Great happy hour and quaint spot with friends. Only thing is music is loud so reserve a table outside worth it to conversate… Other then that the mojitos are so refreshing and the food is good

We got there at 11am and were seated immediately in the perfect spot… yes it was sunny and we loved it! I consider myself a benedict connoisseur and I loved how this was done. The arugula and frisee salad was the perfect side to soak up the yolk and hollandaise. I can’t wait to go back and try the hash. If only I lived in Venice… Cheers to Sunny Spot!

An early adapter to what has become South Abbot Kinney, Sunnyspot is a good place to gather and indulge. The outdoor patio allows for tranquil open air seating with swaying palm trees and a trustafarian soundtrack, while the indoor seating has an open and relaxed vibe up front (which can get loud at peak hours) and a more traditional restaurant feel in back. There is a tiki birdcage type corner booth in back ideal for a small birthday or anniversary!
With that said, the food and drinks are just average. Too bad because I live close.

Organized a baby shower for around 20 woman at sunny spot. Though I understand Saturday mornings are a busy and table space is precious the amount of space the manager thought 20 women could cram into was ridiculous. There was one long thin table that we sat 14 women at tightly yet she continued to inform us 20 people could fit. I guess if we sat on each other’s laps… maybe. She wasn’t terribly warm, welcoming or friendly.
Now our waitress on the other hand was great. We kept her busy with drink orders and she was very gracious.
Overall the food was good, but not great. A couple of us had ordered eggs Benedict and our eggs were closer to hard boiled which was disappointing. The biscuits however were divine. The side arugula and frisée tasted like a salt lick. The bloody Mary’s were great and the few girls who wanted their Bloody Mary extra spicy got it that way.
Overall we had a nice time and the shower went very well.

overall, this place is blah. this is because im a Cali black gay queen that resides in NYC, but I could come again. I love the Cali scene. I appreciate the warmth. the music is on point. and the drink to chaser ratio is accepatable.

First time I’ve been here even though I’ve lived in the area for almost five years now. First time for food that is. I’ve been here late at night for drinks and it was pretty good but honestly it was so long ago I don’t really remember that much about it. Their menu recently changed, so if you’re looking for their steak and eggs that everyone sees on Unilocal,they don’t have it anymore. BUT, everything else on My friend got the short rib hash and I got the hot (fried) chicken sandwich.
I was initially disappointed that they didn’t have their steak and eggs anymore but oh my god, their fried chicken sandwich was absolutely incredible. I had no regrets getting it. In fact I think it’s probably one of the top 5 fried chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had. EVER HAD!
This place is incredibly popular in the MDR area though so be aware that it can be quite the wait during the weekend. They’ve got an incredible outdoor patio area and a bit of a fancier inside area with tablecloths. The inside is a little darker but better for people looking for a slightly more intimate setting.
Overall this place is a great spot in the MDR area for brunch or drinks later at night. The only negative mark I’d say is that the valet is an extortionist 7 dollars when there is absolutely free parking on the street not 10 feet away.

Sadly. They’ve changed their menu. I know I know. Change is inevitable. BUT. Why oh why… Did you take off the double fisted and mofongo burger and the chunky fries? The new fries are delicious. Don’t get me wrong, but I loved those old fries… Food is still delish. Can’t complain… I guess I was disappointed I had a meal in mind and couldn’t get it so I’m being a cry baby.
Also. Somehow, word got out how freakin awesome this place is to the 20 something hipster commune… Ugh. Anyways. Lots of belly buttons which should never see the sunlight of day was seen by these old Asian eyes this day… Yuck. Not being judgey. Just old school I suppose. I may or may it have seen some nipple action by accident too… Word of advice to the young ladies out there. Keep it classy. Leave some for the imagination. But I digress.
This opinion has nothing to do with sunny spot. I still do love this place… Take a chance. They never disappoint.

Big fan of the Caribbean theme and hip hop music. I have been multiple times on different days and times and always satisfied. Their bottomless mimosas are great and never have to ask for a refill as well as the options are nice to mix it up. The brunch food menu is superb and all the options are tasty. Great for groups just park in the neighborhood behind them.

It’s a great spot for Sunday brunch! With the large, naturally sunlit space and the fun funky interior decorations, it’s a perfect choice for a place to eat with friends over the weekend! The beach is also very close by, so it could be a great spot to stop and eat before a day in the LA sun!
The bottomless is another great aspect. While it is a bit pricey-​er than other bottomless brunch options in Venice itself ($ 16/​person), they allow you to mix between mimosas, bloody marys and rum punch! All three are really good and recommended!
The food was great! I got the chocolate chip pancakes which were delicious! The service was also wonderful! The person helping us was friendly, patient and just made the vibe of the restaurant that much better!

We arrived around 12pm on a Sunday for brunch and were given a 40 – 50 min wait time which felt pretty standard. This place was busy and popping with floppy hat wearing hipsters with their bottomless drinks in hand. Things to note — * valet parking for $ 7 buckaroos * kind of loud * smaller than usual tables.
Overall this place was okay, but it I won’t be coming back. I got the huevos rancheros which was good, a little spicy, so consider getting the green salsa on the side. We also had some cold brews, short rib hash and a shredded pork burrito. Everyone thought their food was tasty but not tasty enough for the price. For four people it was $ 95 bucks and we didn’t even get any bottomless drinks. Our server also forgot our chips and quac which was fine and he took it off our bill.
I feel like there are better brunch places, that’s really what it comes down to.

Delicious! So cute and such a great place to brunch! The place is big and they were able to seat 9 of us within 15 minutes at 2 in the afternoon.
The bottomless is a bit pricey at $ 16/​glass, but its so good. I got rum punch for every round, but the mimosas/​bloody maries were not bad either.
The ambience was so cute. My favorite part was the hooks on the side of the table, perfect for our bags/​sweaters. However, it was SUPER loud. We were all yelling at each other just to hear.
I got the huevos rancheros, and they were really good. Granted, I was 2 drinks in when I ate this, but it was still amazing.
Overall, will go again, but will go there early so I can make full use of the bottomless.

I’ve come here dozens of times. Probably more like 5 dozen. I love the rum punch, and I love the bottomless deal. I also love the bar staff, and their constant spectacular service they provide.
Today there was an hour wait, so we sat at the bar to order drinks until our table was ready. We ordered bottomless (rum punch, mimosa, bloody mary [exchangeable]) and they said we could transfer that to the table. Once we got the the table they told us that we had to order a full plate in order to use the bottomless, otherwise we had to pay per drink. Management confirmed.
So basically we were forced to buy and WASTE food that we didn’t want in order to continue having our bottomless, otherwise end up paying $ 12 PER DRINK, literally quadrupling our would be tab at the end of the meal. This was an HOUR later, at the table.
We don’t fucking eat that much!
Not only were these rules not told to us prior, but it was shady, and completely bullshit imo.

Sunny spot is my go to when I have a friend in town. I never get to the west side so when I finally get to that side I make sure the bottomless is the first stop on my list!!! Gives the perfect vibes a amazing music and friends chatting. The perfect experience for someone that is visiting LA!
They recently changed their menu which I was not aware of and at first was a little bummed that I couldn’t get the steak sandwich I was looking forward to BUT the new menu is out of this world amazing! I promise you if you have been here before the old menu has definitely been forgotten and the new menu takes the cake.
The favorite from the menu and your serves may agree with me is the hot chicken sandwich… (drops mic)
(picks mic back up) get the bottomless drinks! Unfortunately they are now putting a 2 hour max on it they are still worth it and with the new rule makes it a little easier to get a table if you are just a walk in. Definitely recommend making a reservation though!!!

Came here for a friend’s bday and truly enjoyed my experience! We had a large party (approximately 15 ladies) and the staff was very accomodating, adding more chairs and even tacking on a smaller two person table to fit everyone!
I went with the Benedict as my entrée almost purely because it was served on a biscuit rather than the standard English muffin! And I was so happy I did. The dish was great, the perfect amount of food.
I will say I think the bottomless mimosas/​bloody Mary’s are a tad bit pricey ($ 18!) but many could say that price is justified after just two drinks.
Overall I had a great experience at Sunny Spot and would recommend coming here for a more exotic/​unique take on your standard brunch fare.

This was an amazing brunch place!
We came here around 10:00 am to avoid the surge of prime brunchers that come-​in starting at 11:00-ish.
I ordered the following:
— avocado mash and chips
— short rib hash
— bottomless mimosas and sunny rum punch
The avocado mash was very good. However, I didn’t understand why they didn’t call it guacamole. It tasted exactly like guacamole. Also, the tortilla chips were the kind where corn tortillas are sliced and fried. They were very thick.
The short rib hash was amazing. There are great flavors happening in this dish. I would recommend if you want a little bit of everything (I.e. Carbs, leafy veggies, egg, meat). This dish can be a bit heavy in the stomach though. I ended up taking part of it to go.
Definitely get the AYCD option!

I came to Sunny Spot on a Saturday morning for brunch. I walked in with my boyfriend around 10:30am and the place was fairly deserted which was nice because we didn’t want to deal with a long wait. We walked up to the hostess stand where two girls were standing and I asked for a table for two outside, as there were about 8+ empty tables on the patio. The girl I spoke to turned to another woman who without a word shook her head no and without explanation the first girl turned to us and said «no.» No explanation no reasoning just a solid «No» It was extremely rude and off putting and started our meal on the completely wrong foot. No one bothered to explain to us why we were not allowed to take one of the EIGHT empty tables on the patio. We later overheard the hostess explaining to another party that they couldn’t sit outside due to lots of reservations. At least they bothered to explain to that party the reasoning. But still from start to finish of our meal no large parties showed up and no tables were taken outside. They could have EASILY accommodated our request.
In addition to the rude treatment by the hostess’ I ordered the huevos rancheros which was tasty but literally came with one egg. Its huevos not huevo rancheros… Overall the food was pretty good and our waitress was great but my boyfriend was adamant that we should never go back because of how rude the hostess’ were and I have to agree.

A carrot sauce? Way to think outside of the box.
The medianoche was so savory, and seasoned in a way that made me think of the holidays.
Now, something is missing with communication in the kitchen.
While seated, I had the same waiter approach me with the same salad twice within 20 minutes, asking if I had ordered it.
The joke was that if he had asked for a third, I’d say «yes,» and just eat it (it was a clear joke, but something really needs to be worked on in the back of the house).

Came here on a Tuesday night for a small event (Club Goin uPPpPpPPppPPpP) and meet with some friends and the place was packed – probably due to the event. The bar was well equipped with about 4 bartenders and a bar back. There were also waiters that come to your table. These bartenders took FOREVER. It wasn’t even like a –heyitssobusyicantgettoyourightnow– — the bartenders just looked tired and worn out. Not cute. After we got our drinks, it took another 10 minutes just for them to come around with the check too. AT THE BAR!
With that said, this place is cute and I’d love to try the food. Mixed drinks were meh and I had 4 of them – all different kinds. Definitely will stick to beer and wine here.

came here with a friend of mine for brunch, and we were told there will be a 30 – 45 minutes wait which seemed odd as more than half their tables were empty, we still decided to wait since we saw good reviews on Unilocal,but it went downhill from there, waiting staff was slow and seemed more interested in taking pictures and being in pictures than taking an order, chairs were very wobbly and uncomfortable, instead of napkins they give you rags, same ones you buy to clean the toilet with «disgusting»…
we order drinks, mimosa and Jamaican punch, mimosa seemed with out any champagne and punch tasted like gasoline, so bad that i had to return it, not only that the size of a drink that is $ 12 was like a shot glass so small
we were hungry so ordered their huevos ranchero bowl $ 16 and tortilla espanola $ 15 plus side order of bacon $ 5
huesvos ranchero was basically a dignified bowl of rice and black beens with 1 tiney pouched egg ITS CALLED huevos rancheros «sunny Spot» where are the eggs
the bacon was only 2 thin and tiney slices of bacon for $ 5 i can get a full plate else where with that

So I tried Sunny Spot for the first time last night… thanks to DineLA and the recommendations of friends and I was greatly pleased! Cute little hole in the wall with good vibes and laid back atmosphere (even though the music had you grooving). Now the food… They had THE BEST CEVICHE ever! And then the oxtail and rib dish (sorry I forgot the name) was tender and well seasoned. Very impressed. I heard their brunch is also something to be reckoned so I will be back!

OK… the first word that comes to mind when I was at Sunny Spot — POPPIN. Holy crap, I feel like I am at a day club brunch party! The ambiance was great, the music was ON POINT (I even witnessed a dance party break out), the room was packed, and I couldn’t help but notice that everyone was super good looking. I mean, after all, we are on the west side.
Hmm, why only 3 stars? There was just a series of unfortunate events that resulted in a not so great experience at Sunny Spot. Maybe I wasn’t drunk enough. They DO have an AYCD mimosa and bloody mary option for $ 18 that we opted out of, so maybe that’s why?
WHY SUNNY SPOT WAS JUST A-​OK FOR ME
— We checked in for our party of 3, and we were told it was going to be a 30 minute wait. We didn’t get seated until an hour later … ok ok ok, if a restaurant allows for reservations, take advantage of it. We didn’t decide on brunch til the night before, so it was too late. So fine, I will take fault for this one.
— When we got sat, no one greeted us or brought us waters (at the least) until more than 5 minutes later. I’ve worked at a restaurant before and we had to greet our tables within 30 seconds. When a table is waiting for more than an hour to get seated, they shouldnt have to wait more than 5 minutes to just get a greeting or a glass of water
— Since we waited so long to get seated, we knew exactly what we wanted to order when the server did greet us. Right when he stopped by to grab our drinks order, we told him what we wanted to eat also… we waited yet another 45 minutes for our food to come out. Around ²⁵⁄₃₀ minutes, our server told us our wait is on its way out… lo and behold, it takes another 15 – 20 minutes for us to actually get our food. The server felt so bad, he offered some chips & guac in the mean time. THAT took forever as well and for us to only find out that they were out of chips… we eventually got some basic fries on the house to fill our stomach until our food came out.
OOOOOK, so all this waiting, lots of it … maybe I am speaking out of hanger (when you are angry due to being hungry). That is totally possible!
— Food was just MEH. We ordered the huevos rancheroes, the breakfast sandwich and some other dish I don’t remember. When we told him we were ordering the huevos rancheroes he said «awesome! That is our most popular dish» … if this is the most popular dish, I am concerned. It was so basic, bland, I could’ve even made it at home. It’s like they didn’t even try.
I will say, the restaurant WAS busy. But if weekend brunches are going to be that busy, add more staff to the kitchen and tell your waiters to flip tables faster. Customers dont wait as long and waiters get more tables = more tips. It’s a win win and a no brainer.
I will give Sunny Spot one more shot. There were a couple other dishes that sounded good and we will opt in for the AYCD. Oh, and you can believe I will be making reservations this time around. I’m normally a HUGE fan of all of Roy Choi’s restaurants (Chego, Kogi truck, A-​frame, etc), but I was not impressed this time around.

Also, their food was pretty good. We came here for Saturday brunch and without a reservation, we were seated in 15 minutes. The restaurant is really cute and eclectic — a flurry of floral patterned bar stools, turquoise lawn chairs and tables packed really close to each other. It made it easier to see what everybody else was ordering but it also meant that with the loud music, conversation becomes a screaming match. Next time, I’d opt to sit outside.
I ordered the short rib hash which was delicious. Chunks of short rib strewn about in a mash up of hash browns and covered with two yolky eggs. It was a solid meal but not worth coming back for if Sunny Spot didn’t clearly hire a social media savvy exterior designer.

Came here & booked a reservation for my girl’s birthday, GREAT experience, good vibe/​music etc., they’ve switched up entire menu so most pictures you see on Unilocal they no longer have any if the Jamaican foods. But all in all great spot, can’t say enough good things about this spot

Came in for Brunch on a Friday (it was my birthday! woo hoo!). Not many places have brunch on Fridays, +1 for sunny spot. But this is was also a very unique brunch. Of course, you got your usual suspects: steak and eggs, pancakes, etc. But they also have a variety of unique caribbean style dishes like jerk chicken and the dish I ended up with: MOFONGOS. I really liked it! I love plantains — I eat them as chips, fried with coconut oil, pancakes, and as tostones. All delish! However, I wasn’t sure about how it would taste in a more «mushy» state. I have another plantain dish to add to my list now.
Birthday brunch could not be complete without a bottomless mimosa situation. The cool thing about their bottomless drinks is that they also offer a rum punch and bloody mary. So if you order their «bottomless» option, you can mix between any of the three options. This is a good thing because i am not sure if it was because it was the first meal of the day or they were that potent, but the rum punch really had a. um. punch. So I gladly went back to mimosas so I could finish off the birthday strong!
A couple of other things: ambience is great. It seems they have a nice happy hour and dj during weekend nights. Parking was valet only at their lot. I am not familiar with the area, but there seem to be some street parking.

Sadly I was a huge fan and patron of Sunny Spot. I have had events there and dined privately. I had booked a Holiday Party for my company there on December 10^th. Mind you I was in regular communication with the GM had visited the location, spoken with the head chef and the bar manager. I even have a confirmation for my event through open table.
Sadly, three days before our event, I got a call from the GM saying there was somehow an accident and they double booked. The only solution that was offered was to sit our group of 45 people, outside in 60 degree weather. It was beyond disappointing and unprofessional. It’s even more sad there was no offer to rectify the situation and no follow up from anyone who would do something.

I went this past week for DineLA, although our group dipped into the regular menu for appetizers. Our table decided to have a micro-​feast consisting of: The Ceviche which itself was pretty delicious but a little complicated to eat with the tortillas in both handling and quantity of tortilla for the table; Calamari which had a spectacular dipping sauce, & a friend decided to order the Butternut Squash soup with rosemary popcorn, very reminiscent to what A-​Frame does down the street, but in my personal opinion wasn’t as cohesive.
Three people at my table, including myself, decided to order the Skirt Steak which was fantastic! However upon looking at the menu a day later, I realized that my sides were completely different from the other two. Not that they were bad, but it’s advertised that the Skirt Steak includes a Yucca Mash with Chimichurri, however I received beans and rice. I wasn’t disappointed by any means but I am curious as to why the chefs made that decision. The grilled lobster with the sriracha butter was AMAZING.
The bartender was pretty accommodating and knowledgeable. When asking him what would be the one drink I should try seeing as how it was my first time, he asked me what my preferences was in terms of liquor, and ultimately made me an off menu drink. East Side Cocktail with a twist!
Overall I was pretty pleased with my experience here. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, the ambience is cosy, and the foods pretty good!

This is a mixed review… with it really being a 3.5 stars, but I knocked it down because of the overall prices (2 wings for $ 14, no way worth that price, so we didn’t order that, instead we did the Dine LA prefix). The other downside is, the non handicap seating inside the restaurant. On the other hand, the wonderful service we received from Amber made our dining experience pleasurable. She was attentive to our needs, very pleasant and friendly.
The food was above average in terms of flavor and presentation. My least favorite was the Cuban media noche. I think part of the problem was eating the pepper pot first made the Cuban taste bland. The meat inside the sandwich was plentiful, with a nice mixture of chicharon, cheese, pickles, pork, etc. I think a different bread would have made this dish perfect. The bread was a bit tough. I prefer a flakier crust and soft inside. 3 stars for the Cuban Media Noche. The beet salad was very tasty, there were three kinds of beets, each with distinct flavors that completed the salad of mixed greens, mangos, goat cheese and nuts (3 stars for the salad) the fried calamari was very good, it was fried in a light crispy batter and served with a dipping sauce, though I wasn’t excited about the dipping sauce, plain squeezed lemon juice would have been just fine. Lastly, the Pepper Pot was surprisingly tasty. I enjoyed both the oxtail and braised short rib. There was a nice smoky flavor throughout each bite. The meat was tender and cooked perfectly (4 stars).
Now, this place is Not good for handicap seating, unless you want to sit outside. Both my elderly parents who are not able to sit on high bar seats, had to sit outside on the patio. Don’t get me wrong, the restaurant has a lovely clean trendy look, it’s just not handicap friendly. The tables are small too, hard to manage food and drinks. It got quite hot outside, umbrellas would have been nice.
I would only recommend this place to the younger crowd.

The décor and atmosphere continues to be awesome. They’ve recently redone the menu and for the worse. The portions sizes are SMALL! The calamari had less than 10 pieces and for $ 14, that’s not cool. The burger, which used to be one of the best on the west side, has been changed to look and feel more like a Costco burger. The fries, which also used to be great, are now McDonald’s shoe-​string fries. Really a shame — not sure whether they are under new management or ownership or what.
The service from the bar is also dreadfully slow.
Do yourself a favor and hit up Scopa next door — you won’t be disappointed there.

3.5 stars is accurate. Went for brunch yesterday. The scene is cool — indoor touch to outdoor vibe. I had the huevos rancheros and it was ok, more like huevO ranchero. It was fairly small plate (smaller than expected/​as described to me). There was just one fried egg. overall, the dish was really salty and I am not a salt sensitive person. It had beans, too much basmati rice that didn’t mesh with the plate, cotija cheese, some salty sauce, and a tortilla that was a little too thick. I was expecting more from this place. The brownie with ice cream dessert was excellent though

My server was super chill. Didn’t forget to refill our bottomless mimosas, explained all of the menu items in great detail. He was very enthusiastic about the food there. Oh and their manager was extremely accommodating.
Music?
Hella eclectic. Eazy-​E and Disclosure were on the same rotation.
Crowd?
Mixture of hipsters of all shapes, colors, and sizes. There were some «Asian nerds, cool Asians… unfriendly black hotties… girls who ate their feelings and girls who didn’t eat anything…»
Overall cool vibes.

It gets really crowded on weekends for their brunch so come early if you don’t feel like waiting in line for 30 – 40 minutes. Personally, not worth it to me. plenty of other breakfast places down the street

Came by on a weekend when everyone comes for brunch and they were already so booked that only walk-​ins at the bar were available. The restaurant serves a twist on classic American brunch with Cuban/​South American dishes/​ingredients.
Highlights:
— Alcohol/​Boozy Brunch: I didn’t actually come here for the boozy brunch, but I definitely will. I ordered a bloody mary and it was definitely one of the best bloody mary’s I’ve had and to have that as bottomless??? Need I say more. They have a wide variety of tropical drink selections and they don’t jip you on the alcohol (you can actually taste the booze), so would definitely recommend coming here for drinks!
I had ordered the Muh FK’N Mofongoand it was okay… I was prewarned by the waitress that the dish was going to be more like a hash, which I love, but I was expecting the plantains to be crispy and give the dish a crunch, but it was more like a stew. I would not recommend getting, unless that is to your liking. I was also looking forward to the fusion type brunch, but I think I prefer my mornings to be simple with variations on the typical breakfast/​brunch meal (eggs benedict/​bacon/​french toast/​etc.). My suggestion, come here for boozy brunch and give the food a try, otherwise the wait to get seated and food isn’t really worth it.

i’ve been to Sunny Spot several times for their Happy Hour and to grab drinks and light bites. On my last visit, Roy Choi, was on site cooking! I was so excited to see him there and thought that it was very cool that he was still passionate about the food they are dishing out.
Service: I’ve only sat at the bar and the service is always great. They are polite, make great recommendations and great drinks. I will say that during my last visit a server grabbed the menu that I had by my purse to give to another patron. I thought this was rather rude since she didn’t ask if I was done with it. And secondly, the host stand was close to were I was sitting.
Food: The beet salad is not your typical salad. It was over the top amazing with a little bit of spice to it. I loved it! The jerk wings were great also. I would recommend stopping by for taco Tuesday and I’ve heard that Roy often stops in for those.

I know this place is a popular spot for brunch but we went during the evening for Happy Hour (4−7pm) after seeing an image of a Pina Colada. I’m a fan of the Pina Colada, though I am always joyful feeling like I am on vacation when in fact, I am not. My husband felt cheated because his beers had about 1.5 inches of foam on the top. Other than one large group, the place was empty on a Thursday evening.
The food was average and when our server had a lot of personality in a good way. Between 3 of us, we had the happy hour slider ($ 4), tacos (beef, pork, and mofongo) for $ 7, the beet salad, and the cuban torta with yucca fries. Cuban torta was awesome… but had a little spicy kick to it so avoid it if you don’t like spicy things. Yucca fries for the win.
It’s a different vibe but if you can’t get a seat at Scopa after waiting 75 minutes there, maybe you should check out Sunny Spot for some summer beverages and vintage décor.
