This place was terrible. I ate here on a friend’s suggestion, and since the dining room was full, it looked like a good choice. But don’t be misled by the crowd; I’ve never had nastier barbecue. I couldn’t even finish my meal. I just paid and left, and got another lunch from somewhere else. Don’t make my mistake; skip this one.

Ate here for dinner on a road trip. Fries, corn sausage and pork were ok. The beef however, bears discussion. 1. It’s not brisket, don’t expect brisket. 2. It was not cooked today. We eat a lot of bar b que and this was definitely not fresh. My husband’s quote was«it was the most revolting slop he’s ever tasted» when asked about the beef. Everything else was just fine, so just skip the beef and you will be ok.

Had the brisket and sausage combo. WAY too much sauce, couldn’t even taste the meat. Zero smoke flavor. Place must be famous for their sauce, because there were jugs of it by the cash register for sale. Very poor BBQ, in my opinion.

Small town Great Service. The owner was behind the counter talking to guest and I ask about the Ribs or Brisket. Ribs was what he suggested. Then the question of wet or dry. Ask his opinion and he said the dry out sell the wet 5 to 1. So I ordered the dry ribs. While I was waiting for the meal he brought out 2 wet ribs so I could compare. Very good but I liked the dry rubbed ribs better. Very friendly staff and good food. The ribs had great flavor, maybe not as tender as some but very good. The BBQ beans were just pork in beans with a little more sugar In them. So-so. The Corn on the Cobb was good. Busy local Restrauant where most people know the guest names and speak to them. This is what Service should be. Missing at most places today. I would return and enjoy another mean when in town.

I love some good BBQ and they have some, I think. The food comes bathed it sauce so you can’t tell if they smoked it right or even at all. The pork sandwich came with what looked like sloppy joe pork meat with some fries. I would recommend not covering the meat and offering more than one sauce so I can apply how much I want if any. Good service but I have experienced better.

We love southern BBQ. We’ve had smoked brisket and smoked pork all over the country. When we saw this restaurant just off of HWY61, we made a special point to turn in and give it a try so we did. Sometimes bbq restaurants are also about the sides. We had their coleslaw. Or, maybe I should say, their dry cabbage. There wasn’t enough dressing on the cabbage to even know if there was dressing. Needless to say, none of us wanted to eat dry cabbage. One person at our table ordered french fries. They weren’t at all like the picture in one posted review. They were crinkled and probably frozen . We picked up a Goldie’s brochure from another establishment. They advertise Texas BBQ. This isn’t even close to Texas BBQ, There was no smoked flavor in either their pork or «brisket». Good Texas brisket is rubbed and smoked in a smoker for hours. There was no smoked flavor and no bark on either pieces of meat. None. Zero. The pork very thin sliced just like deli meat. The brisket was sliced way too thin for brisket. BBQ pork and brisket are usually about ¼″ thick or so and not sliced like a deli slices meat. We ate part of it but it wasn’t even really hot or had much flavor. Actually, it was probably the worst any of us had ever had. We asked the cashier where they smoke the meat. Guess what we learned? They don’t smoke it. However, they do put it on their barbecue in back. We wondered if that was just to heat it. It mostly tasted steamed as there was no flavor. However, their advertisement indicated they add hickory meat. There was no hickory flavor in the meat at all and any taste was more the bbq sauce and not the meat. They advertise thick bbq sauce. It’s very thin and not thick at all. However, we did like the bbq sauce but it still wasn’t enough to turn bad bbq into good bbq. As others posted, the meat was swimming in sauce when served. That isn’t Texas style either. The only thing we could figure why folks return here is that they order something other than the pork or brisket bbq. Or, maybe they don’t really know what good bbq tastes like.

With all the cars out front at lunchtime we thought this might be a good BBQ place to try as we passed through Vicksburg. We ordered the BBQ pork sandwich. The meat on the bun did not resemble BBQ pork in any way, shape, or fashion. It had no flavor, no smoke to it at all, and it was thinly sliced. Reminded me of boiled pork that had been sliced a few days ago. It really was bad! I am used to KCBBQ where the pork is about ¼″ thick, juicy, and flakes apart. This was like a slice of ham, except with no flavor. The BBQ sauce helped us get through half of it. Maybe there were other things there with better flavor, and maybe we just made a bad choice off the menu, but wouldn’t go back to find out.

The french fries were nothing to write home about, the crinkle cut frozen kind. The salad was iceberg with some tomatoes. Why, perchance, Amy, did you then rate this establishment 5 stars. I’m getting there. After 5, they have a 2 for $ 25 deal that includes a shared appetizer, 2 drinks and 2 entrees(with 2 sides). My fiancé and I both got the ½ barbecue chicken with fries and a side salad, and onion rings to start out with. While the salad components and fries didn’t add to the score, they were just fine and didn’t detract either. The house dressing is super tasty. The waitress described it as, like french or thousand island but spicy. Yum! The onion rings were crispy and came with tasty dipping sauce. The chicken was, well, perfect. Tender and flavorful(there is bbq sauce and hot sauce on table if you need more) but not overpowering and plentiful! We both have enough left overs for another meal. Don’t go here if you’re on a diet, they aren’t catering to that crowd. Next time I think I’ll try either the potato salad or coleslaw, I bet they rock that. The waitress was nice and attentive, but not phony/overly nice. I’m only in town a month, but I will be back. Oh yes, I will be back.

Had the 3 meat platter and everything, even the sausage, came swimming in a vinegary barbecue sauce. Sides were boring, frozen fries, frozen corn and the worst tossed salad on the planet . The place could also use a really good scrubbing including the sauce splattered walls.

As an Arizona transplanted Texan, I’m always looking for good Bar-BQ. Passing through and stopped for dinner. I’ll keep looking. Sliced pork was dry and tough even though coated with vinegary sauce. Smoked chicken was just cooked with little smoke flavor. Nice staff but, sorry, not anywhere near great Bar-BQ.

Where the heck are the complaints from? This place was awesome! Now, granted, I am a Californian and may not know what traditional BBQ is, but I do know from good food. And this food was YUMMY! Between the three of us, we had the beef, pork, chick and sausage, all of it in rich, delicious BBQ sauce. The portions were more than generous, and the waitress was obviously local and known to almost everyone there. This place has been around for over fifty years, and most of the patrons are local, but they were all very friendly to us obvious out-of-towners(think our accents gave us away). So, don’t listen to any of the 2(or even 3) stars or less, this place is delicious and worth a try. Also, not hard on the wallet. Thank you.

Rustic atmosphere. Conveniently located. Food is ok. Atmosphere is quiet. Service is good. I enjoy the country fried steak plate or the hamburger steak plate. The BBQ sausage plate is great. Sides are tasty and generous. Sweet tea is good.

Good portions and good food, but this is not a traditional BBQ place. The food is all served wet and mixed with sauce. It is not very smoky flavored but is tasty.

Ok but beans were a disappointment and side dishes are pricey.

Had Goldie’s dry ribs, beans and salad with ice tea. It was excellent. The BBQ sauce is really good, too. A must visit in Vicksburg. The only down side was dessert. Needs to be home made. Save your dessert money and buy a bigger rib plate.

My hometown barbecue joint — it’s been ages since I’ve eaten here and quite frankly, I was probably too young to know what good BBQ was and that’s a shame as it was known to have the best Q in the city. But, I have to consider that since it didn’t totally turn me on and make me appreciate slow smoked pit fired meats the way other smokehouses in Texas and other cities in the deep south later did, maybe it just wasn’t good enough? So 3 stars for now, I’ll have to revisit that score the next time I’m back and give it another chance.

So apparently this place is highly recommended by Southern Living and the Southern Foodways Alliance — I read an interview with one of the chefs there who said that the dry rubbed ribs outsold the wet ribs 5 – 1 so I had to try them. OHMAN. They might have been the best ribs I ever ate. Such an amazing flavor. They serve BBQ sauce on the table which was so excellent, but the ribs really stood out on their own without the sauce. I also got the BBQ beans and coleslaw which were fine, though pretty average. I did like the texas toast(I think they just call it french bread here) too. Great friendly service. When you go, order a lot of ribs and leave happy!

We had the pork. The sauce was yummy. However, the side«salad» cost $ 2.50 and was composed of a few laughable pieces of iceberg lettuce. There was more dressing than salad. Don’t waste your money on the salad or corn. The corn wasn’t fresh. Stick with the fried sides at this place.

Good BBQ and great service. Great lunch spot in town. Wide selection of items all of which are prepared with generous portions. Location is great, right in the middle of town.
