money on other frozen treats. It could have been a weak batch but my lemonade was very watered down and lacking flavor. Maybe it will be better next time.

I love lemonade. I could drink the stuff by the gallon. Lemonade can easily be either too sweet or too sour — I like a nice balance between the two. I seek it out at the fair, I buy it from the market (there’s a low-​cal version at Trader Joe’s), and I even overpay for a occasional frozen lemonade treat at either one of those pretzel shops at every corner of the mall or at Disneyland.
That being said, I had to try out Del’s. I first heard about them on Food Network, how they started out in Rhode Island. When I heard they opened in Venice, I had it bookmarked but never got around to checking them out. Once I ran into the truck, I slapped down a couple of dollar bills for a small size.
One thing I knew right off the bat, that this was not frozen lemonade. This was more like a slush, a lot more fine and smooth with the tiny ice crystals. It melts pretty fast if there’s any ray of sushine nearby, so it’s best slurping it down quickly. And when you’re almost done, it’s fun to tap on the bottom of the cup so that you can get those stingy ice clusters stuck on the bottom.
My disappointment has to do with the flavors, or lack thereof. I know this is probably Del’s style, but I wish there was more lemon and a bit more sugar. While it was refreshing, it sort of felt like I was eating ice with only a slight hint of lemon juice squeezed in there and there. I wanted more. On the positive side, it does taste a lot healthier. You won’t be bouncing off the walls or with a sugar rush headache. I didn’t see any options for different flavors from the truck, however. That might have made a difference. I would get the… lemon flavor.

There’s not a lot to say about frozen lemonade other than it’s refreshing on a hot day.
Pros:
–The cost! Only $ 2 for a small.
–You actually get a lot of lemonade in the small cup.
–It really is fresh. You may be lucky enough to find some lemon rind in your cup!
–HUGE variety of flavors gives this mobile lemonade stand a sweet twist.
Cons:
Ummmm…it melts too fast?

Del’s truck was in Burbank today, and I happened across them waiting for Dogtown to open. Hot Dogs and Lemonade are such a great combo.
There’s not much to say about the lemonade beyond the fact it was good. It had a few but not too many pieces of lemon, but was essentially a well-​made Italian Ice.
Because today was a cool day, I took it go, and let it melt slowly as I made my way around town. The flavor held all the way to the end.
It is 3.25 for a large, which sounds like a better deal than it as a large is only about 12 ounces.

Small sweet bits of sweet lemon peel float aimlessly in your frozen cup of amazingness. Don’t listen to your mom and just eat the yellow snow. The frozen lemonade resembles more of a granita. Lightly flavored and it is not a cup of over processed syrup.
Find a nice place to sit in the sun so you don’t get goose bumps. Also, beware of brain freeze!

Seriously, please don’t take me for a fool.

After reading Craig R.‘s review for Del’s, I remembered the refreshing lemonade he described so vividly. So when Ciara G. half-​jokingly said she was in the mood for a frozen lemonade today, thanks to Craig and Unilocal — I was able to direct her to slushy heaven!
After trying a few flavors, we got small sizes ($ 2 ea) of:
Blueberry
Cherry
Grapefruit
Slushy, cold, finely icy spoonfuls of fruitiness hit the spot for sure! The only thing that caught me off guard was that I was expecting flavored LEMONADES, but they were not — they were like Italian ices.
Nevertheless, I liked them — not too sweet, and it did hit the spot!

My friend used to tell me that soda tastes best in a styrofoam cup (before styro wasn’t cool) with crushed ice. Mainly cuz it reminds you of those days of summer in the park, downing that ever refreshing soda after running around.
After standing in lines at the foodfest, i wanted that cup to quench my thirst– but found something BETTER!!! DEL’S WATERMELON LEMONADE!!!
The classic lemonade is good too, but the Watermelon flavor was soooo good!!! A perfect amount of sweetness and the texture of actually chewing your icy drink and slurping the melty goodness at the same time was sooo refreshing!!!
I have to say i am guilty of hopping back into this line more than a few times. Can’t wait to try the other flavors!

I don’t drink frozen drinks often, but I seriously have a Dels craving like every other day!
They have tons of flavors… Light Lemon, Grapefruit, and Peach/​Mango are my favorite.
For 112 calories per 8 oz., it’s totally worth it!
Try it once and I promise you’ll be hooked :)

Had Del’s for the first time at the lb street food fest.
Del’s was great. The line was short. Their menu simple. And their prices dirt cheap.
Their regular and flavored lemonade-​slushes were so unbelievably quenching, I went back twice, maybe even thrice. A bit tart, a bit sweet, brain-​freezing goodness in paper cup. Drool.
While Del’s is good, it doesn’t quite compare to Sea World’s frozen lemonade. Trust me on this one.

You know when you buy an ice cold lemonade on a hot day, and it’s so sweet, and sour, and refreshing, but you can’t help but think to yourself, «a little rum or vodka could really add to this experience right about now»?
Well, fear not fellow boozers. Del’s doesn’t shy away from the idea that you know every adult has on their minds when enjoying frozen lemonade. In fact, they openly encourage you to spike their drinks. Without selling the alcohol, they even have a menu of what they suggest that you add.
I scored peach/​mango, and tried my friend’s watermelon (both non-​alcoholic, booo). To be honest, they tasted about the same. We got mediums, but smalls probably would have sufficed and offered just as much brain freeze. Flavor wise; they were good, but nothing out of the ordinary as far as standard frozen lemonade goes.
No, I don’t normally carry a flask on me, but sometimes it could come in handy. This just happened to be one of those times.

How do they manage to draw ppl to this truck. trucks usually offer food/​drinks that are unique or at least good… I’d never wait for what I got here… should be trucking around one of those small little carts for this
I got the mango flavored one and it was ice with a little bit of sugared liquid on top… nothing fresh, nothing special. not even enough sugary liquid to cover all the ice! so it just tasted like ice with a little bit of bad flavoring every few bites, gross, not even refreshing on a hot summer day… I was literally eating it just to get at the ice cause I was so thirsty. yes, I prefer the ice over the flavoring… and $ 2 for the smallest cup ever. you guys are ripping people off and taking advantage of other gourmet food trucks.

What can possibly be more refreshing then a tall glass of lemonade on a hot summer day?
I know, how about a tall glass of frozen lemonade on a hot summer day!
Even better, how about a tall glass of Mango-​Peach or Watermelon frozen lemonade on a hot summer day.
Actually, it does not matter whether it’s hot or not or what flavor you choose because Del’s frozen lemonade always hits the spot.
Let me start off by saying I hate the heat. I have been and always will be a fan of the cold weather. When Summer starts I prefer to find activities that are located indoors, in the air condition or at the beach where the weather tends to be about 15 degrees cooler than the city. Of course I make exceptions if there is an event taking place that I really want to attend. This past Sunday I made one of those exceptions when I attended the first ever Los Angeles Flea Market at Dodger stadium.
This past Sunday was HOT. The mix of the hot sun and all the people crowded around in the stadiums parking lot made it almost impossible to have a good time. Within a half an hour of arriving both my girl and I were drenched with sweat. Luckily for us Del’s Frozen Lemonade Truck happen to be at the event.
After waiting almost twenty minutes in Del’s extremely long line we were finally able to get some relief from the heat. Del’s Truck offers many different flavors of frozen lemonade. On the day we visited Del’s I ordered a small cup of their frozen watermelon lemonade and my girl got a small cup of their peach-​mango frozen lemonade. Both of these frozen lemonades were delicious. I was surprised how much they tasted just like the fruits they represented. They reminded more of frozen fruit juice than frozen lemonade. These frozen treats were able to instantly cool us down. My only real complaint is that I wished these frozen lemonades were a little thicker. They kind of reminded me of a fruity Slurpee.
The prices at this truck were great. Their frozen lemonades can range from $ 2 (small) to about $ 10 (quart).
The service at Del’s Truck was way too slow. The LA Flea Market was jammed packed full of people yet there was only one person working inside the truck. They should have had at least two employees working their truck since the event was so large.
If you ever happen to come across this truck and are in need of a refreshing treat then I recommend you stop by Del’s and pick up a cup of their frozen lemonade.

Del’s Lemonade started in a small shack in Rhode Island. And being a native Rhode Islander, I have high standards when being served up frozen lemonade. And this isn’t just any frozen lemonade, this is my childhood encapsulated in a beverage!
On that note, this Del’s Lemonade spot, 3000 miles away from where it originally started consistency and where I grew up is perfect. The lemonade was the perfect consistancy that I have come to know and love and tasted like I was home again. Minus the nostalgia, this stuff really is super tasty. On those disgusting summer days when water is going to cut it, and ice cream sounds revolting, Del’s Lemonade is the way to go.
Everyone needs to go and experience this joy at least once in their life. (The parking at the store kind of sucks, and the atmosphere is nil, but honestly, you go for the lemonade, and that’s what it’s about!)

Tried Dels after reading about it in the paper. Cool! East Coast Ice, Just like Ritas?
Just NOT.
Dels, does not even come close. Melts quickly, turns into lemonade before you can walk halfway down the block. They have to learn something from Ritas. They could also use some custard in their cups. Also, a little bit pricey, at about 2.50 for a little cup from a absolutely no frills location.

Was headed out of Air Conditioned last night, after the Moth, and happened to see this in the strip mall just across the street. The place had just opened, so pretty bare bones, other than the smiling guy behind the counter.
But, what we found was Italian ice done right… all the way from Rhode Island. Had the lemon, watermelon and peach/​mango (well samples of two of them after the watermelon anyway). Nice and smooth, and not overly sweet. Plus, you get chunks of lemon.
Whether it’s hot or not outside, definitely stop by and make the owner (Mike) feel at home, cuz he will definitely make you feel welcome.

Hard to find anything wrong with Del’s.
If you like lemonade, especially frozen lemonade slightly on the sweet side, this really does hit the spot .
I thought the small for $ 2.00 was on the small side (no pun intended there) but next time will spend a few dollars to upsize. I almost wish I had got the gallon size so I could enjoy it all weekend.
