94.9 The Point

UGH. Hampton Roads radio is a sore spot with me in general and if I could have one HRVA wish, it would be to bring back The Coast (I miss you dearly, my old friend). The Point just adds to my dissatisfaction with radio in the area. In fact my friend and I have a running joke that goes something like this ‘Soak up the Sun by Sheryl Crow is new music on The Point’ because they used to actually run commercials like that. Songs that had been out for six months were still considered ‘new music’. It’s all Rock/​Pop which is fine if it wasn’t the same 10 songs over and over. I think The Point is about as safe (and boring) as you can get with radio. Next station, please!
I really don’t listen to the radio much anymore, I stick to my iPod or even CDs.

The Point is pretty much easy listening for the thirties crowd. You’re not going to hear anything new or edgy. Pretty much whatever’s on the charts at the moment in the Rock/​Pop genre: Katie Perry, Pink, Train and lots of Kelly Clarkson. They do a lot of promotions and contests and play the same songs for the most part. It’s more about getting listeners for their advertisers than having a good selection of music to attract listeners. There’s really no competition for this station in Hampton Roads, which is lame. Thank goodness for iTunes radio and Pandora!

94.9 is your typical grocery store music/​elevator – music for everyone. With soft tunes and love songs ruling the waves, you can’t go wrong when tuning into The Point. The station for Jack Johnson, John Mayer and Black Eyed Peas fans alike, The Point never disappoints with a nice hummer, toe tapper or from the gut belter.
Nothing too trendy and nothing too classic, 94.9 gives you the modern contemporary adult classics mixed in with a few hipper tunes that will make the older set feel tuned in.
