History

Established in 1989.

Mark Sternberg, owner of Pear Tree Catering since 2001, has seen his company grow into one of Chicago’s premier catering operations. Following Celebration Catering’s merger with Pear Tree Catering in November 2003, the combined company has seen sales grow over 200%. Mark is very proud that Pear Tree and Celebration Catering recently were nominated for a Jean Banchet Award as one of the top five catering companies in Chicago.

Mark Sternberg enjoyed a 13-​year career with the Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. He served as Director of Corporate and Travel Industry Sales Worldwide, in addition to serving as Director of Catering at the Five Diamond Four Seasons Hotel in Boston. During his first few years in the hospitality industry, Mark developed, built and ran six restaurants in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. His success in Cleveland led Mark to Hyatt Hotels and then to the Four Seasons.

I live in Ohio and needed to order a Shiva tray for a colleague. And I’m not terribly familiar with ordering Shiva food. Mark walked me through the process. I called around noon and he had a gorgeous tray to my colleague by 3:30 p.m. (he was able to secure a driver to deliver, even though it was completely unplanned for the day’s orders). They went above and beyond to make sure my colleague felt supported by her team, which is spread all over the United States.

Great service, good food! We hired Pear Tree for a large party in our backyard, using their picnic menu. The tables and chairs for guests were delivered two days ahead of time, and on the day of the party the Pear Tree crew showed up about 2 hours prior to the party to set up the grill, tables and chairs, serving stations, etc. The smell of the charcoal grill really helped set the tone for the picnic. Adults and kids enjoyed the sundae bar. The servers were attentive, friendly and unobtrusive. They kept up with dirty plates and glasses and prevented things from blowing away. Highly recommend.

We hired Pear Tree Catering for a corporate event on June 26 2015. The food was excellent and turned out to be large portions. Our staff enjoyed the leftovers after the event ended. The servers were very friendly and made our guests feel welcome.

Pear Tree Catering is amazing!!! I got 3 days notice to throw a BBQ for 200 people. The happily accepted the challenge. The staff is helpful, kind and courteous and the food was absolutely delicious. I have been getting compliments all day. If you need a caterer for a corporate event, you will not be disappointed with Peach Tree. They are awesome!

I’ve used numerous caterering companies over the years but will not be shopping around since I’ve begun using Pear Tree. The food is fresh & delicious, the waitstaff are accomodating & the prices are quite reasonable. The owner walked us through the big event making suggestions that saved us money and still had great impact with an artistic flair. Most receitnly used Pear Tree for a Bar Mitzvah Brunch for 200. Now we call him when we’re having even a large family dinner when they’ll drop off dinner or even just the main course making me look like a great hostess so I would definitely use them again!

Used Pear Tree Catering for an in-​home wine tasting I had last weekend at my house. They were terrific to work with! I called only 4 days before I needed the food and they were nice and talked me through the whole event. I live in the city and dropping food off was no problem.
The food arrived right at our agreed upon time, the driver was super friendly, all the food had heating directions written on it. My guests all raved about the food. Would definitely use again!
