NextSpace Venice

Like they say, «you are what you do»… And what is just as important is the place where you get your work done. Working at random coffee shops or at home was just not doing it for me, so I decided to join the Venice Next Space location. What makes this place really awesome is of course Emmery! She is the person who runs the place and she is amazing!!! She’s as genuine as it gets, and always has a smile on her face. She truly cares for the community and its’ members. Let’s not forget that this place is located in the heart of Venice Beach, walking distance from the Venice sign. Most importantly it is where I work with great joy and enthusiasm, which allows me to tap in to my creative side — daily… And you can’t put a price to that. So thank you Emmery and NS for being the coolest!!!

The following is my experience at Nextspace. It is not welcoming and all of the business owners inside of Nextspace watched this happen.
I was visiting Nextspace in Venice, CA at 4pm April 21^st. I was kicked out «because». (Im still trying to figure out why). I drove from Palmdale, CA.
I went to see a partner of Nextspace called Amplify and to find out about joining the Nexspace coworking space. Amplify was unavailable. I understood that.
I then wanted to find out about joining the coworking community at Nextspace. I let the community builder at the front desk know that I have a company called Eras Noël Development and that it is a limited liability company. I told her this in response to her saying «we get a lot of people like you walking in». (You guys are a coworking space for entrepreneurs… and there is a sign on the front/​main entrance that says «come on in, we’ll show you around»). The tone she took with me from the moment she let me in was that there is no way Nextspace could offer me anything and that I needed to leave.
When I asked if I could apply the answer was an immediate no. I asked her why? Her response was «You would not be a good fit». Again I asked her why… she responded by saying «because…» three times with nothing to follow. I tried to schedule an appointment with her so that I could come back. She said, «We are busy». I was then asked to leave during their normal business hours. I wanted more information and wanted to take some cards… she then says, «Leave or I will call the cops.» I told her that she was treating me like a thug and asked if she treats all the people who look like me that come into Nextspace/​Amplify like this (I am an African American Male). I grabbed a few cards, got her card and the owners card then left.
There is a large sign on the entrance door that says «Come in and we’ll show you around». I have attached a photo. I was showed nothing but disrespect and the exit. Fortunately for me the door did not hit me on the way out.
I was kicked out at 4:23 pm on this 21s day of April in the year 2016 and the only reason was… «because, because, because…». This all happened with the manager/​community builder of Nextspace. She didn’t do any community building for the entrepreneur community today.
I called her manager during business hours and have not heard from him.
Your cards even show a very welcoming atmosphere. I was kicked out with a threatening of having the cops called on me. I trusted your sign and went into you place of business only to be belittled in front of the entire cmmunity, treated like a criminal, and then threatened with being arrested… all for wanting information about joining Nextspace.
I was treated very poorly by Nextspace. You portray in your advertising, marketing, and job titles a community of builders… I was treated this way by a community builder… exactly what type of community are ypu building?
It is… now was my dream to get an office at the Amplify/​Nextspace in Venice, California. After being treated so poorly by management for no apparent reason my dream has been deferred. Is this how I should expect to be treated at all Nextspace Coworking spaces? Is this how you treat all of your prospective members?
I wouldnt want anyone elese to experience your company’s mistreatment. #Nextspace #noloveinyourspace

I love this place! An extra special community of vibrant entrepreneurs, free thinkers, and freelancers. The community managers Emmarie and Nate were super helpful and supportive in every way possible at the launch of my company. I highly recommend this coworking office if your looking for a chill vibe, great community, and a quiet place to get real work done.

I have been part of the NextSpace community for almost a year and I love it! Great creative vibe and lots of networking opportunities. It is also a place to get work done and sure beats working at home. A big perk, step out the door and you are at Venice Beach.

I have gone to several coworking spots, and this is a gem within the «Silicon Beach» community. Other members are nice, love to chat about projects, but never in a pretentious kind of way like other spots. There is a real sense of community as it would be common once a week that members would hang-​out after work hours or grab lunch together.
The staff is incredibly helpful and will do anything to help you succeed, especially Emmarie. I’ve seen her help others in a pinch, as well as myself.
Being in a creative industry, I felt that I have found a home that embraces myself, and has helped me flourish. It will be a bittersweet the day we grow to size that requires us to leave.

I’ve been working here since it opened and couldn’t be happier. The amenities, the community, the management, daily snacks… Everything is awesome. But what really makes the place hum is Emmarie — the office manager. She makes sure there is always fresh coffee, delicious (and healthy) snacks and that everyone is generally as happy as can be. She rocks.

I have coworked all around town, and this is the best place by far in terms of space, location and parking. 2 story, lots of light and open tables. 3 comfortable outdoor spaces, large kitchen, communal table and high quality coffee. And Carl –and Sara are great too. Highly recommend.

Emmarie Dempsy is great! She was super helpful, welcoming and creates an awesome work atmosphere. I highly recommend connecting with her!

I’ve been to a few co-​working spaces throughout LA and this one is by far the best. The «vibe» is awesome, the space is bright and open, and amenities are perfect for what we need… plus, the location is stellar.
On top of all that, Carl runs a tight ship and keeps things moving, always making sure we have what we need to be comfortable and productive.
And Emmarie sure knows how to make members feel appreciated. Not only does she help you in any way she can, but she does an amazing job getting to know you personally to help serve you better. I told her my name the first day I met her, but I didn’t return until 10 days later and still remembered it, even after seeing dozens of new faces in that time span. I never forgot that, and it’s one of the main reasons I decided to stay here.
You can’t go wrong with NS in Venice, especially with Carl and Emmarie holding down the fort.

NextSpace is the perfect place to get work done in a friendly, clean, and inviting environment. The staff is super friendly, as are the members. In my few days down in LA, I was happy to spend time at the space. They even offer coffee, tea, and snacks for members and guests! The location is also awesome. Within walking distance to the beach and great lunch spots, yet removed from the hustle and bustle of Venice, it’s the perfect place to work. I look forward to coming back!

NextSpace has treated this road warrior fantastic. I’m regularly on the road and for the day or two a week I spend here, it’s always a pleasant experience.
Most co-​working spaces offer the basics of coffee and tea, NextSpace goes the extra mile and also provides healthy snacks for guests and members.
Further, the staff is always helpful and accommodating. Emmarie is always there to greet you with a smile and go above and beyond with whatever assistance or support is needed.

I have been a member here for almost two years and can not recommend Next Space enough. This place is awesome. If you are thinking about joining a co-​working environment, don’t hesitate checking it out. Over time, I’ve gone through all of the membership options– a general (Café) membership, a workstation, and an office — and all have served me well.
I’ve worked at a variety of work spaces across West LA, and can definitively say the Venice Next Space location provides the best facilities, location, and — most importantly — community of all of the co-​working places around.
Carl and Emmarie, the community builders, have created a warm and productive environment. Both are approachable and actively listen to the members, making sure needs are met and members are happy. Both also foster a collaborative environment, connecting different members to each other to make it feel like a real interconnected «office.» I’ve met lots of interesting members that are doing great things in their jobs/​careers — in fields that I’d otherwise get no exposure to.
Next Space provides the «little things» that also make working here actually fun. Whether it’s daily hand-​made snacks, freshly ground coffee, Thursday happy hours, Wednesday startup talks, and various fun events/​promotions (like a free lunch at a taco truck in the parking lot), it’s a very cool place to work.
As for commenters that complain about the location, it’s Venice. To me, it’s part of the charm and a perk. It hasn’t really affected companies like Snapchat or Google that are located blocks away. And for those who complained about service, I can just say working here for two years I’ve found the customer service to be nothing less than exceptional. Carl and Emmarie have been wonderful in helping me and my business grow to be successful.
I highly recommend checking this place out — you won’t regret it.

I specifically set up a mailbox with them because I was in the middle of moving offices and traveling out of the country.
I received e-​mail alerts that I received mail. I called and asked Emmarie if she could forward me the mail — at that time she told me that I needed to fill out certain forms in order for them to forward it. I got busy, and just decided to leave the mail there until I got back in country to pick up.
Later I went to pick up my mail — and Emmarie told me they had no mail for me. I said that was impossible, because I received several alerts saying I received mail and that I once called and asked if it could be forwarded and changed my mind. Emmarie stared back at me blankly, shuffled some papers around her desk and said there was nothing there and I never received any mail.
A few days later, I forwarded Emmarie the e-​mail notifications I received specifically stating I received mail and called her once more to try to sort this out. Emmarie suddenly remembered that she returned it back to sender (which I doubt, because this particular sender would have informed me). She said because I never filled out the forms, she returned back to sender.
This is absolutely absurd. I was told I needed to fill out the forms so that the mail could be forwarded to me — not for the mail to sit inside my designated mailbox. I never received a call or an e-​mail from them alerting me that they were going to send the mail back to sender.
Terrible policy, customer service and communication. The LEAST they could have done was send an e-​mail alerting that they would return mail back to sender. Instead Emmarie tried to shift blame on me instead of taking responsibility for her poor handling.

Very rude and impatient service on the phone by an attendant when I call to inquire about placing 3 employees in their spaces. She told me to not speak over her when she was actually speaking over me. and then she proceeded to talk to someone asking her a question there while answering my phone. I ended the call and any plans of business with them.

This place doesn’t need a review. If you are going to get a membership at any NextSpace this is the one to go to. Sign-​up now and I guarantee that you will not find a better co-​working space in all of LA. The working crowd is very diverse and extremely friendly!
The piece that really takes this place over the top is the staff. Carl & Emmarie make you feel like you are part of their family every time you step into the space. No problem is too big or too small for these two to handle promptly and with the type of surgical precision you’d expect out of the Secret Service.
Stop wasting time and get a membership or even come by and work for a day!

After trying out many co-​working spots around LA, I signed up for a café membership at NextSpace. It’s a great two story office filled with natural light and friendly members and staff. One of the biggest draws was the affiliation with Amplify, the tech accelerator which hosts weekly mentor events with high level peeps in the tech and entertainment industry. Plenty of free snacks, bottomless coffee and colorful Venice beach at your doorstep. I even got in a few surf sessions at Venice Breakwater during lunch. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a month to month co-​working spot.

Finally realizing that working from home was no longer very productive and getting tired of trying to find a good spot in a coffee shop was getting tiresome and time consuming, I looked for another option and found NextSpace.
After purchasing a few day passes and spending time at two of their locations, Venice and Culver City, I concluded that joining made perfect sense and it was something I should have done a long time ago.
The space is very conducive for quiet productive working in an office like environment, while being surrounded by like-​minded people who are working either for smaller business or their own businesses.
Don’t forget — All the caffeine you can consume!!!
I’ve worked in a number of different interactive agency environments and NextSpace feels very similar but just not as noisy and cramped. It’s the perfect alternative to working from home.
I can’t recommend it enough…

I joined NextSpace in November of 2012 and am very happy with the environment they provide. In fact, I signed up for a year, workstation membership. NextSpace is a well-​run operation in general and the NextSpace-​Amplify location in Venice CA has additional perks. Such as, regular social/​networking/​learning events that include Amplify people who are into interesting businesses. Amplify is a start-​up incubator/​accelerator, sort of a farm team for the higher level angle/​Venture capital financing. The NextSpace atmosphere has an air of motivation and inspiration. People seem to be working hard and enjoying their work.
Networking opportunities are real. I did a project with a guy who sits next to me. He is a consultant and commissioned me to programming and hosting of an online market research survey.
Also, I have to mention the snacks and drinks provided are great, a nice perk.
NextSpace totally beats working from home. And it is a positive office environment, in contrast to many other conventional offices that can be stiff, stifled and filled with griping office mates.
I recommend NextSpace.
