We came in on New Year’s day, «we» meaning about 15 of us all at once. The handled this very well bringing almost all our food out more or less at the same time and it was all hot and had not been sitting under the food warmer forever. Service is fantastic, friendly with a smile, attentive, and very accommodating. Food: On the recommendation of a friend, I had the chile verde plate(although she recommended the burrito. I’ll get to that). The chile verde is DELICIOUS! The meat was so tender and juicy, not dry at all. It is in a really beautiful tomatillo sauce that you can tell is homemade,(very similar to mine). It is so tasty with just the right amount of tang, consistency, and enough to cover each bite and maybe to drink it off the plate when finished, it’s that good! If you get the burrito, get the wet version, because you get more of that delicious verde salsa. The chips are very fresh, there table salsa is fantastic as well. Just a little bit of chunk, not completely pureed or overly chunky, and just a wee bit of spice. Pretty perfect even for those who don’t like much or any spice, but enough for those who do on the lower spectrum. They have habanero salsa too, if you can deal with it! Happy hours specials are fantastic, super cold refreshing beer and great prices to go along with the wonderful food. Bottom line, this might be a new favorite staple in Ventura of mine. I will most certainly be back many times.

I have been going here for over a year, and quite often. But recently something has changed, long waits on forgotten order, and just tonight, cold food on what we were told was a hot dish. Then we ordered a taco w corn tortilla, and it came w flour!!! After all that only a 15% discount on the meal. So sad.

La Parrilla has fantastic food at a wonderful price! The waiter was very friendly, the chips and salsa were delicious and the entrees were even better! We have been there for breakfast and dinner and the food never disappointed. I just heard they have the best Chile Rellenos in Ventura, I wouldn’t know as Chile Rellenos are not my favorite, but my Husband loves them and will be trying them the next time we go here.

Great food and great service. The waitress on Sunday is always very pleasant and kind. The Lemon Butter chicken and the margarita chicken and vegetables are both so delicious.

My friend and I were on our way back from Solvang, and since I went to school in Ventura, we decided that’s where we would stop to have lunch. She was feeling like Mexican, so we found this place on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. We should have known that it wouldn’t be that great when we walked in to only two customers in the entire place. That could be because it was raining, but who know. The waitress pointed out some of their signature dishes, so we decided to give the Panuchos and Cochinita Pibil a try. For the Panuchos, we think they may have forgotten to give her the sauce for them, because otherwise they were very bland, lacked any flavor, and she had to douse them in salsa. As for the Chochinita Pibil, if it wasn’t for the pickled onions they sprinkle on top, it would lack all flavor. I must say that with the food so bland, the salsa(and chips) were the best part of the meal.

Another day, another breakfast burrito review in the eastern half of the Midtown Ventura area. La Parilla is more of a café/restaurant than you’re standard taco joint. Located a stones throw from Ventura College in an old fashioned suburban strip mall, casually nondescript, one might not expect it to be there. I had never been so they became the 3rd restaurant to lend a hand in my «Best Breakfast Burrito in Ventura» hunt. Like I noted previously, they are more of a small restaurant and I can imagine they have table service during the evenings and weekends. I landed in not too long after they opened, on a weekday, so I ordered at the register counter and waited. The staff was friendly and my wait wasn’t long, I don’t mind an extra minute or two for the kitchen to craft the almighty breakfast burreet. The total was $ 8 and change, no chips. They have some great roasted salsas and I could see the flakes of char amidst the green and red varieties, excellent. The red salsa is bomb! Neither are too spicy, but the flavor is deep. I had the bacon burrito but was confused on what exactly came inside; ultimately, mine had hash browns and eggs(I’m writing this days after eating it, so I think I recall white cheddar cheese in there, too). The menu said it came with rice and beans, but the cashier said I had a choice of whatever, and since I don’t prefer r&b in breakfast burritos, I just went with hash browns. The burrito is nicely sized, not greasy, and the eggs were omelette consistency — fluffy and encompassing. The red salsa went very well with it. I enjoy trying new spots and La Parilla didn’t disappoint. On a scale of 5 chingons, this breakfast burrito gets a 4. It’s a quaint little joint relegated to ‘neighborhood’ status due to its non-touristy location, but it’s a good place to know that exists! I’ll be back for dinner sometime.

My friend, Michael Ward, suggested we eat here for lunch today. It’s near Ventura College which is plus for us. The service and food was excellent! I’m not sure of evening prices but the lunch menu is really a bargain. Two items with rice and beans at $ 6.95. You get waiter service and real plates and silverware. Most places at this price, the food isn’t as good and you end up with a mountain of disposable trash that will sit in a landfill till way after you’re gone. So, here at La Parrilla, you get good prices, great food, wonderful service and you leave feeling good about real dishes(no trash).

This place just keeps getting better, from the food choices to the ambiance. I’m currently hooked on the fish tacos. Beer — battered fish inside soft corn tortillas with crunch cabbage and a really tasty dressing. The recipes are all family recipes, which I love. Also, I can tell each time I have lunch there it seems they are busier and busier! People are seeing how good(and affordable) it is, and going back. They also have a fresh, clean white board with tonight’s specials for dinner listed… the salmon sounds delish!

The Waiter was TERRIFIC. Unfortunately, the food was a disappointment! My husband’s favorite meal in a Mexican restaurant is Carnitas, so of course, that is what he ordered! First remark was that it was kinda greasy, but the seasoning was good. When he went for the second bite, his fork came up with carnitas vulcanized to aluminum foil! That’s all it took, for him. I had the shrimp(ceviche) tostada, and it was good, like a ceviche tostada is supposed to be. But I also ordered the the chicken panucho, the chicken was shredded breast(?) that tasted like dry straw! I also ordered a side order of their«homemade» tortillas — I wouldn’t have been so proud had I been the management! They would have benefited from the use of a tortilla press since the thickness was so uneven that you got either a mouth of leather or burned cardboard– neither of which had seen the benefit of salt or seasoning! Normally, I make it a practice to make two visits before filing a negative report, but in the case of LaParrilla, I will make an exception. Don’t waste your time! There are plenty of places that are MUCHBETTER, even some taco trucks far exceed LaParrilla! But like I said, the waiter was really good, and I hope he can find a new place, especially if his livelihood is dependent on his tips from this place!

I went to La Parrilla for Taco Tuesday, $ 1.00 tacos. I’m typically quite picky with my Mexican food. As usual, the food and service were on point. I think I found my new Tuesday lunch spot. I highly recommend La Parilla. They have something on the menu for everyone.

I try there Sopa de Lima, Tamales & Panuchos. It has definitely Yucatan homemade flavor, & it sure is 5 star for offering authentic Yucatan dishes. It made me think of Yucatan!

La Parrilla is absolutely excellent. The shopping center it is located in is not the most attractive; however once you go inside you will not be disappointed! The family that runs it is amazing, always very friendly and willing to give recommendations. Favorite items: Cochinita pibil, phenomenal. Juicy and flavorful, not something you will find anywhere else. A little greasy, but all the best foods are. Pollo y mole, phenomenal. One of the best mole sauces I have ever had, period. chipotle chicken, phenomenal. The chipotle sauce is so light and wonderful. Panuchos, super yummy. Get them with a side of the chipotle cream sauce to make them phenomenal. Go here. Just go. Right now.

This is a really nice little place that has some very tasty food! The service was exceptional. This is a nice little family restaurant that serves delicious meals. Krishna described it to me as: «like grandma used to make.» Since the Yucatan is the area of South America where his family is from he would know! Delicious! I can’t wait to go back and try more! Wish I had more time to spare and more room in my tummy! I tried a couple of items… Next time I’ll try some more and update my review with more photos!
