Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar

Met Bill who is a server at Prime, he sold me on his restaurant. We will have dinner there next time we come to Ventura. Thank U Boll for taking the time to chat with me.

Food was delicious! We came for happy hour, which goes until 8 or 9, ridiculous! The wines and beers were reasonably priced and tasted good. We had the baseball steak salad, the bacon wrapped scallops and the bacon wrapped dates (my personal favorite). The steak was particularly flavorful and juicy. My favorite part was the staff and atmosphere. When we got there it was pretty early and held what appeared to be the patrons all enjoying traditional drinks. As the night went on, the place quickly became filled with all ages. They also play Seinfeld in the bathrooms. I mean. it’s hidden in location and a little discrete in appearances but don’t let that fool you. This place is a must!

Place was really good. They have a 4 course special for $ 29 which includes an appetizer, salad, entrée, and side (you get bread and butter as well). The prime rib was very tasty and the smokey six mac n cheese was truly amazing.
I don’t really see why people have complained about the service. I did have to wait a few awkward minutes at the front door, but once the bartender came out from the back it was a wonderful experience. She was very friendly and personable, she made some great recommendations and the food came out very timely and tasty.

On the fly, I decided for us to go to Prime for a late dinner last night. After receiving an ad in the mail for the Prime Dinner Special of $ 29 for a 4-​course meal, I said why not plus I was craving prime rib so here we are…
The Restaurant is located on Thompson in Midtown. Parking is available along the street or in a little lot nearby. We walked in around 8:15p and saw that the restaurant was somewhat busy; since there wasn’t anyone at the front podium we proceeded towards the bar to be greeted. Nobody helped us, so we went back to the front hoping someone would acknowledge us and get us seated. A gentleman, who we saw sitting at the bar having a drink ended up greeting us and gave us a mini introduction ’bout the restaurant. He also gave us the option of where we would like to sit, so we chose the room with the live music– the live music alone truly made our visit very enjoyable.
Our server Jade was sweet and gave great recommendations. It did take a while for us to initially put in our orders because she had multiple tables tables but once the order was placed it was as though the food just coming out.
The hubs and I opted for what Prime is known for, which is their «Prime Experience» consisting of 4 «courses»:
1^st Course: 1 appetizer
2^nd Course: 1 salad
3^rd Course: 1 main entreè
4^th Course: 1 signature side
My Prime Experience:
1^st Course: Black Mussels-​10 (very small) mussels cooked in a creamy sweet white sauce.
(3 solid stars)
2^nd Course: Steak Wedge Salad– A huge iceberg lettuce cut in half smothered in blue cheese, sprinkled with red onion and bacon bits. This was massive, in fact neither of us finished even half so a lot was wasted and I HATE wasting food. (2.5 solid stars)
3^rd/​4^th Course: Signature Prime Rib, cooked medium rare with peppercorn sauce and sautéed Brussels sprouts with bacon bits. My prime rib was absolutely gorgeous before my disaster… I squeezed a couple lemons over my steak, then when I grabbed the Tabasco, there was not a stopper on the bottle and almost ¼ of the Tabasco drenched my steak! Not okay!!!
*Why the F did the Tabasco not have a stopper on the top of it!!! Needless to say I had to wipe all the excess Tabasco from the Steak-​also having to wipe the juice making my steak immediately cold and distasteful. The Brussels sprouts had a weird plastic/​wasabi after taste so I couldn’t eat those either. It was just a hot mess all around.

My husband’s Prime Experience:
1^st Course: Tuna Tartar (3.8 stars)
2^nd Course: Steak Wedge Salad (4.2 stars) — he loves blue cheese
3^rd/​4^th Course: Filet Mignon ($ 10 extra) and Mac n’ Cheese. This was not the smoky Mac n’ cheese from the menu, because they ran out of that-​so the chef created an «on-​the-​fly» Mac. The filet was very rare so we asked them to flash it a couple times. The 2^nd time around it was still more on the rare side, but before than the first time. (Filet, 4.3 stars, Mac 2.5 stars)
Overall, the restaurant is cute and gives off a very classy, Frank Sinatra vibe. We really enjoyed the live music! Don’t feel intimidated to wear a suit and tie here for dinner, but this is truly a great date night spot. The lighting is very dim and romantic.
We may return to sample items from the Happy Hour Menu, so stay tuned… but for steaks we’ll continue to go to Wood Ranch.

Was recommended this place by a coworker and after reading Unilocal reviews decided to give it a try.
Service– Waiter was very polite and informative but slow to bring out each course– which is why I gave it four stars
Food– Fantastic. We ordered the Chili Relleno, Filet Mignon and Mac and Cheese and everything was delicious.
My boyfriend even brought his employees back here for their holiday dinner.

I took a group here for the experience of some very great food and to hear their «Frank Sinatra». The food did not disappoint nor did the entertainment.
The problems came at the end of our evening. Our server was the manager and explained the way their advertisement worked with the 4-​course meal. First it was good for groups of 4. Then because so many wanted to use one he decided to take $ 40 off for the group, and we were getting separate checks so $ 5 off for 8 of us but one attendee got $ 10.00 off. Then the service charge appeared twice on the print out and he had to explain that it really was only added once. So much confusion. So I, and others, came in expecting the $ 39 menu would be $ 29, then at the end it was more than the original $ 39! Mine was $ 49! Another couple just wanted to share one and their bill was over $ 100! You know, after their yummy cocktails and a long day it was almost hopeless to try to understand what had gone on. I have heard back from many of the others in the group that they had been «ripped-​off».
Sorry Prime. Please get your story together so that others can avoid such a mess at the end of an otherwise lovely evening.

Yuk… Just yuk!
From beginning to end. Sad since it was our first visit. Lobster tail was cold and soggy, filet mignon was over loaded with pungent rosemary, barely palatable. Cocktail appeared to have curdled cream in it, very funky taste, not to mention the gray scalloped potatoes, also appeared as though they’d been made days before. Service was excellent, but food was terrible and there’s nothing that great service can do to fix that.

I made a reservation on Unilocal on December 4^th for 6pm on December 18^th to have a christmas dinner with my girlfriend as that was going to be the only day we would be able to spend together around christmas time. Personally, I was looking forward to this dinner as i’ve been wanting to try this place out for quite a while now.
I just received a call from someone at this restaurant informing me that the reservation i made about two weeks ago is cancelled by this restaurant, because some company had rented the place out for an office party.
I specifically asked the guy on the phone if the company had rented the place out prior to my reservation and he said yes. He offered to reschedule my reservation for another day, but i work 6 days a week and i had finally gotten a friday off of work so that i could have a nice dinner here with my significant other.
I don’t understand how this restaurant can have the whole place booked before i made my reservation on december 4^th, and they decide to call me the day before my reservation to inform me that they’re cancelling my reservation. That is horrible customer service. If the whole place was actually booked before i made my reservation they should have called me at least a week before my reservation so that i can make a reservation somewhere else instead of leaving me hanging the day before my reservation. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone as from my experience this place has food that looks amazing, but their customer service is horrible. They call me the day before my reservation to tell me it’s cancelled even though the whole place was booked before i made my reservation? If they can’t follow up on Unilocal reservations or are going to cancel immediately in these types of situations maybe they shouldn’t allow people to make reservations on Unilocal.This is ridiculous and the customer service is horrible.

For an elegant night out, or for a happy hour with friends at the neighborhood bar, Prime covers it.
The front bar has a nice neighborhood bar feel, and a lot of the regulars do walk in from their nearby homes. The happy hour deals are tempting. $ 6 martinis, $ 4 wine and $ 7 small plates. Great place for meeting pals and catching up over drinks and tapas.
Deeper in, the dining room is elegant and warm. The service is attentive and professional. The food is delicious and well presented. The 4 course meal at $ 29 (with coupon) is a great deal. Prime is known for its prime rib, which has never disapointed me.

In spite of the fact that they had two big Christmas parties tonight, we were treated like royalty. When our appetizers were delayed by the fact that one of the big parties had just ordered three entrees, our waiter (Brian) refilled our wine glasses gratis to hold us over. The food was excellently and beautifully prepared. This place really knows the meaning of the word service. This is our third visit here and we will definitely come back!

So, my date and I came to Prime on a Saturday night to have a cute ~fancy~ dinner. Get out of the house, give me an excuse to buy a new dress — that sort of thing.
We had a complete blast.
Let’s start with the entertainment: my girl Frieda on the mic was so great. Really set the mood for our candlelit dinner. We had some matching floral dresses on, so I knew it was fate. She even came over to our table and crooned at us for a bit, which made me feel particularly special. I’m sure it had something to do with our shared, incredible fashion sense.
Our server Bill was the worst. He was so friendly, ew. He like, was always checking up on us, ugh. After our food came, he asked us how everything was — like, really? I come all the way out here from Oxnard, working all day picking organic strawberries, to be harassed by the attentive wait staff?
Just kidding!
Bill was so amazing. We had a great time, and he made us feel so comfortable as it was our first online,
date. (See? That’s how much fun we had — my and my date officially have inside jokes with Bill)
Oh, also food was to die for. We did the Unilocal check-​in for the 4 course meal and I am so glad we did. I had the Salmon and it was cooked SO perfectly.
Overall, 5 stars. It all fell together so perfectly. And with the food as good as it is, and with people like Bill and the band taking care of customers. home run.

Don’t you just hate it when you love something so much & then the thing you loved gets mucked up by bad management.
Upon my first visit with my lovely Unilocalers, we had our check split 3 ways. We each got our bill, and I was not Beyond comprehension to see that my total was a little over $ 19, I signed the merchant cc receipt and placed a cash tip with it.
It took 3 days for it to be debited from my bank account and when it was it was for $ 29.88. First I emailed them directly through their website, then the same day I went into Prime after work and the hostess who was very sweet apologized and took me to the back of the restaurant where I’m assuming the female bartender was In charge and she made it abundantly clear I was cramping her style by saying in a rather accusing voice «did you call?» Hey, why am I being made to be the villain when I was the one overcharged? She then proceeded to tell me I was going to have to wait because she was busy and then ignored me for the next 10 minutes, the hostess was very apologetic, I wrote out a lengthy note to the manager explaining I had also emailed them regarding this matter and that I had the customer copy of the receipt.
I received a call the next day where again the woman was less than happy to be talking to me, saying they never got any email and they show no record of my bill at all except the 29.88 signed by the other person in my party and then another receipt with the same persons signature except someone else wrote it, I was told that they would have to talk to the server & get back to me… Well, come the frick on, it’s going on 2 weeks and you cannot reimburse me $ 10.53 are you that hard up for money or a tip you need to play with your customers?
Truly irate and disappointed, I really liked Prime but I’ll be damned if I’m going to be screwed over.
I loathe giving bad reviews, but what I loathe more is being swept under the rug like some errant child. Maybe it’s just $ 10.53 to you, but I work damn hard for my money and it’s mine to choose to spend, not your choice to spend it for me!

Prime steakhouse was recommended by a good friend of ours to go to for our anniversary dinner and we didng go wrong by going here! They have this Unilocal check in promotion where you can get $ 10 discount out of your best prime rib 4 course and it is really great! From course 1 to course 4 everything was excellent! And i would like to commend our server RYAN/​BRYAN. Best server ever! Since i got here in America i never seen a server as great as him! Hes so knowledgable with everything and always checks on us if everythings ok and gave us the best suggestions and it was all great! All in all we had a GREAT time in here. I super duper recommend it!

This is my absolute favorite restaurant in Ventura. The location, food, and service are perfect.

Tuna tartar, wedge salad, and filet.
It is amazing. I will say that we do seem to have out best experiences on Saturday nights. The live singer really pulls it all together for a great date night.

On the food has never let us down here.

For starters I had Avocado roll w cheese & homemade Thai sweet chili sauce. Really rich in taste while it has its rustic crunch on the outside to balance out the palate. Amazing! Must try!
Followed by Black Mussels. The mussels are really fresh but the gravy is a tad bit too sweet for my liking.
For mains I had the signature Ribeye. 16 oz, perfect size. Cooked to perfection. Fats render on the side and in the middle of the meat. Makes every mouth feels like heaven!!!

We went to Prime steakhouse for my birthday with really good friends and we had a fantastic meal. Our friends had the Chilean sea bass and salmon and we had the prime rib and salmon and everything was excellent. The appetizers were delicious. We always get the tuna tartare and chile relleno and they did not disappoint. They even brought me a birthday cheesecake. Our service was excellent and we love the ambience. Great place for romantic dinner or with friends.

This was my second time at Prime, both times on vacation in Ventura. The Best of Prime deal is a real steal, when you get a full 4 course meal for $ 39 (or $ 29 if you check in on Unilocal). This is the run down on the meal;
Bread: delicious, they serve it with an herb butter that really hits the spot
First course: the crab stuffed mushrooms were meh, the crab was tasty but the mushrooms had a very overpowering flavor. Id recommend the chili relleno, so amazing and flavorful
Salad: the caprese was good, with delicious buffalo mozzarella and a pesto and balsamic glaze. The tomato however, was not ripe enough, and didn’t have much flavor. The Caesar salad is a hit though, your pretty standard Caesar with just the right amount of dressing.
Main course: the filet was buttery and delicious (although $ 10 more), and the prime rib was also hearty and served with salty au jus
Sides: smokey Mac and cheese and garlic mashed potatoes so goooood
Overall, not the best food I’ve ever had, but a pretty solid, and affordable nice dinner

What was I thinking? 3 stars? This place is 5 stars all the way!!! I’m actually embarrassed that I only gave them 3 stars before. I love the happy hour. I’ve had every item and I especially love the relleno, prime rib tacos, nachos, the wedge. I especially love their Sauvignon blanc on happy hour. I’m also embarrassed to say that I’ve never had a prime rib here. I need to change that! Oh and all the staff is amazing! Especially Matt and Kristina!

The vibe here is cool. There are TV’s in the restroom and a guy singing «Sitting in the Park» in the dining room. What’s not to like? You can even check in on Unilocal and get your four course meal for only $ 29…leaving you with enough spare cash to show off with a bottle of wine. Playing the devil’s advocate… Can you get more, possibly better tasting food at Black Angus for less, yes, but this is a better place for a date. The food wont blow her socks off but you’ll get bonus points for classiness.
Getting down to details… I started with the Prime House Salad, it was standard. My wife had the Caesar but the dressing was too fishy for our liking. For appetizers we had the tuna tartare and the bacon wrapped scallops. The tuna tartare came with chips, which to me is like taking your cousin to prom. I mean there’s nothing wrong with hanging out with your cousin but can I get a damn crostini around here?!? As for the scallops, I’m usually easy to please but these were just too sweet. The main dishes were solid though. My wife had the salmon and Brussels sprout and I had the steak and baked potato. Unfortunately, my steak was medium well instead of medium rare like I ordered but it was still tasty. I would’ve sent it back but I was with a large party and didn’t want to be the last one eating.
Try it or Diet Final Word
I will definitely try it again. The overall experience was positive and I’ll have to give the food another try. Good date spot plus any place with TV’s above the urinal deserves your support.
