Planet Blue Venice

I’m a clothing budgeter, so I don’t tend to spend $ 300 on a dress. This time, I went in looking for a dress for my rehearsal dinner and was totally open to a bigger budget. Since it was a special occasion, the girl on the floor (I think Emily) was SOOO helpful. She handed me so many different options, and she was so happy for me. Even though I had no makeup on and probably looked homeless, I felt totally welcome in there despite what some of the other reviews here have said.
I was so joyous in my purchasing that there was a miscommunication in the return policy. I could swear Emily told me I had 14 days to return my dress. When I didn’t love it, I brought it back with plenty of days to spare. And when they told me there was a NO RETURN policy, I freaked out. Sorry. $ 300 for a dress that I’ll never wear. Nope.
I wanted to yell at everyone in the store, but they were SO nice about it, helped figure out a compromise for me, took the time to call corporate offices, and we fixed the problem. I’m so grateful for the nice manager Sarah and all the staff that helped me out. Thank you guys SO much!

I love this Planet Blue. First of all– they carry amazing designer brands and curate perfectly to the boho babe inside all of us. Second of all– it’s a big space so u have room to roam and they have a ton of stock which makes shopping easier bc they actually carry a plethora of sizes. Thirdly, and most importantly– the staff here are great! Sarah, the manager is a styling genius. She is super helpful and will create looks for u that make you feel like a Goddess. I love her! The discount on Unilocal for this place is FAKE! They won’t let you use it so don’t base your prices around the discount! Everything is full price.
Other than that, the girls who work there are lovely and their dresses are amazing. I have been getting tons of compliments on my For Love and Lemons dress since I got it back in October. I definitely would recommend for event dress shopping, or every day outfits. They have both!

I really would like to have purchased items here but after being scanned up and down by the sales associates instead of being greeted I was turned off.
*Let’s not forget, at the end of the day you are working at a retail store. You are no one special!

I’ll preface this review by giving this place one compliment — the girl on the floor who was helping me was very nice.
I’m a fan of Planet Blue and give them a lot of business. My most recent experience at the Venice location was very disappointing.
I recently ordered a couple items online and went to the Venice location to return one of them. I read the returns/​exchanges page on Planet Blue’s website, which states that items ordered online are eligible for a full refund within 30 days, which is different than their policy for in-​store purchases — these items can only be exchanged. The manager at this location informed me that I was wrong about this — that the items could not be returned for a refund.
I told her that I’ve been able to return items I’ve purchased on the web before at other locations, and her response was «No, that’s not allowed.» So what did I do? Pulled up the website of course with this information. She STILL offered no reason for not letting me return the item for a refund.
Ummm…so why is this on your corporate website?
I told her I would go to a different location to return it and left the store.
Thank you for making me have to waste my time by going to a different location due to not having knowledge of your own store. I’ll be sure to keep my business elsewhere.

This store has great surfer, Cali chic basics but is definately not for a girl on a budget. Got a pair of one teaspoon shorts and a free people shirt and it was about $ 250. Eek! Not overpriced for the brands they carry, they are just more expensive brands. Similar to a more curated mix of anthropology, urban outfitters, and moon doggies surf shop. The staff is also knowledgable of the brands and sizing and very friendly. I never felt like they were pressuring me to buy things i didn’t think looked good or I didn’t want.

My favorite planet blue location! I live in Brentwood (by Santa Monica) and will always skip out on the Montana location and head to Venice because I love this location so much. They’re always getting new stuff in and the staff here are so nice and always helpful. Plus I love the open layout and everything is so much easier to find here. Shout out to Heather who works there — she’s so sweet and has helped me pick out outfits for several occasions. thank you!

I live in the area and shop here (at the Main Street location) quite regularly. They have a great selection and are always updating. The staff is super sweet and helpful. They have a huge selection of designer bikinis and denim, as well as more For Love and Lemons items than any local spot. They also carry a ton of costume jewelry from local designers, which I love.
My only issue is with the return policy and post-​purchase customer service. I spend a lot of money at this store, and while I understand there is a strict policy, it just doesn’t seem like the best way to treat your regular customers.
I purchased a $ 200 pair of jeans here in December, and while in Greece last week, they began ripping at the seam on the rear pocket. I brought them back in, hoping for a replacement or store credit and was told, after the manager contact the designer, that I had to contact the designer directly.
I was a little put off, to be honest. I am a loyal customer and shop here very often. But, at the end of the day, if it’s company policy there isn’t really anything the staff can do. It won’t stop me from shopping here, but I will be more careful and picky with my purchases going forward.

An empty huge shop. And loads of clumsy girlie employees which are only gossip with each other. They have no clue of fashion either they say hello or good bye. That’s a no service old uncool fashion shop.

I purchased a pair of pants that were on sale through Planet Blue’s website, and realized upon receiving them that they were a size too big. I went to my local Venice store (that I’ve been going to for years) to see if I could do a swap for a smaller size. The new manager briskly and dismissively told me that sale item purchases were final, and offered no recourse or suggestions for getting pants that actually fit me. I was surprised to have this kind of experience here because the customer service has always been great.

This happened a while ago, but I am just getting to writing my review. I have shopped at Planet Blue for years. Actually, it really was the only store I shopped at. They have all the lines I love and a great selection. On this specific shopping spree and for my first time ever… I visited a sale rack. I don’t think I have ever shopped on a sale rack before. It’s just not my thing and I am not sure why I did on this day. But, I bought a shirt off the sale rack that was really cute. It was originally around $ 300 and I purchased it for around $ 150. I had it for a while. Never wore it! Sat in my closet. I had a meeting so I thought it would be the perfect time to pull out the top. During my meeting the shirt started to unravel at the seam. (So embarrassing) Now, if this wasn’t at the seam, that would be one thing. But, since it was on the seam, it means that it was carelessly sewed. I called the store immediately and they told me since it was over their return policy date and that because it was on sale, they would not give me a store credit or a refund. I then called their Beverly Hills store, which is the store I usually shop at. This day I happened to be on Montana Avenue and purchased it there. After many phone calls and emails with the corporate manager and countless calls to the actual company that makes the shirt, who never got back to me… I am still stuck with the shirt. $ 150 down the drain. Not an inexpensive shirt for being on sale. It amazes me that a company would be willing to lose such a great customer for what probably cost them about $ 120 for the actual shirt. I have never been back to Planet Blue and now give all my business to Revolve Clothing, who actually have a wider selection, more lines I love and a fabulous return policy.
I would NEVER recommend shopping at a store that has terrible customer service. I would pay all the money in the world just to have GOOD service.

I always find the cutest clothes at Planet Blue, but they are so expensive. If you can afford it, this may be a great a spot for you, but if you can’t, its kinda a bummer to go into.

BEST Shopping Experience EVER! The Lovely, Spirited and Hardworking staff (Christina, Jamie, Bella & Co) always make you feel really welcome and at home. They know what I like and go the extra mile to help me shop by picking out pieces I somehow miss. Planet Blue is like Christmas for me– the store looks like a candy shop and I love the friendships I’ve formed with the staff. I forget they’re working sometimes b/​c it just feels like catching up with friends when I’m here. LOVE LOVE LOVE xxx

I can’t say I’ve had the best experience as far as customer service goes at any of their locations, it is everything sup-​par imaginable. But Mady changed my entire outlook on the store & brand. She went above & beyond to find a top for me that was sold out, texting me updates from her private phone. She rocks– if anybody needs a personal shopper or are just plain sick of Planet Blue’s usual «nose in the air» attitude (c’mon people, I pay your bills), then she is your girl. Thanks a million, Mady!

I’ll start off by saying that I love the clothes at planet blue and have bought some great pieces from them.
I walked in today and there were 3 girls on the floor on a Friday afternoon and no one greeted me. This is really off putting and the only interaction was when one of them noticed I had some items in my hand. She walked over to me and proceeded to grab the items from my hands. She must have noticed that I wasn’t too happy about it and said, oh I’ll start a room for you.
While the selection is great at this location I don’t think I’ll be returning and will just go to the montana location.

Terrible customer service. Really should look into hiring people who actually do their job. Obviously weren’t concerned with making a sale, they are lucky that I still bought what I came for. I the Westlake Village store was still open, staff there was extremely friendly and helpful.

I love Main Street and it’s shops. Love the vibe, love the near-​constant ocean breeze, and love that almost anywhere you shop on Main Street you are supporting a small business, Starbucks notwithstanding. I literally get a little rush of gratitude along the lines of «Do I really get to live here?» every time I’m on this block, that is until I step into Planet Blue.
10 years ago this used to be THE place to shop in LA (in particular their mothership in Malibu) for all the newest, hottest brands. It was something to aspire to. It was a specific while admittedly vain right of passage to be able to afford a great outfit from Planet Blue, and walking out swinging that bag made you feel just a little bit cooler. Cut to 2012, and the bloom is most definitely off that rose.
I was last in last week. The first thing I noticed was that the inventory was looking really anorexic. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason to what was in stock, and it was pretty slim pickings. While it’s never been stuffed to the rafters (that’s a good thing) the offerings were so spare and random that it prompted me to ask one of the employees if they were closing. Turns out they had recently stopped carrying their men’s clothing, which accounts for at least some of the wide open space. Such is their prerogative, and that doesn’t really impact my experience.
But hey, here’s what does impact my experience: the bitchy, entitled, gum-​smacking, can’t-be-bothered gaggle of girls that haunt the glass donut around the registers, i.e. «work» here. I’m fine being on my own to look around, most of us are. The problem with us pesky customers is that we occasionally do need something, and if you are shopping here you and need some help you had better be A) a Kardashian, or B) louder and bitchier than they are apathetic. Unfortunately for me, I’m neither.
So I did a little haunting of my own, at the makeup counter, trying desperately to get one of these ladies to help me purchase something. While only one of the 3 were with another customer (or doing any work at all), all of them heard me ask for help. One went back to folding tee shirts a couple of feet away (an urgent retail task if there ever was one), and the other — and I’m not kidding — literally sighed, leaned against the counter and began a really intense inspection of her split ends.
Just a reminder, this is a clothing store. A CLOTHING store. Not the Vatican, or the Mayo Clinic, or even the only open clothing store in Santa Monica. They’re selling some dusty skincare and a smattering of $ 80 tee shirts, not the cure for cancer.
So after 9 minutes (yep, I counted) of staring at their backs and being ignored while they huddled and discussed bottle service, spray tans, Valtrex, or whatever it is that occupies their tiny minds, I was given the opportunity to be told that in fact every one of the 6 products I was interested in was sold out, and they had no idea when or if they’d ever be getting them in stock. Thanks, ladies!
So I’m afraid I’m throwing some permanent shade on the folks at Planet Blue. As for the products I wanted, I went home and purchased them the old-​fashioned way, online. No attitude. Free shipping. Done.

Huge store.
They have an interesting blend of stuff and the staff is very sweet. In fact, I called looking for something and they actually held it for me.
It’s the kind of store where you go shopping with your girlfriends.

Outrageously expensive and out of my price range, I do find myself just looking around sometimes since its 3 blocks away from me & hard to pass by. They did however have a 75% off sale on their spa stuff so I did manage to get a super deal on some face lotion & face astringent. The face astringent had a «TESTER» sticker on it but hadnt been used so I asked how much it would be since it didnt have a price tag. She said since it says tester she would just give it to me for free! Its a huge bottle, too! Really nice staff.

This has always been one of my favorite shops in Los Angeles. From their eclectic jewelry selection to their funky and stylish clothes, I never leave this store empty handed.
And a week ago my love of this store was even further confirmed by the amazing staff! The managers, Tracy and Jodie (I hope I got those names right), were so helpful and accommodating and even allowed me the ‘Black Friday’ discount 2 days early since I wouldn’t be able to make it in the shop at the end of the week! Way cool, girls.
The rest of the staff was great as well, never following me around to try and push merchandise on me, but let me look for myself and let the clothes speak for themselves. I, for one, can’t stand it when I’m followed around with someone breathing down my neck. But I so appreciate it when the clothes I have picked up are taken to a dressing room for me, and that’s exactly what they offered.
I left feeling happy about my selections and definitely wanting more, so I will be back in the shop soon for some holiday wish-​list making. Thanks again girls for some great customer service!
