Mamgeni Birth Doula and Placenta Encapsulation Service

Ruth is a real delight. I met her through a mutal friend, and it was perfect timing, because I was looking for someone to do the Placenta Encapuslation. It so happened she was on the West side so it worked out perfectly, because of my location to the hospital.
I had the best experiences from doing the Placenta Encapuslation, and it was done so professional. and she also even took a little memory of my placenta and dried the piece and made it into a Heart for Keepsakes, which is so adorable…
The best part of the Placenta Encapsulation is that you not only feel better after the baby (its like night and day) if you miss a pill, but you also get other benefits from nail and hair growth. Not to mention that I was Anemic and I went back to the doctor and they said «YOU ARE NO LONGER ANEMIC». You are now 100% clear from it and even above that your blood count is better then ever. It made me realize after all these years that a little nutrient from the Placenta could do this for me, made me feel confident this is healthy. It was not like much changed in my diet or anything so I am 100% positive it was the Placenta Pill.
The great part about Ruth is that I have been in constant contact with her regarding the baby and she has given me advice and has also been able to share some of her great tips.
I was not sure my husband was going to make it back for the birth, she even offered to be a Doula for me last minute, and I was considering, but my husband made it back so I did not take on her services in that area. But I know from her kind heart and her amazing guidance she would be amazing and would say CALL HER IF YOU LOOKING FOR A DOULA and PLACENTA ENCAPUSLATION. WORTH IT…

I hired Ruth Iorio of Mamgeni Birth Doula service pretty late into my pregnancy. I was around 34 weeks and my husband and I were on the fence about even getting a doula. My husband wanted to be the main labor coach and we wanted a really intimate experience just the two of us, so we weren’t entirely convinced we wanted a doula at our birth. I’m so glad we did… Ruth was amazing, her presence invaluable and I was so lucky to have her be part of the birth team!
I’ll start at the beginning: After seeing the life-​changing documentary «The Business of Being Born» we decided to not give birth in the hospital (too many interventions) and opted for a home birth. While there seemed to be many midwife options, we went with a team of midwives from the Sanctuary Birth Center (amazing team by the way… highly recommend them).
We felt very supported with that team of midwives but — since the midwives typically only show up at your house when active labor starts (contractions 5 mins apart, 1 minute long, for 1 hour) — we decided to look for a doula who would be with us before active labor starts. This was our first baby, our first experience with labor and — not knowing how long or how intense it would be — it seemed like a smart idea to have someone present who knew the process and how to help with pain management.
Selecting a doula has a lot to do with choosing someone you feel comfortable and at ease with. My hubby and I interviewed a few people (with a variety of births under the belts, across a spectrum of pricing) but ultimately I wanted to choose someone knowledgable, skilled and who I felt comfortable around. Giving birth is one of the most intimate, vulnerable moments of a woman’s life and you certainly want to feel comfortable and content with those you surround yourself with. This will allow you to open up and let your body relax and do what nature intends it to do. I felt really comfortable with Ruth… not only as someone to be present at the birth, but someone I could be friends with long term.
At 37 weeks, my water broke one night at 11:30pm. We called Ruth and our midwives to let them know. The ladies in my family have a history of short labors so I made it known that this labor could be a quickie. Ruth was very responsive and (once we gave her word that we wanted her to come over) she was at our house, ready to help. Having her there with us gave me a great sense of security and comfort. She was of great help to me and to my husband… offering support, encouragement and a reminder to eat and drink to keep up our energy. My labor was super fast (4 hours total) so we didn’t have too much time to experiment with pain techniques, different positions or massage but when things started really escalating Ruth was an invaluable part of the team by documenting the experience. She took the most incredible photos of the birth process. Graphic yes but also amazingly beautiful and raw and real. I can’t thank her enough for capturing this process the way she did and having her photos are a regular reminder how powerful and transformative my labor was. Every woman is different in her labor process and home birth might not be right for everyone, but I urge you to see the «Business of Being Born» documentary and consider alternatives to the hospital experience. Having our baby girl at home, (with a team of highly skilled, intelligent and thoughtful women like Ruth) made the birth experience an incredible one.
After the birth, we asked Ruth to take care of our placenta for encapsulation. She did a great job and even presented the pills in a cute little mason jar package. Ruth regularly checked in on me post-​partem and offered helpful advice for coping as a new mom. A mother herself who also had a home birth, I feel like we shared a lot of the same values and insights into the experience. Really enjoyed working with her!
To summarize, Ruth rocks. I loved her as my doula and encourage you to set up a meeting with her to see if it’s a fit.
