I got the jerk chicken and it was seasoned really well! Portions are great also. Lunch special is a great deal. Not busy during lunch time which is a plus ! Restaurant is clean and staff is very friendly !!! I would definitely recommend checking this place out !

Since moving to new location have had the best service and food tastes amazing. Just wish they would put up an accurate menu online since a lot of entrees online they no longer have available

Stopped here today with my toddler after the bounce house a couple doors down and MAN am I GLAD we did.
I got a «snack» portion for $ 6 — a beautiful plate of jerked leg and thigh, large mountain of collards. Great portion for lunch. My jerk chicken was so good I literally stomped my foot after the first bite. Collards were cooked and seasoned perfectly.
The ambiance could use a little work, it was kind of dark and sparse, but who cares when the food is so yummy.
They weren’t all that busy @ lunchtime on a Saturday. Maybe people don’t know about the place, there’s no other reason I can fathom.
I’m looking forward to going back for dinner to try the platters. They also do take out, so I’ll be hitting that up from time to time as well.

How do you run out of beef patties? Just go to the Colombian restaurant down the street and get empanadas if you have a craving for beef patties. They will make it fresh for you.

I like their food a lot but their staff is always rude. That’s really my main complaint… They should work on people skills. I really enjoy their food and have been there many times, it never fails everyone who serves at the counter is rude, would not go back simply bc of bad customer service.

I’ve tried to like this «Caribbean» restaurant multiple times. I basically gave it many chances. To start off the service was up to standards for a Jamaican restaurant, the employees act like they do not care if you order or not (same thing in NY). I got jerk chicken, mac & cheese, and rice and peas on one occasion and it was very SAUCY. As in my food was drowned in a sauce that was not good and the mac and cheese was very seasoned and I did not like that either. Another time I had a very strong craving for Jamaican food so I decided to try another time and i got oxtail. I got 4 pieces! If I am going to pay 11 $ for food i would like more meat and again everything was SAUCY! I was going to give them 2 stars but that would be too generous.
SIDE NOTE: DO NOT EVEN STEP FOOT IN THERE GENERAL BOOTH LOCATION!!!

I’m sick of this place. I have given it very many chances and the customer service is awful. And today the lady told me that they do one side only with their meals. I have always gotten two sides but today and she said (in the nastiest voice) «it’s always been that way and if anyone is giving in to you otherwise they’re doing it wrong!» I have always gotten it this way. Like, always. Like, every single time. And I have been here over 20 times. But it is really their attitude that is the main problem. Mps it is!

It’s divey and it’s in a divey location but don’t let that deter you. The restaurant is clean, everyone is friendly, and the food is yummy. They have a $ 10 lunch buffet with most everything save the oxtail and goat. It’s hard to choose a favorite dish. I loved the curry goat but the jerk chicken was delicious, too. I believe they offer a military discount but not sure if that’s for the entire menu or just the buffet.

I love this place and being from Brooklyn Ny places like this hidden gem make it even better. I come to Va Bach every month and Love this place. Just the idea of a West Indian Place that offers a Buffett is genius in it self but the fact that they have the store next door and utilize that for their cooking needs makes this place the best in Va Beach hands down. The staff is always friendly and remember you. I would recommend this place to all.

We visited the general booth location prior and wanted to give this one a try, i have to say the selection was better at this location, as the other was out of most on the menu, Caribbean food is always a good choice and there isnt many locations in va beach. This one is definitely worth trying. I would stick with water as the sweet tea taste like brisk no brewed and the fountain drinks taste kinda watered down. The chicken wings ate fresh not frozen which take a little longer to prepare but are really worth the wait. The quality of food was really good. The waitress was nice without even asking they changed the channel for my daughter to cartoons that was nice. The location was good because there was a big parking lot and it wasnt real busy so we got right in. We will be back.

Overall good food. Only complaints are slow service and they tend to run out of their specials. We go for stew peas on Wednesdays and if you don’t go early they will sell you what is left at the bottom of the tray which is normally just the peas for the same price.

It was pretty good. The service was great. The woman at the counter was really friendly. They were out of three of the sides that I wanted and there was a LOT of tiny bones in my Jerk chicken but it still tastes great. My fiancée for the goat curry and had the same complaint I did about the bones but she still really enjoyed it. There was a overwhelming cigarette smell coming from outside that wafted in and stayed inside every time the door was opened. Which didn’t bother me THAT much but by fiancée hated it. I wouldn’t go again. Only went because I had a groupon.

The best bomb dot com Caribbean food in the whole Hampton road area! My go to place with my friends after work for the best jerk chicken, Ox tail, greens and baked mac n cheese. Ohhhh weeee :)!

The only reason I’m giving them 2 stars was for excellent customer service. The food was nasty, I’m Jamaican and it wasn’t what I ecpected. The food was so salty I had to check my pressure and I don’t have high blood pressure. This was my first time going there and last.

The moment I walked toward the restaurant, I start feeling like Gordon Ramsey in a Kitchen Nightmare restaurant looks pretty roughed up and there is loud bass. But okay, cool, might be a fun night. Then the lady who I was with and I get felt up by a bouncer for a restaurant that doesn’t have anyone there on a Saturday night… okay?
We sit down, and we can’t hear a lick what we are saying to each other and barely can hear the waitress. I was amazed at her ability to make out what we were saying. We learned from a couple a few tables away to just side by side each other. That worked.
In came the menus and we are told that they ran out of most of it. Jamaican patties are out, some of the dishes weren’t available, and almost half of the sides. Feeling my Kitchen Nightmare experience already? Wait, there’s more! So, we end up ordering — but apparently there was more thing missing! We order our food, and we get the Jerk wings. Sadly, this was one of the only two tasty things. Spices might make your hit the ground running. I enjoyed the spice, but it definitely tasted as if it was sitting in a buffet line, heater, or reheated for the 4^th time. The rest of the food was pretty horrid. The candied yams was the best thing out both of the entrees. Everything lacked flavor, and it’s ironic because Caribbean flavors should be jumping at you and not you begging for it. The green beans tasted like green beans in a can that were just heated, the rices sides were dry and tasteless, and the candied yams were the only worth it part. However, definitely taken from dinner buffet setting. Thank you Groupon, I would’ve been pissed paying full price.
No drinks were ordered, just Coronas… that were served in a plastic cup? Serve the Corona in a bottle, this is coming from a Mexican.
The waitress seemed alright, didn’t seem in the best mood, but I wouldn’t be either if the restaurant was empty and I wasn’t making money too. However, this is where my two became a one star. Sadly, I don’t have a receipt to proof that I was charged far more than what I signed off — according to the card activity after if fully cleared. Keep your receipt until you can see it cleared, lesson learned — thanks? We will just call it an ‘honest’ mistake
Music from the DJ was great — no complaints. Have you considered a club not a dead restaurant?
So, I walked out thinking this place just needs a fixer upper. I just don’t know if that would be enough.
Disappointed.

Just tried this place for the first time today for lunch. I have been craving ox tails and cabbage but did not feel like making it myself. Needless to say, i read the reviews here of this place and decided to place a take out order. I got the large Ox tail plate with candied yams and yellow rice. Absolutely no complaints. Even my friend who has never had an ox tail before was sucking the gravy from the bone.
I also ordered the curry chicken special with steamed cabbage and rice & peas. The cabbage wasn’t seasoned but there is so much flavor in the curry it didnt really matter when pairing them together on your fork! I got more than enough sized portion of this particular order for only $ 5.99 (lunch special)!!! Also, each meal came with plantains.
Lastly, i got a spicy beef patty and some cocoa bread.
I’m originally from the Bay Area of California, so going to Berkeley for some great Caribbean food was not as much of a task as it is in VB. Hands down this food was the
! And the lady who took my order over the phone and assisted me at the counter was very friendly. She asked if i had ever been to their restaurant. I told her it was my first time. She assured me i’d be back and man was she telling the truth!
I already have enough food to last me 2 – 3 days but i will surely be coming back soon!!!

I love this place! Before I begin I have read a few of the reviews. A couple which are spotty… how can I say this… you have to be able to appreciate the culture of this place. The attitude and disposition of your server, the feel of it, the music, the accents, you have to be able to APPRECIATE the FLAVOR of it… if you come here looking for happy go lucky, annoying cookie cutter, white American individuals you are not going to get it (which I think is the reason for some of the negative reviews) bc these ppl are not white or American and I love it! I believe you will appreciate this place the most if u are open minded or Caribbean. My guy is Belizean and this is one of our favorite restaurants, at least top 2!
Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way,
The FOOD: Delicious. Scrumptious. Delectable. Every tasty word u can imagine lol.
Firstly it is ALWAYS HOT.
I always get the ox tails and alternate the sides. The yams are delicately sweet but not overpowering or causing a toothache like the ones I make at home lol. I also always get rice and peas with extra ox tail gravy to die for. The cornbread is good, hot, fluffy, yum! My guy always gets jerk chicken! It’s very spicy but he can’t get enough of it!
The beef patties are so good, they just don’t have them all the time which makes me cry lol. When they do have them they offer a variety of flavors like: jerk chicken, spicy beef, mild beef, etc.
They offer bottled coolers which is refreshing bc they go perfectly with whatever u order. They also have the island ginger beer and other island flavors, coconut water, etc.
After hours it turns into a club. Dancehall style, it’s amazing! The drinks are strong and cheap… that’s a rarity. Good sound and vibes in the place and the DJ is always love! I’ve never seen any drama or fights like how I do out in other clubs in Virginia Beach/​Norfolk. Oh they have security too so u can feel safe! The great thing is up to a certain time during the club hours you can still order food! Once I came in at 1AM and was still able to order my ox tails! They carded me at the door and I walked in, ordered, and carried out. .
I hear happy hour is great for the drinks tho I’ve never gone. I have to try that out!
They also have a lunch buffet weekdays before 3… I never do buffet tho bc i’m addicted to ox tails lmao and they aren’t on the buffet haha.
Also on the ther side there’s a carribean grocery where they sell a lot of the ingredients used to cook their cultural dishes as well as a few meats, etc. They also carry products that aren’t food but are familiar to the carribean culture (tiger balm, candy, etc)
I love this place! It’s always so clean and so fun and the food is ALWAYS DELICIOUS, FRESH, and HOT! And the service is always good! They treat us like family! I wish I could give it 10 stars!

When here for the first time the other day for dinner. Really clean and neat restaurant. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Pricing seems a little high compared to the amount of food you do receive. The meal I received, tasted excellent I was right on key. Will be returning!

Went on a Sunday when everything else is closed. I ordered curry chicken, yellow rice, and mac and cheese. My brother got oxtails, yams, yellow rice, and mac and cheese. I tore into mine food and it was the best I have had outside of my own home. My brother loved his as well and I was able to try his and it was perfect. The staff is friendly and courteous. The atmosphere is fun and it is extremely clean throughout. Got curried goat for my mom and driving three hours to give it to her. This is a gem
And if you are in the area you should definitely try it.
