Dr. Hughes performed anterior cervical dissection and fusion surgery on me on January 26, 26, 2016 at INOVA/Fairfax Hospital. I was released from the hospital the following day and have been recuperating at home. The condition was one of long standing. Dr. Hughes’ procedure was nothing less than extraordinary. His staff at ORTHO/VA(Alexandria) is superb, including his nurse, Carol Dobson. I was also very pleased with the treatment I received from the nursing staff at INOVA/Fairfax while in their care. Thanks to all.

It has been over 3 years since I had lower back surgery and I have to say it was the best decision I made. Dr. Hughes and his team did a great job. My back has been in great shape enabling me to do things — simple things like getting in and out of chairs, sitting for a long period time at work and getting a peaceful night of sleep — that I was sure I would not have for the rest of my life. But I can do those things and much more ever so easily now. I worked with Dr. Hughes for years on this and a prior neck pain I had. In both cases he always attempted to fix the problem first through physical therapy, then to use cortisone or other steroid injections and then if no success with those methods consider what surgery could help. With my neck the physical therapy and traction did the trick but after two years of trying PT and many injections I finally was ready to have surgery that was needed to successfully take care of my back pain.
