Worst service experience ever. I called to make an appointment to have my car breaks looked at as they had been squeaking for the past 3 weeks. They said sure come drop it off and they would look at it for free. I dropped my car off and 5 hours later had still not heard back. When I called them to follow up, he checked on my car and said they didn’t hear any squeak and my breaks were fine. I was relieved thinking the noise went away. Then he called me back and said oh but your front light is out and it’s $ 55 to replace. I know for sure my front light was not out when I took my car in since I had just driven it the night before. To get to the front light you have to go through the tire, which they had to have taken off to inspect the break. When I told the service guy that he said it must be a coincidence and that’s just how it is. When I asked to speak to the service manager I was told it would be over an hour wait. Ugh!
The next day I get a call asking about my service. I was thinking great maybe now they will fix this situation. When I explained to the girl, she said she would have a manager call me. Never did I get a call back. And on top of that my breaks are still squeaking. I have been to many Subaru dealerships and had great service. This was by far the worst! I went in with one problem and left with two!

I must say, customer service that was provided by Boris was top notch. He survived the bargaining with my parents and we ended up walking out with a new 2016 Subaru Impreza. Amazing dealership!

Bringing down my ratings for both service and potential purchase.
Service:
— Now they only accept coupons from other service departments in the DMV area. This is a huge difference from accepting coupons from any dealership in the nation.
— Their service compared to other places is more expensive.
— They no longer offer free car washes like they have in the past
Purchasing:
— If you give them any sort of inkling of a possible purchase, they will not back down. They will keep calling, and calling, and calling… and emailing, and emailing, and emailing. This is even after I told them I purchased from another dealership.
— I submitted an inquiry several months ago to Randall, and decided the time wasn’t right for me to buy. In the past couple of weeks I decided to purchase and, I reached out to him directly via email… he failed to respond. I guess I upset him that first time by not buying? However, went through the website in hopes of talking to someone else, and Randall reached out. I guess he at forgotten about our initial conversation, but wow talk about lame customer service.

I have to say this was the best experience I have ever had with a dealership even with one hickup. First off I had spent weeks looking for a specific Subaru WRX and no one had the one I was looking for. After after 4 weeks of searching and some online searching I found Stohlman’s Subaru and I called them.
Car Salesman Randall answered the call and listened to my requirements and jumped on my request immediately. He had one WRX in stock but at the moment someone had already put money down so he asked to call me back after searching his inventory. Long story short, I called on a Friday from work and by the end of my work day I had a car ready for me to test drive on Saturday. Randall had found a fully loaded WRX coming in that afternoon so he had it pulled off the truck and inspected, waiting for to test drive it. The car was not in the color I was looking for but I decided to make that compromise and accept it. The price was ridiculously low for what it came with and Randall proved it, not to mention I had been doing my homework for the last month on this car.
Now for Saturday when I decided to test drive the car. Randall had the car cleaned and set for me, we test drove the car and I was ready to sign the paperwork. I was an easy sale but he was a respectful salesperson and he didn’t add anything the rose any red flags.
He gave me a set price and totaled it with the fees (tax tage, etc.), I figured I paid $ 5k less than what I should have.
The only problem I had was with the finance guy. I was a done deal with a secure job proof of ID, and a hefty down payment ready to slammed on the table like Dominos but the finance manager was killing the sale. My car loan was even pre-​approved by my bank, all they had to do was fill out the online paperwork an they would have had their money. Again I was an easy sale. The finance manager was asked if I wanted the car registered in my name or me and my wife, I wanted both. In that case he wanted both our social security cards, our drivers licenses, then he wanted a bill with both our names on it. This was way too much information for registering a car in both our names. The finance guy said it was because of my bank application. So I call his bluff I contacted my bank and they told me and him that it wasn’t needed. He wanted the loan on both our names to finalize the car registration and all the excess proof. Randall was calm and cool and tried to get him off my back since I had already proven myself as a qualified and serious buyer.
I didn’t feel comfortable that this guy was asking for all this information especially since I had already been approved by my bank and have already registered one car in Virginia with less information. The finance guy could have killed the sale if I didn’t want the car so bad and needed like last week. Normally I would have walked out, but Randall kept me calm and did his best to keep me informed of what was going with the paperwork. I later told the guy that I didn’t want to file the paperwork with my wife added and that I will take care of the registration on my own later. At this point I just wanted to drive off and enjoy my car. Once I said that the paperwork was done in 15 minutes.
The longest and most painful part was the finance guy he over complicated the situation and nearly killed the sale.
Randall was professional, fast, honest and got right to the point. I got more than what I paid for in a car. If I need to buy another car from him I will but I’ll make sure to have a different finance guy sign the paperwork.

If you are in the market for a Subaru go here and speak with David Jennings ASAP. I typically do not enjoy the car buying process at all, but was so fortunate to meet him when I walked in the door. David immediately put me at ease — I felt ZERO pressure and he answered all my questions readily and treated me with absolute respect. He was sure to mention useful features of the 3 models I was considering without making me feel as though he was trying to sell me anything. It was apparent that he knows his stuff, and that he works where we works because he believes in his company and the Subaru brand. Despite the very busy season and my showing up near closing time, he was attentive and went beyond out of his way to make sure I had all the info I needed and that I was able to drive the cars for as long as I needed to get a good feel. IMPRESSED beyond impressed with my experience overall, and I was not intending to buy a car on the spot that day but I actually left there feeling more relaxed than when I walked in (when does that ever happen??!). Call and ask for David — well worth the time and drive to do business with him.

This was my second vehicle purchase from Stohlman. The first time was in 2011 and I worked with Stephan Sagbo for my VW GTI — — Stephan is still at Stohlman’s and is now managing sales on the Subaru side. For my Forester purchase I mainly dealt with Boris Alvarado. Overall it was a comfortable, non-​threatening, no pressure experience. Boris was polite, courteous, professional, and extremely patient. I probably was not the easiest person to work with — — I was often very demanding and changed my mind a few times. The guy was nothing but patient with me and had a good sense of humor.

Note on the Business Department: The only thing I wish they hadn’t done (and this is what I’ve experienced at some other dealerships and their business departments) is that they ask you more than once (repeatedly) if you want to finance with them even if you’ve already taken care of everything through your own bank/​credit union. They promise a lower rate of interest, but even if I’m not interested, they still push. Annoying. Also, if I don’t want any extended warranties, it is simply because I don’t want them. No need to ask me why and put me on the spot — no one wants to be put on the spot.

My service experience was neutral. However, Stohlman continues to send me appointment reminders and promotional emails after I have unsubscribed three times, called the shop to have my information removed four times, and marked the messages as spam. To me, this is an abusive business practice. Get it together over there.

I keep coming back for the great service! I recently noticed a weird clicking sound that would progressively get worse as my speed increased so I brought it in to get checked out. This time around Karen checked me in and I must say I have found my new service advisor! Karen was so helpful and didn’t make me feel silly when I told her what was going on. She made sure the shop foreman himself test drove the car. The foreman was not able to replicate the sound I came in for so Karen set me up with a Subaru technician hoping I would be able to replicate the problem. Long story short, I was not able to but I was glad it was gone. She made it a point that if it ever happened again that I was always welcome to come back.

All I can say is that the service there is bad and if you want to stay in business you have to do everything you can to satisfy a customer and do what’s right. They did not meet those requirements. To get positive feedback you must make things right for a customer. I do have to say they do have a good body damage repair person in there. The used car sales manager is passive like he doesn’t care what the concern is, this is not a good look for the establishment.

I am extremely dissatisfied and disappointed with this dealership.
I originally bought a 2015 WRX Premium CVT from David Jennings in October 2014. David Jennings is awesome and he is the only reason this place even deserves a star. David is kind, honest, and does everything in his power to make sure you’re happy. Not often you find someone who genuinely cares.
About 3 months into owning my WRX, it had transmission problems and to be more descriptive, my car couldn’t reverse! I was trying to parallel park and since I was on a hill, almost hit the car in front of me. So I went to the service center at Stohlman to report what happened. They called me and said that they couldn’t replicate the issue and they flash reset the car so all should be working. I drove it home feeling like my car was iffy and again, my car couldn’t reverse. The service center didn’t take me seriously until I had to show them videos of the issue. They found that the transmission needed to be replaced. Had my car in their shop for 2 months because apparently the transmission was back ordered (really comforting to hear, NOT). I will give them props for giving me a loaner car in that time, but it didn’t negate the fact that I was paying for a car that I didn’t drive for two months and the loaner was definitely not worth nearly as much as what I was paying for.
Subaru of America really took care of me in that time. They reimbursed me for 2 months of payments that I didn’t have my car and counted that as strike 1 in the lemon law. Got my car 2 months later — brand new transmission. A month later, my car broke down on the NJ Turnpike. I had to get towed from NJ to MD. The dealership called me the next day and owned up to not putting enough transmission oil so my differentials had too much friction and my drive train messed up. At that point, my car would be on its third transmission within 6 months of ownership. I told Subaru that I didn’t feel safe and didn’t feel comfortable at all with driving my car.
They understood and at this point, I thought they were really taking care of me. The service center called to mail me a reimbursement for towing. They said that they’d take care of me just like the last incident and said that they’d fully replace everything — all at Subaru’s expense. This came from Joe Lishman (manager of the service center). He called me twice said they had a 2015 for me and would work on it right away. I had to send him my receipts via e-​mail and NEVER heard back from him after that. The car was with them for another two months. Apparently they couldn’t find a 2015 replacement so they said they felt better about giving me a 2016 model (so Joe lied to me). I also requested it’d be manual this time around as the CVT definitely didn’t make me feel safe and certainly had its errors being the first of its kind. I was assured that everyone at Stohlman was working together to make everything work, but each person from a different department would tell me they didn’t know anything. Finally got the 2016 in — and did Subaru end up replacing my car? Nope, they made me buy the 2016 which they claimed the 2016 is worth more so I had to make sure that I covered that cost since the dealership had already lost about $ 6,000 from this even though it was THEIR fault, they should be accountable for it and they should be keeping their word. This obviously wasn’t a replacement, the dealership did not cover all expenses, and at the end of the day, they wanted me to lose more money. They also never reimbursed me for my towing nor my two months of payments like promised. I escalated the issue to Subaru of America and they ended up reimbursing me at least for the towing which they didn’t even have to because it was supposed to be the dealership’s expense. I tried to get an update on the 2 months of car payments that was promised to be reimbursed, got a response saying they’d inquire the next day, but have received nothing.
This dealership only cares about the money rather than the customer’s happiness (aside from Dave Jennings). They will never take ownership in what they should be accountable for and there was an obvious miscommunication within departments, and they certainly don’t keep their word. Their service center is horrid and obviously can’t even put enough transmission fluid when replacing nor did they even double check anything. I had so much hope for this dealership when I first bought my car, but when something big goes down — they’re not going to take care of you. I am scarred from my first new car purchase.

I’m very dissatisfied with the coordination in the service department. I was basically told I had no clue what I was talking about regarding a pre-​arranged payment made by my fleet company. He told me its your car you pay for it! It’s actually not my car… it’s the fleet companies car.
Very unhappy with how I was treated.

Why I’m not happy: My last scheduled oil change took 2 hours with no apology and on completion, their employee drove my car from the service area to front lot which was nearly empty yet still managed to hit the giant pothole twice, then backed over the same pothole and hit it again twice. Are they TRYING for extra alignment business?
Furthermore, regarding their multi-​point inspection: their paperwork says my tires are all at 36 psi (above spec by 4) with no mention of adjustments. When I checked them that evening, they were all 30 psi. Either they lied about checking them (and what else?) or their gauge is off (which as a dealer and repair shop, they should have caught and fixed before this point). After two oil changes plus inspection, they failed to note large amounts of condensation in a taillight during the warranty period.
These are all details, but they speak to mediocre levels of quality and care.

I traded my Saab in for a Crosstrek hybrid and they low balled me on that. I put it on
to make more and I know they had site administrators take my add down as I tried to make extra money. Don’t be fooled, these auto sites are in bed with the dealer. I went in and made the trade anyway and my Saab was on cargurus the next day for 18k… they gave me 11k…7k profit. I asked for little things because I knew how much they were going to make but they said no to almost everything, such as throwing a rear spoiler in on the deal. Spoilers run about $ 400?
I asked if I can put a toe hitch on the Crosstrek and everyone, including service department, salesman, and manager said I could with all Crosstreks?! After I purchased the vehicle, 30k and about two months later, I went in to get a toe hitch and the service department said «we can’t put hitches on the hybrid!»
I only spent $ 30,000 on this vehicle and now I can’t toe my motorcycle? It’s one thing to lie over minor things, but 30k is a lot of money for a common man… now I’m stuck with a vehicle for years.
Now I’m getting my tires replaced and Stohlman never gave me the wheel lock key so I had to pay $ 55 dollars for NTB to break the locks off?
Stohlman, from my experience, only cares about the bottom line and not the buyer. I spent 30k of my money and had to forfeit towing my motorcycle or anything! Their service department is bad too. They take forever to do a simple oil change.
In the end, I will drive 3 hours to any other Subaru dealer before I would ever deal with these people again. Subaru is a great product, it’s a shame the stohlman name is branded on some of them.
Update: the manager called me a day or two after this post and said he’s going to work something out for me… he never got back to me.
He’s what Stohlman isn’t realizing. I spend 30k for my cross trek for the purpose of towing stuff and after I bought it they said hybrids don’t tow.
In the end, these dealerships will say whatever it takes to put you in a car.
Go somewhere else

I will start off by saying that my car buying experience here was great. The salesman who assisted me was fantastic and guided me through the Subaru process with ease.
The service experience is another matter. Leading up to my most recent service I received five emails and one text message «reminding» me about the service appointment. I think that they somehow forgot that I made the appointment, who on earth needs six reminders about a service appointment that they scheduled. I had to email the service manager requesting that they stop contacting me! I dropped my car off at the service check-​in at my chosen time and waited in the waiting room. The waiting room is nice as it has free wifi and a TV and coffee. However, after this point my experience went downhill.
The service appointment took much longer than I was told it would take, for a complimentary service it was rather a hassle to prove that it was supposed to be free. This was an interesting point of contention as the dealer had emailed me the coupon, it was like the service team had never seen the free service coupon! After finally getting my car back I noticed that the car steers significantly to one side. I had to call the dealer to complain and they said that this can happen after service. What?!? Why would this be an after effect of having your car serviced? I decided to check my dash cam and was surprised to see that my car was parked for 38 minutes after dropping it off in the dealer parking lot — before anything even began!!! Then, when someone got in my car to take it to the service bay, they nearly hit another car in the lot on the way to the service bay! Please tell me what the point of having a scheduled service appointment is (that I’m reminded six times about) if you’re going to park my car for 38 minutes in the lot? Please tell me! But I digress… After speaking with the service team about how my car no longer drives straight without over correction I was told that I may have to pay to fix the issue! This would be the issue that the «service» caused. Surely you must be kidding Stholman! I will update this review after the service appointment that is scheduled to fix the car from the first service appointment.

After returning to have my car fixed, from the service appointment one week prior, my thoughts pretty much stay the same. I brought my car to the service area and (truthfully speaking) was not very surprised to learn that the appointment I had made, was no where to be found in the system. I was told by the service advisor that checked me in that this would be a simple process to only adjust what was likely the alignment. In and out in about an hour or hour-​and-​a-​half. I also said that this visit was a result of the «service» my vehicle received the week prior. I had to retell m story, because none of the notes I was told that were saved to my account were to be found anywhere. Such a surprise! When I dropped my car off I left my dash camera recording again, to see how my car was treated. One hour turned into two hours, turned into being told another 30 – 45 minutes… Really?! Simple one hour service huh? After just over 2.5 hours I was told my car was ready and that there would be no fee to pay. Thanks Stholman for fixing the problem you caused and not making me pay — really awesome (please note the sarcasm). I was told that the alignment was off, likely due to road conditions and potholes — funny for them to say that since the problem began the exact moment I picked up my car from service the first time! After getting home I checked my dash cam and found that three test drives later, including one where the tech was talking on his cell phone, and what appeared to be an oil check and all other fluid checks, and another stint of my car simply sitting in the parking lot, my car was «ready».
I will not likely return to Stholman for servicing my car after this fiasco.

This is the worse group of people I have ever delt with. I delt with this guy named Allen Ngo. I called him early Sunday morning asking if it would be a good day to come in he says yes. I show up a little over an hour later. I fill out my credit loan application for Allen Ngo to submit. He tells me that they only have one finance guy on staff today who is dealing with another customer so it may take a little while. I said okay and that I would wait. About an hour and half goes by so I decided to kill some time at the Best Buy next door then decide to get a bite to eat at the Chipotle. I come back to the dealership making the total wait time about two and half maybe three hours. I see the customers Allen Ngo delt with walk out and drive off. Allen Ngo comes back maybe two minutes later and tells me the banks are closed for the day he begins to apologize. So I wasted three hours of my time only for Allen Ngo to tell me the banks were closed for the day. I highly encourage anyone looking to by a car with this dealership to stay away. The fact they had made me wait three hours only to tell me the banks have been closed is highly unprofessional. This is something they should’ve known ahead of time rather then wasting a potential customers time. DO NOT BUY YOUR CAR HERE!

Never had a better car buying experience!
I can’t say enough about how pleasant and helpful David Jennings was during the process of buying our Crosstrek. We loved the car, but compared to other car shopping experiences, working with David put us over the edge regarding our buy decision. He was helpful in advising us, knowledge about the product and the differences with the Forester, and incredibly professional. He was very upfront, which helped establish trust, which made the process much easier. I would also say the same about Cary, who assisted us with the financial side of things. I would say they made buying a car easier, which ironically, is not the norm.
Good price. Quality customer service (on the sales side). Hassle free. I’d recommend them to anyone.

For Service: We bought our 2006 Outback station wagon new from Stohlman Subaru. Earlier this year the head gasket went bad. This is a problem that never should have happened so Subaru Corporate paid for part of the repair.
We never had an oil usage problem even with the head gasket leaking. After the repair our car burns oil about a quart every 1k miles or so. When we brought this to the attention of Stohlman, they looked for a leak, nothing was obvious so their response was this was an older car and we should expect the car to burn some oil. They never acknowledged that this was a problem only after they repaired the car.
So now not only does our car burn oil but the burning oil has caused a problem with the catalytic converter. A $ 2K repair.
Don’t EVER take your car to Stohlman for service they don’t do good work and don’t back up the work they do.

Hands down one of the most pleasant car buying experiences I’ve had. Our salesman was David Jennings, who was really friendly, knowledgable/​thorough, and gave us a good deal. My husband ordered the WRX which took 10 weeks to arrive but David kept us in the loop during the wait. We had gone to another dealership previous to the Stohlman Tyson’s but were turned off by the rude salesman who wouldn’t let us test drive the WRX (wtheck!).
I think professionalism and honesty goes a long way to make and keep customers happy and David definitely provided that. I would def refer this dealership to my friends looking for a Subaru.

I had a decent experience at Stohlman Subaru Service. I can’t speak for the VW shop, which is in a separate building. Service personnel were nice and attentive, although seemingly overworked and understaffed. They took a little bit longer than planned with my car, but they were nice and did a good job. I bought some touch up paint afterwards, which they neglected to mention was not in stock, but made up for by delivering it to my home.
