History

Established in 2007.

George Lennon, the franchise owner, left the corporate world to fulfill a dream of owning his own business. As a pet lover and parent of five children, opening a neighborhood pet store was a natural choice. «I understand that raising children and pets are lifelong commitments that we cherish and welcome. I’ve never been interested in the quick sale. I always try to make a customer for life.»

Manager

Jack has been an all-​around animal lover his entire life. Along with his wife and two sons, his family includes a black Lab, several Leopard Geckos, a hamster, and various freshwater and saltwater animals. As Manager of the Villa Park store since 2007, Jack welcomes any opportunity to share his passion for all types of pets with his neighbors.

Who has been to any retail store and asked for something, and right away you are told the same «if its not out we don’t have it!» Well this is why I… LOVE love loveeeeeeee this place! Here you ask for something, even if its 10 mins to close they will jump on the ladder and grab you 60lb bag of dog food off the very top shelf and even help carry it if your holding on to your doggies!
Let me start off by saying I try my VERY hardest to go to Pet Supplies Plus (any locations) over any other pet store. But this location in particular I really LOVE!
It doesn’t matter what time you stop in the staff is so friendly and happy to help. You can tell they all enjoy pets and are so sweet to my dogs when they come in. That alone makes me feel happy to drive further to pick up dog food with my little fur babies (that are not babies at all but rather 8 years old.)
Another reason I love this location is their clearance section always has good stuff. although maybe I should keep that my secret… I also love that PSP has a huge verity of food for all animals. My one dog has a yeast allergy, so if your not familiar with that, it is HELL trying to find dry food for her. But PSP carries two companies that have multiple flavors of yeast free food.
Helpful Tips:
— The discount card at PSP is different then what we are all used to. You must have the actual card if you signed up at a different location. (their systems are not linked up).
— Sign up for email coupons, they are always having great sales and deals.
— SIGN UP FOR EMAILS, because they also will send you info on cheap vaccinations and animal chipping.
— Some locations have groomer and/​or areas you can rent to wash your pets. Although I do mine mostly as home. sometimes its nice in the winter to use theirs because they have dryers.

Not the cheapest when it comes to dog food, and a bit on the grimy side. Despite the fact that it is literally 5 minutes from my house, I will drive to PetSmart in either Bloomingdale or Downer’s Grove whenever I need to stock up on pet needs. I literally forget the place even exists.
But late one Saturday afternoon, Girlspawn calls in a panic from work to beg me to get crickets for her tarantula since it was going on a month since its last feeding. It was cold outside and I was lazy and didn’t want to drive that far since I need need any other pet products. It was then I remembered the store was 5 minutes from my house and ran off to get a dozen crickets.
Okay, first off — the cheapest dozen large crickets I have gotten anywhere. A buck even for ‘em. A buck even and I didn’t have to burn 2 gallons of gas to get them. I get home and go dump ‘em in the tarantula tank. Girlspawn gets home and I tell her where I got the crickets from and she tells me she forgot the place existed, too.
Turns out, Nancy the tarantula was on a hunger strike or something, and didn’t touch the crickets for a few days. In the meantime however, that buck even provided a LOT of entertainment. I don’t know from whence Pet Supplies Plus procured their crickets, but they were the chirpiest, most boisterous crickets EVER. And since Nancy the tarantula took days to eat them, Girlspawn had to deal with the incessant chirp-​chirp-​chirping of those crickets for days. She had to sleep with headphones on, and everyone she Skyped with could hear them. Hell, even downstairs, WE could hear them at their chirpiest and boisterous best.
Nancy eventually ate them and all was quiet again.
Who knew a buck even could do so much?

This used to be a really grimy store but they recently underwent a remodel and they seem to be moving up in the world. It’s just tidier in general and I like that. Also gone are previous employees that were kind of surly — now I get a pleasant hello when I come in the door, which I like, and upon check-​out, it seems like the people actually care. I like the location as it is the closest pet-​related store to my house and they carry a very wide range of items, from the usual low grade to some of the higher end foods for both cats and dogs. Prices are pretty reasonable and they do have a loyalty program, which I think might save you a little bit of money. The thing that always gets me is that there is normally a cat available for adoption in the front by the registers. My cat hates all cats that are not dogs so I can only have one but I am always, always very tempted to try to adopt and smuggle out the kitties in this store. Overall, a good place for pet supplies!

I love this place! The staff is so knowledgeable and very friendly. The prices are way cheaper than Pet Co or Petsmart. They have a great selection of Holistic pet food and Store brand petfood. And they always have a sale!

These guys rock! Went here today after the July sale had ended, and they gave me the sale price, plus a five dollar coupon off the same item. The cashier was super sweet, gave the four legged hound a treat for which she was extremely grateful… lol. Their prices are good, but when they have a sale, they become great. They have a loyal customer here!

I’ll never shop for food anywhere else.
As a big animal lover, I can spend hours in any doggie boutique. This store, albeit not a boutique, makes my list. Not only do they have a wide selection of holistic foods (local brands, too), but they also have an extremely helpful and knowledgeable staff.
The prices are very low, much lower than Petco or Petsmart, and the selection is much better. This doesn’t only apply for food, but toys, accessories, and everything else.
The staff is the winning factor, for sure. It seems like every employee has had years of classes about pet nutrition and can give you really good advice on choosing a quality food.
Another good point is they donate all expired foods to local shelters instead of throwing the bags out like other stores. Yes, some shelter animal out there is eating California Naturals =)

This is the only pet store I’ll shop at for my dog. They have such a great selection of pet foods from the cheap low-​end junk food to the best there is to buy (Orijen!). Prices are better than anywhere else I’ve seen. Staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and always asks if you need help but in an unobtrusive way (unlike Best Buy staff, ick).
They have regular low-​cost vaccination clinics here regularly too.

The «plus» (or quote marks, as I call it) has great prices and a large selection. Plus, they occasionally do cute little extras, such as a free pull from an Easter basket with toys for your pet.
The only downside is the strip mall that the store is in. Cars whiz through the parking lot without paying attention, so you have to be careful if carrying large bags of cat food.
