I ordered 40 orchids for favors at a baby shower and the owner Gene was excellent to work with. The favors are absolutely stunning. Didn’t have a single issue. Very reliable and great/​fresh quality. This is the place to get your orchids.

I have never been orchid shamed before in my life until two days ago. Growing up with a mother who had a beautiful orchid garden at home, you would think I would know a thing or two about orchids. All I knew I often thought my mom was insane when I was a kid as she talked to her orchids as if they were humans. I got jealous a lot because she called the plants «dear» and she called me «little shit» or «satan.»
That’s some kind of bullshit, I know. However, there’s no denying that orchids are so beautiful. Just I didn’t expect to be orchid shamed. I wanted to buy my friend some patio furniture for her new house but she kept telling me no and told me to buy her orchids. I was like. What? Orchids? She said — O R C H I D S. I said — W T F? Then. I said — O K.
I didn’t think much about it and frankly forgot until this weekend as I was staying at her house. I saw orchids at a grocery store and light bulb turned on in my head — need that. I spent ten minutes decided what to buy and I just paid for it. I thought any orchids would do.
When I got there I asked her proudly to open the wrapped orchids. She opened it and went. «Oh so pretty.» She walked over to the piano to put the orchids there and on top of it, I saw this gigantic gorgeous double strands of fully bloomed white orchids in a pot, and my jaw dropped. I turned to look at mine, and my plant looked like an anorexic woman going on hunger strike.
I was so embarrassed. Well, shit. who knew? I haven’t seen orchids up close in so long and I really didn’t know there were grades of it? They all just looked pretty except when you put them next to each other. Now I got the «dear» and «little shit» comparison. It also seemed fitting here.
Then, I remembered Orchids by Hausermann. I used to live in Villa Park for over ten years and I knew of the place but never set foot in it. I vowed to my friend that I would get her the best orchids money could buy. I sneaked out to go orchids shopping and drove to Villa Park from Glenview just for some orchids.
When I parked my car at their lot, I saw people walking out with orchids resembling the fat gorgeous ones. I was very very hopeful. When I got inside the greenhouse, my jaw dropped for the second time over fucking orchids. There were long rows after rows after rows of just big fat pretty blooming orchids. There were so many kinds!!! This had to be an orchid heaven. Holy shit, It was definitely like a harem filled with thousands of gorgeous naked women. It would be hard just to pick one amongst thousands.
After long deliberation and talking to the staff there, I finally made up my mind and went for this big fat three strands of purple orchid arrangement. They were so gorgeous I would talk to it and say sweet nothing as well. I knew my friend would have to mean her «oh so pretty» comment now. She had to.
This place was unbelievable. It’s so pretty first off, and all the orchids there were mind boggling. It was a huge property and they grow orchids from the seeds. There were all kinds too. It was so overwhelming but luckily the staff were so helpful. They already have pre made arrangements or you can buy individual plants. You can pick a couple or several to be put together too in a bigger pot and they will do it for you. It was just an unbelievable place.
Plus, the prices weren’t high or more expensive. I paid about the same price for that ugly anorexic orchid plant at a grocery store. I felt so robbed now realizing I could get a way better one for about the same price.
When I got back to the house, my friend was yelling at me for dissapearing. She thought I sneaked out for a booty call. Geez, booty call at 3 in the afternoon? Wasn’t it obvious girl needed to do orchid shopping?
This time, her jaw was the one that dropped. Yes, she said «oh so pretty» in such different fashion too. It sounded like she opened a man’s pants and saw a big fat long penis and whoa «oh so pretty.» I felt so victorious. It had to feel like this for a guy with ED and got glorified after some help from Cialis and now the moment’s right. It was awesome.
I wish I live in orchid’s world where being fully bloomed and fat is the definition of gorgeous. Yes, I had enough of orchids for awhile. Though I was shamed at first, I think I was the one with a cigarette and a smile on my face when it was all over.

I have been to Hausermann’s multiple times and I can say without a doubt that I would never buy orchids from anywhere else. The best quality and prices you can get in the area.

The orchid show is also next weekend and is free. You won’t believe this place 3 acres of greenhouses and the orchids are grow from seeds. If you miss the show they are open to the public!!!

What a beautiful place. My whole family loves coming here. Sometimes we just walk around and look! We have found some pretty stellar plants and orchids. The prices aren’t super cheap, but I love the quality of their plants. Most recently we purchased a black orchid here and it is by far my most favorite plant in my home!

Ok so I’ve lived in Addison for 25 years and never knew this place was open to the public.
What an awesome place! If you like orchids defintly check this place out. My girlfriend was in aw! What a variety of healthy looking plants. You won’t find the common orchids that every business sells here. Many, many species to look at or to choose from. Ive been going to Home Depot for plants… Never again! They also sell a lot of house plants I’ve never seen.
I didn’t catch his name, but the older man there taught me a lot about orchids in 10 minutes. The easier varieties to care for and just carrying for orchids in general. You can defintly tell that the people working there take pride in thier plants.
The prices are extremely reasonable, but if you do like orchids/​plants be sure to bring some $$. You’ll want to leave with lots!

There are beautiful orchids everywhere! This place is so cool, orchids as far as you can see! There are so many varieties and colors to choose from. I thought the prices were reasonable too.
I was helped by a nice, friendly, and helpful blonde/​white-​haired lady (was her name Melinda? It was something with an «M») who was very informative, telling me what to look for in an orchid. (I was buying them as thank-​you gifts.) This sweet lady stopped what she was doing, put her work down, and walked with me through the orchids helping me identify the best characteristics, so I can find «the one.» I was grateful to have her assistance since this is my first-​ever experience with orchids.
When I checked out with two orchids, I told the clerk (I think his name was Adam) that these were gifts. Learning that, he took the orchids, watered them, spruced them up to look especially nice, then put them in a box to carry home. Thank you!
I have already told several people about Orchids By Hausermann. No doubt I will be returning. Like Anna C. said on 7÷16÷2014, I will keep this place in mind for a winter pick-​me-​up. Thanks, Anna C., for the tip! :-)

In the winter, when you are cold and sick of the snow, come walk around the greenhouses. You will get warm, feel humidity on your skin again, and enjoy the flowers. In the spring, they always have an open house where the orchids are displayed beautifully in multiple areas. If you are a photo queen or just like to post pictures on Facebook or Instagram, bring your camera along as there are many photo opportunities here. They also sell other types of plants in the summer months. They sell beautiful topiaries at reasonable prices during the summer, along with gorgeous flowering maple trees. This place is a real treat! Don’t miss it.

This place is a legitimate greenhouse and completely amazing. You can spend a few hours walking through all the different rooms. They carry many species of orchids that you can’t find elsewhere. Most flower shops and nurseries only sell phalaenopsis (the common «moth» orchid) whereas this place carries phals and a plethora of other varieties. I will definitely make another trip out before the end of summer.

Both times that I’ve gone to Hausermann’s, I’ve had a great experience. I should preface by saying that I love houseplants, but I am not known for my ability to keep them alive. Hausermann’s staff has always been patient enough to answer all of my dumb questions (No, you should not «just add ice». Yes, the hamster should be fine if he bit one of the roots this morning and the orchid should survive, too). Their staff is very friendly and approachable. I’ve noticed that they are very straightforward, which I can see people misinterpreting, but I have never been poorly treated here. In fact, on my first trip they taught me how to repot my orchids and gave me a very necessary tutorial on how to properly care for my plants, which have now thrived for almost three years thanks to Hausermann’s advice. The store itself is a wonderland, and I love admiring the plants when I’m there. They sell all of the supplies that I’ve needed to keep my plants alive, and the orchid selection itself is almost overwhelmingly beautiful.

What a fantastic find. We attended the annual Spring open house yesterday and were blown away by the variety of orchids. Prices were very reasonable and the staff was friendly and helpful at checkout. They accidentally partially snapped one of the orchids I selected during the packing process. Not only did they go and find a replacement, they ended up giving me the one they harmed for free (still in good shape because of the # of blooms and stems). Not counting the free one, I left with one extremely large orchid, one medium one, two small succulents, and three small exotic plants that are grown on wood — all for $ 125. We will be back on a regular basis.

I have been visiting this place for the last seven years. You will not find a more beautiful place to perk up your spirits. I have brought many friends and family to explore the beauty of the orchids during the cold months of winter.
Be prepared to spend a good amount of money. You will not be able to leave without purchasing a few orchids. I have never been able to get out of there without spending at least one hundred dollars.
Now for the reason of my two star review; Customer service, of which they have none. When you begin to frequent a place of business, it is common for the employees to acknowledge you with a smile or nod, maybe some small talk. Not this place. Every worker in this place has a scowl. They are extremely unfriendly. Being family owned, judging from their attitudes, they have been forced kicking and screaming into the business. If this is the case, sell the business to someone who would appreciate the gift they have been given.
This location is huge, we are talking greenhouse after greenhouse of orchids. How about bringing in a little animal life; a beautiful Koi pond, a room full of exotic, tropical birds, or even a cat or two patrolling the area. Seeing as how they treat their customers, they are not going to want to be bothered with an animal.

This place is an extremely beautiful place to walk with someone you love to enjoy an abundence of beautiful orchids in varying states of growth.
It is about 3 football fields long of Green houses. Orchids by Hausermann is one of those places you pass by for years, without realizing that it really is a special place.

What an amazing orchid nursery! Trust me I should know. The last orchid nursery I’ve been too just happened to be the largest one in Thailand (Chiang Mai). Orchids by Hauserman blows away that Thai shop ten times over. The selection is incredible, and the number of orchids is rather overwhelming.
Loses a star for being soooo far away from the city, and for the high prices for the tiny plants.

Great place for anyone who likes beautiful flowers! They have many wonderful varieties at reasonable prices. Going through the orchid greenhouses is almost overwhelming because it’s hard to choose among the vast array of plants!
I am an intermediate level orchid grower and I actually drove here from Milwaukee to get a few particular orchids from here. I was delighted to find that their storefront has some orchids they didn’t list on their website and I ended up picking up even more than I had planned on!
Whether you are a beginner at orchids or like me you are already into the orchid world, I bet you will find something here you will love!

If you love orchids, you need to stop here! This place is the mecca for all things orchid. I’m not sure how long this place has been here but I know it is long enough where I am kicking myself for not coming sooner.
I recently just started purchasing orchids and let me tell you, they are one feisty flower. I have a couple (Phalaenopsis) from a hardware store and a discount store. I’ve had problems with getting those to re-​bloom after the original blooms have fallen off and the stalks dried up. I brought one of my orchids to their open house last year because they were hosting seminars on growing and re-​potting tips. They helped re-​pot it and offered suggestions. One year later I am still without blooms but that is OK, I hear you can wait a very long time for your orchid to re-​bloom if at all! I am a sucker for the way orchids look though, so naturally I bought a few more from here. I bought one that is fragrant and I actually got 2 bloom cycles out of it. The stalks/​stems never dried up so I am hoping I can get another bloom soon.
Their yearly open house is coming up so if you have time, stop in. You can spend a good amount of time just walking through the green house, it is HUGE… it keeps going and going. I love the section where they are harvesting orchids and they are all growing in glass bottles (think ship in a bottle). It is very cool! Also, in the summer they have a selection of perennials and annuals for your garden.

WOW! Drove by one day and my ol’ lady wanted to stop in to see the orchids. All I can say is HOLY SH*T! I don’t even really like flowers but this place is insane. Over 4 million orchid plants in tons of varieties. I was blown away. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The buildings seemed a little run down, but the place is a moisture trap, so there’s really not much they can do, short of replacing the greenhouses on a constant basis. Anyway, really enjoyed the stop, and will certainly end up with some of these beautiful plants soon.

On a dark and dreary January day I happened to find an oasis of happiness with my first visit to Orchids By Hausermann!
I’ve seen their sign many times off of Addison Road, and being an orchid lover, was always intrigued. I guess I was a) intimidated (kind of like being a newbie to wine, orchid-​lovers can be very passionate), b) not sure if the place was open to the public and c) well, there is just no excuse… I could slap myself silly for not visiting before.
The greenhouse is deceiving; it looks so small from the front entrance but once inside; well, it’s kind of like the place that keeps on giving! Room after room after room of orchids in all stages of growth (don’t miss going ALL the way to the back to see some big and beautiful orchids!
One of the things I loved about my visit was that they just let me browse. They greeted me when I walked in but allowed me to wander all the way without questions or pestering. I was kind of just soaking up the tropical vibe and beauty and it was nice to be allowed that joy. When I did pick two orchids out and went to purchase the staff asked if I need any instruction and packaged them up nice and tidy from the crappy weather that was awaiting me outside. I wanted to stay there all day!
Whether you are an avid orchid collector or just a fan of pretty flowers, I highly recommend a visit to Orchids by Hausermann!

I did not inherit my moms green thumb. My mom can make a cattleya orchid bloom 5 times in one year. She is amazing. I, on the other hand, can kill a fern before I even get it home from the store. The orchids at Hausermann’s always make it far past their Plant in Kate’s House life expectancy though.
I’ve been going to Hausermann’s with my mom since I was a little kid. I’ve always loved wandering around the huge greenhouses looking at the beautiful flowering plants and sniffing the fragrant orchids. The greenhouses aren’t glamorous, they are just your average greenhouses, they’ve been the same since I was a kid. But you could get lost in the labyrinth of different houses and the long thing aisles hugged by beautiful flowering cattleyas, cymbidiums, paphiopedilums, and phalaenopsis.
They have a seminars for those who’d like to stop killing plants (like myself) and a nice open house at the end of February when they are blooming. They have a lab looking area a bunch of little glass bottle on their sides with orchids either being grown from seed or being cloned from meristem tissue cultures. I used to love staring in the window at all the little bottles when I was a kid, just imagining the mad-​scientist things they were doing to the orchids.
Their prices are pretty reasonable for the quality of plants they offer. I bought a $ 20 phalaenopsis yesterday in a 4 inch pot. He’s got at least 10 flowers in full bloom and about 20 buds that I hope to be blooming in the coming weeks.

I absolutely love this nursery for its wide and beautiful selection of perennial and annual flower. Although their main business is orchids, they also carry a great selection of flowers for planting, all at reasonable prices.
The man responsible for this, I’ve been told, is Brian — possibly the owner — but definitely a master of flowers! He creates the most unique colors and hybrids of annuals that I have ever seen. For example, I bought the most beautiful yellow and coral colored begonia hybrids for only $ 4.99 for a 4 inch pot. I highly recommend checking out their greenhouses for unique and hardy flowers to make your garden and life beautiful!
