Established in 1982 by double World Kart Champion Jim Hall II, the Jim Hall Kart Racing School is the longest-​running and most recognized karting school in America. Renowned for its champion-​building instruction and respected for its excellent safety record, Jim Hall Kart Racing School has taught over 40,000 students the art and science — not to mention the pure excitement — of motor racing.

Raised in the racing arena among such notables as Phil Hill, Brian Redman, Al Unser Sr. and Johnny Rutherford, Jim Hall II was practically preordained to spend his life at the track and in the cockpit. In his 30 years in the racing business he has worked as a race mechanic, served as vehicle designer and, most notably, excelled as a driver. Thanks to his skill behind the wheel and a technical approach to driving that relies not just on seat-​of-​the-​pants feel but equally on down to the traction-​circle analysis, Jim has garnered more than 250 first place trophies. He’s been Double World Kart Champion, Grand National Karting Champion and has collected multiple wins as a Formula Mazda driver.

Amazing! This is the only legit outdoor go kart place I can think of. The karts are well kept and the staff are super nice. The track is fun too and prices are competitive with the indoor karting places, which compared to Jim Hall Track Time is a waste of money!

Gentlemen waited until everyone signed the waivers until he told is that we needed to go to Walmart to get pants. The guys then decided that they wanted to tell our group who was racing against who (they only have 5 carts) We tried to break up the groups by skill level but they were not able to accommodate that. Overall I have been to several go kart tracks that were able to accommodate… This was not one. Also they don’t allow passing, how can you race go karts without passing one another RIDICULOUS

As a «thank you» to my hard working staff, I took them for an afternoon of racing at Track Time. Wow! I’m so glad I did. Everyone had a spectacular time. The smiles were ear to ear after runs on the track.
The karts were fast but felt really safe. We raced in groups of 6 or 7 and the few bumps and spin-​outs just made the racing more exciting. The track was wide open with long straightaways where you could really gain some speed before heading into both tight and technical turns as well as high speed esses. Everyone in the group who had been to indoor kart tracks said this was way better.
Everyone can’t wait to go again!

I would love to say that I had the opportunity to take part in this but, I can’t. My wife got me a gift for Father’s Day to attend the course spending hundreds of dollars. Before I had a chance to use the gift, we moved out of State for my work. I called up and spoke with a woman who flat out refused to reimburse or partly reimburse for the course. When asked why the «NO REFUND» policy wasn’t on the Gift certificate or when asked if someone had a medical problem which prevented them from attending the course, she couldn’t answer. She FLAT-​OUT refused to give any refund, even though it didn’t cost the Company any expenses, and then hung up on me when I kept asking questions.
I’m sure the course would have been a blast but geez, would it hurt to do the right thing?

Bad business practice, bad karma! These guys signed up a mentally impaired family member of mine for $ 250 worth of kart racing. This is someone that doesn’t even have a drivers license! When my family member didn’t show up, because he doesn’t even remember signing up, Jim Hall company refused to refund the money. This is a case of taking advantage of vulnerable people! What a rip off.

Walked by this when going to the pier and had to stop and check it out. This was my first experience on a outdoor karting track and it was pretty good. Track has alot more grip then the indoor tracks i have raced at in the past and the karts didnt seem underpowered.

A bit expensive for karts. You could get two races for the same price in TO. Gas karts were a lot of fun, very peppy. They had to be convinced to open up the larger track, which is a lot better than the short track.

Outdoor karts, open passing, and discounted weekday pricing add up to lots of fun for racers and those looking to have some fun afternoon karting action. The karts are faster than the electric karts you may find other places. Racing on an outdoor track has a better feel than racing indoors.
All the safety equipment is provided — helmet, gloves, and racing jacket if you need it. There is no age requirement, just a minimum height of 4’6″ height requirement (so you can reach the pedals). Each track session is 7 minutes long. At the end of your sessions you get a print out of each lap time. Your best lap is compared against the other drivers best lap and you are ranked in the heat you drove in. You can track your best times and overall score online as well. This is useful if you come here a lot and want to see yourself move up the charts.

The track is currently located in the parking lot at Seaside Park in Ventura. At first I was a little skeptical of driving around in a parking lot, especially having been to their previous location in Oxnard. I have to say, once you try it, the parking lot track isn’t all that bad and I bet you’ll like it a little better than you thought you would.
Jim Hall Track Time is fun and I would definitely go again. I have also been to Jim Hall Kart Racing School 3 times. The karts are track time do not compare to the racing school, but are still lots of fun, and a lot more affordable. Just for comparison, my best time on the full track with the sodi karts used at track time was 31.76 seconds. Using the sprint karts at the racing school I got down to 27.77. So even though the sodi karts are slower, they are still lots of fun.

no way id go back. I expected the class to be at an actual track not a parking lot with cones. track was very small and the drills were the most basic. there was no race technique discussed. the classroom time was suited for 6 year olds first time karting not grown adults wanting to learn to race, the karts were underpowered and slow.

Without a doubt a great experience. Jim actually taught our class and I later found out that this was not thecase all of the time. Even if Jim doesn’t teach your class the other instructors Jake, Chaz & Homer are awesome. They are very attentive, knowledgable, really into racing and want to help you become a better driver. I attended the 2 day class with my 21 year old son who not only had the best track times (36.5) of our group but had a smile on his face from 8:30am til 4:00 when we left.

I got to attend the Jim Hall School a few years back and it was a ton of fun. I wish I could do more, but it is just too expensive right now for me.
The track and karts were awesome, the instructors we had were friendly, knowledgeable, fun and enjoyable… the whole day out there was great.

Jim Hall and crew is AMAZING at what they do! It was so much fun and such a great day to be out on the track though I must admit I was a little nervous! I went with my husband for something fun to do that was a little different and it was great to be outside, and in such a unique area.
I did feel safe the entire time and was well educated on how to drive and work the carts. You can tell safety is a top priority there which is great. The entire staff was welcoming, fun and easy to work with and calmed my nerves!
Out on the course, the carts were fast, fun and easy to use! The course is really fun and it’s nice to be outdoors and enjoying the weather while zipping around the turns. They really take care of you from start to finish here and the larger track made the time we were out there fly by.
What a great experience! Thanks Jim Hall and everyone for making the day so much fun for us!

Apparently, taking an AWESOME ultralight flight along the coast with Sky Rider Ultralight in Camarillo is not enough thrill seeking for DG and I in one day. Because on the way back from that awesome experience, we passed this race track and HAD to stop for just one quick race!
We signed in at the front desk, and then got outfitted in
Face covers
Helmets
Gloves
Jackets
Neck rolls
before we walked out to the waiting go carts.
A quick run down of the flags (yellow for be more careful, checkered for the end of the race), and the gas and brake pedals, and we were off!
The track is the biggest I’ve ever seen, and considering the carts go up to 40mph, we were flying!
Taking corners got easier with each lap (11 laps and then a cool down slow one for each race), so I learned how to accelerate into it by the 3rd lap or so. I couldn’t catch up to DG, but reading our printouts post race showed that I wasn’t too far behind him!
The prices here make it super affordable to come and race whenever we’re in the area

I just wish they let you split the race packages between more than one driver: /​.
They also have a school that teaches you how to race the even faster shifting carts, neato!

Jim Hall is where its at, PERIOD.
I love karting, especially places where I can just go for a day. I’ve been to Dromo1 in Orange (unfortunately they’re no longer there), MB2 in Sylmar, and Jim Hall in Ventura.
Jim Hall has hands down the best karting of those places. An outdoors course with gas-​powered karts is how karting should be! Highest average speed and best feedback through the steering wheel compared to the other two.
I’ve also been to Jim Hall’s Day 1, 2, and TAG classes, and each have taught me valuable lessons on going faster in a kart, and even a little bit in road racing. If you have the cash to throw down for TAG, I highly recommend it — those karts will beat you, HARD, in a «*@&$* that was fast» kind of way.
Price? $ 60 for three races. I try to do that because Ventura is a drive from where I live in the SF Valley, and if you compare this rate to other places ($ 23/​race for non-​members at MB2, and Dromo1 same price) I’d gladly make the drive out to Ventura. Sure MB2 has member rates (I believe $ 18/​race), but I’ll pay that extra $ 6 to go to Ventura with gas-​powered karts rather than electric ones. Also knowing that they can’t slow you down from a remote control helps. (cough no excuses cough)
The staff are 100% professional. Those helping out are usually racing in the LAKC karting series division 7 (aka the best division) and will usually gladly give tips! If you want to do something fun go here.
Parking is plenty — they have their own dedicated lot.

Wow! What a great time! These seem much faster than the electric carts at MB2 indoor raceway. Also the larger track is much more fun! 0 – 60 in 4 seconds and a top speed of 40 MPH in these little things is a great experience! Also, it was great to run at the same time as my 10 and 12 year old. It was a great bonding experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The other racers where also great! Everyone was respectful of each other and shared the same love for racing that we did!
Jim Hall, Jr., operates the Jim Hall Kart Racing School. This guy grew up in the racing business! During the 1960s, Jim’s dad, Jim Hall Sr. competed in Formula One from 1960 to 1963, participating in 12 World Championship Grands Prix and numerous non-​Championship races. Jim Hall Sr. was part owner, with Hap Sharp, of Chaparral Cars. Chaparral cars were the most innovative cars in racing. Jim Hall Sr. had two wins in the Indianapolis 500 in 1978 and 1980

The two other reviews do a pretty great job of explaining the experience. The go-​karts are none that I have ever been in. They are fast and they are a lot of fun to drive! The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly loved what they did. There weren’t any high school or college kids trying to make some money during the summer, these were professionals that really gave you a full experience.
They do more than just let you drive. They take you through the course, give you tips, give you hand-​signals, and really make you feel like a racer. Everyone I went with improved on their times dramatically (some even cut their times in half). So the lessons were clearly working.
And Jim Hall was very involved himself. He was actually there teaching classes and answering questions.
Now, I know this place is pricey, and I was fortunate enough to be taken here by my company. So I don’t know if this is affordable to do on your own. But if you have the chance, it is an amazing experience. I really hope to be back again!
