Rhumb Line Restaurant

They are under new ownership and management. It’s a completely different experience now. I believe the new owners are experienced and own several successful restaurants. I wanted to make sure it was consistent before I posted a good review. I have been 3x in the past 2 weeks.
Service was great. Explanations of the specials how they are prepared and recommendations. Management stopped by our table all three 3x’s. We ordered the shrimp scampi appetizer, special strawberry goat cheese summer salad and filet mignon and the halibut. Everything was cooked to perfection and timed nicely.
We had the Babich New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and the New Zin on the menu. So good. Ventura people please come back and tell them Alisha from the keys sent you. They will give you the royal treatment We have waited to long for this place to et it together. The views cannot be beat and now the service and food match the spectacular view. Cheers to the new owners and management! Bravo!

I just love this place! Every time I come to visit this area, I make sure to stop by! Their patio is dog friendly, considering that your dog is well behaved. And, the view is one of the best in all of Ventura/​Oxnard! The service is always wonderful with the most friendly waiters & waitresses. And, the food is always amazing. The crab cakes are delicious… A work of art! And, so was the special that I had today for the first time! Halibut with risotto! Beautiful and delicious! What more can you ask for?

Halibut was probably the best I’ve ever had. Peach salad was amazing. Great service. Had table at the window looking out at the harbor. Couldn’t have been nicer. Great restaurant!

My fiancée and I went to this charming spot tonight and had an excellent meal in a beautiful setting. A friend had suggested it otherwise I would not have known this location on the marina. We enjoyed a bottle of prosecco and watched the sun begin it’s descent into the Pacific. Our starters were a very well seasoned rendition of clam chowder and a very good wedge salad. This version had red onion in it which I really liked. Our entrees were a fantastic halibut special and a duck breast and wing combo. Both excellent. We didn’t have dessert (bubbles were the dessert!) :-)
Our server Kimmy was very attentive and described the menu and specials with good insights. We will return often for the view, service, and high quality food. Happy to have found this spot!

Staying in Ventura for girls weekend, looking for drinks on the water. Came across this restaurant which was minutes from hotel. What a great view. Apparently under new management… very attentive, food good and drinks awesome. If they added live music this place would be great. Our server Heather was very good. Excited to see where new management takes this place! Thanks Tony

Great view and nice bar. My bartender, Sam was nice and very attentive. She made sure I never waited more than 5 seconds for a new drink. I didn’t try any entrees but their steamed clams and raw oysters are very good and of solid sizes.

Nice views, clean, service was alright and the food was ok but quite honestly it felt like I was eating back in the 80’s … We ordered the shrimp scampi which was just ok and the pork chop stuffed with goat cheese topped with chutney which had good taste but was over cooked. Risotto that was nothing special. We started with a Caesar salad that had no dressing (we had to ask for it ?) and the clam chowder which we found to be very good… the table bread was chewy served with cold hard butter. For the prices this place charges they can do much better.

We’ve been here a few times for dinner over the years, once at the holidays, and also more recently for lunch. The view and location are fabulous. Overlooking the water, watching the boats go by. Hard to beat that view, as it may be the only restaurant with a wide, unobstructed harbor overlook like that in Ventura. I’m still exploring.
The host who works there has always been attentive and friendly. Our servers have also been nice. The food is nicely plated and good enough, but not spectacular for a fine dining experience. The acoustics could also be improved. I liked that they had dinner music, the piano was classy in a members only golf club bar sort of way), but the volume level isn’t ideal. Although, it’s certainly not as loud as that stairwell going up to Brophy Bros, which I still haven’t been able to walk up.
Given the awesome view and location, it just feels like it needs a little something more. It’s a perfectly good dining place to take guests when you want to enjoy a glass of wine with your visiting relatives, have a nice meal, and look out at the view while all cleaned up. But, because it’s fine dining, I feel like it just needs a little something special to give it a bit more oomph.

Ate at The Rhumb Line last eve for the first time. Very pleasantly surprised! The restaurant was comfortably bustling with diners and bar patrons. Our attentive waiter, Coco, presented the lengthy specials with flawless, detailed memorization. The stylishly plated Oyster Rockefeller appetizer was generous in portion, modest in price and excellent in taste– no doubt the best I have had. I coupled this dish with a layered beet and cheese salad, which again was creatively plated with mixed greens, candied walnuts and a tasty, light dressing. The family and friends similarly raved about their choices of crispy skin salmon, fresh halibut fish and chips, crab cakes and Cioppino. We topped off our dinners with a shared slice of very moist 7 layer carrot cake coupled with fresh whipped cream and berries. Coco’s knowledge about the menu was only equaled by her knowledge of the nearby fishing boats, of which she readily provided a tourist brochure. Upon meeting with the new owner, Chris, we learned about the many planned restaurant renovations/​offerings from décor to live music to schooner sailings. We will definitely be becoming regulars!

Upscale seafood restaurant. Beautiful open-​plan domestic-​modern building right on the Ventura harbor, gorgeous views, spacious layout inside. Ideal service, extremely attentive without any touch of the obsequious. Perfect for a nice upscale dining out.
I should probably have ordered the fish special, because the shrimp scampi I did order had only five (admittedly rather large) shrimp, and they weren’t very good quality shrimp. However, everything else about the dish was exquisite: the garlic-​butter sauce, the touches of onion and herbs, the gently al dente linguini. So I’d fault the shrimp supplies, but the recipe and the cooking of it were first-​rate.
Clam chowder was good too.

We love the Rhumb Line & wish it had better reviews. You can’t beat the view. The service is great, since it’s always been light in patrons, we’ve never had to wait. The bar has terrific servers & they’ll pretty much make you a cocktail that you special order & tell them about if they don’t already know it. I surprised the bar tender with an old classic from Europe & he was all over it! The food is good. I know they’ve changed chefs a few times, but they seem to keep pretty good chefs in back. Just look out those windows & tell me there’s a better place in Ventura to relax & have good food. Give it a chance people, you won’t regret it.

A beautiful restaurant with a stunning harbor view. Good food and drinks. However, the service is very spotty, sometimes non-​existent and the atmosphere is uncomfortable. The wafting of cigarette smoke is unappetizing, but not as much as finding an industrial sized staple in my guacamole. I hope a better run restaurant opens up when this one inevitably closes. Tick tock.

Secret place for brunch… I am not sure too many people know that on Sundays they are open at 10am! We loved the view of Ventura Harbor. I mean stunning beautiful morning RIGHT ON THE OCEAN. Our food was delicious. There was a total of four families there from 10:30 to 12:00 so out food cane right out! Our server was wonderful.

This was MUCH better than the reviews that I read. Food was fantastic, view and atmosphere were incredible. Coco our server was the best. I’m a local and am ashamed that I haven’t tried them before.

We had a very relaxing experience at the Rhumb Line. Our waitress, Coco was pleasant and knew the multiple daily specials without notes. She recommended a delicious Ceviche appetizer that didn’t disappoint. The clam chowder was served with a melted cheese breadstick. My daughter had the ravioli steak special and a side of mashed potatoes. She was pleased with her choice. I had the Ciopino and it was more than filling. The seafood was fresh and the tomato broth was hot and soothing on the rainy night we dined.
I’m glad we took a chance on a new restaurant.

I had been here on a first date and knew the patio and appetizers were good. I returned tonight with my daughter, a very slow weekday night. The manager, a bartender and one courteous waitress on staff. The menu is full of things I love… prices moderate. Our server explained all the specials with great detail
And enticed the taste buds. We each ordered a special… I asked about the price of the fish. But we didn’t ask about price of Rib eye… Fish was $ 30 for daily special… as she told us, but never told us price of steak. Surprise on the Bill at $ 48 for a Rib-​eye? Dinner for 2 with wine was $ 148… Much more than I expected. The service was great when they were there… But it didn’t feel personable. I like the view, the food and the decent service… But something is lacking… Maybe just some passion

Kids are grown and didn’t want to cook a big Thanksgiving dinner so we made reservations. I’m so glad we did. The food was amazing and the service excellent. Beautiful view of the harbor, especially at dusk. Traditional style dinner, portions and choices were plentiful. They also made the most amazing mushroom bisque soup I have ever tasted. I was told that it’s not normally on the menu (it should be) but made for special occasions. It’s fantastic. we’ve been back a few times since the holidays. We have experienced the same great service and quality of food. They also have a nice happy hour.

I had New England clam chowder which was very good. I also had fish and chips. The fish was good and the chips were excellent. Michael our server was very professional and efficient.

Visited for quick weekend lunch with the fiancé. We actually tried this place based on the Unilocal reviews available, plus we wanted to eat somewhere along the water with a view.
We walked in and there were maybe 1 other table with a couple eating, we weren’t sure if they were open since it was very empty and quiet on a Saturday around 1−2p. We were seated right away along the big windows facing the boats.
*wish the windows opened up to the water, that would make the experience– that much better.
Our server was nice with the right amount of attentiveness. We ordered the calamari, with a couple sandwiches. Price wise, a bit expensive for the portions… and flavor wise nothing too special. I think your really paying for the location and experience.
We’d like to try this place for dinner to see if we get a different experience… so be sure to look out for that review…
