FreshCrust Trattoria

I have been considering coming here probably for over a year. Every time I’m near the mall and I’m starving and I don’t know what to eat I go on Unilocal in this pops up as one of the nearby places. But it’s not exactly near the mall. So for me it was always next time, next time.
Today I was at the post office which is near the mall and again I’m so searching out for summer to eat lunch for once I said I need to try someplace different and stop eating at the same places over and over again. So today was finally the day to visit FreshCrust!
While still at the post office I whipped out my phone and checked the Unilocal app and read several reviews from Unilocaler’s that I know and all the reviews were positive and then I looked at the photos and they look pretty tasty.
My server Coke was so friendly, helpful, conversational. She really did live up to all of the flattering Unilocal reviews mentioning her. She was honest, forthcoming, bubbly. The garlic rolls were perfect! The dinner roll, not so much, but Coke explained that they were still working on perfecting them. My spinach and cheese ravioli came out bubbling hot and oh so cheesy. Yes it was indeed delicious. I do have a suggestion for the chef is to chop the spinach because spinach leaves were difficult to cut through. I’d really enjoy it more if the spinach were chopped and perhaps in the cheese ravioli.

Their garlic knots — AMAZING. Got their simply white pizza and added grilled chicken… So good!

Food is very good. Our waitress Coke was perky and extremely helpful. Her knowledge of the menu was very good with awesome recommendations. This place is more of a takeout joint but dinning in was very laid back and relaxed. Food was very succulent in taste. Everybody in the group got sandwiches which were well prepare and went well with the included sides. Can’t wait to be back to try the pizza and pasta. Knocked off a star due to the lack of appearance. If Unilocal didn’t tell me to try it I probably would not have even come across it in the first place. This will definitely be a place for a casual lunch any time. Can’t wait to be back!

After reading other reviews, I have to agree that the place does need some updating. I may have just overlooked it since the food here is good.
I’ve been back a couple more times and tried a pepperoni pizza, chicken wings, spaghetti with meatballs. All good. I still dream of the eggplant parm I had on my first visit. Maybe I’ll order it next time.
The male servers are good, too. They may forget to offer a refill but it’s no problem asking them. I seriously feel so calm eating here

We’ve lived in Italy about 3 years and know real Italian food. This is it !! Finally, we found DELICIOUS Italian place!
Try Grandma meat ball spaghetti and tiramisu! It makes me so happy… Can’t wait to go there and eat tasty Italian again…

I rarely leave reviews, but I must say Fresh Crust deserves all the praise that you’re reading!
The food is outstanding! They make a homemade ranch that is better than anything you could ever imagine, and the fresh Garlic Knots are near perfection!
The menu reads like a magazine, and there’s so many choices that we are going to have to keep going back over and over again to try all the good food choices that they offer.
Coke, our server, is absolutely fantastic. She’s so bright and full of personality, and she makes you feel welcomed and appreciated. The owner is also a very nice guy, and he’s built a fantastic restaurant. He came out to check on us as well, and made it a point to make sure we were satisfied with our choices!
I can’t wait to go back there again!

Came during lunch, to which they were a little busy. Nonetheless, we were approached by Coke, the server who was funny and very personable. Told her we were on Lunch and needed to be out quickly, and could they complete that mission. She laughed and said yes, I ordered the Gyro Wrap with the Spicy Fries. Perfect, everything tasted so Fresh, not to mention the Garlic Knots were probably the best I’ve had so far especially because they are complimentary. Great place I would come back to.

I tried this restaurant again as I wanted my son to try it too.
This time a young kid about 20 was my server and Oh my goodness I hated his presentation. He was very «flighty» didn’t appear to know what he was doing and I felt unloved (I know that sounds weird)
The garlic knots came out ahead of our food, awesome, I raved about these to my son. Womp womp! Huge let down, they were over cooked and not crispy and garlicky like last time. I looked in the kitchen and Coke (my previous waitress was in there)
The other food we ordered, pasta with cheese and my son ordered a cheese steak, all bland and definitely in need of seasoning.
I’d keep Coke out of the kitchen and in the front of the house.

Still love this place. Tried the pizza wasnt a huge fan but other than that i have yet to find anything bad

The garlic knots were yummy. Like I can’t even describe how good these were lol.
The salad was yummy… i was actually in shock with the salad… looked like something straight out of a magazine…
Entrée— was good. Not great… but good.
The establishment wasn’t anything fancy and I was sort of surprised with the food that came out of that kitchen.
I feel like if they spruced up their restaurant they could really bring in a lot of business.

How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, Practice, Practice. What are the three most important things in real estate? Location, location, location.
Freshcrust has practiced enough to make it to Carnegie Hall. Their location is what needs some help but the food will keep you coming back. They are tucked back in a small strip mall. The interior is very basic but it is inviting.
We ordered a pizza to go and it was ready as promised in less than 12 minutes. They also have delivery. The meaty supreme was loaded and delicious. The garlic knots were terrific.
The food was terrific. I wish I lived closer so I could take advantage of the delivery.

Placed my lunch order online for carryout, and customized the regular cheeseburger by swapping out American cheese for aged cheddar, asking that the patty be cooked medium rare, and adding grilled mushrooms & red onion.
This burger was so amazing, I ended up eating the whole damn thing before I could snap a picture. & the fries are consistently delicious: strangely crispy, well-​seasoned (without being super salty), and pillowy soft inside.
I really love this place. Try one of their burgers and you will, too.

Had a fantastic waitress with an awesome attitude named Coke. Yes, Coke! Such a sweet heart!
Everything was good. Loved the garlic knots and my pizza. The caeser salad was alright but I’ve had better. Either way, I’m coming back for another margherita pizza.
There’s also a karaōke bar across the parking lot if you want to eat pizza, then get drunk and sing to one of the greatest karaōke songs of all time… Total Eclipse of the Heart! Seriously folks, try singing it sometime.

Very nice, down to earth atmosphere. Our server was very attentive and she had a very positive and refreshing personality. Let’s not forget the free garlic knots! Fresh made!
If you are looking for a home style, non franchise, straight food and hospitality meal, swing on by. Reminded me of a place our peewee baseball team would go to after a game.
Definitely give it a try!

I’ve been here a few times now. The first time I came in was a few weeks ago, and then I came back here this past Wednesday. What made me think of this place was a coupon that was in the mail that was received a week or so prior to the first visit. If you are out looking for the place, be careful as you can easily pass it, which I did.
Let’s start with the look and feel inside this place. When you first come in, it looks like a typical place; this place has quite a bit of space too. This place is not fancy, nor does it need to be. However, there are some maintenance issues that really need to be dealt with inside the place. The floors are one big area of improvement that’s needed. Some parts of the floor are one thing, while other spots are patched up with cement. On a side note, we were the only ones dining in while there, but there was a lot of delivery traffic. Overall for the look and feel of the place, I would give it two stars, but could easily go up more once the maintenance issues are corrected.
Now, let’s get to the main attraction. That would be the food. The food here was absolutely amazing. Don’t let the inside of the place fool you. On both visits, they start you off with a free order of five garlic knots. They are just out of this world. I could probably make a whole meal of just the garlic knots, but I’m not trying to gain weight either. For the main entrée, I had the white pizza with three toppings. On the build your own pizzas, you can get three toppings for the price of one. So, I had pepperoni, green peppers, and onions on my pizza. I usually go for white pizzas since I’m not one that uses marinara sauce. The pizza was great, and I had enough to also have for lunch the following few days as well. One of the things I liked was that the crust was not burned on the bottom. It was cooked with absolute perfection. For the food and experience overall, I would give that part the full five stars.
After having a few solid experiences here, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. I’ve also noticed that the pricing is cheaper in terms of overall value when compared to the big box pizza places. Just skip the big box pizza places and come here instead. You will find that it is well worth it.

Ordered a plain cheese pizza with extra cheese and garlic knots. I’m not happy. After waiting over an hour for delivery, the crust was tasteless and over baked. It had the burnt taste and very dry. The cheese and sauce they used tasted alright. The garlic knots were also burnt on the bottoms.
… Would have been better off with papa johns or something :(

Some context for this review… An old buddy used to work there. He is no longer there but he spoke highly of the place. That’s the only reason why I’m familiar with the place is because I ran into him a few times and he always talked about his job. He did a lot of their catering and deliveries and spoke highly about their food. Along with the name, FreshCrust Trattoria, I had the idea that this place was like a Taste Unlimited. I pictured bright white walls and a hustle and bustle type of atmosphere. This place is a total hole in the wall.
First, the location… It’s a bit hard to find. Look for Video Game Heaven. They’re easy to see on Lynnhaven Parkway and they’re right next door.
Don’t expect anything fancy about the place. Like I said, it’s a hole in the wall. If you want a good meal, you’ll get it… You just won’t have the pretty walls and floors. As a matter of fact, the overwhelmingly majority of the business is take out and catering. I think in a nice area with more foot traffic they’d invest a bit more in the looks of the place. With the current location and the entire shopping center for that matter, I can see the atmosphere is fitting. Again, most of the business happens outside of the establishment so it’s not a big deal for the casual diner. If you’re looking for a quiet place to have lunch, they’re good for it. J David H and I were the only ones in the place.
They start you off with the garlic knots. Those damn things were so good. I could have had 15 of them. Seriously, the total ish. 5 stars all the way.
Unilocal talk threads had me oozing for a cheesesteak so a cheesesteak is what I ordered. This sandwich was pretty big. It didn’t taste great but I managed to finish the entire thing. I would have given this 3 stars on flavor.
Our waitress, Coke, left us with chocolate chip cookies. These came right out of the oven. Damn. I mean, damn. So good.
Service was excellent. The owner came by and spoke to us for a bit. We got to hear his story which was pretty cool. Coke was great to work with. She was very sweet and attentive.
Despite the location and the quiet foot traffic these folks seem to hold their own in such a competitive business. Take out and catering are probably a must try if you have those options in front of you.

I just love finding hidden gems. Although FreshCrust has 51 reviews it still is an undiscovered culinary commodity in Virginia Beach in my opinion. I cannot take the credit for the take down, thank you for the recommendation Xerxes. I now understand your job as our Unilocal CM much better now.
You could drive by this strip every day on South Lynnhaven Parkway and never know they are there. Located around a mile South of Lynnhaven Mall and to not have road frontage seems to be a death sentence.
What a beautiful warm Virginia Beach day in the low 70’s to get out and about. When traveling South on the Parkway you will need to do a U-​Turn to access the business. Upon driving up at noon there were only two cars which did seem odd. Lot and sidewalk were clear. Two flower pots out front were being used as ash trays, this needs to be cleaned up and I did mention to staff, that just nasty.
A walk in the door and strangely the good size dining room was dead. The exterior does not prepare you for the transition as you walk in. The bar area had possibly a couple of customers on my entire visit and I think that was take out. Two pool tables are in the bar and to left as you enter, dining room to the right. The place for the most part is wide open with a short barrier between bar and dining. There seems to be no disputing that the joint lacks in the ambiance department. Tile floors were clean, but chipped up horribly, ceiling tiles were badly damaged from apparent water damage at some time. Not an expensive fix to have these replaced and they should be.
What is lacks for atmosphere it makes up for in the bubbly server that others had mentioned in there reviews, Coke. She was upbeat, knowledgeable and helpful the entire time. Coke is the kind of server that you would expect at a higher end restaurant. She connects with customers and most certainly a big reason for the four stars is due to her excellent service skills. Menus looked over, but we both already knew what we wanted. I ordered the Lobster Ravioli and Xerxes the Philly Cheesesteak.
Drinks on the table and complimentary garlic knots placed in front of us. We took no time in trying them. I rarely read others reviews before going in, but I did cheat and knew the reputation of them were well regarded. They did not disappoint us, but they are on the smaller than usual knots size. Soft and crisp with the butter not being melted all the way down like others do. Oh know, this was nice warm creamy butter and it had us fighting to the last one… well we actually came to a truse. Can I say these were the best I’ve ever had yes I am willing to take that leap. A Caesar Salad which came as a side was delivered. It was fresh and crisp, very delicious indeed.
Orders were out around 15 minutes later and timing seemed good. At this point there was someone over at the bar, but no one ever even entered the dining room except our waitress. My pasta dish was humongous and I could see Xerxes had plenty to work with on his side of the table that is for sure. I loved the fact that the dish was fresh, plenty of meat in those shells. However, it was lacking some pizzazz and could have used more seasoning, I should have peppered. It had the consistency of a bisque, I really enjoyed and it was a filler.
The bread came out later with a chutney butter, all good but nothing special. Coke kept tabs on us, but never performed a drink refill which was under half. My meal was too big and I could go no further. The owner, originally from Turkey came over and checked on us. I always appreciate this when the owner is proactive in the dining room. In this case we were the only ones, but he did may the effort. We chatted for a while and he was a friendly guy. Over the five years they have been in business evening and catering have been stronger than lunch. That had me much less concerned if there were going to make it. But with all of these businesses just a mere one mile away to not have any type of lunch crowd just seems wrong, wrong, wrong!
Some great Unilocal conversation for quite some time to let out tummy’s settle and bill was out. But not before a surprise of complimentary chocolate chip cookies. OMG, so good and still warm. A glass of milk would have really had my mouth doing the happy dance. I got out with one to go and surprised a friend with it later in the day for doing me a favor… we are now even!
The check was quickly handled at the table. Coke remained enthusiastic and had so much energy it was a delight to witness. I would return for the garlic knots alone and I mean it. Prices fair, meal above average, service off the chart great with Coke, but the restaurant needs attention in the aesthetics department.
If your looking for a peaceful lunch this appears to be the place for you. If are also looking for some great food and friendly service this the place. I would recommend to anyone. It is possible that I may dream about those delicious garlic knots.

Parents recommended this place. It’s just okay. First the menu is way to big. No way they don’t have food spoil in a constant basis… Totally understaffed for a Friday night. It took almost 10mins of being the only one at the counter to place a to go order. The counter guy was also the server and phone order taker. Props to him for trying to handle it all.
We got the garlic knots because of all the reviews. They were okay. I liked they were on the smaller size and there were more of them. Easier to eat. Could use more garlic. Maybe it was a off night for them as the reviews just rave about the garlic knots.
My husband ordered the loaded Philly cheesesteak sub. He requested lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mustard, & mayo on it and got none of that. The sandwhich looked good but was nothing special. No signature twist to it at all.
I got the Jumbo Wings with the garlicky sauce. They were just downright bad. First it wasn’t even a sauce! It was chunks of raw garlic chopped up with red pepper flakes in some butter. The amount of red pepper flakes made them inedible. The raw garlic chunks were on the bottom of the to go container… And there was so little butter to make them a sauce that the wings didn’t absorb any taste. I was able to eat 3 that I had scraped the red pepper flakes off of then trashed the rest. Also… There was nothing «jumbo» about the wings, they are average sized. And it costs extra for ranch.
I’m not sure if we will be back which is a downer cause it’s right across the street from us. My parents get the calzones and love them so maybe I’ll go back to try that… Not sure tho.
Two stars for the server trying his best to keep up with everyone and the drivers going out on the icy roads. (It took 45 mins for us to get our order, but we gave them a break on that because of the weather and everyone ordering delivery)

Service, excellent. Our server’s name was «Coke» (like the soda) and she was gracious, speedy and friendly but not too much.
Food, very good. I had what they call «four cheese penne» but is baked ziti. I asked for meatballs to be added. While the sauce was good and the cheese was cheesy, the meatballs were rather bland and overdone. I’d skip those next time. My mom had the eggplant parm and she said the spaghetti on the side was very good but the eggplant was not so good. Maybe skip that as well.
Their «famous» garlic knots were quite good. Buttery, lots of garlic, they needed only a quick sprinkle of salt to bring out the flavor. The marinara for dipping was good but a little messy.
Price, reasonable. Two entrees with the «greek salad upcharge» was around $ 25. We also had a GroupOn that knocked down the price.
Ambiance, fair. When we arrived at 6:30, we were the only folks in the place. Two tv’s tuned to the food channel and muted.
Too stuffed for dessert.
It was a decent meal and I think I would go back.
