The food is really good and definitely a better alternative to fast food. The portions are generous and filling. When I go I am in the habit of getting fish either whiting or flounder, potato salad, cornbread, collard greens, sweet potato pie, green beans mashed potatoes all good and very comforting foods. Feels familiar and friendly even on the first visit. Those are the food items that I have eaten. I have gone with a friend who has ordered something different and the report is always good.(chicken or barbeque) May be difficult to spot from the street its in back of parking lot behind what used to be Capt. D’s and Shoney’s which have gone out of business.

Generous portions and friendly owner. I love the Mac & cheese, sweet potatoes, and chopped pork. I love to support local businesses and this is one to try. lol forward to trying something new next time.

Had some expertly fried flounder here, light and crispy! Some of the best I’ve had since South Carolina. Yams are like candy and the portions are crazy huge. Glad I stopped in to carry out!

If home style means store bought food then this is the place to go. The barbaque and chicken dinner I received was not the best. It came with 2 sides: potato salad and mac and cheese. The ribs have the appearance of being boiled or steamed and are not smoked or charcoal grilled. The corn bread was over baked. The potato salad tasted the same as the Amish potato salad from Walmart. What a waste of money. The prices are equivalent to table service dinning; however, the quality of the food is less than takeout. One would make better time going to Burger King. How can food make you lose your appetite? When you dine at this place, beware!

Oh, how I wanted to give this place a good review. I was told the food was great yet I’m always a skeptic and, in this case, my fears were confirmed. Now to be clear I wasn’t expecting my mother’s home cooking or even my own, yet, even this judgement curve couldn’t have prepared me for my disappointment. Sure the people were nice but that didn’t take away from the fact that the green beans tasted as if they were dumped from a can with a dash of salt for seasoning. Soul green beans with no meat? Uh… no. Next the mac and cheese tasted like it was velveeta. If you claim homemade food please make homemade food I can make easy mac at home. It was the worst mac and cheese that I’ve ever had from a soul or even barbecue place. Strike three the whiting was unexpectedly delicious with just one problem SCALES. Now I don’t know if this is a regular occurrence but if you don’t clean your fish I really don’t trust you to clean anything else. And when I say scales I mean the whole back was covered underneath the breading. Not one, two, three, four, the whole thing was scales. Disgusting. Lastly, my husbands pulled pork barbeque looked and smelled like minced tuna and tasted just slightly better. Please, folks don’t waste your time on a place that cares so little about the product that they put out. Soul food is about love and I can tell you there was no love put into that food.
