Nas Oceana Rwy 23L, Viewing Spot

Where I live I am always seeing and hearing helicopters. I wanted to change things up and let my kids get a closer view of the jets at Oceana. They see them quite often, but not usually up close. Because we have base access and their grandfather was a fighter pilot, they have had some pretty cool experiences. But, if you do not have military family or base access… this is a perfect place to take your family. The up close views and sounds of the planes is very impressive and fun for all kids. After enjoying this spot for awhile, we then decided to go on base and go up close. Seeing and hearing military hard at work, never gets old. This is the sound of freedom people! I appreciate all they do!

If you’ve spent any time in Virginia Beach, you couldn’t miss all the fighter jets constantly buzzing by overhead. If you’d like to see them a little closer up and still buzzing, this is the spot for you. When I came by today, there were six or seven FA/18’s doing touch and go’s. It was very cool.

I took my 7-​year old grandson here the other day to look at planes. He asked how much they cost. After a quick google search on my phone I found out they run anywhere from $ 29 million to $ 60 million. He said, and I quote, «But, grandpa, why don’t they use that money to give to people that are hungry or soldiers that got hurt in the war like Uncle Robby?». I said I didn’t know. He went on to say «They should drop bombs on the bad guys with drones and it would be really quiet and surprise them better than these planes». Then he said he wanted to leave and never come back. We drove home, sat on the porch, and told funny stories to each other until long after the sun went down.

Great spot for viewing Jets
An AWESOME spot to view landing F-18’s at NAS Oceana. Every-​time I drive by, there is always a handful of people here watching and taking pictures of planes.
