Ace Hardware Ventura

Nice to have a small owner owned hardware store close to home. I live right down the street and it is very convenient. The owner is awesome and his staff is always eager to help an usually greats me as I enter. I don’t think the negative reviews about not having experienced help. I think they do a good job at trying, there also mostly young people who appear to either be young high school or college students. And it’s nice to see someone putting these young friendly people to work.

We are so happy this ACE Hardware moved into Ventura and our Neighborhood. They always have everything I need for my home projects and more. If they don’t have an item or product I need the friendly staff is always willing to special order it for me. I recently learned that this particular store is family owned and operated which makes it a perfect fit for Ventura. Supporting local business owners is what our community is all about. Love this place for making my life easier!

I don’t think Daniel G is correct because I go to this Ace hardware often because I live right down the street and it is extremely convenient. I asked for replacement bolts often and a worker named Mason was helpful with finding me the exact bolt I needed quickly. Also I bought 2 smokeless fire pits for my patio and they gave me a good deal. I can’t speak for the other staff members but Mason is a solid help, ask for him when you go there if you’re really having trouble with the other employees.

I was so happy to see a hardware move into east Ventura and when they first opened it was a great addition to the area. I was in there spending money 2 or 3 times a week I liked the idea of not having to go to a big box store, Well like most good things it all comes to an end they fired all there experienced help and hired a bunch of kids. You would think a sales person working in the hardware business would know what romex wire, grade 8 bolts are well guess what these poor kids were more interested in playing with there phones than being of help. I gave them 3 chances and even talked to the owner about the quality of help and lack of knowledge about what they were trying to sale. I don’t even give that store a thought now it’s just to frustrating going in there when I wind up going else where for what I need anyway. I now drive 7 miles to a great hardware on the Ventura avenue they always have what I need and all the employees are very knowledgeable about all the store has to sale. Save yourself some valuable time and bypass the Ace hardware at Telegraph and Kimball.

I read the reviews below and it is unfortunate that their experience was not as good as mine. I have shopped at this Ace for years and have always found the staff to be very helpful and respectful. They have good knowledge of in-​stock items and general hardware needs.
I also recently went in to have paint mixed. I did not have any of the paint I needed so I used a swatch I had cut out of the wall. They scanned it and created a custom color to match. The color matched my existing wall paint perfectly. The staff was fast, helpful, and knew painting well.
It can be a real hassle to get paint mixed when you goto the big corporate owned chain stores like Lowes or Home Depot. This is not the case with this Ace. Very friendly and over-​the-​top attention to the customer.
The neighborhood is very happy to have this Ace.

I hate to say that I agree with the previous reviewer and found this ace hardware to be less than helpful. I usually like to go to Ace Hardware stores because they are independently owned and operated and generally have helpful staff. That is not the case with the store. I asked one of the staff members to help me find a simple eyebolt that seem to be out of stock in the display were I was looking — the person went away said it was probably in the tote coming from the truck today and then disappeared for 15 minutes. I later found him talking to another associate at the store and asked him if he had found the eyebolts. He said oh no — I looked everywhere and couldn’t find them. Was he going to tell me? I found a second huge display with the exact eyebolts I was looking for as I walked back to the painter area. The same associate also made me a quart of paint which he failed to close properly. It then got all over the inside of the bag and all of the other hardware that I bought that day. Thankfully it did not get all over the inside of the car or I probably would’ve been ready to drive the car through the front of the store. Sunday morning I came in to get paint and the associate opening the store said that it was a bad idea to come in right when they open because he can’t get to the paint machine. Really? How about you start opening the store earlier.

The customer service rep was very helpful and resolved an issuse quickly.

I usually really like ace hardwares since they’re independently owned/​operated and carry Kensington and Clark paint. However, the unknowledgeable and thoughtless staff at this Ventura store are a disappointment.
I came in for paint samples for two upcoming big interior paint projects. After finding the four shades I wanted and tracking down an employee to mix the samples, the employee didn’t label any of the sample cans with either the color name or code, and threw away the paint chips/​swatches I had given him. I would have asked for the chips back, but since the process of making the four samples took nearly a half an hour, I was in a different part of the store when he had finished, telling me he brought the cans to the register. So I realized this when I returned home and called to see if they have the colors mixed that day in their records or if the chips were lying around, and no on both accounts. So now if I want to find the shade name to order the paint, I have to make my own paint chips to then take back to the store and look through the hundreds of colors to find the correct color. What a backwards way of running a business and a giant waste of time.
Also the employee who made the paint samples couldn’t answer any of the painting questions I had and had no idea what painting terms like «cutting in» meant. I expect some kind of knowledge or attempt to ask a learned coworker, but I received a lot of «yeah, maybe, I guess» mumbling a from this kid. It made me feel like a gd pro at painting in comparison, which I am certainly not.
So perhaps the thing to do is go to this ace hardware, find the paint chips, leave, and have it color-​matched at Lowes or Home Depot.

I have visited Ace Hardware on a few occasions, I’m very thankful they opened a store in East Ventura. I have always been greeted by friendly staff who have made sure if I had found everything I was looking for. Although the store doesn’t have the inventory of a Lowe’s or Home Depot I have found most items I’ve been looking for. Parking is always available in front of the store and I don’t have to fight the traffic or waste gas at all the traffic signals trying to get to Lowe’s. Very happy Ace is in Ventura!

I am the least mechanically inclined person on this planet! Every time I go to Home Depot I buy the wrong thing and end up going back 10 times until I get it right. I went in to Ace and they helped me walk through my project and what I needed. I owner Chuck is the one that helped me. You gotta love a small business where the owner is out there helping you. I strongly suggest shopping at this Ace location these guys are nice and willing to help someone like me.

Let me start by saying this will be the first negative review I have written.
I am a member of Ventura Axxess. Companies use this as advertisement and most companies give a first time large discount followed by a continued business smaller discount. Ventura Ace Hardware’s page stated that they give a 25% discount on your entire first purchase. The fine print noted that only «In-​Stock» items” were eligible and some exclusions were listed but none of the items I wanted to purchase were listed in the exclusions.
Just to be sure, I drove the 10min to their store to ask if the «in-​stock» referred to «in store» or just «in-​stock» with ace hardware. The storefront is rather small so almost all of their medium/​large items are kept at ace warehouse and are ordered from them to the store. I was informed by their daytime manager that the 25% discount did indeed include items «in-​stock» at Ace warehouse and that it did not only apply to «in-​store» items. I was excited because I was in the market for a Rototiller which was an $ 800 item. The staff was very friendly which is why I have it listed as 2 stars instead of 1.
I informed them I was going to run home to browse their entire merchandise so that I could pick up some other things I would eventually need down the road as a new home owner. They had me write down all of the item numbers from their website to make it easier for them to order when I came back. After spending over an hour browsing their site, I came up with a list of 8 items I wanted including some higher dollar items like an outdoor shed and 2 electric trimmers.
I came back later that evening to place my order which was going to be about $ 2500 in total before the discount. A new checker was there so she asked one of the employees who had helped me earlier if everything had been ok’d for the axxess discount. The employee not only verified that the daytime supervisor had said yes, but that he had spoken with Chuck who is one of the owners and he had said «yes».
The order process took a few minutes and I kindly let a couple other customers go ahead of me knowing they would be quick and I would be awhile. Upon completion and awaiting payment the order amount didn’t seem right to me so I asked to see what was discounted. When we arrived at that page, all items were discounted except the tiller, and 2 power. The other 5 items were discounted at 25%.
They called Chuck to find out why that was and Chuck stated that «Power tools» were exempt from the discount. I brought in the book to show them their own add which did not have power tools listed as an exemption. After reading the fine print to him, he then changed it and stated that the discount only counted toward «in-​store» items. I told the cashier on the phone with him that all 8 items were not «in-​store» and that 5 of them were still discounted by their own computer system. I do not believe this was passed on as they made the decision then to have me come back the next day to talk to Chuck directly. Including drive time, I wasted 1hr & 15min on that trip alone. I went home very frustrated but confident that Chuck would help me the next day.
Chuck called me in the morning before I was able to get down there and was very friendly. He made the point that he couldn’t do 25% on the Tiller and trimmers because he would lose money. I said completely understood. He told me he could give me 10% off to which I replied that although nice, I could get 10% off at home depot or Lowes and that I would appreciate him working out something closer to the 1 time discount I should be getting as an axxess member. He had me email him the list of items so he could run some numbers and do a quote.
I received the quote and went from mildly frustrated to quite upset. He had discounted the tiller and 2 trimmers by 10% but had removed the 25% discount that I had received in store the previous evening and replaced it with 10% discounts on all items over $ 70. This actually increased to total cost above what I would have paid if I had placed the order the previous evening with no discount to the tiller and trimmers.
I considered emailing a reply with my displeasure but felt Chuck deserved a phone call. When I called him I was very nice and explained that I understood his position but felt that I was being jerked around as the price kept going up and up instead them working with me when I had been very patient. He was not rude but very course and simply informed me he didn’t have to give me any discount at all and that he didn’t think we’d be able to come to an arrangement and that I should have a nice day.
The entire time I never tried to hold him to his manager’s word, nor threw in his face that he had approved the axxess card discount with one of his employees. I wanted to be reasonable so that I could get a nice discount while making sure they received a profit. I feel as I was treated poorly, with a lack of integrity, will never do business there again.

Helpful. Got what I needed. Great customer service. No long lines or crazy parking lots.

Had to grab some chicken wire, a wrench and some flex tubing for the dryer. One stop shop and Brittney (sp) helped me in each area. Stoked could get everything done in 10 minutes!

Welcome to the neighborhood! Great place great service. I was working on a project and asked about a solution to an issue. Pat said he would look into it. A week later he called me with the solution… It worked… THANKS!

Great place. Nice folks. Helpful. Good prices. Exactly what the east end needed!
